[Gimp-user] Some resources?

2005-05-25 Thread Erica
I am currently looking for extra gradients, brushes,
and patterns for the GIMP. I have a project and I
don't think the provided tools are sufficient. Does
anyone know some sites that provide the tools I
mentioned above for download? Thnx in advance.

Yes. If you want something easy, compile a hello.c...

Form Gimp-Perl's README:

"PREREQUISITES

Yes. Your package manager will help you to get all of them easily, though
(if you don't have a package manager of it fails to do this easily, your're
using the wrong platform)

I'll refuse to comment on this, because all the replies I can think of are
insulting :)

Your message will get through. Just that there is a delay of 2 - 8 hours
before it is repropagated from the list mailer.

the gimp-user list is running very slowly lately. i would be curious as
to how many are on the maillist

i have not configured my mailer very much, therefore, i try to answer
emails that were sent to the list back to the list and emails that i
know came from an individual to the individual. the emphasis should be
on the "try". i can see from the headers if the email was also sent to
the list or not, whether i actually look at those is another emotionally
charged question.

right now, you are making a mistake i often make -- although, i think
you make it on purpose. we had quite an exchange via email and most of
that i think i sent directly to you and not to the list. i relaxed and
typed as if i were typing to a thinking adult since there were words in
the emails that did not fit on a public mail list -- installing things
can be frustrating.

can i ask that you paste some (perhaps not all) of the spew you got from
when you tried to install the gimp-perl tarball? not only is the line
about the cat interesting, but also the "install pdl" and "please do not
install the pdl" error messages. send this to the whole list and await
for the list to mail it out.

i was apologizing to you (directly) for suse, even though i had nothing
to do with this distribution (to the best of my knowledge).

can i ask you personally as well as publically ... did you pay for your
suse installation and what did you expect when you installed it?

i do not know anything.

i suggested that we attach a household window fan to the top of the
computer called beta earlier this week (it was having heat problems at
berkeley) when i learned that this computer has a broken motherboard.

this was interesting news as no one has touched it since i came to
california. i was also told that it is common knowledge that this
computer is not able to be repaired.

i would like to know if anyone else has been able to determine a
computers health without touching it or plugging it in?

i spent a few days gathering urls for resources, it is not finished and
there is not as many actual resources there as are in the other urls:
http://carol.gimp.org/gimp2/resources/

there are also instructions there about how to make your own gradients
(borrowed gradients never worked well for me). making your own brushes
is outlined on the gimp web site in three tutorials. classic.gimp.org
has a tutorial about how to make seamless patterns the old fashioned
way.

http://classic.gimp.org/data.html if i remember correctly, adrian put a
few hundred gradients there.

search engines will help.

Only for suitable values of "common", IMO...
Well, as we don't know how to spend the donated money, I guess that we
should consider to buy buying one (or two, to have some redundancy?) decent,
priceworthy system for the mailing list, ftp and web servers gimp.org needs?

that is what i think also -- that there should be some power applied
before it can change status like that.

i rather liked the berkeley ip when i first got started with gimp.
since then, it seems like there are only 1.25 gimp people who have
access to hardware there.

the way my current take what sort of nightmare i am having is this, that
the mozilla people around the berkeley area will never finish with gimp
resources and that they might need to be physically removed from them.

i am impressed with my own ability to figure out what is going wrong
with software, i wonder if the same is true for my ability to figure out
what is wrong with the people making software?

i must say that out of all the documentation on my web site, this one
single page about the tablet displays the least of my knowledge.

i feel badly that i have access to such a tablet. i did not draw much
before gimp and even less since. i recently tried to loan it to akkana

i need my scanner back.

A possible reason is that mails with different From: addresses get held
for moderation but nobody does moderation (at least, all my mails that had
a different From: address than the one subscribed never reached the lists,
and I don't assume they have all been deleted by the moderator).

So make sure you use the same From: that you used to subscribe (could be
envelope-form, but I doubt that).

That's just a missing feature in the text tool. Of course the text
tool should allow you to move text layers.

Because I tried it and I made the experience that it pressing a key
with the second hand disturbs the workflow less than to switch mouse
buttons. But perhaps this needs actual user testing.

See, that is exactly my point. The feature is not discoverable and it
might make sense to exchange it for something which is probably at
least as useful but wider known.

I'm in the same boat in that I didn't "discover" the current space bar
behavior and now that I know about it, I think it's great. The reason I
didn't discover it is purely because I never thought to press the space
bar at all. I've got no issue with changing the behavior of the space
bar but the main point is I didn't know about the behavior associated
with the space bar because I never thought to press the space bar,
regardless of the functionality associated with it/

Peace...

Hi, I installed your plugin but I wasn't able to select brushes. I
noticed that the names of brushes starts with OGM so I changed this line
in your plugins:

self.config[self.name+'-brush' ], 'CGT.*' )

into

self.config[self.name+'-brush' ], 'OMG.*' )

and now works better :)
A second issue is that "load" and "save" button seem to do nothing :(
A third one is that Gimp crashes when I click on two of your brushes in
brushes window. The brushes are OGM GV500 Rim 001 Rivets (8x8) and Rock
004 (that is the same of the first).
For now I'm only "playing" with your plugins but they seem really
useful.
Thanks a lot, J
