[Goanet] ACHHE DIN FOR GOA SANS MANOHAR PARRIKAR

2014-11-09 Thread Aires Rodrigues
As was expected the new Chief Minister of Goa is also from the RSS. It is
no surprise that the BJP has humiliated Deputy Chief Minister Francis
D’Souza which should act as an eye opener to the other altar boys. Francis
D’Souza has however taken this in the right stride because politics today
has unfortunately been reduced to a shabby game of compromises. The right
decision however was to lay aside Rajendra Arlekar in view of the
corruption charges pending against him in the disproportionate assets case.
The BJP could have also seized the opportunity to axe the known corrupt
Ministers in the cabinet who were however sadly sworn in again proving that
the real mantra is infact Zero action against Corruption.

Running the State is the prerogative of the Chief Minister and the cabinet.
Manohar Parrikar should now not even attempt to be interfering in the
functioning of the Goa Government. His statement that he would be visiting
Goa twice a week is ridiculous. Goa has suffered enough under his two and a
half year utter misrule and he should not further burden the exchequer by
being a frequent flyer and attempt to high-handedly impose his writ on Goa.
Instead of trying to further ruin Goa by remote control, Manohar Parrikar
should be doing justice to his new assignment as Defence Minister of India
in keeping a watchful eye on the Pakistan and China borders.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had promised Goans that he would remove
those Casinos from the River Mandovi before he demits office in 2017. Now
that Parrikar has swiftly fled are Goans stuck with that eyesore polluting
our river?

By all his U turns Manohar Parrikar as Chief Minister over the last two and
a half years has transformed Goa into a gambling, prostitution and
narcotics hub. His expertise in corruption would be his vital asset in the
ensuing high stake Defence deals in store. In his new avatar what role he
carves out for his inseparable comrade- in- arms the flamboyant Atmaram
Nadkarni we shall soon know. Atmaram Nadkarni is already in Delhi to attend
Manohar Parrikar’s swearing in ceremony.

The sycophants around Manohar Parrikar should realize that Politics and
Good governance is not about individuals but of having the right functional
systems in place. With Manohar Parrikar having vanquished from Goa it
could only be Achhe Din for this State which has suffered immensely under
an eccentric and erratic Chief Minister with egos ever so puffed.

Nelson Mandela had said “A good head and a good heart are always a
formidable combination”. Manohar Parrikar clearly lacked them both. Goa was
taken for a jolly good ride by this dictatorial, autocratic and ruthless
double faced so called IITian.

[Goanet] Fighting for Goa's Cosmopolitanism: Gurudas Kunde + Alvaro Pereira at Reis Mago

2014-11-09 Thread Bernado Colaco

Two foolish people whose actions have now led to the death of Goa in front of
their eyes.

BC

A few days ago, the freedom fighter Gurudas Kunde returned to Reis
Magos after more than 55 years. The spectacularly situated historical
monument has been sensitively restored by architect Gerard da Cunha,
with the support of Intach and the UK-based Helen Hamlyn Trust. It is
now a must-see tourist attraction, but Kunde knew it as a prison,
where he spent four years incarcerated along with other Goans of every
background who joined him in resisting the Portuguese regime.

Kunde was a prisoner of conscience. His only crime was shouting 'Jai
Hind' in the streets of Margao, then refusing to apologize no matter
what the consequences. For this, he lost years of his life and
suffered the further indignity of being disinherited by his
pro-Portuguese father. They never reconciled, and he never received a
share of the family property.

The sprightly septuagenarian was accompanied in his return to Reis
Magos by his inseparable friend of more than 50 years, the freedom
fighter Alvaro Pereira. Nearly 90, Pereira moves more slowly than he
used to, but with the support of a cane he too delighted in a full
tour of the restored fortress, marvelling at stunning vantages over
the River Mandovi. Together they paused for a long look across to Fort
Aguada, where Pereira spent five years incarcerated for distributing
anti-colonial pamphlets, and?despite being singled out for sadistic
beatings by the notorious Agente Monteiro?similarly refusing to
recant.

[Goanet] Fwd: ARMS LICENCE RENEWAL AND DEPOSITION IN THE POLICE STATION.

2014-11-09 Thread Stephen Dias
-- Forwarded message --
From: Stephen Dias
Date: 9 November 2014 08:16
Subject: ARMS LICENCE RENEWAL AND DEPOSITION IN THE POLICE STATION.

Dear Collector of GoaMrs Nila Mohanan
Madam,
Very few arms licence holders read orders or instructions in local dailies.
Luckily the Times of India dt 7th Nov. 2014 published the news which is
enclosed herewith, from the District Collector of Goa that they have to
resubmit the details in a prescribed proforma available in the collector's
office as per the direction from Union Home Ministry, which is very good
for the security reasons and also tracking the legal arms/ weapons
available in Goa. Why this kind of advertisement was not published in other
leading newspapers in Goa? In fact the Collectorate of Goa should have
sent letters to arms licence holders by Reg /AD post as they have all the
addresses with them, so that the office could have got the proof,
especially because this particular advertisement says that those who do
not submit the prescribed form, their licence will be null and void. This
is not the correct procedure as some Goans may not read newspapers. Many
times such things are taking place during elections whether Municipality
or Assembly/Parliament the message is reached via the newspapers only. Although
many licence holders deposit their guns in their respective police station,
I have noticed and also informed earlier Collectors in writing that these
guns are not properly preserved in the rooms of designated Police
inspector. This Police headquarters room is so shabby, not ventilated and
in bad condition. I have requested the earlier Collectors to make
available a good depositing room for the arms/guns and that the servicing
of guns may be done in case the elections goes beyond 3 months duration as
these guns are of sentimental value and imported ones where licence holders
do not get any spares parts in India. Earlier during Portuguese regime all
these servicing and maintenance work was being done at the headquarters of
Police Station and even after few years of liberation this habit was
continued. Will the present District Collector Mrs Nila Mohanan instruct
PI's, PWD or Home Dept staff to get it done? The worst scenario that the
Arms Licence holders have their grievances is about the licence fees being
increased substantially high, which the licence holders used to pay for 3
-year renewal after the year 2001 was Rs. 560/- and increased on 2004
onwards for Rs.1060/ and further increased Rs.2000/- and in future it may
still further increase. When these guns are mostly of sentimental value and
some licenses are given for self protection and agricultural crops etc the
fees are found quite high, and not satisfactorily. It is requested that
the Govt of Goa and present Chief Minister Mr Laximikant Parsenkar who
have just taken reins may give some consolation to Arms holders and
decrease the renewal fees for earlier tariff fee for Rs.560/- . Mostly
people are senior citizens in Goa and having imported arms/guns. They will
be very much grateful and appreciate this gesture if approved by this
present Chief Minister of Goa. I think this is going to be his first task.

I lived for a long time in Goa, though I am a Canadian. From my reading, I
associate the Lion sculpture (which I have seen oftentimes on gateposts and
house ornamentation in Goa Villages) with the *Kadamba Dynasty*. You
might try searching with such key words as *'Chandor' & 'Kadamba'. *I
rather think that it does *not *have to do with 'Goa Returned Africanders'.
The one to consult would most likely be Dr. Teotonio De Souza.

2014-11-09 Thread Joseph

Hi all,

I have also seen houses in Pernem built by Hindus that have lions at
the gates. Those that I noticed were constructed
in the era of Portuguese rule and must have been built by Landlords
and/or thoise occupying a high position in society.

lions on their gates. In some villages, house after house (in parts of the
village) were built by "Africanders". If what you believe is true, why do
some have lions and others not?

In Bardez, a lot of the 20th century affluence, I'd think, came from
migration. Specially to places like Africa. This was accelerated perhaps by
the existence of some of the early English schools in this region (Fr Lyons
at Arpora, Mater Dei at Saligao, Sacred Heart at Parra, etc); other parts
of Goa got English schools much later.

A better test would be to see if the homes with 'lions at the gates' in
Salcete (where affluence and grand homes came from sources other than
overseas migration earlier on, it would seem) belong to Africanders. That
might give you an idea of how right or conjectural (let's avoid binaries,
as VJP says!) you are.

I'm open to be corrected on the arguments above; but don't dismiss it with
a label please. FN

Dinesh Heda who started as walker in 2010 has yesterday completed the
Bangalore Ultra 75 kms Trail which starts at 5.00 a.m. Dinesh Heda was the 1
st runner up in the Bangalore Ultra 75 kms.

Recognised as India's most entertaining marathon, the GRM has attracted
over 5000 participants in its last edition which has made the Goa River
Marathon the single largest running event in Goa. With over 1800
entries for the 21.1Km half marathon and the 10 km competitive run last
year, 1500 werenational and international participants. The 5 km charity
fun walk-run saw 2500 participants from all parts of Goa.Season5 of the Goa
River Marathon which is just around the corner is expected to
see much higher participation strength of runners completing the 10Km and
21.1Km half marathon.

The Group which is popularly known as the "*SUSSEGADO RUNNERS*", has been
teaming up thrice a week to conduct practice running sessions
at Mapusa, Panaji, Madgaon and Vasco. This *60-Day preparation* will
continue until the final race day and is aimed at helping individuals shape
up for the event.

While enquiries and registrations for the 10Km and 21.1Km had begun almost
2 months earlier, this year’s event attractions will include an
*Inter-Panchayat Run* – an initiative to make running reach the rural and
deeper areas of Goa. The GRM 5km Charity walk / run has been focused on
encouraging walking and running as a healthy sport. By educating,
highlighting and motivating people to develop a healthy lifestyle through
running, we can help reduce the health risks that affect so many people
today. With active participation from the Charities and support groups, the
event highlights at least one social cause every year. Portions of the
proceeds are kept aside for supporting such causes.

On *14thDecember 2014 at Vasco, Baina Beach t*he event includes live

It is a stoned lion, FN.

Hey, if anyone wants to have a stoned lion at the entrance to their abode, so
be it.

My experience also recollects that the entrance to the Via Dolorosa is the
Stone Lion's Gate, so the stoned lions in Goa may have some religious

One last comment, every Africander knows that there are no lions in the jungles

Re: [Goanet] ACHHE DIN FOR GOA SANS MANOHAR PARRIKAR

2014-11-09 Thread Sam Furtado
Dear Mr. Aires Rodrigues,

Sir,

Greetings to you and pleasure reading your variable mails that I receive on
regular basis via Goa-net.

Your email on political conundrum miring the Goan politics scenario made an
interesting and avid reading.

You have aptly put across and absolutely right as per se the so called mess
the ex-CM Mr. Manohar Parrikar the IITian or could we call ‘The technocrat’
applied right technique with suitable angle to fulfill self desire to the
brim and not to the brink. Now that he has been elevated to the High
Office with a commanding post that of a Defense Minister would all the more
reap a large moolah, I am sure he must be quietly laughing all the way for
having pulled wool over many a sheep’s heads while he was in Goa cabinet
Ministry.

Now that Mr. Manohar Parrikar has vanished or vanquished his post to Mr.
Ramakant Parsekar the incumbent present CM to lead the flock; little is
known of his proven metal or his caliber and thus leaving out in cold Mr.
Francis D’ Souza, the rightful second in command for the Post of Chief
Minister after Mr. Manohar Parrikar; though many may have doubted his
credibility of running the show but never judge a book by its cover. One
has to read it to know what lies in it.

Perhaps, if Mr. Francis D’ Souza had been given a chance, he may have shown
his caliber, honesty, sincerity and to do true justice to the aspirations
of people of Goa, in which event even God would have stand by him, if he
undertook to discharged his duties morally and principally in the right
direction; without fear or favour but serve the good cause and aspirations
of the people of Goa in Toto with due justice and transparency but now that
all seems vanished into the Blue and a long distant dream. But who knows
what lies in still waters? Everything at the moment seems a conjecture and
is a reality a distant dream?

Once again keep up the spirit of joy de vivre; calling a spade a spade.

misjudged the euphoria generated by disgruntled elements, He seemed to be
buoyed by false assurances, which he did not measure with precision. He
opened his mouth so wide stating either the C.M post or his resignation
from council of ministers He has to eat the crow and swallow his pride
that and questioned his own integrity and self respect. He has not yet
realised that his inclusion is pure and simple appeasement to the Catholic
community devoid of any perceivable merit, except he tried to be on the
side of BJP by his gaffe that all are Hindus and he had to face the flak,
He is not the natural substitute or choice by his position, since when C.M
was away he had handed over the Charge to Mr Davlikar and later to some one
else Did he ever protest at this humiliation then, but meekly surrendered
to the inevitable fact, in spite of being Deputy C.M. there was no trust in
him even for a short time
It is a disgrace that he now floats party directive to stick like limpet to
position of power and prominence, which he derives by his present position
The non swearing of Avertano at first instance indicates a message, who may

Left Goa leaving the mission* unaccomplished

Manohar Parrikar whom people voted to power to lead & serve Goa for 5 years,
resigned as Goa's Chief Minister on 8th Nov.2014 after 2.5 years and sworn in
as Union Cabinet Minister next day i.e.9th Nov. 2014.
He says Country is bigger than State
I say State is also part of Country so serving State is also serving the Nation.

Quote: My earlier FB Post

How could you?
I can’t believe you are going.
Most people when voted BJP, they also voted you
How can you leave them in lurch?
Upto 70% of youth who voted for BJP, actually voted you
Of the minority votes, about 80% did not vote for BJP but you.
Yes you, for they wanted a change, they trusted you.
How can you leave when Goa really needed you?
Earlier you said ‘ you got me elected for 5 years’
‘I am going nowhere, here I belong’
Were you not aware of the fact that Nation is bigger than State then?
Listen to your conscious,

Thanks for the updates.

I really envy Modi who has inducted mostly intellectual personalities
in his cabinet expansion. Foreign country heads will get to think
about India with Modi. If everything goes well probably India is going
to be a super power. Hopefully all of them work with enthusiasm and
interest. Most important is that Modi must get rid of corruption in
all the States of India. He should remove all those who indulge
malpractices including Chief Ministers from BJP Govt itself which I am
sure he will do it. As he said this is not your father Govt . It is
true and he should maintain his word.
Modi is showing a good begriming.

[Goanet] GOA NOW BESTOWED WITH A PUPPET CHIEF MINISTER

2014-11-09 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Goa has a new Chief Minister but no governance. In an awfully bad start
the new Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has bald-facedly proclaimed that
the portfolios of his Ministers will be allotted only later this week in
consultation with Manohar Parrikar.

As allotment of portfolios should be the sole prerogative of the Chief
Minister it is now a very clear indication that Laxmikant Parsekar will be
swinging as a puppet on the string in being a dummy Chief Minister. This is
Political bankruptcy to the hilt. Acute signs and symptoms that by being a
lame duck Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar will only add to the mountain
of that mess that Manohar Parrikar has left behind.

Ironically Manohar Parrikar who over the last two and a half years kept Goans
entertained with his empty talk of Special Status for Goa will today file
his nomination to be elected as a Member of Parliament to the Rajya Sabha
from Uttar Pradesh.

On the other hand the North Goa MP Shripad Naik who has over the years been
craftily sidelined and pushed to the corner by his bête noire Manohar
Parrikar has now been further isolated in being divested of his current
prized portfolio of Tourism & Culture and sedated by being relegated as
Minister for Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and
Homoeopathy (AYUSH). A well orchestrated devious political surgery by
Manohar Parrikar.
