There is an outstanding bug report requesting a way to have the location bar always be shown (i posted a link in an ealier thread on the developer list). There are many applications besides the GIMP that want/need a thumbnail preview in their filechooser, so if the gtk developers knew what was required there could be extended version of the standard file selector that could benifit more than just the GIMP. - Alan. ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

Hello, When I try to open jpeg images from my olympus stylus 400, a box pops up saying: Opening failed: Plug-In could not open image Every other image program that I have tried does not have a problem with these images. Strangely, gimp even shows them correctly in the preview on the open dialog. :S Does anyone know anything about this? Is it a path. At the moment (gimp 2.1.0) the buttons are organized horizontalement too, but at the first look I didnt recognize that its a path, I thinked that there are just another option buttons. So I think, if the path button would be rest horizontal arrangement(and not drop-down menu), that it must separate with a / for clarify that its a *path*. Hi, Maybe I would post at the gtk mailing list, but first Im curious for your opinions. I have made a file open dialog improvement in the new one (as mockup). The main improvements are: 1. a horizontal layout for the path (the one divided by / signs) on the top (new : / sign; always starts from root) 2. folder names are bold 3. input field, where TAB completion works of course, as in the previous version. Above that path could be repeated as simple text. 4. name of the selected file appears in the input field (as in the earlier version) Mockup: http://www.pvvbitech.hu/fotok/openDialog/openDialog.png If anybody will improve, here is the xcf file: http://www.pvvbitech.hu/fotok/openDialog/openDialog.xcf All feedback, opinion are most welcome! Hi, Carol Spears <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > removing the text entry location is a silly way to solve the tab > completion problem, if this is what happened. I'd prefer if everyone who wants to contribute to this discussion tries the new file selector first. A guess on how a new widget might work is not a good basis for a productive discussion. The new file chooser is definitely an improvement but I'd like to see the location entry being integrated into the dialog instead of keeping it in an extra dialog. At the very least it should be better documented how to get to the text entry field. Another issue that can be solved by improving the docs is what needs to be done so that the filechooser uses icons. Hi, "Colin Bannister" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > Has anyone else experienced this difficulty? The same goes for gtk+-1.2 and gtk+-2.x. So installing gimp-2.0 and/or gtk+-2.x can hardly break your gimp-1.2 installation. What does not work is to have different versions of the gtk+-2.x libraries in the standard system search paths. Since the 2.x libraries are all backward-compatible there's also not much point for a user in having both gtk+-2.2 and gtk+-2.4 installed. If you need a newer version, then please update the one that is installed instead of installing newer version next to it. for a very long time, the gimp had a file selector that was better than any other gtk app available to me. someone bragged about how the gimp developers had designed it from gtk things. i have a feeling that someone like jimmac and/or tigert could design a file selector that would be more for the gimps needs and not a generic answer everyones needs (not gimps) widget and at least one of the gimp developers could easily put one together. removing the text entry location is a silly way to solve the tab completion problem, if this is what happened. maybe some users have a better way of stating these questions, suggestions and concerns before i attempt it on the developer list again. thanks, carol ___ Gimp-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.xcf.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user

[Gimp-user] gimp 2.1.0 development version
Hi! Still its another people who have the same tablet problem as me. A talk about this bug: http://pingus.seul.org/~grumbel/tmp/tabletbug.png Gimp 2.1.0 development version doesnt have this bug! But with gimp2.1.0 I have several problem: It can open only .xcf files not jpg and png. And the gimpprint support isnt there(at ./configrue i didnt have any warning about this) How can I enable the different file-type support? - Other things: OPEN FILE DIALOG The new file open dialog is a step backward. Its really uncomfortable. I dont have a input box where can I input the file-path. (/mnt/big/rajzok/munkaim/egyeb/papagaj.png) In general It hide completely the file-hierarchy. The old open dialog had a drop-down menu where was marked the complete path (with slash!(/)) My impression is that the unix intellectuality are completely ignored. (ex: At first look I didnt find where I am, how can I go to the root(/). Filesystem == / its a good joke.) Its not difference between the directory and the regular file. (just when I click on it). If I click on ``HOME'' button I cant go up the hierarchy (ie: /home/lama/ its my home I cant go in /home, just if I click on the left on Filesystem button.) So I must learn that: Home=/home/lama Desktop=/home/lama/Desktop Filesystem=/ (in other language is more terrible the associate, because the variable $HOME is the same but Home is translated for the local language. So isnt self-explanatory that ``Personlicher Ordner'' is /home/lama) --- Its just my opinion, and I have written it as constructive critics. I have several ideas how could be improved this file open dialog, and save some really good things from the old one. Is it help when I make a mockup of this, or is just not the case? Yes, the only exception are programs like bison (a C-code generator), who copy part of its source into the output. So you have to apply the software licence to its output. But it's a very peculiar case, and these applications, like Bison itself, are often released under less restricitive licences to allow people to use their output anyway. The problem with the Gimp is that some image formats can be patented so you may still break some law, but gimp developers surely knows more about this issue so wait for their more authoritative answers. Please note that these problems are not related to the commercial nature of your site.
