Hello guys I have a bug about some typos that I would like to include in the next release if that is ok with you. Since they are all typos fixes you should not have major problems as the translations should match with the new fuzzy strings. Hello, There are some strings in Gnopernicus which are not correctly translated. This is subject of bug number 309039. (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=309039) Also there are patches that are not marked to be translated, but the intention was to mark them later. Currently, we're in the string change announcement period. You're free to make string changes, but need to notify gnome-i18n and gnome-doc-list. String freeze begins on the 2nd. Evolution String break request
Hi, As part of fixing http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=350617 I have attached a patch. Scenario: Some IMAP servers do not expect password to be sent in plain text. This is set in the LOGINDISABLED property of an imap-response. Evolution does not read this and sends the password in plain text if secure-authentication has failed. Impact: Sending password in plain text in a network, where it is not suggested is a vulnerability issue. Patch is at : http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=73075&action=view New string added is : Failed to connect to IMAP server <%s> in secure mode. And, Plain-text password authentication is disabled in the server. I would like to commit this to Evolution 2.8 branch (gnome-2.16) . Can someone review/approve this new string ? I'd like to request permission for some nautilus string additions.

gvfs string break request
I'd like to request permission for a string break for: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=517460 - sftp backend doesn't handle host identity messages It has 5 new string related to the dialog show when connecting to a sftp share that has changed key. gvfs string break request
We're working on http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50960 - Need network: backend implementation, which is a blocker bug for the release. However, it requires some trivial string additions. The code in svn (but not added to POTFILES.in yet) has a few strings, and as we continue implementing network: there might be some more (not sure yet). Retroactive string break request
Hi! I'm sorry, I added a last-minute change in Maps saving the state of showing the scale (we already had a keyboard shortcut to toggle showing the map scale, but it was always shown when starting). I completely forgot that adding the new gschema adds new strings for i18n. So, since there's already been some translations committed since this, I retroactively request a string freeze break. The added schema looks like this: true Show scale Whether to show the scale. So there's the summary and description string for this. I know we all hate typos, but they have been there since before 2.10 release (I only checked 2.10), so I think that they can wait for another release cycle (i.e. a month if you don't branch right away). As for previously unmarked strings which might need translation, you should mark those and notify gnome-i18n about it as soon as you do: you don't need approval for those. From the email I received from Danilo Šegan I understood that I don't need approval to mark strings for translation. That's why I marked the strings for translation (for bug http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=309039) and I notified gnome-i18n about it. String break request for Orca
This has come back to spank me square in my butt. I need to change:
_("%s level %d")
to:
_("%(role)s level %(level)d")
Although my testing and testing from a Hungarian translator (Hammer
Attila) showed that the first form worked, another Hungarian translator
(Gabor Kelemen) ended up being able to coax intltool into being more
picky. So, we need to go with the parameterized form.
Gabor has also shown me that "msgfmt -cvo /dev/null hu.po" will detect
translations that attempt to translated the parameter names (e.g.,
"(role)" and "(level)" in the above), alieving my concern about those
things getting translated by accident.

As we can consider us in a sort of 'race condition' regarding nautilus
and gvfs [1], I think we can be permissive with nautilus in this
beginning of string freeze period.

Well, as the comment says, the point of this string is to make it
possible for us to change the order of variables.
But how do you do this correctly in Python? Simply writing "%d foo %s"
does not work even in C, msgfmt complains. Writing "%2$d foo %1$s" would
work in C, but this is Python, where it doesn't.
So we have to use _("%(role)s level %(level)d") and break the freeze, if
we want to make reordering work.

Ah that's true, apologies for that and thanks for the heads-up. I've
reverted the change on gnome-3-8.
I would like to request a freeze break so we can keep the fix for 3.10.
The issue is that the scores dialog in Mahjongg displays separate scores
for different map layouts with a combo box to select the layout, but the
label for the combo box is "Size". It should be "Layout". Does not
affect documentation.
I already erroneously committed this change. I've left it be for now
since it's unfortunately already part of a larger Italian update.

Hi guys I would like to add a dialog at startup to make sure Glade users know about the survey. This requires a string and UI break even though it wont change any screenshots. The dialog looks something like this: ╔═╗ ║ ║ ║ We are conducting a user survey ║ ║ Would you like to take it now?║ ║ ║ ║ If not, you can always find it in the Help menu. ║ ║ ║ ║ ▢ Do not show this dialog again ║ ║ ╔╗ ╔═╗ ║ ║ ║ No ║ ║ Yes ║ ║ ║ ╚╝ ╚═╝ ║ ╚═╝ Once the user checks the checkbutton then the following message will be showed in the statubar instead of the dialog. It also maps to what you do with other kinds of things like network mounts, so the mount concept is not entierly new to users (even if the mounts are not normally loopback mounts, and loopback is a bit "meta"). I don't think mounting an archive is something a user who have never seen this before would think of as a possible operation, but once you've used this feature one time I don't think its particularly hard to understand (and if you never find this feature that is not a great problem). However, I don't think there is a better alternative approach. The only one I can think of is to pretend archives are directories, and that is fraught with confusion about what is a directory and what is a file both in the implementation and in the user interface, as well as lifetime cycle problems. I'd classify this as a very useful feature for some class of users, and not very interesting for others. For the second class just make file roller the default action for archives, and this will never ever show up to these users unless they look for it. String break request for GNOME Dictionary
Hi all; I have opened bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=745022 which aims at dropping deprecated API from the Dictionary application. The changes include dropping stock labels, which means introducing our own strings — which is actually good, because finally it allows us to avoid long standing collisions in the buttons mnemonic in various dialog boxes. The rest of the changes do not influence the UI or the documentation. I apologize for the lateness of the request. You are right it was rude, I was under the wrong impression of how the string break actually works and did not take the time to learn about. I thought it was a way to let translators know there were going to be untranslated "broken" strings, but now that you mention it does make more sense to introduce the break in the point release. I am sorry I had to learn the hard way and cause other people trouble. I am going to try to get more involved in the process in the future so this does not happen again. Hi all, I would like to request a freeze break for gnome-shell for https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=755755 The bug is about changing one of the string "Settings" which appears 3 times with 2 different contexts in gnome-shell to "System" with context for translators as there is already one other instance of "System" in gnome-shell. I would appreciate it if this can go in for 3.18.1 because it will make what is read out by a screen reader consistent with the documentation about the menu.
