You seem to be running ~ARCH, so all things may not be plain sailing. Just in case, run python-updater 2.4 to update to your latest python (although the ebuild would have done it automatically on its own these days). If you have resync'ed and ran revdep-rebuild then I don't really know what's the cause of it, or how to fix it. Others who are also running ~ARCH may have come across it. This is a simple 64 bit WEP network in my home. Unfortunately I did not find anything that applied to my situation. One thing different about my new kernel config is that because I have a Broadcom card, I moved to the new b43 driver instead of the old b43_legacy driver. I am using version 4 firmware however I had the same problem with version 3 firmware. I was hoping that would fix it but no luck. I am also using the new MAC80211 stack instead of the older IEEE80211 stack. I don't have much help to offer than go with WPA over WEP (especially WEP64). A guy at my LUG gave a presentation on hacking WEP and did it in under 1 minute. I went home that night and got WPA to work. Any ideas on what I have done wrong? Yes, turning on wep vs WPA ;) Thanks, Drew Sorry the only answer is do it totally differently but nobody else replied so I figured I'd chime in. -- Eric Martin PGP fingerprint = D1C4 086E DBB5 C18E 6FDA B215 6A25 7174 A941 3B9F signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Re: [gentoo-user] Installing Gentoo 2007.1
I'm planning to install Gentoo Linux and i want to overwrite my current MSWindows because i don't to do multiboot. How do i actually do so that i can install it. So can u assist me the easiest way to install Gentoo Linux 2007.1 and how to install stage3 as currently my pc is running windows xp and i would like to overwrite my windows with Gentoo Linux. Thank you. Regards, Norman Hakim NORMAN HAKIM YAHYA Norman, I believe that's a really good project =). Let me introduce you to Gentoo. Gentoo is (in my opinion) one of the best documented Linux distribution. You can check the Gentoo Handbook [1], which is a very good step-by-step guide to install Gentoo on your system. It's translated into German, English, French, Italian, Polish, Simplified Chinese and Spanish. Take a look at it, I think that will answer your question. If you have any other questions after reading the Gentoo Handbook, we will be glad to answer you. Regards, Ricardo Bevilacqua. [1] http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/index.xml By the way, you may want to just shrink your MSWindows partition with e.g. gparted LiveCD and then create new partitions to install Gentoo in. This will allow you to multiboot into either OS. A common data partition will allow you access to your data files, music, etc. by both OS too. As Ricardo says, following the handbook is the best way to install Gentoo. Then read some of the documentation for setting up and configuring a desktop, or different services if you want to. Any questions just ask in this M/L, the forums and in IRC. Good luck! -- Regards, Mick NORMAN HAKIM YAHYA
