[Goanet] Are Goans against Development? by Aravind Bhatikar (former IAS Officer and Chairman of the Mormugoa Port Trust)

2010-07-28 Thread roger dsouza
*Please read the Article by Mr Aravind Bhatikar in the Herald on whether
the Goans are against development. **The writer is a former IAS officer, and
former Chairman of the Mormugao Port Trust.** *
***Recently we have seen how our Goan politicians accuse Goans for opposing
their grandiose plans what they think is their idea of development which is
nothing but promoting their own selfish and vested interests in order to
pocket the kick-backs and moolah that they are raking in without a thought
of the permanent destruction in Goa.*

*Mr Bhatikar will be one of the speakers at tomorrow’s meeting at the
CANSAULIM PANCHAYAT HALL on Friday July 30th at 6:00pm that will expose the
Politicians-Builders- Government Machinery nexus that is working overtime to
destroy Goa our villages, hill slopes, Khazan lands, rivers, hinterland,
coastal areas and our Goan way of life!*

*Let us all join together in support of our brothers and sisters in
Cansaulim to preserve their beautiful village as well as all our Goan
villages! Together we shall overcome. *

*Please forward this to all! See you at the Cansaulim Panchayat Hall July 30
th at 6:00pm!*

*Are Goans against development? *

*Opposing huge projects that siphon public money for private gain isn’t
anti-development, says ARAVIND BHATIKAR *

All ‘development’ must ultimately result in a better quality of life. The
United Nations Human Development Report (HDR), brought out annually,
compares countries on the basis of the Human Development Index. The Concept
of Human Development is explained by United Nations thus:

“Human Development is a development paradigm that is about much more than
the rise or fall of national incomes. It is about creating an environment in
which people can develop their full potential and lead productive, creative
lives in accord with their needs and interest. People are the real wealth of
nations. Development is thus about expanding the choices people have to lead
lives that they value… Fundamental to enlarging these choices is building
human capabilities… The most basic capabilities for Human Development are to
lead long and healthy lives, to be knowledgeable, to have access to the
resources needed for a decent standard of living and to be able to
participate in the lives of the community.”

The Concept of Human Development explained above includes provision of
adequate educational and employment opportunities, sufficient facilities for
protection and improvement of citizens’ health and the required physical
infrastructure to facilitate and sustain continuous economic growth.
When the media discusses Development, it generally refers to physical
infrastructure like electricity generation and distribution facilities,
water treatment and sewerage plants, railways, roads, airports, government
buildings, etc. The quantum, type and quality of education, health and
social security are seldom discussed as part of development.

When Ministers and other politicians talk of development, they invariably
refer to capital works of physical infrastructure requiring considerable
government funding, which throw open welcome opportunities to siphon off
public funds for private gain. It is this last variety of development that
is increasingly being opposed, and rightly so, in the last few years by
Goans.

Goa is by size the smallest state in the country. But its per capita income
is higher and socio-economic indicators better than most states in India.
Successive Chief Ministers of Goa have been flying to Delhi almost every
year to receive the ‘Best State’ award, whatever it may mean.
The above achievements would not have been possible if Goans had objected to
building of railway lines, roads, bridges, school and college buildings,
hospitals, community halls, government offices, etc. Goans have never
objected to any ‘development’ perceived to be environment-friendly and
supportive of a better quality of life.

Unfortunately, the economic boom in the country, though a boon elsewhere,
has proved to be a bane for those residing in the coastal talukas of Goa.
The stampede of the rich, famous and ‘nouveau-riche’ from Delhi and Mumbai
to acquire holiday homes in this land of sun, sand and surf, coupled with a
new genre of fly-by-night and mercenary real estate operators in unholy
alliance with greedy and unscrupulous politicians, has set off loud and
clear alarm bells like never before.

Goa’s shoddily maintained and hopelessly managed infrastructure is but a
part of the non-existent governance in the state. Elusive power supply
(should we be happy that it is worse in some other states?), shortage of
drinking water (Did you say Goa receives 110 inches of rainfall every
year?), and the garbage woes of the smallest sized state in the country (How
do they manage in Kolkata and Mumbai?) are not the only reasons why Goans
are opposing unbridled and senseless expansion in private housing in coastal
talukas

be said of virtually anything.

>lynching mob where to go?

As someone who did live in the Deep South of the United States
20 years ago, your remarks have no resemblance to the then prevailing
racial climate. By the way, there did exist good, cold white women as well.

At any rate, you have got to be crazy equating the atmosphere that once
defined the American South to the current time in Goa. This is in the
category of "not even wrong" so I will not expend any energy pointing
out the error in your thinking.

>On another point, I do agree with respecting the
>sentiments of the majority; after all, those of who are here protesting, do
not

What if someone does not want to "respect the sentiments" of
the majority as perceived by a minority section of that majority?
In a free democratic society, that ought to be allowed.
Which is exactly the point of this discussion. Why don't you reflect
on this for a minute before looking so silly on a public forum?

[Goanet] Into the Diaspora Wilderness

2010-07-28 Thread Gilbert Lawrence
Thanks for reading my post and responding.

Those who study and report on the past can best help us by providing useful
tips
(based on the past) on how to improve the present. Or else the researchers are
merely churning the pot, using others as a foot-stool to stand-on and not
being too intellectual.

Unfortunately as you suggest, we see quite a bit of that (demonizing) on
goanet,
from individuals whom one would have thought should know better.  Is that the
look of a fish-face?:=))

Regards, GL

--- Gabe Menezes

It is true without the past there is no present and without the present there
is
no future. Yet there is some fish face out there who will comment - words to
the
effect, some dwell on the past.

  Gilbert Lawrence

individual Goans being pioneers and breaking the 'glass ceiling.'  This made it
much easier for those who followed them.

CULTURAL RELATIVITY (which is still a maturing science) studies customs in the
context of culture as a whole and how it works relative to the existing
environment and socio-economic patterns of the society.  This is obviously a
much more nuanced study.  Cultural Relativity in a multi-cultural
society is theoretically enlightening, but in practice it can lead to social
disruption, even in today's world.

[Goanet] A JUDGE SHOULD ALWAYS BE ABOVE BIAS

2010-07-28 Thread Aires Rodrigues
A judge is expected to always be above bias or prejudice in his official
capacity. But it is not always so. Some years ago I raised an issue relating
to a daughter of a High Court judge. She was at the time a student of the
Law College at Miramar and drove herself to college in an official
government car with a red beacon. At least on one occasion that I know, she
met with an accident leaving the tax payer to foot the bill.

It was clearly the misuse of a government vehicle and unacceptable under any
circumstances. The Judge took personal offence and always gave me an angry
look in court, obviously for having pointed out the misconduct of his
daughter. Everyone comes within the ambit of the long arm of the law. Did I
err in standing up against something that was wrong? It’s over five years
now but it is a question I still ask myself. Perhaps the answer will always
evade me.

[Goanet] The Lost Supper -- another view (Allwyn Fernandes)

2010-07-28 Thread Goanet Reader
The Lost Supper -- another view

By Allwyn Fernandes
allwyn.fernan...@gmail.com

I know this is going to upset many, but I must raise it.

Ancy D'Souza has written a letter to Jaideep Bose,
Editor of The Times of India protesting against the
cartoon titled "The Lost Supper" in the Sunday
Times of India issue dated July 25, 2010. You can
  see the cartoon at

http://lite.epaper.timesofindia.com/getpage.aspx?pageid=18&pagesize&edid&edlabel=TOIM&mydateHid=25-07-2010&pubname&edname&publabel=TOI

Ancy (and many others who share his sentiments on Facebook)
says that the cartoon has hurt the religious sentiments of
Christians deeply by projecting Laxman's Common Man as the
centre of the Lost Supper, with politicians of all hues
sitting around him. The cartoon symbolises the situation in
India today, especially over the past year -- as food prices
spiral upwards and politicians serve up empty promises, the
common man is left empty-handed and with an empty stomach.

But Ancy sees it differently: "You have made mockery of our
religious beliefs. Kindly apologize for the blunder you have
created or else we may have to plan a very stringent course
of action," says his letter to Bose, the editor of The Times.

But is the cartoon really offensive and has it made a mockery
of our religious beliefs?

If Ancy visits my home, above my dining table is a painting
from the Philippines titled "Table of Hope." It depicts Jesus
at the table, with a lot of ragged and dirty street urchins
around him instead of the apostles. There is also a cute
little urchin hiding under the table!

Everyone who has dined at my table has marveled at
the artist's depiction of what Jesus would do today
-- round up and invite us to his table not priests,
bishops and cardinals in pink fancy wear, not even
  us Catholics praying in churches.

No, he would round up the urchins, the poor and the hungry at
our railway stations and bus stands and in our schools and
break bread with them. Yes, there is deep hunger even in
Mumbai -- thousands come to school hungry even in our
Catholic schools because their parents have no jobs or the
money to give them a proper meal. That picture was not given
to me by an atheist or agnostic, but by a solid SVD priest,
Fr Franz-Josef Eilers, Secretary of the Office of Social
Communications of the Federation of Asian Bishops'
Conferences.

I believe that the Sunday Times of India cartoon, by using a
scene that symbolizes Christianity's most solemn moment,
depicts the picture in India today very powerfully.

What are we protesting against? Did not Jesus say "whatever
you do to the least of my brethren, you do it to me"? Did He
not say, and have countless artists down the centuries not
portrayed good being done to the poor, the hungry, the sick,
the tired and the dispossessed as being done to Jesus
himself? Then how are our sentiments hurt?

That Common Man in the cartoon, dispossessed of his
meal, represents Jesus himself. And around him in
the cartoon you see politicians of all hues,
fussing around him. Was everyone around the last
Supper pure of heart? Did you not have a Judas whom
countless artists have painted with his thirty
pieces of silver? And did not Peter refuse to let
Jesus wash his feet? Didn't those 12 men that we
believe were round the table with Jesus at his last
meal not human beings, with all their human
failings -- just like those depicted in the
  cartoon?

It is time to take a broader view.

That cartoon is something I would enlarge and put up in every
church and use for reflection of the hunger that exists in
our country today -- hunger of every kind, while the
politicians huff and puff without purpose around the hungry
Common Man at the centre of it all.

Fernandes was earlier the chief reporter of the Times of
India, Bombay for a long stint.

CONTROVERSY: THE JOSE PEREIRA PAINTINGS

Below is a statement
from Dr Delio Mendonca
of the Alto Porvorim-
based Xavier Centre of
Historical Research
following the controversy
over an exhibition of
paintings there.

The XCHR regrets to announce the temporary withdrawal of
three paintings from its latest art exhibition, 'Epiphanies
of the Hindu Gods' by the eminent Sanskrit scholar and
wide-ranging intellectual giant, Dr. Jose Pereira.

For the last twenty-four hours, the Centre has come
under sustained pressure from the Hindu Janjagruti
Samiti and its members, who have filed a police
complaint against Dr. Pereira's paintings, and
indulged in a non-stop campaign of telephone
threats and warnings to the point of disrupting
normal communications for the XCHR. The anonymous
telephone calls have included many threats of
violence, including a threat of decapitation of the
80-yr-old artist, who incidentally suffers from
  Parkinson's disease.

Dr. Pereira's 'Epiphanies of the Hindu Gods' are based
entirely on original Sanskrit scriptures, and their imagery
is derived entirely from the most characteristic iconography
of ancient India.

He has compiled a small encyclopedia of references to
classical Indian sculpture and painting that back up every
aspect of every painting in this exhibition, which have been
rendered in the same artistic spirit in which Dr. Pereira
paints nude images of Christ (also on display in the same
gallery). Contrary to the claim that these images are against
Indian culture, they actually embody the highest cultural
ideals of our great civilization.

Though the XCHR is co-operating with the police request to
temporarily withdraw these paintings, it strongly condemns
the threats and disrespect shown to this great Goan scholar.

We also regret the inconvenience caused to the art and
culture lovers of our state, and take the opportunity to
apologize to Dr. Pereira on behalf of the people and society
of Goa, which has again demonstrated a systemic failure in
its capacity to honour, appreciate and stand by its greatest
artists and intellectuals.

[Goanet] RTI: Abel, Francis and Manohar

2010-07-28 Thread J. Colaco < jc>
The following might be a possible solution.

Ms. Abel, for her part, may wish to read the Act esp Section 3 of
the Central Act. I believe the Goa "rules" for RTI refer primarily to
the Central Act. http://egov.goa.nic.in/rtipublic/rtiact2005.pdf

Mr. Francis D'Souza and Mr. Manohar Parrikar may wish to advise IF
they agree or disagree with Ms Abel's position and suggestion.

That should clear any misconceptions that any person (with or without
a normally Catholic surname)may have about the BJP and the Catholic
church in Goa. This is specially so with cognisance of the 'swadeshi
Catholic church' floater from a few years ago.

Breach of privilege charges could be brought against several
newspapers for carrying what Mapusa MLA Francis D'Souza is a
michievous ploy to turn the people of the minority community against
the Bharatiya Janata Party. An application was placed before different
members of the ad-hoc committee for Law by a "Catholic lady" one
Antonia Michelle Abel, asking that the office of the Archbishop
Patriarch of Goa and Daman be brought within the ambit of the RTI Act.
RTI can only be used to get information from government offices.

Oppositon Leader Manohar Parrikar said, the same petition had come to
him and he had referred it to the Home Department.

'Francis D’Souza did the same thing. He studied it and sent it on to
the Law Department for examination. There was no recommendation on it'

“This is a very sensitive issue, because it can give a wrong
impression of a legislature group or MLA, because he is also a
Catholic. Luckily the Chairman (Francis D’Souza) is Catholic and the
Member (Reginaldo Lourenco) is also Catholic. Now this report will be
put on the internet and quoted all the time that BJP is trying to
interfere in the functioning of the Catholic Church. This is
mischievous,” said Parrikar.

Mickky addresses Assembly demands arrest of Roy Naik
http://www.targetgoa.com/newsd.php?id=774

1: (Mickky) took objection that the Crime Branch raided his house
while he was Minister without informing him.
2: He said if they had any shred of evidence that he caused Nadia’s
death in any way, they should produce it, and he will resign instantly
as MLA.
3: He demanded that Roy Naik son of Home Minister Ravi Naik be arrested.

Dear Mickky,

For the record, allow me to say how happy I am that you have been
released from 'police custody'. It would have been better, I believe,
for you have been available to the police for questioning, right from
the very start, instead of going into hiding and then applying for
anticipatory bail; the CCU admission having been noted.

Having said that, and with the preface that a determination of
anyone's guilt or innocence can only be made by a court of law upon
evaluation of 'all the facts of the case', I personally believe that
#s1 & 3 (as - attributed to you) are ridiculous.

re #1: Why should the police inform you that they are raiding your
private residence? Because you are a special servant of the people and
hence should be treated above what your masters (voters) are treated
by law?

re #3: If you have (to quote from 'you') any shred of evidence, should
you not present it to the police?

The only consolation is that you were apparently speaking (with
immunity) in the House. Normally, political speeches in the 'House'
(all over the world) are taken with a generous pinch of salt - as they
are classic examples of grandstanding.

[Goanet] Xavier Research Institute , Porvorim on Dr. Jose Pereira's Art Exhibition - A full report

Herald Reporter, Panjim- July 27

Three paintings showing two naked Hindu deities making merry with nude women
were withdrawn from an exhibition at Xavier Research Institute at Porvorim.
Hindu Janjagruti Samiti [HJS] held a protest, which forced the institution
to withdraw the paintings depicting naked Lord Krishna and Lard Shiva
reveling with unclothed women.
Inspector Devendra Gad informed that the exhibition was withdrawn completely
following a protest by the Hindu J-right wing members.
HJS spokesperson Nilkanth Chodankar filed a complaint with the Porvorim
Police Station demanding withdrawal of paintings and action against
painter - Dr. Jose Pereira.
'We reached the exhibition hall immediately after receiving a formal
complaint. The organizers told us that they did not want any communal
conflict, hence withdrew the paintings," Gad told reporters.
Chodankar meanwhile has also written to the Chief Minister Digamber Kamat,
Home Minister Ravi Naik and Director General of Police Bhim Sain Bassi about
the paintings.
One may recollect, HJS had also launched protests against painter MF Hussain
and artist Subodh Kerkar, as these artists too depicted Hindu deities in
various forms.
Kerkar's installations showing Lord Ganesh in controversial positions
invited anguish from Hindu groups, last year. He also faced apparent threats
and police complaint under Section 149 of IPC which deals with hurting
religious sentiments.

REPORT:

Today, 29 July, 2010, I and my colleague Adv. Antonio Lobo visited Xavier
Research Institute to take part in the Dr. Jose Pereira recital of ancient
Khell tiatr and the workshop on ancient art & culture in the Konkani
language. Dr. Jose Pereira, in spite of his age and affliction of
Parkinson's diseases was excellent at the recital of the ancient khell tiatr
which got him a vociferous applause. This was followed by questions taken by
Dr. Jose Pereira and Prof. Rafael Fernandes from the audience which totalled
approximately around 50 +

As the function came to a close, we were informed about the delegation from
the HJS waiting to accost Dr. Jose Pereira. At that point we came to know
about the anonymous phone calls received by the Xavier Research Institute
threatening violence and even cutting off of Dr. Jose Pereira's hands as
well as of decapitating him.
It is here that we both decided to hang on until the show-down was over. We
also requested the audience to sit-in while the HJS delegation quizzed Dr.
Jose Pereira by not leaving him alone with the unruly crowd. The group was
told to put their queries to Dr. Jose Pereira while they were recorded and
watched by the audience, which they did not anticipate. Gauging the hostile
atmosphere, the group cowed-down to asking certain clarifications from Dr.
Jose Pereira in a decent manner citing their hurt sentiments and also
thanking the authorities of the Institute and Dr. Jose Pereira for
withdrawing the 3 paintings earlier. They listed 6 more pictures which
according to them were sensitive and wanted them removed too. When they
questioned Dr. Pereira as to how he could depict Lord Krishna as a kid
lover, Dr. Jose relapsed into authoritative Sanskrit recital which not only
took us by surprise but also the HJS group. It is then that the leader of
the group (lady in white sari and holding the microphone) admitted that she
was not learned at all but felt that the scriptures are wrongly interpreted.
Professor Rafael explained that there is no such thing as singular
interpretation in literature and that multiple interpretations give colour
and vigour to the literature etc which strikes a healthy balance rather
that a monotonous dictum or words to that effect.

Fr. Delio Mendonca appreciated the group's initiative to seek dialogue and
peaceful resolution of the problem and asked the group to put in writing
their further demands and that those shall be looked into subsequently. Adv.
Antonio Lobo, addressing the group made very clear that the threat
perception shall not be tolerated and democratic dialogue should be sought
to resolve any and all problems and misunderstandings. That the group has
made a mistake by publishing the phone numbers of the Xavier Research
Institute so that the Institute may be subjected to anonymous phone
threats, which rained through-out last 24 hours. That if they were
civilized, they should have published their own phone numbers as well so
that the pro-exhibitionists could phone in and identify the members of the
HJS and their difficulties.

The audience dispersed only when the group had left the Institute.

A very strong signal has been sent to this unruly keepers of morals and the
so called religious watch-dogs that they shall not be able to threaten their
way into the society through goondagiri, and that they will have to resort

Indian media reveal details of British submarine operations

Defence chiefs were furious after the Indian authorities disclosed
that Royal Navy submarines were taking part in secret naval war games
off the coast of Goa.

Bharadwaj in Bangalore

The whereabouts of British warships is usually kept a closely-guarded
secret, with Ministry of Defence officials refusing to confirm even
which ocean a particular vessel is operating in.

But hours before the games began, the Times of India published full
details of the exercise, in which the "hunter-killer" Trafalgar Class
HMS Talent was tasked with tracking down the Indian sub INS Shankush.

In a further breach of security, the newspaper even named the
commander of the UK task group, Commodore James Morse, who headed a
nine-member British Navy team which took on an 11-man contingent from
India under the leadership of the commander of the INS Talwar, Captain
M A Hampiholi.

The exercise came mid-way through a three-day trade mission by David
Cameron and a delegation of business leaders and chief executives.

Downing Street was irritated that news of Mr Cameron's visit was
reported in the Indian press more than a week before his arrival.

There is usually a news blackout on the Prime Minister's foreign
travel arrangements until he arrives in a country, and the rule is
particularly scrupulously observed for trips in areas where terrorism
is an issue.

The war games are also likely to alarm Pakistan, India's great
regional rival who Mr Cameron accused of "promoting terror".

Pakistanis were also alarmed at a pds700 deal signed during the visit,
between British companies Rolls Royce and BAR to supply 57 Hawk
trainer aircraft to India, which will create 200 new jobs in the
United Kingdom.

Mr Cameron said: "This is an outstanding example of India-UK defence
and industrial partnership, and this agreement will bring significant
economic benefits to both our countries."

The Government has also lifted a ban on the export of nuclear
technology and exponents, despite India's failure to sign up to a
non-proliferation treaty.

Re: [Goanet] All Religions for Human Integral Development

2010-07-28 Thread J. Colaco < jc>
In this 'debate', I agree with Dr. UG Barad.

If only Christians would have lived like Christ (and I am not saying
that most don't), i.e. honest, hardworking, courteous, simple etc,
there would have been countless more conversions (true conversions) to
Christianity.

And while it may be true that the vast majority of Catholic clergy is
good etc + that the abuse is prevalent in all sections of many
societies, the Catholic Church lost it's previously held (by many)
moral ground by not acting swiftly to stamp out the curse of the
child-abuse scandal, and worse still by attempting to cover it up.

The Church also lost a good number of members and a whole pile of
money which could have been used for charitable purposes.

Fr. Ivo's arguments are good .but they are equivalent to painting
the kitchen to make it look pretty, while the house is on fire.

[Goanet] Mickky addresses Assembly demands arrest of Roy Naik

2010-07-28 Thread Gabe Menezes
Mickky addresses Assembly demands arrest of Roy Naik
2010-07-28

Mickky Pacheco stood up in great dignity in the House and addressed the
Assembly and the people of Goa. He made his hurt felt at the injustice meted
out to him by the police at the behest of their boss, the Home Minister. He
demanded that as he was arrested without any evidence other than the
accusations of NGOs, so too should Roy Naik, son of Home Minister Ravi Naik,
be arrested immediately and taken into custody for custodial interrogation.

Pacheco accused the Chief Minister of speaking to his NCP supremo Sharad
Pawar and telling him that there was “clinching evidence” of Mickky’s guilt.
After Pacheco finished his address to the house, Chief Minister Digambar
Kamat stood up and categorically denied having spoken to Sharad Pawar or
anyone else in the NCP about Mickky Pacheco.

He opened his statement with pretty much the same information that he had
given to the Press a month ago, when he said that his friend, family friend
Nadia was in distress and he helped her monetarily as a friend, and he did
all in his power to save her life.

He took objection that the Crime Branch raided his house while he was
Minister without informing him. He was glad, he said, that they found
nothing. He accused the Chief Minister of telling the NCP chief that he had
clinching evidence of Mickky’s guilt in the case. He said if they had any
shred of evidence that he caused Nadia’s death in any way, they should
produce it, and he will resign instantly as MLA. If they cannot, he said,
the Chief Minister must make a statement of take action against the police
department.

Mickky said that there were other issues along with Nadia’s death, the drugs
nexus and the excise scam. He was the only minister who wrote a letter to
the CM asking him to hand over the Nadia case, the drugs nexus case and the
excise scam case to the CBI. As a citizen he said, he approached the
judiciary and when he lost in the Supreme Court he surrendered before the
state.

He said that he wanted to make a point. He had not committed any economical
offence but all his bank accounts were frozen and it looked like the police
wanted to put his family out on the street. He expressed particular hurt
over the Red Corner notices issued against him. “There are so many cases
from Central Government where there are people who have done many things,
committed many crimes, but no one had ever had a Red Corner notice put out
against them not only in the country, but internationally too,” said
Pacheco.

He demanded that Roy Naik son of Home Minister Ravi Naik be arrested. He
said only minority leaders have been arrested in this House. He pointed out
to Churchill Alemao who was behind bars for 6 months in all. Monserrate,
Joaquim Alemao. He said it was no coincidence that it was the same Home
Minister and the same police official who were common in all arrests. He
wanted the case to be thoroughly investigated.

The CM stood up and said that he was making a statement on record. He had
neither spoken to Sharad Pawar or anyone else from the NCP regarding Mickky
Pacheco.

*TARGET GOA* is of the considered opinion that if Mickky Pacheco had argued
his own case instead of letting his lawyers Palekar and Desai mess things up
for him. He would not have had to hide in a boat, or sleep in jail cells at
Calangute Police Station or one night at Sada, or alternate between hospital
bed and interrogation.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Dr Jose Pereira's interview. I think the dolorous
discontent of his generation should be a mooring point for our generation. We
should hearken to it; it is a call to preserve everything majestic about that
era in Goa and pass it on to our own children.

Best,

2010-07-28 Thread U. G. Barad
Fr. Ivo vide Message: 7, dated: Sun, 25 Jul 2010 finally wrote on above
subject: "Dear Dr.U.G.Barad, You are distorting my clarion-call and the
teaching of Christianity by linking with "gay sex scandal" in Italy or in
India. I have quoted Hindu wisemen and people of integrity..."

My response: Fr. Ivo it is up to you to interpret on my straight-forward
questions posed to you. In fact, your earlier message(s) prompted me to ask
you those questions. Most importantly I have not linked Christianity with
gay sex scandals. If at all you have to blame for destroying your
clarion-call and your teachings ..blame those clergy involved in gay sex.
For entire world knows the involvement of clergy in gay sex scandal as well
as the apologetic response of most respected Benedict.

More over, you being a clergy I thought I would get more clarity on the
issues involved. But from your above answer I conclude that our "India will
never shine" in the way you projected it earlier.

Best regards,

Re: [Goanet] Bleddy Goans and an East Indian bugger

2010-07-28 Thread floriano

On the word 'EXPOSE',
I am reminded of this joke which synchronizes my take on the topic of
George's write-up, thanks George, thanks Camilo.

Lawyers should never ask grandmas a question if they aren't prepared for the
answer!

In a trial, a small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, an
elderly grandmother to the stand. He approached her and asked; "Mrs.
Jones, do you know me?"

She responded, "Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since
you were a young boy, and frankly, you're a big disappointment to me.. You
lie, cheat on your wife, manipulate people and talk about them behind their
backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize
you never will amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I
know you.."

The lawyer was stunned! Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the
room and asked, "Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney (the
opponent's lawyer)?"

She again replied, "Why, yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a
youngster. He's lazy, bigoted, and has a drinking problem. He can't build a
normal relationship with anyone and his law practice is one of the worst in
the state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different
women. One of them was your wife. ..Yes I know him."

The defense attorney almost died.

The judge asked both lawyers to approach the bench and in a quiet voice
said: "If either of you rascals asks her if she knows me, I'll send you to
jail for contempt of court !!!

[Goanet] TALIBAN FIGHTER's & GOA BOMBAY KONKAN VIDHARBH SEZs FSIs TDRs CRZs

2010-07-28 Thread M D
The Taliban fighters are a very brave people. They don’t have fighter jets,
attack helicopters, laser guided missiles but what the Taliban have is the
courage & will power to challenge the Americans, Britishers & European
forces. This is similar to the anti-sez & anti-landacquisition activists in
India who inspite of meager resources have the courage and will power to
challenge the Indian govt. and State govts. who are trying to grab the lands
of farmers/tribals. Majority of SEZs are in the konkan belt and the people
in konkan have realized that SEZs will not benefit them but it will benefit
corporates, politicians and migrants.

Most of the Corporates/Industrialists are into SEZ’s not for setting up any
industries but for Real Estate speculation which every anti-sez activists
knows. Some of the corporates have already started constructing residential
complexes on land that was given by govt. for SEZ purpose. What is strange
is how can the government allow the corporates for utilizing SEZ land for
Real Estate when the purpose of SEZ was to setup
electronicparks/itparks/softwarehardwareparks/etc. This proves the ruling
party politicians have got their commission from the corporates.

Some politicians/activists/politicalorganizations in Maharashtra & Goa have
a mission of changing the name of Goa to Govapuri and of merging Govapuri
with Maharashtra.

Some Industrialists & Politicians in Bombay and Delhi have a mission of
making Bombay a Union Territory.

Some politicians/activists/politicalorganizations in Vidharbh & Konkan have
a mission of freeing Vidharbh & Konkan from Maharashtra State and creating
Vidharbh State & Konkan State.

The infrastructure is crumbling in Bombay but the politicians are not
bothered they are only bothered in giving Unlimited Floor Space Index
(FSIs), more Transfer of Development Rights (TDRs), more Relaxation in
Coastal Regulation Zones (CRZs) all for the benefit for the Builders Lobby
and every tom, dick and harry knows that politicians in bombay and the rest
of Maharashtra are hand in glove with the builders lobby.

Please remember the Bombay Muncipal Corporation is being administered and
ruled by criminals and corrupt people. All these criminals and corrupt
people are hand in glove with the slumlords & builders lobby. Without the
blessings of BMC no slums and no illegal buildings can come up anywhere in
bombay. The BMC urges citizens in Bombay to use water responsibly but the
same BMC keeps clearing building proposals which has resulted in acute water
shortage. The building proposal department in BMC is the most corrupt
department in BMC.

The Portuguese in the 15th century gave the seven islands - kolibhat, lahan
kolibhat, sion, mahim, mumbadevi, parel, mazgaon - the name Bom Bahia. The
British who took over the seven islands anglicized the name BomBahia to
Bombay. The Political party that came to power in Maharashtra in 1995
corrupted the name Bombay to Mumbai based on a false propaganda that the
British had corrupted the name Mumbai to Bombay when the fact is there did
not exist any city by the name Mumbai anywhere in history.

The British had an ambition of taking over konkan from the Portuguese but
did not have the manpower. The Marathas, Bajiraos, Peshwas in Pune (then
punaka) also had an ambition of taking over konkan from Portuguese but did
not have the arms and ammunitions to match the Portuguese military power.

The Britishers realized as long as the Portuguese were around they would
never be able to rule India so they held secret meetings with the Marathas,
Bajiroas, Peshwas in Pune and made some treaties and provided them with arms
and ammunitions.

With the manpower and arms & ammunitions the Marathas, bajiraos, peshwas
succeeded in taking over Konkan from Portuguese. Later on the Britishers
pitched the marathas, bajiraos, peshwas against each other and took over
konkan the rest is history.

The Britishers went into Asia not only to Trade & conquer lands but also to
sabotage the catholic mission of the Portuguese. Fortunately after the
second world war the britishers were not in a position to carry on with
their anti-catholic mission in Asia.

Britain is no longer a military power. Its land is being filled with Asians,
Africans, Easteuropeans. Majority of the British white women are producing
only 1 child. A few decades down the line the Britishers will become
minority and they will work as servants in the offices/factories/bungalows
of Asians, Africans, Easteuropeans.

Mark D'souza
Bombay.
