Oops. @jsled: If this should indeed be the plural form of the weekday,

Does not the translator effect the whole string? I was thinking that the
translator would (not) use the trailing-s version depending on if it was
 appropriate for the translation.

I could certainly add more detail in comments; I've started to do that with
 strings I've added recently.

Yes, and yes. Indeed a comment explaining the second 's' would help,
and this is probably okay.

FWIW, the FreqSpec code is dead, and will be removed at some point. At the
same time, there's basically-equivalent code in Recurrence, now.

In that case a comment could be added that says precisely this.

Re: updated gnucash's french translation : fr.po

2007-07-22 Thread Christian Stimming
Hi Stéphane,

thank you very much! This is great work.

Am Samstag, 21. Juli 2007 22:43 schrieb Stéphane Raimbault:
I finished to update the French translation!
It was a really huge work, it will be nice if :

1 - ;-o) you can reduce the number of strings (more common sentences,
reducing details in errors messages, ...)

Sorry, but this won't work. In fact the situation has already been improved a
little, as I am both a translator and a developer. But especially the details
in error messages are indeed intentional. These shouldn't be reduced; rather,
in some error situations we still give too little detail in our messages. We
try to unify sentences where possible, but granted, gnucash is just a very
very very large project.

2 - in many translation tools (I use Emacs), we can follow the string
in source code but it's not often possible in GnuCash (many languages,
big file with translations from guile source) so it's hard to know in
 which context strings are used.

I know:
* The glade strings are marked as originating from a .glade.h file; you would
have to manually open the corresponding .glade file.
* The guile strings are marked as originating from the
intl-scm/guile-strings.c; if you open that file, each string is prepended by
a comment that points to the original (scheme/lisp) source file. Without line
numbers, though.

In French, it's important to know if
the string is an action (verb on button) or a description (tooltip).
 Example:
 # messages-i18n.c:139
 #: ../src/gnome/dialog-sx-editor.c:186 ../src/gnome/glade/price.glade.h:22
 #: ../src/gnome/glade/register.glade.h:85
 #: ../src/gnome/gnc-plugin-page-sx-list.c:122
 #: ../src/gnome-utils/gnc-main-window.c:221
 #: ../src/gnome/window-reconcile.c:2035
 #: ../src/report/report-gnome/report.glade.h:17
 msgid _Edit
 msgstr É_diter

Yes, this is the same problem with German, too. It's an English peculiarity
that the verb and noun are identical. In this case, Edit is used always as
a verb, never as a noun.

must have a context information (Q_, etc) to separate verb (button)
and passive form (main menu title).

Yes, we already try to do that. However, there are two problems: 1. Some
translators still don't know about the existence of the context information
and will do something wrong here, and 2. the glade files don't support the
context information so far.

 One question:
#. %s is the name of the weekday
 #: ../src/engine/FreqSpec.c:829
 #, c-format
 msgid Bi-Weekly, %ss

 Dear Yannik,

thank you very much for this 100% complete translation! That has been a lot of
work. I committed this to SVN so that it is in 2.1.5.

Did you co-ordinate this work with the other recent translators? I've included
them in CC; I guess they will contact you in case there needs to be any
further coordination. But a complete translation is of course a great thing
that has been achieved. Thanks again.

Thanks for your job, Yannick,

We can't use Vertimus[1] to translate GnuCash because I don't have SVN
access to GnuCash's repository but you can send an email with your PO
file to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
(http://www.traduc.org/mailman/listinfo/gnomefr) for review. This
method is useful to avoid some mistakes like these :

Si cette option est cochée, GnuCash montre une explicatioin de la
fonction
de sauvegarde automatique lors du premier lancement de cette
fonctionnalité.
Autrement aucune explication supplémentaire n'est montrée.

montre - affiche
explicatioin - explication
last sentence: Dans le cas contraire, aucune explication ne sera affichée.

updated gnucash's french translation : fr.po

2007-06-30 Thread Yannick LE NY
Hello,

I send you the updated gnucash's french translation : fr.po.
This file is for Gnucash 2.1.5 and include all the strings from the
latest subversion gnucash trunk.

It was a long time ago when I made my latest translation for Gnucash : 2001.
In 1998, I was the first translator for Xacc , before Xacc was renamed
in Gnucash.
And in 1998, there was only one developper : Linas Veptas.
But now there are more developpers.

Best Regards.

Hello,

I spend about 8 hours for correcting 124 fuzzy translation
and translate 65 strings that was not translated and
made tests.
Now there are 3677 strings translated in french in Gnucash.

Since 2001, when I stop to translate Gnucash, but others translators
continue to work.

I saw that in the pt.po file , you have 1583 fuzzy translation and 697
strings that was not translated.
I think that for you , the best solution is to translate : first the
menu and the account names created by Gnucash.
You can use a software like poedit that help you.
Maybe you can find some strings already translated that are the same in
portuguese from europe in the pt_BR.po file.
