Re: [Geoserver-users] Native JAI not working

2012-07-05 Thread Benjamin Mearns
Glad to hear it, Michael!

I don't remember needing to set any parameters via Tomcat manager or in any
files ... just directly in my Windows environment variables:

These are the three related to Java or Geoserver that I had set (included
the values just for example). BTW, I didn't see anything on PATH related
to either.

JAVA_HOME = C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_04
GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR = C:\Program Files (x86)\geoserver-2.2\data_dir
GEOSERVER_HOME = C:\Program Files (x86)\geoserver-2.2

 I finally got it to work today. I ended up adding the JRE home, bin, and

 enough I just wanted to put all the key directories in the PATH. What
 really seemed to be the key, though, was entering the locations of the
 three native JAI JAR files to the 'Java Classpath' line (Java tab) in the
 Tomcat properties manager.

 Ben, I am using Windows Server 2003 (32 bit) and Tomcat 6.0.35 so I am not
 sure if it is directly applicable to your setup, but wanted to pass on what
 worked for me. Thank you for offering to help!

 Andrea, thank you for the troubleshooting help. Once I get my development
 server back I will redo the process to see the minimal steps required to
 get GeoServer on Windows 2003 to recognize the native JAI and will pass
 that on if you are interested. One might only have to update the classpath
 in the Tomcat properties manager, and nothing else, but I do not know as I
 did not go back and try that. Since the setup I need right now works, I am
 going to leave it alone.

 To try and get the Windows installers output recognized I tried the
following:
 1- set symlinks to the files installed in JAVA_HOME\jre\lib\ext in
JAVA_HOME\jre\lib\i386
 2 - set symlinks to the files installed in JAVA_HOME\jre\lib\ext in
tomcat\webapps\geoserver\WEB-INF\lib (thought I would try this again and
leave the 1.1.3 off the end of the file names to see if the name was what
caused the server status to read false for native JAI)

 Neither option worked. I also added the JRE location within the JDK to
the system PATH statement.

 When GeoServer is deployed as a WAR through Apache Tomcat it is not
installed as its own service, so there is no wrapper.conf generated that
can be edited. To make sure it was not in another location I did a search
on the entire drive.

 Hmm.. native JAI should be installed in $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/i386 on such
 platform. Aren't you using the windows installers? They
 do place it in the right position.
 Hum... and then there is the service wrapper, maybe that one needs some
 configuration as well, see here:

I have the native JAI functioning on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1
64-bit but with all other components of the stack being 32-bit ... these
are the other components:

-apache-tomcat-7.0.27.exe (32-bit)
-jai_imageio-1_1 (32-bit)
-jai-1_1_3 (32-bit)
-jre-7u4 (32-bit)

and geoserver-2.2-beta2-war

It took me awhile (actually gave up for about a year and tried again) to
get it working :-p If you need help obtaining any of the components, let
me know.

 where would we attach those parameters?

 My guess (I really don’t know much about Java) is that I add a JAVA_OPTS

 JAVA_HOME variable listed there) and add the parameters we want (like
 “-server” or changing the PermGen space with “-XX:MaxPermSize=128m”). If
 that’s not it then I assume there’s a file I need to edit somewhere?

 So basically if we’re running GeoServer as a Windows service where do we
 make the changes outlined in the documentation link above?

 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having to restart nightly with many fewer layers/stores configured.
 Was getting the oom with 2 layers groups with around 5 layers each that
were drawing on a single postgis database. My SLDs are pretty complex ...
doing a lot of labeling and scale depedencies. Am on a Windows server
though, so could be coming from somewhere totally different. At this point
I'm now running one of the 2.2 nightly builds from a few months ago. Could
it be a layer group or postgis issue?

2011-07-25 Thread Benjamin Mearns
Andrey,

I'm passing a bgcolor argument on my wms request ... since the wms request
is sent when I instantiate a new wms object, that loops like this:

var gsLayer = new OpenLayers.Layer.WMS(
default, http://SERVERIP/geoserver/wms;,
{
layers: 'LAYERNAME',
styles: '',
srs: 'EPSG:900913',
format: format,

},
{attribution:  'a

and a href=http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/;CC-By-SA/a'}
);

.. haven't had to deal with ocean yet ... I think if you're at that scale
you can symboloize fill for country/continent polys and specify bgcolor =
whatever color you want for oceans.

Re: [Geoserver-users] SLD advanced styling problem

2011-02-15 Thread Benjamin Mearns
Have not done this myself: you could make a new layer from a SQL view
that groups points by proximity and then show this (and not the one
with all the points) when you're zoomed out to a particular scale.
I'm not sure what the query to make that view would look like ...
would definitely need to be an aggregate of more than one postgis
function ... I don't know how to write this in SQL, but written out is
something like considering all sets of points that fall within x
distance of eachother group each point with the group it falls within
that has the maximum members I would be VERY interested to see this
written out in SQL ... maybe do some searching on postgis lists.

Re: [Geoserver-users] How to use GeoServer published data with ArcGIS API

2011-02-12 Thread Benjamin Mearns
Hi Mustafa,

The base url for a wms request to geoserver is like this
http://HOST/wms. You should be able to choose what layers show, etc.
through properties or the constructor of the WMSLayer class.

At this point, I should say that I haven't actually used a Geoserver
WMS with ArcGIS JavaScript API ... I'm not totally sure that it will
work with a 3rd party WMS (i.e. Geoserver), though it should mostly
support it, since WMS is a standard.

However, it sounds like WMSLayer will not support feature query, since
it apparently uses a REST function that's not part of the WMS standard
(see my highlight here: http://diigo.com/0fa06). Here is a post on
how someone was able to accomplish query functionality with a 3rd
party WMS:

http://hcapello.blogspot.com/2009/06/adding-3rd-party-wms-map-service-using.html

Hope that helps.

 Thanks for replying!

 I have couple of questions.

 1.  var wmsLayer = new esri.layers.WMSLayer(wmsURL); with this line of code
 i can display wms layer over any base Layer. Now From where I get wmsURL ? I
 have published my shapefile on GeoServer, but i dont know how i get the URL
 (wmsURL) to use as parameter in above line of code ?

 2. Now, Let's suppose I am successful to display wmsLayer. Now i want to
 query data against this wmsLayer. Like code below:

 queryTask = new esri.tasks.QueryTask(wmsURL); Can I use wmsURL as a
 parameter in QueryTask method ? From ArcGIS API reference, I come to know
 that the URL parameter of QueryTask method is the URL to the ArcGIS Server
 REST resource. But as u know i am using GeoServer, so how it could be fixed.
 Need some explanation ?

 Hi Mustafa,

 You can add it as a WMS layer using documentation here:

 http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/javascript/arcgis/help/jsapi/wmslayer.htm

From that page:

 This snippet requires setting up a proxy page

 var wmsLayer = new esri.layers.WMSLayer(wmsURL);
 This snippet specifies the resourceInfo option which does not require
 proxy page.

 var wmsLayer = new esri.layers.WMSLayer(wmsURL,
   {resourceInfo: resourceInfo,
   visibleLayers: ['1','2']
   }
 );

 ... not sure if this will automatically tile though.
