Funky house * Zaros * Ashley Fernandes https://soundcloud.com/zarosmusic/on-the-rocks-orginal-mix FROM THE WIKIPEDIA: Funky house is a sub-genre of house music that uses funk samples, a funk-inspired bass line or a strong soul influence, combined with drum breaks that draw inspiration from 1970s and 1980s funk records. Like most variants of house, the genre follows a traditional four to the floor house beat, and makes heavy use of synthesizers, samples and soulful vocals, although unlike in more electronically bent Chicago and deep house, presence of acoustic instrumentation is much more common -- FN Land +91-832-240-9490 Cell +91-982-212-2436 f...@goa-india.org\
[Goanet-News] Goanet Reader: Goanet Reader: Exploiting disasters, and the disaster of exploitation (Radharao Gracias)
EXPLOITING DISASTERS, AND THE DISASTER OF EXPLOITATION Radharao F.Gracias graciasradha...@gmail.com India dominated world hockey for about three and a half decades either side of independence. Today, we struggle even to qualify for major tournaments. Teams we used to rout in our glory days are now doing the same thing to us. Some years ago, a group of people -- mostly Indians in Britain -- were discussing the reasons for the decline. After hearing the various opinions, an Englishman who was part of the group disagreeing with them said, Not at all. It is easy to see the reason, behind India's hockey decline. What is that? interjected another member of the group. Oh said the Englishman, you see, when the Indians are awarded a corner, they convert it into a kiosk! He was alluding to the tendency of immigrant Indians to set up kiosks in every conceivable corner of England. Ironically, two centuries earlier Napoleon Bonaparte had called Britain a nation of shopkeepers. But then Napoleon had not heard of the Banias. Right now, all attention is focussed on the catastrophe caused by unsettling weather conditions in the young north Indian state of Uttarakhand. News reports coming from survivors are disturbing. Those who are in need of urgent food and care are being exploited, by cynical local people. A bowl of rice, is sold at Rs600, a chapatti at Rs180 and a litre of water at Rs100 which in the words of Samuel Taylor Coleridge would be a case of water, water everywhere... and not a drop to drink. We have not lost our shopkeeper mentality, even in the worst of human disasters. The situation seems to say, Give Indians a disaster and they will convert it into a kiosk! Compassion, mercy and charity (although not always adhered to) is the basis of every religion. I had learnt in school that the Shankaracharya had travelled all over the country in the ninth century to revive Hinduism and he set up mutts at Dwarka, Puri, Sringeri (I have been there) and Badrinath. The latter along with Kedarnath, is the epicentre of the present disaster. The area is holy and it is mostly pilgrims and local residents who were the victims. I am left wondering how in such a place there could be such complete lack of piety, compassion, charity and mercy, the bulwarks of all religion. Is this all that we see for the Shankaracharya's efforts, all those long years ago? There has been no report of any of the nationalist and patriotic organisation in the rescue efforts at least in the early days. Where exactly are the RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal or the Ram Sene? I suppose this disaster called for their efforts. I would not be surprised, if all these organisations make an appearance now, claiming post facto heroism. We have been witnesses to such dubious heroism by our freedom fighters, many of whom were collaborators with the Portuguese but became freedom fighters after the Portuguese were dislodged. In the bargain it is the genuine freedom fighters who have languished and the frauds prospered. Perhaps, the Hindutuva brigade would have been fully active, if somehow the disaster was linked to the 'Jihadis'! We have witnessed on TV, the untiring efforts of our armed forces in rescuing the victims, under great peril to their own lives. Seeing the self-sacrifices being made by these brave-hearts, we are assured that our defences are in safe hands. Several of the defence personnel have died in the rescue missions but they have continued, undaunted. That is what patriotism, courage and valour is all about. And now, enter Narendra Modi. He rescues fifteen thousand Gujaratis, in forty eight hours! A world record perhaps! And by this dubious claim the man tipped to be the next Prime Minister has demeaned and undone the herculean efforts of our armed forces, under overwhelming odds. There is only one message from Narendra Modi, and that is: before he came on the scene, the armed forces were simply inefficient and incompetent and therefore the fifteen thousand Gujaratis had remained trapped! Is there any other interpretation possible? I was not unhappy when Narendra Modi was anointed the prospective PM by the BJP, here in Goa. The man appeared to be focussed and we certainly do not need another five years, of remote control by the Mambo Italiano. But then, within no time Narendra Modi has shown that Godhra was no aberration. In fact, the Godhra Albatross now hangs heavily around his neck. Consider; a man projected as the next Prime Minister goes in the disaster area and selectively rescues only Gujaratis. Does he not know that in matters of rescue, all that matters is humanity and there are no racial or regional identifications? After Godhra it was massacre the Muslims and protect the Hindus. In Uttrakhand, it is save the Gujaratis, ignore the rest.

[Goanet] AirASia's India strategy : source : www.firstpost.com
AirAsia’s India strategy: Lowest possible fares, aggressive expansion AirAsia, which plans to launch a budget airline in India later this year, will aggressively expand its fleet and is looking to add at least 10 planes a year, Chief Executive Tony Fernandes told reporters in Mumbai on Monday. Fernandes said AirAsia would want to offer the lowest possible fares in its Indian operations. Tony Fernandes “Airasia India success depends on low fares and low-cost structure. We have done it for 11 years. India is no different,” Fernandes said, adding “Indian airlines definitely don’t want us to succeed but we will fight back and break conventional wisdom”. AirAsia, the largest budget carrier in Asia, plans to launch a regional airline in India with an initial investment of Rs 80 crore to cash in on rising demand for domestic air travel among the country’s rapidly expanding middle class. “Air Asia India already has its planes in place. We have ten pilots and 16 cabin crew for India ops already. We have already hired 50 people in India and plan on doubling this headcount by the end of the year”, said Fernandes adding that the airline requires 56 to 57 percent occupancy to break even in India. Tata Group and investment firm Telestra Tradeplace are its partners in the venture. He also said that AirAsia has got positive feedback from low-cost airports in India. The company will ultimately operate Delhi and Mumbai sectors too, but there is no rush right now due to the high cost of airports and heavy taxation on aviation fuel, he said. He also clarified the company was not targeting IndiGo pilots. A PTI report had earlier said quoting sources that IndiGo may lose a good chunk of its commanders to AirAsia India as around 100 of its pilots have applied for jobs with the proposed carrier. Fernandes stressed on the right culture and right people for AsiaAsia to succeed in India. Reminiscing about Air Asia Malyasia’s early days, Fernandes said the only of growing and becoming a market leader is by nurturing your people. From drivers to baggage attendants, AirAsia’s crew has been given the opportunity to charter planes to their hometowns, which ultimately led to a 19 percent growth in margins for the airline. “That’s how you build an airline. Give everyone an opportunity and treat everyone equally. This is what sets us apart from other airlines,” he added. About 11 years ago, AirAsia catered to two lakh passengers and this year we it carry about 44 million passengers. That kind of growth has not happened in India, Fernandes noted. “We will be explaining to the government how we have developed a complete aviation market. The biggest beneficiaries of low cost carriers would be small and medium businesses, tourism segment and migratory workforce. So, we are trying to explain our successful model and how government can facilitate it,” he said today, while talking about his growth strategy in India. The airline will start with three Airbus aircraft with sharklets and add one aircraft every month. Fernandes hopes to have a fleet of 12 aircraft by next year. “Every operator is focused on Delhi and Mumbai. We will start looking at lot of new destinations and at the markets that have been under served. For example, Tiruchi in the south. No operator had connectivity to Tiruchi from Kulala Lumpur and it has an average load factor of over 80 percent. We like to do things no one has done before,” he said.

[Goanet] Wagh accuses Campal association of extortion
Wagh accuses Campal association of extortion PANJIM: Even as the Campal Residents Welfare Association (CRWA), have defended itself in the face of increasing criticism, and their councillor Kabir Pinto Makhija being accused of extorting money from film producers, Vice Chairman of the Entertainment Society of Goa Vishnu Wagh has termed the acts of the residents as “nothing but extortion.” It may be recalled that on Thursday evening, the Campal Residents Welfare Association, led by Patricia Pinto, Armando Gonsalves, and famous fashion designer Wendell Rodricks said they felt it was “very fair” on their part to ask the film producers to give them a donation or not shoot in Campal. And the donation they sought is not a small amount. In the two instances where they have sought and received a donation they collected hefty fees of Rs 50,000 and one-lakh -- matching the rate the CCP charges for allowing film shoots. That they are not a registered body and yet choose to grant themselves the power to permit or reject the filming of shootings in their area, and seek to shield themselves behind the fact that they have granted a “receipt” hasn’t helped their cause. The very legality of granting a receipt by an unregistered organization is being questioned. “It is nothing but extortion. How can they collect money?” Wagh asked. “They are ruining the name not only of Panjim but of the whole state,” he added. Coming at a time when the government was looking to promote the state as a destination of film shootings Wagh said was badly affecting the state. “In the near future the film shootings in the state are going to be an important source of revenue to the state. Instances like this are only going to drive film producers away,” Wagh continued. Wagh also hit out at the Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP) for what he said was “crossing its limits”. “How can they stop a film shoot that is taking place within the premises of the ESG. This CCP Mayor is crossing his limits. They are acting as if they are the owners of Panjim. They are only the caretakers of Panjim. They had sent their inspectors to the ESG complex,” Wagh said. The CRWA has claimed that they allowed the shooting of only advertisement films (ad films) and that too only after they were requested by a former commissioner, that they could accept a donation. “The Commissioner then had a meeting with the residents. He was of the opinion that it was not fair to stop all shooting and at least shooting for ad films should be allowed. He was also of the opinion that we could ask the organizers for a contribution towards the association so that we could use the money for the upkeep of the area and that would in turn be helping the ad industry,” Patricia Pinto of the CRWA explained at the press conference on Thursday. “With this in mind, the residents met and it was decided to accept a donation on behalf of the association with an official receipt to be given so that the proceeds could be used to do up the facades of the houses and the surroundings as the ad industry was deriving benefit from the houses of private owners. We find this very fair,” she added but did not explain how their receipt could be official if the association itself was not registered. The CRWA earlier blamed the authorities for just washing their hands off from the happenings once the permission was given. They say that in the past, permissions were given without taking the residents into confidence, roads blocked; residents asked to remove their cars and scooters, maintain silence, and also cooking for the entire crew was done in makeshift kitchens at the site; waste was strewn all around. “Arrogance of the film crew makes the residents martyrs in their own homes,” Patricia said. “If the Goan line producers for films feel that giving a donation to the Association for maintenance of the area which will ultimately benefit them too, amounts to extortion, we would sincerely advise them to find any other location and leave the Campal heritage area out from their film shoots. We have not invited them here, it is they who want to derive benefits from the façades of houses in this heritage area that are maintained by the residents themselves and who receive no help whatsoever from the government,” they said in a statement making it clear that unless they give a donation, the association and its members would not allow them to film. The CCP Mayor Surendra Furtado has, meanwhile hit out at such an attitude of the association. “No association can dictate terms to the CCP. The CCP are the owners of Panjim. The CCP will not bow down to any association. If any association is charging money in the name of upkeep of any particular area, I will stop sending sweepers to that area,” Furtado said while refuting the charge that the CCP was shirking its responsibility. “Go to any film shooting scene and see if there is any garbage the following morning,” Furtado asked. What began as a minor scuffle
[Goanet] Associations can't demand donations, say legal experts
Associations can't demand donations, say legal experts PANAJI: Members of the Campal residents association who on Thursday refuted allegations of extortion levelled against them and the ward councillor by film line producers, and defended collection of donations by their association, have attracted the criticism of legal experts who question the legality of the collection. Former law commission member Cleofato Coutinho said, Demanding donations is impermissible. Coutinho said that while voluntary donations may be acceptable, demanding for donations was definitely not. If somebody is demanding donations for permitting film shoots because a location is sought after, then it amounts to extortion, he said. Nobody should collect money without the authority of law, Coutinho said and added that the government collects taxes with the authority of law. He felt it would not be proper for associations to collect money in this form and cautioned that it could turn to extortion. There is also the view that since the residents' association is not a registered body it is unaccountable and therefore not a legal entity. Advocate and former MP Amrut Kansar said, If it is an unregistered body, how can they claim donations? They have no right to demand donations. If it was a registered society, it was a different matter. The reasons given by the residents' association for demanding money from film shoots, that it was for the upkeep of the area, were also questioned. Kansar asked, Is the function (upkeep of the area) given to them by the municipal council or the government? and stressed that the issue needs to be looked at objectively. He pointed out that giving of a receipt doesn't make the donation legal. Coutinho also felt that the reasons given by the association for collecting money were not valid. Upkeep of the area is the job of the local municipal council, he said. On Thursday, Panaji mayor Surendra Furtado had said that if the association was collecting money for development of the area, then the Corporation of the City of Panaji would stop carrying out any development in the area. I will not send sweepers to the area, Furtado had said. Source: http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-06-29/goa/40271345_1_film-shoots-donations-association

[Goanet] Lets Change The Game - Part-2
(Please read Part-1 before reading this post). Folks, I strongly believe that Goans can achieve their aspirations only when Goa is run by clean people. Goans in Goa need to set aside their petty differences and get together to put up a credible alternative to the establishment. The non resident Goan community can at most, provide logistical support, management support and a decent level of fund-raising. You can't get Dabolim or kill Mopa or get Special Status or whatever else you are seeking - with the current bunch of looters in office. You can still support your pet projects, attend public protests/demonstrations on issues that are dear to you. But my gut feeling says - you can't win, as long as you keep electing the same old scumbags to office for an unlimited number of terms. So let's get down to what we need to do: The new party would primarily be a volunteer driven effort to cut expenses. The volunteers decide on the party's name, provide inputs towards its manifesto, recommend candidates to run for assembly elections and help with other major initiatives such as fund-raising. If you guys want to use Goa Su-Raj party as the platform - that is entirely up to you. Or you may create a totally brand new party. But to avoid controversies, I would prefer the organization names no founding fathers (or mothers) - just pure volunteers or members. To maintain central control, members would hand over specialized tasks to a handful of administrators. All members would be kept abreast on critical communications via bulk SMS. More detailed communication would be available via the party's web site or snail mail (only within Goa) either in Konkanni, Marathi or English. The members choose which language he/she wants to receive communication via snail mail from the party. The web site would most likely be in English. To kick off the new revolution, all we want is about 100 core members in Goa who strongly believe a brand new political party with fresh ideas could help deliver a clean administration and propel Goa on the path to prosperity for all Goans. These 100 core volunteers in Goa would be backed by non resident Goan communities by way of spreading the core message and by organizing fund raisers in their respective regions. All funds raised (whether raised in Goa or abroad) would be remitted directly to the party's bank account in Goa and reported on the party's web site for transparency. Members would have to be assured that every rupee coming in and going out of the bank, would be properly accounted for. Some may argue, what is the need for money? Fund-raising would help pay for rent/utilities for basic office premises for the party. It would be used to generate publicity, flyers, mailings, transportation for foot soldiers/volunteers who would visit every corner of Goa, pay for election fees for 40 candidates with 100% clean police record, support web site, maintain a computer database on registered voters and supporters, expenses with 'Get Out The Vote' efforts - and to manage the party's strategies among other things. So how can you win elections with just 100 core volunteers in Goa? Its a numbers game. I do not have hard figures, but I basing my projections on Goa's total population at about 1.3 million. Strip out about 300,000 kids who would not be eligible to vote. That leaves about 1 million eligible voters. In the first iteration, the first 100 core volunteers, bring in 10 new members each. The total membership goes to 1,100. In the second iteration, these 1000+ members bring in additional 10 new members each. The total goes to 10,000+ . In the third iteration, these 10,000+ members bring in another 10 new members each. The total goes to 100,000+. In the fourth iteration, these 100,000+ members bring in just 5 new members each. The total goes to 500,000+. That level of support is enough to take over most constituencies and reset Goan politics for good. Armed with just 100 smart honest Goans, we can help deliver a modern style fight to the establishment. The concept of having a job for life in Goa's Assembly would be over. There are going to be term limits and recall procedures in place. Everything else will immediately follow. If you have fresh ideas or know of Goans in Goa (or elsewhere) who may be interested in joining this movement, please feel free to reply back either via GoaNet or in private. Thank you for taking the time to read my lengthy posts and for your help. Jim Fernandes. New York.

[Goanet] Brazil's win and Neymar's antics.
Brazil danced past Spain in Samba style, recording a 3-0 win to lift the Confederation Cup. As expected, Neymar was the star though it was Fred who came up with two goals. Featured on the latest Time magazine (Latin America) cover, Neymar was a thorn in Spain's defence. Some of the Spain players, including Gerard Pique who was given a red card for a fault on the Brazilian new wonder boy, will be Neymar teammates this year when he plays for Barcelona this year. The first goal within two mintues shock Spain, the world champs, and further put pressure on them against a strong Brazilian team and a full-capacity Brazilian crowd. If Lutz's hadn't made that great save from Pedro just before the ball could cross the goaline, the Spaniards would have been spurred. Spain was further demoralised when Ramos screwed up the penalty. It was shcoking to see Ramos take the penalty when Spain have Inesta or Xavi who could have done better. Neymar was given the Golden Ball as the Player of the Tournament, and he perhaps deserve it. But is he the next Pele? I think he is still a long way to go to take over Pele's mantle. His true worth will be known in the Spanish league, a tougher one than the Brazilian league. Neymar showed some of his noted antics, particularly his ability to dive. He, however, didn't show magic. No doubt Pele, who first said Neymar was a genius, told him to concentrate on his game rather than on his hair. He also advised Neymar to move to Europe where he can be judged as a player of merit. We have to wait and see how he performs in the company of Messi who Neymar considers as his hero. The Spanish league and the European circuit will be Neymar real testing grounds. Brazil's win should have made Goans happy, as Goans are largely supportive of the team, me included. Still not very much convinced of their play though the team won by three goals. As a couple of former Brazil stars said the team needs to strengthen before the World Cup. Eugene Correia
[Goanet] Goanet Reader: Marissa Coutinho Samake ... First Lady in Waiting (Devika Sequeira, Herald Review)
Marissa Coutinho Samake FIRST LADY IN WAITING... From Goa to Bahrain to the US and now Mali, in West Africa, where her husband Niankoro Yeah Samake is standing for next month's presidential elections. The trajectory of Marissa Coutinho Samake's life has taken her on a journey few could have dreamt of. In the heart of this sub-Saharan country with vast expanses of inhospitable desert overrun by Islamist militants till a few weeks ago, this is perhaps the closest we will get to chasing the dream of a Goan becoming the first lady of a country. With a degree in business management from the US, Marissa has been a huge asset to the Samake campaign. She is uniquely positioned to advise and support me every step of the way. Her ability to remain neutral and see things from a different perspective is something that I find irreplaceable, Samake says of his first lady, as he goes into overdrive to a poll that will be as keenly watched in Goa DEVIKA SEQUEIRA devikaseque...@gmail.com The UN will deploy its third largest peace keeping mission to Mali on Monday, ahead of the July 28 election in the troubled West African nation. Mali has been in turmoil since early 2012, and the ground realities seem to hardly favour a presidential election at this juncture. The bid to bring the African country back to democracy after months of civil conflict that escalated with the threat of northern Mali -- more than half of the country -- falling into the clutches of Islamist militants, is fraught with huge logistical and security challenges. In Kidal, in Mali's vast desert expanses in the north, temperatures had touched a searing 52 degrees Celsius last week, worrying UN officials that sensitive components in their mobile communications systems would melt, news agencies reported. The scorching heat in Kidal is the least of the challenges. Less than two weeks ago, Mali's chief negotiator Tiebile Drame camping out in neighbouring Burkina Faso managed to hammer out a deal with the Tuareg rebels to bring about a ceasefire that will allow Malian troops to return to Kidal. This paves the way for the nation-wide poll that the international community sees as crucial to keeping stability in the region. Taking advantage of the power vacuum in the capital Bamako after the March 2012 military coup in Mali, the nomadic Tuaregs, grouped under the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) had swept across the Saharan desert to create an independent region in north Mali in April last year. They still control the cities of Gao, Auguelhok and Kidal. Confronted with the real threat that the Tuareg rebellion was being hijacked by Al-Qaeda, France, with the help of Chadian forces, launched a military intervention in Mali in January this year at the request of the Malian president, to push back Islamist fighters. Many of them are said to have fallen back into southern Libya. One of Africa's most stable democracies till last year's coup, given its strategic location -- the largely desert country shares borders with Algeria in the north, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Guinea in the south, Senegal and Mauritania in the west, Niger in the east—Mali's return to peace is seen as imperative to stability in the region. A former colony Few people in Goa would have heard of Mali, 9200 km away on another continent. The two couldn't have been more dissimilar. Remote, landlocked, two-thirds of it covered by swathes of desert, Mali, one of the poorest countries in the world, is twice the size of France but so sparsely peopled, that it has a smaller population (just 15 million) than Mumbai. But Mali too was a former outpost of a European country. It gained independence from France a year before the Portuguese departure from Goa in 1961. In this sweltering desert, by a curious twist of fate, the Malian presidential election is possibly the closest we will ever get to chasing the dream of a Goan first lady of a nation. Marissa Coutinho and Niankoro Yeah Samake met at Bringham Young University, Utah, USA where he was pursuing a masters in public policy and she, studying for a business management degree. They married some eight years ago and have two children, Keanen,7, and Carmen,5. What sets Samake apart from the other nominees for the Malian presidency race, is his faith. In a country that is 95 per cent Muslim, the Samakes are the only Mormons. One would imagine that this alone would make the running that much harder. But in 2009 when Yeah Samake ran for mayor of Ouelessebougou, his hometown, he sailed in with a big vote. Mali is a very open country and freedom of religion is one thing that Malians espouse. Yeah was voted mayor with 86 per

[Goanet] Two butchers arrested for illegally transporting beef
-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM: Bicholim Police arrested two butchers from Mapusa on charges of illegally transporting beef worth Rs 1 lakh from Karnataka to Goa. According to reports, the Animal Rescue Squad (ARS) Bicholim along with two other organisations foiled an attempt of the two accused of illegally transporting beef from Karnataka to Goa. ARS Chief Amrut Singh along with the members of Govansha Raksha Abhiyan and Bharat Swabhiman carried out the operation. The ARS through investigation had learnt that there was illegal transportation of beef into the State by using fake papers from an illegal slaughter house at Yamakanmoradi-Karnataka. “After a tip-off, we waited near the Keri outpost at 2 am on Sunday and at 4 am we spotted a rickshaw (GA-03-K-1607) entering the State. When we intercepted the vehicle, the two persons showed us the papers which we had already verified as fake,” informed Amrut Singh. The ARS then contacted Bicholim and Valpoi Police and complained that beef was being illegally transported into the State. Police rushed to the site and arrested Abdul Gani Bepari and driver, Dada Pir Mulla, from Mapusa. Dr Narendra Naik, who checked the meat, later certified that it not fit for human consumption and the owners did not follow proper norms of transporting the beef, which weighed about 1 tonne costing Rs 1 lakh. Bicholim PI Neenad Devulkar is investigating the case. Besides Amrut Singh, the raiding team consisted of Gajanand Bordekar, Kamlakant Tari, Bhagwan Harmalkar, Sandeep Sutar, Digamber Raut, Vishnu Naik, Sandesh Kalangutkar, Anil Parshekar and Ladu Parab.

To my comment: However, in his latest message, Santosh is actually giving two figures - 2000 killed and 1200 killed. I do grant that my earlier figure of 1100 could well be wrong. But then given the final quote in his message, surely I am nearer the correct figure than Santosh is. Santosh Helekar responds: Just a small correction. The two figures I gave are 2000 killed and more than 1200, not just 1200. In terms of accuracy, I believe that 2000 is indeed more than 1200. Let us not quibble about figures, but concentrate on the main thrust of my message, which is to look at to whom compensation has been given. As I had said, the government figures have been on the basis of how many families received the monetary compensation. If we are to accept Santoshs figure, then surely it means that the families of around 800 victims have not received the compensation. I hope Santosh agrees to this contention. If he does, then should we not be asking what the human rights organizations are doing about it? U. G. Barad.

[MODERATOR'S NOTE: Pls avoid cc'ing to other addresses when posting to Goanet.] Respected sir, Kindly publish following news item and obligeBhakti GCL Goodwill Ambassador and Woman Grandmaster Bhakti Kulkarni went down fighting to Former World Woman Champion Hou Yifan (2595) of China in the second round of Asian Indoor Games being held at Incheon,South Korea. Due to the suspension of Indian Olympic Association, the Indian Teams of Chess,Kabaddi and Swimming are playing as Independant Olympic Athletes. Bhakti is on 2 points at the end of third round. Bhakti started her campaign with a smooth win over WCM Emi Hasegawa of Japan in the first round. The Goan used sharp Benko Gambit to defeat the Woman Candidate Master from Japan. Then Bhakti was thrilled when she heard that she was to play against Hou Yifan. It is dream come true for me,gushed Bhakti. Hou regularly defeated Humpy-the only Indian woman she had played so far. Bhakti prepared well and almost pulled off a draw against the super GM. It was Nimzo Indian Defence in which Bhakti had White pieces. I could feel the pressure when I was playing Hou Yifan. But I fought well to maintain it equal only to lose a pawn in time trouble, remembered Bhakti. Thereafter Hou won the game on 48th move. Bhakti defeated International Woman Master Alzarooni of UAE to reach 2 points at the end of third round. -- *Commonwealth Junior Girls Chess Champion,* *Goodwill Ambassador for GCL, * *International Woman Grand Master,* *Goa,India.*
