Hello- ARCH = ~x86 kernel = gentoo-sources-2.6.1-r1 linux-headers = 2.6.0 nptl-enabled quirk = have tried using udev and switched back to devfs because of problems Ever since I introduced the aforementioned quirk I haven't been able to probe in my nvidia module. Attempting to do so results in: # modprobe nvidia FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.1-gentoo-r1/video/nvidia.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) # dmesg | tail -6 nvidia: no version magic, tainting kernel. nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel. nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_device_add nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_destroy nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_device_remove nvidia: Unknown symbol class_simple_create Some google searching indicates that these symbols have something to do with sysfs, which I suppose is related to udev (but I'm not sure). Just so that nobody makes the same mistake as I did (er, one of the same mistakes), I would strongly recommend *not* emerging modutils after you switch to 2.6. The modutils package overwrites your module tools with those that don't work with 2.6 kernels. The courier package blocks with any virtual/imapd, which courier-imap provides. You might check /var/cache/edb/virtuals and find what virtual/mta is pointing at. It *should* point to whatever MTA you are using. It looks like it might be pointing at net-mail/courier. I needed to re-emerge nvidia-glx (that's right--nvidia-glx, *not* nvidia-kernel!). mplayer works, wine works, xmms works. Though I'm not overly impressed with wine's performance. It's slower than it was on 2.4 without nptl. Though to be fair it doesn't seem to be wine that's going slow, it's X that's hogging all the resources. I'd like to start using NPTL for at least wine, with hopes of seeing performance enhancement. As I understand it, here's what I need to do: - Install kernel 2.6.0-test11 - Set the nptl USE flag - emerge glibc (2.3.2 ok?) - emerge wine I read somewhere that I should use GCC 3.3 (I'm using 3.2.3).
