[Goanet] CAN CONGRESS DELIVER?

I thought we should also thank people of India for religiously keeping the

Not that the secular does everything right...but some peace atleastfor

CAN CONGRESS DELIVER? Wed May 20 19:45:50 PDT 2009

714 million voters of the world’s largest democracy have elected
543representatives to the 15th Lok Sabha in a mammoth election which
isestimated to have cost a staggering Rs10, 000 crore plus. In a democracy
thevoice of the people is supreme and the mandate has to be respected.

The political rut and chaos in our country can be rooted out by having a twoor
three party system. The people of India may have not voted for the muchrequired
change but it is however good that the people of India have given aclear
mandate to one party which is very important for our nation’sstability and all
round development.

Laloo and Paswan amongst some other political opportunists have been
rightlyderailed. It would have been good to see Mulayam and Mayawati also
shelvedaway. Parties deeply rooted in the criminalization of politics should
begiven no space to manoeuvre. The Left parties have also been rightly shownthe
door. The negative aspect of the election results is the impetus givento
dynastic rule which along with political sycophancy should never findplace in
any democracy.

Last time the Congress led UPA claimed that the fractured mandate preventedthem
from making India shine. This time around they have the numbersrequired to push
the necessary reforms. The much needed electoral reformsshould be one of Dr.
Manmohan Singh’s priorities.Aires RodriguesRibandar

PANAJI: The Goa government has spent nearly Rs 1.5 crore on food and almost Rs
13 lakhs refurnishing the official residences of three senior

ministers and the speaker, according to written replies given by the government
to questions raised in the state assembly.

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat threw one party at Eid and another at Christmas.
The combined bill came to nearly Rs 11 lakhs, according to one of the replies
to a set of questions posed by two legislators - Dayanand Narvekar of the
ruling Congress and Vasudev Gaonkar of the Bharatiya Janata Party - during the
recent budget session of the assembly.

Kamat also hosted a dinner for historian Romila Thapar and journalist P.
Sainath when they were here for a lecture series. The bill for the dinner at a
five-star resort came to Rs 244,000, according to a reply in the assembly.

A group of experts was here in September for a seminar on Strategies for
Improving Livelihood Security for Rural Poor. Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane
treated the delegates to a dinner. The money spent was Rs 310,000, says another
reply, adding that the guests also went on an evening cruise on the Mandovi
river at the cost of the exchequer.

All the food bills, along with several others which totalled nearly Rs 15
million, were footed by the Arts and Culture Department, which is under the
chief minister.

Curtains in the official residence of Home Minister Ravi Naik here cost Rs
123,000 and those in Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao's home
Rs 58,036. Two TV sets given to Alemao cost over Rs 100,000.

Assembly Speaker Pratapsing Rane's liquor cabinet is richer. He bought a wine
opener for Rs 875, wine glasses for Rs 800, beer glasses for Rs 200, a set of
crystal glasses for Rs 1,000 and cocktail glasses for Rs 1,200, all paid for by
the exchequer, says a reply. Add to that a set of bathroom glasses costing Rs
700 each.

All the bills for home furnishings and cutlery were footed by the PWD, along
with a host of others, taking the total to almost Rs 1.3 million.

The Goa treasury has an outstanding debt of Rs 50 billion.

Asked if there was a standard procedure or a cap on such expenses, officials in
the protocol department of the state government chose not to answer.

[Goanet] Faulty meter - 1.31crore down the drain

2009-03-29 Thread mario rodrigues

GOA NEWS : 29 Mar 2009, 0431 hrs IST, TNN

PANAJI: Delay in replacing a faulty meter at the Dabolim airport has cost the
state exchequer Rs 1.31 crore, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India
has pointed out. The CAG observed that the energy meter developed a fault in
December 2003,
and was replaced only in October 2006. In the intervening period, the consumer
was billed for units lower than its actual consumption. And as back billing is
restricted to a six-month period, the scope for recovering this revenue is
remote. It pulled up the department for delaying repairs with “such a big
consumer”.

MY OWN ANALYSIS TO ABOVE NEWS:-

However susegad GOANS are, Goans would never have done such grave mistakes or
delays or taken it so susegad from 2003 to 2006. I chose to think this way to
console my ownself.

This type of DELIBERATE delays are done by only those GOANS (a) who obtained a
ration card in 2003 on arrival at railway station in goa (b) who never had
bikes to reach quickly (c) who were thinking repairs has to be done with sewing
machines.

Now with the safe receipt of bikes and sewing machines, probably the WORK all
over Goa will be done on time and properly. Butbut...but... the PAYMENT for
letting work to be done by these (a,b,c type of Goans), will still have to be
paid by GOANS only, and very dearly.

Why ?

Because our mentality is to work with the best of SUITS and leave the pockets
empty. And there are those (a,b,c-Goans) who come as electrician,
telephoneman, mason, carpenter, coconut plucker, fisherman, bhellpuriman,
fruitseller and not even tucked the shirt inside the pant, but check out their
pant pockets-they have enough in it and has even taken a peice of Goa's
mother-land.

Remember whatever easy tips we get , will go easily to these outsiders, not
because they know, but because we did not learn these simple things. And we did
not even know how much our ministers have already put us in debts. 4500 crores
is what I heard latest.

In all the happennings the result is that:

- outsiders get what they want from the ministers

- ministers give freely to the outsiders

From where?

Yes, exactly from Goans pockets ( as rightly indicated above-state exchequer)

So is it right to sit at home and not to vote?

OR

is it right to elect the same manipulators?

OR

will be wake up ,check the candidate and vote the right one?

[Goanet] Goa Portugese rule

ANIL: In any self-respecting democracy, the Attorney-General of such a
government would have resigned.
MARIO : In konkani i heard several times ' TENIN RESPETH BHAZUN KHALLA' , They
have
fried the respect and eaten.

ANIL : And what about the Timblos? Are there no men and women of honour left
in
these mine-owning dynasties?
MARIO : Yes, they have their own team of people who are honouring each other.
Not
for doing what is morally right, but for doing everything 'morally wrong'

ANIL: Is it so difficult for them to accept the verdict of the highest
court in
the land?
MARIO : There is nothing higher than their EGO, which is ruling them and
overrulling every verdict of sup.court.

ANIL : The state's debt burden is testimony to that, having risen to Rs 4500
crores
or more.
MAR IO : Just like SATYAMS ultimately could not bear it any more and
exposed.it
is time Goans come together and expose this burden, sooner the better.

ANIL : I sincerely hope that when this ordinance comes up for discussion in the
State Assembly, the MLAs will, if they have the interests of Goa at heart,
reject
it.
MARIO : Goans saw what interests the MLA's have for goa when the ordiance was
passed
in Assembly. I am not sure why Goans are not able to see such things which are
happenning for so long OR is it that Goans also have interests like their MLA's
, to
sell(already sold) GOA,their mother-land

ANIL : Otherwise, the politicians and the mining lobby will have to learn the
hard
way that when decent law-abiding citizens get angry, we have the courage of our
convictions to transform public opinion from tolerance shown towards mining to
complete rejection.
MARIO : It has to begin someday, REVOLUTION , once and for all. NOW, TODAY,
tomorrow may be late.

ANIL : Mere statements in newspapers proclaiming your love for Goa and its
environment will not do. We need to see action. Demolition as ordered by the
Supreme
Court and withdrawal of the case against Seby would be a good start.
MARIO : LET IT BE DONE, THEY ALREADY LIVED 18 YEARS MORE AND MADE PROBABLY

THE WHOLE PROBLEM IS BECAUSE OF THE SLOW JUDICIARY SYSTEM. THIS IS THE ONE AND

[Goanet] STATE GOVT EXPOSED(ALLOTMENT OF LAND TO SEZ'S) - WELL DONE 'CAG', LET THE CULPRITS BE JAILED ASAP. GIVE BACK GOAS LAND TO GOANS!!!

2009-03-26 Thread mario rodrigues

STATE GOVT EXPOSED(ALLOTMENT OF LAND TO SEZ'S) -
WELL DONE 'CAG', LET THE CULPRITS BE JAILED ASAP.
GIVE BACK GOA WHAT RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO GOANS!!!
DRIVE AWAY THE CORRUPT INDUSTRIES

PANJIM, MARCH 25
Blatant irregularities of the State government in the allotment of
land
to seven special economic zones (SEZs) in three industrial estates have been
thoroughly exposed by the findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General
of
India (CAG).
The CAG report tabled in the Goa assembly on Tuesday has listed out
numerous irregularities indulged in by Goa Industrial Development Corporation
(GIDC)
in allotting 38,40,886 square metres of land to seven SEZs - in its five
industrial estates.
Allotment made for SEZs not only lacked transparency but GIDC
sacrificed land acquired for small and medium scale industries under the
Industrial
Growth Center (IGC) Scheme for the advantage of SEZ companies, the report
revealed.
Allotment to SEZs was made without publicizing, that too
before
the State government formulated its SEZ policy, nbsp ; says the CAG.
Verna industrial estate (VIE) was established under the IGC
scheme of
government of India for which financial assistance of Rs 10 crore was
received.
But shockingly, area to the extend of 24.05 lakh square metres allotted for
five
companies for SEZs in Verna formed part of the total area of 65.81 lakh
square
metres acquired for IGC.
UNDUE CONCESSION: Making a special concession for SEZ allottees,
the
GIDC also removed a clause from the lease deed that enables revision of the
annual lease rent (ALR) as and when premium rates are revised . This was an
undue concession to SEZ allottees remarked the CAG report.
LOWER LAND RATES: Sins committed by GIDC do not end here.
Bending
over backwards to satisfy the SEZ promoters, the GIDC allotted land at a
lower
rate.
Revision of premium rate at Verna phase IV, effected only
after
major chunk was allotted at lower rate , tentatively fixed, resulted in a
loss
of Rs 36.89 crores.
GIDC had in March 2004 acquired 35.88 lakh square metres of land in
Verna and Loutolim villages for expansion of phase IV of Verna industrial
estate.
It commenced allotment in September 2005 in the areas even before
the
layout plan was prepared and sub-divisions completed at tentatively fixed
(September
2005) premium rate of Rs 600 per square metre .The rate was subsequently
revised in
August 2006 to Rs 750 per square metre but allotted 24.6 lakh at Rs 600 per
square
metre and only 15,365 square metres for Rs 750, CAG said.
Based on the board's decision, GIDC allotted land admeasuring 16.73
lakh
square metres to four companies at premium rate of Rs 600 - namely K Raheja
Corp,
Paradigm Logistics, Inox Mercantile and Planetview, for setting up SEZ s.
EXTRA ALLOTTMENT: The GIDC is also guilty of excess allotment
of
land to the four SEZ companies that were allotted land in phase IV of VIE.
Inclusion of area to the extent of 5.28 lakh square metres
initially
in the deeds over and above the allotted area was irregular. The
unauthorized inclusion of additional land was an undue favour to the
companies
which helped them to obtain SEZ approval , the CAG noted.
KERI: Based on requests (March 2006), GIDC allotted 12.32 lakh
square
metres in March/April 2006 in Keri, to Meditab Specialities - a subsidiary of
Ciplas
at premium rate of Rs 80 per square metre while 2.04 lakh square metres land
was
allotted in Sancoale at a lease premium of Rs 270 per square metre.
Meditab was allotted land at a time when GIDC was in the process of
implementing a pharma park by itself on land available at Keri and a consultant
had
already been appointed for the purpose.
NO PERSPECTIVE PLAN: GIDC had been pursuing industrial development
on an
adhoc basis with no perspective plan.
The auditors found that GIDC had no system to assess the
requirement in
accordance with any specific project of its own or local demand of industries.
It deviated from its established role of acquiring and allotting
land
directly to the entrepreneur by allotting land to developers for further
allotments
by them.
GIDC, CAG found, allotted land before completing basic development
activities, paving the way for faxing arbitrary rate of lease premium.
It also revealed that allotments were made without transparent
selection procedures.

Church in Kerala to fight election

NDTV Correspondent

Unhappy with both UDF and LDF in the state, the Church in Kerala has decided to
contest this year's Lok Sabha election.

The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church has decided to field Independent
candidates in four constituencies for the elections.

This is the first time that the Church, which has pockets of influence in some
of the constituencies, would be fielding its candidates.

The decision was taken as the church felt the successive LDF and UDF
governments failed to consider the problems of the church so far.

Re: [Goanet] Days of the Goan Bullock Cart

There are tons and tons of fond memory days of Goa from 1980's and before,

One of them rightly brought to us by Tony Fernandes in DAYS OF THE GOAN
BULLOCK CART

Thank you Tony...

I enjoyed and prefer the slow, susegad Goans lifestyle.it was
unique and still remains unique if we realise the importance and LIVE LIFE
FULLY attitude...

What use is a FASTCAR...which takes ones life ANYTIME and we regret we
never lived it as it should be.

What use is a MOTORBYKEwhich we kickstartand soon find we
do not have legs to kickstart anymore.

what use is a MERCEDES/CRV's/COROLLAs(tinted glass)...which keeps our face
heart from anyone to see..and even if it can be seen when we step out or
in.. our neighbours will know our face heart is 'tainted'

what use is a TRUCK.which carries away 'MINE' wealth of Goa.From Goa to
Japan,China etc..

Floriano's advice to his son...
Thu Mar 19 04:55:52 PDT 2009

We need a little bit of theatre...I love the idea of everyone wearing black in
mourning and attending themeeting. That's what spurs this idea.I suggest you
guys also go to the meeting with a very large coffin, coveredwith flowers and
wreaths, and accompanied by priests from variousdenominations. The meeting can
be followed by a ceremony burying Goa, who isin the coffin. We must make our
corrupt lot the butt of our jokes. This maybe a good way. It may also get us on
the news at 9 and 10...Best of luck with the meeting to all attending!

[Goanet] DNA: World: Dubai bars dancing, kissing

2009-03-17 Thread mario rodrigues

Dear Seby:

YES, EVERYTHING IS AVAILABLE for EVERYONE.in Dubai

(Goan delicacies, drinks, football, music, dance et all.)

simple guideline is

DO WHAT YOU WANT TO YOU IN THE DESIGNATED PLACE(s)

DO NOT DO 'PRIVATE' ACTS IN 'PUBLIC

And if simple guidlines are NOT followed, then I agree with Dubai Government
100% to impose necessary fines/punishments.

The problem is with those people who are habitual MISUSERS/DISOBEYERS of Rules
 Regulations .

Why are these newspapers harping only on demolition? Why don?t they investigate
how ?Cidade de Goa? managed to obtain all necessary permission for construction
of the illegal portion? Who were the Authorities involved? Were these
authorities incompetent that they did not know it was illegal or was there
money involved? For which, ?Cidade de Goa? can also be accused of having bribed
officials and obtained the requisite permissions for the illegal construction
through corrupt means. Which means the government officials connived? And as
habits die hard, today, the C.M. and the Governor also have connived. As some
newspapers put it, the demolition would cause a loss of some 12 crores; these
crores could be utilised for next elections and still have the illegal
structure intact. Wishful thinking!

[Goanet] Our Politicians ate eating Sundae or simple Ice-Cream?

2009-03-16 Thread mario rodrigues

IF EVERY CHILD IS GROWN WITH SUCH ATTITUDES WILL THERE EVER BE A
ECONOMIC/FINANCIAL/EMOTIONAL CRISIS IN THIS WORLD?

A STORY / LESSON

Sometime ago, when the ice-cream were not so expensive, a ten-year old boy
went to an ice cream parlour. While sitting at the table, he asked the
waitress, “how much does a Sundae cost?’ “50 cents”, she replied. The book took
out his money from the pocket and began counting it. “Well, how much does a
simple ice-cream cost?” There were other people waiting to be served , so the
waiter begain to get a little impatient. “35 cents!”she replied abruptly. The
boy counted his money again and said: “Please get me a simple ice-cream!” The
waitress served him the ice-cream and his bill. The boy ate the ice-cream ,
paid his bill at the cash counter and left. When the waitress went to clean the
table she began to cry…for there, in the corner of the plate, were 15 cents…her
tip. The boy took the simple ice-cream instead of a Sundae so he could leave a
tip for her.

Dear Aires,

My association with Public Interest Litigations (PILs) goes back to over
three decades..

Over the years I have never hesitated to take on the rich and
mighty.

On 7th March 1986, I got the then Councillor of Panaji Municipal Council
now my colleague at Bar, Adv. Amol Naik disqualified .

In Dec 1986, during the Konkani language agitation...

In the year 2000, my name figured in the Goa Government?s list of Goondas

along with now Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao and current Education
Minister Babush Monseratte. The authorities however promptly deleted my
name from the list stating that the name crept in by error.

I am also pursuing the case against Education Minister Mr. Babush Monseratte
for having lied on oath that he had passed SSC though having completed only
 7th Std.

Recently the Bombay High Court of Goa on a public Interest litigation filed
by me has set aside the appointments of Mr. Francis Silveira and Mr.
Nilkanth Harlankar as Parliamentary secretaries. The other issue of Cabinet
status bestowed on EDC Chairman Mr.Agnelo Fernandes, Deputy Chairman of Goa
Planning Board Dr. Wilfred De Souza and Commissioner of NRI affairs Mr.
Eduardo Faleiro is being pursued before the Supreme Court.

As I turn 50 next year its time to be penning down my memoirs. The chapter
on PILs will definitely be a very long one.

[Goanet] Church seeks recall right for voters...

2009-03-11 Thread mario rodrigues

HERALD

Church seeks recall right for voters

PTI
PANJIM, MARCH 10
Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, the Indian church has said that electorate should
have right to recall their elected representatives on grounds of non
performance, corruption and lack of personal integrity.
“The voters should consider those candidates who empower the electorate with
the right to recall their elected representatives on grounds of
non-performance, corruption and lack of personal integrity,” the resolution
adopted by Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) mentions.
The conference said that the voters should select and promote candidates
without any criminal record or background and having the genuine concerns of
youth, women and particularly poor and marginalised at heart.
The appeal drafted by CBCI and issued by Reverend Stanislaus Fernandes, said
that the candidate should promote communal harmony by scrupulous observance of
the constitutional provisions and guarantees as well as State laws.
“Be ready to take immediate preventive steps and punitive action against any
dissemination of divisive, hate generating literature and campaign,
communalisation of politics of defence forces, of police and of bureaucracy,”
it reads.
The CBCI appeal calls upon citizens who are about to go to the polls, to
exercise judiciously their right to elect those representatives who will
facilitate the emergence of a nation that we want to be through a responsible
and accountable governance.

[Goanet] Our Sacred Duty

2009-03-11 Thread mario rodrigues

Our Sacred Duty AHMEDABAD, MAR. 10, 2009, 13.05 Hrs (Cedric Prakash sj):
In a few weeks from now, India will once again go to vote in what is
universally regarded as the biggest ever democratic elections on the face of
the earth; by the third week of May, we will hopefully know, who will be
elected to govern us.
For us Christians, the mandate is clear: long ago, Jesus very categorically
stated “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s” thus implying that each one of us, as
citizens, need to get involved in the political process and in the area of
governance.
The Church has never fought shy from good governance and political involvement.
It is therefore binding on each one of us to do all we can to ensure that the
Augean stables of political life are cleansed and all of us have a Government
with representatives who are NOT corrupt, communal, casteist and criminal.
There is plenty that each one of us can do in the context of the ensuing
elections; among them are :
• to study the election manifestos of the various political parties; organize /
participate in debates on what they promise (bring to their notice their
promises of the last elections, if they have fulfilled or failed to keep them)
• to campaign for individuals / parties / ideologies that are transparent,
clean, willing to serve the people, preserve the diversity of the country and
uphold the sanctity of the Indian Constitution
• to report immediately any individual / party that breaches the Election Code
of Conduct
• to ensure that we vote and get as many people to exercise their franchise on
voting day
• to monitor the elections at the local level
• to report immediately (and in writing) cases of fraud (booth capturing,
rigging, etc.) or any other malpractices to the Chief Electoral Officer of your
State and to the local police station
Finally, we need to organize special prayers in our families, localities,
Churches so that we have elections which are free, fair and non-violent and
that those elected to govern us will have the courage, sagacity and honesty to
be concerned with the welfare of all, very specially the poor, the marginalized
and other vulnerable sections of our society.
There is no denying that all of us, have a SACRED DUTY to perform.

THE REASON GIVEN TO GOANS WAS:-

B) IT IS NOT PROFITABLE
C) GOANS ARE NOT A LARGE POPULATION

SO NOW:-
A) AIR ARABIA WILL START FOR GOANS OR FOR OUTSIDERS?
B) HAS GOA BEEN ALREADY SOLD OUT TO OUTSIDERS?
C) OR HAS GOAN POPULATION IN UAE SUDDENLY GROWN?
D) HOW COME THIS SECTOR IS BECOME VERY PROFITABLE EVEN IN CURRENT CRISIS?

[Goanet] GOANS NEED TO READ THIS STORY OF MP/MINISTERS AND VOTE FOR CHANGE..........

2009-03-08 Thread mario rodrigues

One day a florist goes to a barber for a haircut. After the cut he asked about
his bill and the barber replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing
community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber goes to open his shop the next morning there is a 'thank you'
card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the
barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community
service this week.' The cop is happy and leaves the shop.

The next morning when the barber goes to open up there is a 'thank you' card
and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Later that day, a college professor comes in for a haircut, and when he tries
to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm
doing community service this week.' The professor is very happy and leaves the
shop.

The next morning when the barber opens his shop, there is a 'thank you' card
and a dozen different books, such as 'How to Improve Your Business' and
'Becoming More Successful.'

Then, a Member of Parliament comes in for a haircut , and when he goes to pay
his bill the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing
community service this week.' The Member of Parliament is very happy and leaves
the shop.

The next morning when the barber goes to open up, there are a dozen Members of

I AM TAKING THE LIBERTY TO POST THE COMMENT OF JOHN DESA -RgdsMario (My comment
is also put up..)

Freddy/Mario,

Thank you for the beautiful poem based on the Rice Fields of Goa.

It reminds me of my childhood days in Goa. Pez was prepared at my house, but
not regularly, however, one of my Aunty (5 minutes walking distance) would
prepare pez of (Kosunche Thandu, Korgut Thandu) every day. If Pez was not
made at home, then I would go to my Aunty's place and have Pez over there.
Another Aunty would make Ambil, once in a while, and I would enjoy that too.

It also reminds me of the paddy grown 100 meters across a rivulet behind my
house (Cortalim) in a Khazon/Manos. Farmers would grow paddy over there
naturally without any fertilizer. I beleive the Khazon is sold to a UK based
company for a song.

I also remember my boarding days in Curtorim, a village full of fields and also
the paddy smell after reaping.

Would appreciate leads to purchase (Kosunche Thadnu/Korgut Thandu) in Goa.

COMMENTS FROM MARIO
Dear Freddy

It is GOOD of you to remind me, us other GOANS of the wonderful fields(Xet)
given to us Free by GOD and of the times FOOD (especially RED RICE(MOTEM
TANNU/XETANTLEM TANNU other foods...) which we ate and stored in plenty for
365 days(especially filled in barns for mansoons).

And sickness those days remained at a distance from our bodies, with the
traditional, regular, grandmothers delicious PEZ( 11 o clock) with 'Kharem'.

Xet is a Goans PRIDE, let us try and retain as much land/fields as possible and
try how we can make a plentiful produce.

a) GOANS DO NOT SELL LAND/FIELDS
b) GOANS DO NOT fall for 5 star pleasures/crores Rs. lying in the banks and
food. (Oily Fries and overcooked grilled delicacies and all coloured soft
drinks only REDUCES our lifes and health and our HEARTS are EVER-READY for the
ATTACK.

What will we do then with the crores in bank?

So watch out, Enjoy XETANTLEM TANNU AND ADSORACHEM UDOK and find out the
difference in our health.

Long Live Goans. Live happily Goans. Thank you Freddy

Re: [Goanet] Boycott Hotel Cidade de Goa (Gulf International Promotions/Mohit/Samir/Vitness Citizen)

2009-03-05 Thread mario rodrigues

MY REPLY TO GIP, MOHIT, SAMIR, VITNESS

TO : GIP ( Whats your name ? Raul Fernandes? ) gipsp...@emirates.net.ae

GIP : “The hotel (leaving aside the owners) is an Icon oF Goa “
MARIO : It may be an Icon for the RICH(illegal wealth accumulators)
For me , a Goan(I hope others agree) , only because it stands on “GOAS”
beach it is an “Icon”. It is , cannot would not have been an
   Icon otherwise.

GIP : It is owned by Goa and not by any foreign International Chain.
MARIO : So let them continue to own what belongs ‘legally’ to them. They cannot
and would not be allowed to extend to beach and in sea
tomorrow then own the beaches of Goa, which rightly is owned by
every single Goan, the ownership being given by the ‘owner’ of
this universe. So, noone should ever think of taking away the birth
right of Goans to walk freely on any beaches, and we will walk on our
golden beaches 24x7 in our ‘KHASTI’. Noone should dare not finger
us , and dare not disgrace the beaches with your 5 star ‘SUIT’.

GIP : The Hotel is equal to, if not better than, any International hotel
Chain In Goa.
MARIO : Which world are you living in. Goas hotels are not famous all around
the world, but the beaches of Goa are. It’s the true lovers of Goa
beaches who flock and come to Goa. Those who love to stay indoors
in a concrete piece of decorum and do ALL things which cannot be
done on open beaches but within the 4 walls and air conditioners
come stay inside ‘HOTEL”. These rich are very few compared to the
millions who flock to Goa.

GIP : The staff are fantastic and they definitely do not deserve to loose
their jobs.
MARIO : Goans are always in demand all over the world, check out the
statistics in worldwide employment bureau and compare how many Goans
are working in the hospitality industry. Bosco of Divar who gave
his life on 26/11 in TAJ is just one of the example.

GIP : One has to visit and stay at the hotel to experience it
MARIO : GOANS need not stay in the 5 star to enjoy. God has given more than 5
star to Goans. True Goans do not jump in the tiny swimming
pool, they have the seas; True Goans do not enjoy the fish cooked
served in 5 stars, they fish their own fish ; True Goans do not
sleep in the comfort of the noisy airconditioners, they love to
sleep under the swinging palms or mango trees or even the beaches; True
Goans does not enjoy the imported lights in the garden , they
admire the stars above; True Goans does not require walls(like the hotels)
for protection, they are protected by their neighbours(I know they
did…and wish they do….now)

GIP : If you don't like it maybe one should move onto another state
???
MARIO : This is the biggest blunder we Goans made , making will make. We
should STAY PUT in Goa and fight it.
When I am saying this , it is applicable to me first and all NRGs.
Difficult after we stepped out but not impossible. Yes we can survive in
Goa just like our grandparents did and some are still living. Isnt
it?

Vitness Citizen rapeofchica...@ymail.com TO Mohit Soni : Goa isn't the place
to only come feast, drink and dance. We are people of the soil.
Its our sovereign right to protest if we find just able
clauses to do so. No one can stop free speech and for matters of this
magnitude a call for protest comes naturally. the
resolution to stand against it takes commitment, sparking the front is just the
 begging.
MARIO : I AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY and thanks for the detailed explanation to
Mohit. You did very well to explain the realities.

SAMIR : Please do not patronize Cidade de Goa, a hotel that is built on
grossly violating Supreme court guidelines.
MARIO : Good suggestion, Yes Goans have to stop the Violaters, Corrupt,
Illegal minds which seems to be growing in numbers multiplying.

MOHIT SONI (mohit.s...@gmail.com) : I have stayed at Cidade De Goa and we had
a 2nd honeymoon at that place, so I was shocked at first
   when I read your mail
and then the blog.
MARIO : So ,by chance, is it a boy or girl ? ha….. so only in this 5 star can
you have a honeymoon? You must be kidding. I had several
honeymoons and continue having them at every single place in Goa
and all over Goa everytime I visit my lovely, beautiful Goa. So please
get this out from you head that only this place can you have a
honeymoon.

SPECIAL NOTE :
REMEMBER 5 STAR HOTELS WOULD BE ABLE TO FEED ONLY FROM WHAT THEY HAVE AND MAKE.
BUT A FISHER CAN WELL BE ABLE TO FISH ONLY 2 FISH AND YET 5000 PEOPLE AND 4000

GOD gave beautiful GOA to GOANS to enjoy, live and Protect GOA ..
GOANS have not lived upto the dreams GOD had for us GOANS
GOANS were supposed to be the luckiest lot to be born in GOA...

And today as a Goan, what did I do ?
a) I am fighting with my own family for property for 15-20 years and allowing
all bhailes and outsiders to build whatever, wherever, even next to or in my
own land.within couple of days.
b) I am roaming with a 'price' tag and everyone now knows I ( Goan ) can be
BOUGHT easily enough
c) I am shouting at the poor slum people because they cannot understand my
englizy but we keep quiet like a mouse and allow FIVE STAR SLUMS to
flourish so that we can also enjoy once in a way by going to the PRIVATE SLUM
BEACH

GOANS GOANS GOANS
The beach was ours, given free by GOD
The field was ours, given free by GOD
The hills were ours, given free by GOD
The swaying palms were ours, given free by GOD
The beautiful houses(call it portuguese type or goan houses) were such a

The garden was ours, given free by GOD

and what did we GOANS do. ALLOWED 5 STAR ILLEGAL SLUMS CONCRETE JUNGLE to

I would not hesitate to say, WE ( GOANS) are like ADAM AND EVE and have
ignored GODs instruction and are EATING OF THE WRONG TREE.

Sorry to say Goans, we have become like prostitutes….available to everyone,
giving in to the highest bidder. Don’t worry dear Goans for the word used
“PROSTITUTES”. Remember one thing Dear Goans, no one will dare throw a stone
at us for our sins, because those who dare to throw stones at us are the
biggest sinners. We all are sinners. No doubt. Greed, Fame, Money, Pride,
Ego, Richess, seems to have become “the way of Life”. Noone seems to be
comfortable with the “the way of the Cross”. And our God, the right judge has
already warned them “ let the one who is without sin cast the first stone”. My
point is not if I or other should throw stones, my message is simple “Let us
Sin no More” “ Let us stay away from worldly temptations”

Its not too late yet, wake up now and join the many true activists who do exist
in Goa and lets fight back to get Goa as it was on 19th Dec, 1961. Nothing
less, nothing more. We want GOAs Beaches, Fields, Hills, Palms, Houses, Gardens
as it was.

I am sure many goans have read the below story, If not then here it is about
Goans(however Susegad it may sound, Goans knew how to live Life, How to Enjoy

STORY
A boat docked in a tiny Goan village. A tourist from Mumbai complimented the
Goan fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to
catch them.

‘Not very long,’ answered the fisherman. ‘But then, why didn’t you stay out
longer and catch more?’ asked the Mumbaite.

The Goan fisherman explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his
needs and those of his family.

The Mumbaite asked, ‘But what do you do with the rest of your time?’

‘I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my
wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, play guitar,
sing a few songs… I have a full life.’

The Mumbaite interrupted, ‘I have an MBA from IIM-A, and I can help you! You
should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you
catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat.’

‘And after that?’ asked the Goan.

‘With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and
a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of

[Goanet] CROREPATI CARNIVAL AS REPORTED IN GOAN OBSERVER

2009-03-02 Thread mario rodrigues

Crorepati carnival Feb 21st, 2009 | Category: Cover Story, Lead Story

BY RAJAN NARAYAN
The Carnival of Loot and Plunder of politicians in power misusing and abusing
their authority for their private benefit is a 365-day phenomenon.
THE CROREPATI carnival continues with India Today listing five crorepati MLAs
in Goa among the richest politicians in the country. The survey of the richest
politicians in the country which appeared in the India Today issue dated
February 3, 2009, covered Members of Parliament, chief ministers and Members of
the Legislative Assembly. Even going by the income declared in the affidavits
that they submitted at the time of filing their nominations during the last
assembly elections, according to the survey, Goa has five crorepati Members of
the Legislative Assembly.

BABUSH ASSETS: Babush Monserrate’s mansions on the Dona Paula-Miramar bypass
(top left) and in Taleigao will have a market value of over Rs. 15 crores.
Heading the list of crorepati MLAs according to the India Today survey is the
controversial mine owner and contractor of the long abandoned River Princess
with an officially declared income of a whopping Rs. 91.4 crores. Indeed, Anil
Salgaocar ranks eight among the ten wealthiest politicians in the country -
just behind Anand Singh, the BJP MLA representing Vijaynagra in Karnataka and
M.A.M. Ramswamy, the industrialist and race horse baron who is a Janata dal
member of the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. While Anil Salgaocar’s wealth does
not come as a surprise, considering his significant stake in the iron ore
export business in Goa (which witnessed a huge boom in the last five years),
the declared wealth of the other politicians in the list are obviously due to
the misuse and abuse of their very remunerative offices of profit.
Trailing far behind in terms of the declared assets of Rs. 91.4 crores
attributed to Anil Salgaocar independent MLA from Sanvordem is Babush
Monserrate, the independent MLA from Taleigao whose total declared assets are
shown at Rs. 15 crores in the India Today survey. This is obviously a gross
underestimate as, in his declaration to the returning officer, Babush
Monserrate had grossly undervalued the market price of his ancestral mansion in
Taleigao and his new mansion on the Dona Paula-Miramar bypass road in Panjim.
Besides these two properties, it is public knowledge that Monserrate owns
another plush mansion in the La Citadel colony in Dona Paula.
BABUSH LOOT
HE, or rather his son, is known to have bought the former Hotel Libdoran, which
is adjacent to the Monserrate mansion on the Dona Paula bypass. Babush has
also, in his declaration, admitted to owning several apartments and commercial
premises in Campal and Kamat Kinara. It is also rumoured that Babush Monserrate
has several floors in many buildings of owners to whom he granted a higher FAR
during his tenure as Town and Country Planning Minister, notably Shalom which
was allowed to go up to eight floors from the existing four floors during
Monserrate’s tenure. Monserrate has also admitted to having prime property in
Bangalore.
It has been repeatedly alleged that the principal source of his assets, which
are conservatively assessed at over Rs. 250 crores, came from the alleged
kickbacks he extorted during the preparation of the scrapped Regional Plan 2011
when land sharks were permitted to literally dictate the shape of the Regional
Plan for a hefty kickback. Indeed, if the market value of all of Babush’s
declared known assets, including his fleet of cars and fancy motorcycles, is
calculated it would far exceed the declared assets of the MLA from Sanvordem,
Anil Salgaocar.
RICHY RICH
ACCORDING to the India Today survey of the Assembly of the rich, the third
richest MLA in the state of Goa is the former chief minister and the present
speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Pratapsingh Raoji Rane, who represents the
Poriem constituency in the Legislative Assembly of Goa. Senior Rane’s declared
assets do not come as a surprise as he is known to be a wealthy man with a
flourishing farm in the Sattari taluka. Indeed Pratapsingh Rane has always
prided himself on being a successful farmer. Besides his farm house, senior
Rane is also known to own a bungalow in Altinho, a flat in Miramar and several
other properties. Presumably, since agricultural income is not taxable, the
probability is that senior Rane is worth much more than his declared assets. In
his official declaration, like all other politicians, Senior Rane has only
shown the depreciated book value of his various agricultural and non
agricultural properties and not the market value. Going by the fact that t
here has been a phenomenal increase in real estate prices, the assets of the
senior Rane are likely to be worth closer to Rs. 80 crores rather than the Rs,
8.9 crores he has declared in his affidavit on assets and liabilities at the
time of contesting the last general elections.

Dear Floriano

I have always will continue to appreciate, applaud, welcome, thank you GSRP
for all you'll did and are doing for Goa and Goans.

Thanks again for all the hardships, pains, running around you did and do for
Goa and Goans sake.

I know you cannot be a policemen for entire GOA, especially to Timblo who also
happens to be your friend and probably he may now drop the 500 crores charges
against seby. Good luck.

But, I am still NOT able to understand, If what Calypso, Estrela
'Fahrenheit's did was VIOLATIONS

If what the FISHERFOLKS did for the sake of their families is VIOLATIONS

Then what is it that CIDADE did that WAS VIOLATIONS and now IS NOT
VIOLATIONS.

EVERYONE acted in such a swift, smart, quiet, hush-hush manner to ensure
ORDINANCE is signed, sealed and delivered promptly, confidentially and on
schedule.

It appears that CIDADE is a BIG JOINT FAMILY and probably we can not only
find DOGS AND GOANS NOT ALLOWED ON THEIR PRIVATE BEACH , but we may also
probably find 'PIGS, FISHERFOLKS, GOANS NOT ALLOWED'

Time will tell.

I am not sure why my name is ANDREW. But going back 2000 years If Andrew was a

soul a FISHERMEN and will continue to be with them(FISHERFOLKS) but if I
myself can follow HIM and lead them to HIM HIS values teachings is a big
HOPE. HOPE and HOPING you are me with on this.

These comments made me dive into my archives for something that I had
written a long time ago to re-enforce the point that Soter makes. It is the
Synopsis of the Writ Petition that I filed against the CRZ violations by 3
hotels in Calangute/Baga belt, 'Calypso', 'Estrela do Mar' and
'Fahrenheit's. It will be seen that I have departed from the set legalese of
putting together the synopsis. However, it is to be noted that cognizance of
the Petition was duly taken by the Honourable High Court of Bombay at Goa
and major portions of the CRZ violations by the 3 hotels have been razed
especial of the Calypso to the tune of crores of rupees.

On reading the reports on subject matter in various newspapers, I am not only
disturbed as a Goan , but as a Citizen of India it baffles me that for the gain
of few wealthy people and their partners, Goa, Government is now trying to
amend laws by approaching you(or probably already approached) to regularize it
by a stroke of the pen. If signed, it will then appear so easy to find new
laws and amendments every morning we get up. Is it really so simple as that ?
Are we Goans to be taken for such an easy ride?

I request you, Sir, not to sign it. Because the moment you sign it, Supreme
Court of India will be put to shame. This will not only tarnish the image of
Supreme Court but United Nations and Sovereign Countries all over the world
will also question the integrity and judicial systems of India.

I humbly request you to uphold the principles, dignity, sovereignity of India
and its laws. I hope the Prime Minister of India, President of India, Supreme
Court of India, Congress President, President of BJP, understands what is
happening in Goa and take appropriate steps to prevent degradation of the
Supreme Court of India, The Elected Government’s first thought should be the
service to ‘aam admi of Goa’.

Re: [Goanet] Why?

2009-02-24 Thread mario rodrigues

Dear Rajan

I agree with you and do endorse my support on the issue

When A R Rahman OR Tendulkar(Duty for Ferrari) can easily pay the taxes/duties,
why is the Indian government/Ministers providing them with exemptions that will
make them more RICH and the POOR(incl.middleclass) more POOR.
Looks like Indian Government is worried more about KHAS ADMI rather than AAM
ADMI. In this time of recession every penny for the Government is important
and should be wisely used for the upliftment of the poor and the unfortunate,
the fortunate have all the comforts at their disposal and the tax factor will
not make much of a dent in their ever so inflated finances, but imagine how it
would serve the poor and the needy. The Government should not take the food out
of the mouth of the poor and give it to the rich or even the super rich.

I have due respect for P.Chidambaram and A R Rahman and Tendulkar. But I
strongly object to P.Chidamabaram's this statement of tax exemptions to cash
prizes. Well, I would be happy if A R Rahman is taxed more and the government
takes this amount and provides or improves basic facilities of the slums
dwellers. I am sure A R Rahman also would be more than happy in doing this. The
Government can always honour A R Rahman separately, even if it means rewarding
him with the same tax amount. But the system of honouring by way of tax
exemptions does not sound good for the 'system'.

Well A R Rahman and Tendulkar, with the savings from tax exemptions may be
doing more charitities probably, but that should not make the Government to
change it’s policy on taxation. Taxation laws should not favour anybody, they
should be implemented universally and without any biases. It’s good governance
when all are treated equally immaterial of their status.

Best Regards
Mario Andrew Rodrigues

[Goanet] Are Goan politicians making money responsibly?

2009-02-02 Thread mario rodrigues

Politicians are supposed to declare all their assets before election. Who is
responsible for all this assessment and investigation ? Our Goan Politicians
are flaunting their wealth openly, with all their imported cars, banglows,
properties, foreign trips, etc, how come no action is taken ? Are the
investigation agencies blind ? Or are there enough loop holes left around, for
our politicians to play around ?

From where do Goan Politicians get all their money ? Washington: The White
House pledged action against irresponsible bonuses for executives at
bailed-out Wall Street companies as a Democratic senator unveiled legislation
to limit their compensation to $400,000 (Dh1.46 million) a year.

The Goan community in Britain has come together to pray for the safe return of
an Indian-origin boy Jonathan Marques, who is reportedly missing since January
6.Prayer meetings have been organised in Reading and London while the local
police continue to search rivers and other areas for Jonathan.A public campaign
has been launched here to locate the 15-year-old who moved to Britain three
years ago with his parents. He, however, was reported to be unhappy with the
move and wanted to return to Goa.Over the weekend, Jonathan's parents, Menino
Marques and Arcanja Afonso Marques, led a march to retrace their boys last
known steps followed by hundreds of family, friends and well-wishers.The march
followed a mass at St Jamess Church in Fobney Road. The family are very upset
and we do not know what to do now. We are very worried and if Jonathan can hear
this, please we miss you a lot, your mummy and daddy and your sisters and
brother want to embrace you.Just come back or ring us, we want to hear your
voice, that is all, Marques said. The event was attended by people from the
Goan community from Reading, Swindon, where the Marqueses have family,
Maidenhead and London as well as Alok Sharma, the Conservative prospective
Parliamentary candidate for Reading West, who has been supporting the family in
their campaign.Speaking at the march, Sharma said, We wanted to march together

rallies, religious or otherwise by political parties are just gimmicks to
ennoble their piquant colossal aura for power and position, which further
incubates and flourishes corruption and debauchery. I am sorry to say that
none of our present politicians, Congress or BJP have the noble qualifications
for the noble profession (service to Mother Land Fellowmen).
I hope Goans will see through the pardha of deception, deceit and illusion
of both parties, the appalling truth. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes

How can everyone praise Rahman India. And at the same time critize the
outsider for making this movie for displaying poor image of Mumbai.
I could read this whole drama as DOUBLE TALKI could relate this to similar
dialogue of SHOLAYHeads(MUSIC) I win, Tails(SLUMBOG MILLIONAIRE) you loose
How can this DOUBLE reactions be possible?
Wake up Indians, there is lot of POVERTY(slums) in India, and offcourse also
around the World. But it is for us, our government, our enterprenours, our
wealthy in India to do everything possible to eradicate slums in India. Don’t
expect the west to do this for us. If we think the West looks only at our Slums
and not the Tajs, then leave it, forget those in the west who looks this way
since this is their PROBLEMS, their mindsets. There are many in the west who
knows what India is and its capacities and richness and admire our Tajs. It is
for us Indians to do our best to look best, present the best, promote our best.
DONT WORRY ABOUT THOSE WHO POINT FINGURES TO OUR SLUMS. AND IF SO, REMEMBER
THEIR OWN FOUR FINGERS ARE POINTED BACK AT THEM.BUT we should thank the
director for showing this to the World, not because they wanted to see, but it
is WE Indians(especially the RICH) who sees the slums every day and do nothing
about it. We see the slums and close our eyes. We see them suffer and keep on
partying ourselves. We smell the slums and quickly stuff our nose with the best
perfumed handkerchief.
But one thing for sure, our slums are visible even before anyone lands in
Mumbai. Actually the RICH have not seen it. They do not have time to see it. It
is good that someone had showed it. This movie is meant to be seen by every
RICH, MILLIONAIRE of India and do something if they can. Otherwise please let
others lift them up. Even the young actors of SM said that they realised the
plight of these slums only after they worked in this movie. So you see the RICH
do not know anything or know everything and pretend as if they know nothing, or
they simply say why did others show my neighbouring slums. If our slums should
not be photographed, then please let the 27 storey type buildings surface for
them.
WAKE UP INDIA. IF WE ARE TRULY THE BEST, LET THE BEST EXIST AROUND US, IN INDIA.

Dear Freddy

To your mind, heart blowing article, I would not say once, twice, but 100 times
YES CGW's has indeed lost its charm. There may be thousand reasons, time
factor, money power, return to gulf scenarios, babies in womb scenarios(one off
may be,but possible), circumstances.
Whatever the reason, we lost OUR HAPPINESS, LOVE FOR NEIGHBOURS, CULTURE,
IDENTITY.
I request you to please please make sure, somehow , this reaches all TIATR
directors and I am sure one of them will work towards bringing this onstage to
the so called modern generation, to others(forgetful generation) that we are
living with artifical-charm.
Let this be done. I plead. Lets try to rewind. Even if one wedding can take
place in the near future exactly as per your email, I would say YOU DID IT.
I say it is possible simply because Obama is rewinding too...by going with the
Lincoln bible and food.
I know Obama is Obama. But why not try to beleive and try to REWIND GOA.

charset=utf-8 Goa is becoming the favourite hobby horse of these
right-wing groups. Goa is everything they despise, progressive, liberal and
visibly Catholic. Get ready for more and more of these Bollywood dance
numbers to take place in Goa. The way to combat this is for moderate Hindus
of Goa to get together and run these organisations out of Goa. There is no
place for these people in Goa. Incidentally, I came across this letter from
an American newspaper in 1961. It was written by George O. Fowler. ?But
the Hindu Goan is Goan first and then Hindu. He does not in his heart
regard his Christian or Moslem neighbor as a stranger to be despised? It
is an amazing characteristic of Goan life, that as keenly religious as the
Goans are, they heartily respect their neighbour?s creed, whatever it may be.
There are no anathemas, no offenses, no slights, no comparisons, and no
discriminations. Hindu Goan, Moslem Goan and Christian Goan are cordial to one
another in both public life and private, in a manner that many other parts of
the world would do well to imitate.? What a long way we have come from
1961. Best, Selma

The longer the period , CULPRITS/CRIMINALS/TERRORISTS continue to enjoy and

When the cases go on and on , WE can only conclude that the WHOLE LOT seems to

ruling the roost, India has not been shining for the Judiciary. The recent hike
in salaries of Supreme Court and High Court judges was long overdue. The Chief

an irony that India's highest paid Advocate General in Goa, Mr. Subodh Kantak,
is still earning five times the salary of the Chief Justice of India.Accepting
the position of a judge is a very big challenge. One has tosacrifice one's

to read through in the evening in preparation for thenext day.The Government
should now act expeditiously and also hike the salaries andimprove the benefits
of Subordinate Court Judges, Public prosecutors,Assistant Public Prosecutors
and other Government advocates. Today someJudges are travelling by buses and
there is a need to provide vehicles toall judges for their personal security
and convenience. Better benefits needto be given to Court staff too.It has to
be ensured that only persons with good knowledge of law and a goodinsight to
interpret and dispense it should be entrusted the responsibilityas Judges.
Government should ensure good pecuniary benefits to all thejudicial officers so
that the judiciary attracts nothing less than the bestand the brightest.Only
persons with sound knowledge of law should be selected even at theentry level
as Judicial Magistrate First Class. The selection of subordinatecourt judges
has to be very meticulous as persons who cannot interpret thelaw damage the

[Goanet] CHRISTMAS MESSAGE - FR. ERROL FERNANDES

2008-12-24 Thread mario rodrigues

The rejection of the Word by Jesus’ own people, while being a historical fact,
is a rejection that continues even today. Darkness continues to try to overcome
the light. This becomes evident when we look at our world which is a world in
which corruption, selfishness, injustice, intolerance, communal disharmony and
racial and caste discriminations continue to raise their ugly heads. Darkness
is seen when people continue to concern themselves with only the desire to have
more rather than be more. It is seen when the concern to accumulate for oneself
even to the detriment of not giving others their just due overpowers us.

Yet, despite this rejection of the Word, there is a note of hope and promise
because there continue to be people who will choose light over darkness and
selflessness over selfishness. There will continue to be people who fight for
justice and will never give up this cause. There will continue to be people who
will generously give not only of their wealth but also of themselves in
imitation of the one who became human and gave all. Those who opt for the light
can continue to do so because their openness to the Incarnate Word and all that
he stands for allows them to receive grace upon grace from him. This abundance
of grace continues to sustain them through the most trying times and gives them
the courage never to give up or give in, but to continue and carry on.

Therefore, the great message of Christmas is that God became what we are, so
that we could understand better what God is, and we could believe with all our
hearts that God understands what we are.

Those who dare to accept the light and walk in its ways begin to realize that
God himself walks with them and ahead of them. They know that God does not stay
distant from them, remote and isolated; rather, in Jesus, God chose to live
with humanity in the midst of human weakness, confusion, and pain. This bond
holds true for all times and all places. To become flesh is to know joy, pain,
suffering, and loss. It is to love, to grieve, and someday to die. The
incarnation binds Jesus to the “everydayness” of human experience. The Word
lived among us, not simply in the world. The Word became flesh and the Word’s
name is Jesus Christ. This Jesus continues to be born in our midst even today.
When selflessness triumphs over selfishness; when generosity triumphs over
greed; when light overcomes darkness, that is when Jesus is born again and
again and every day is Christmas.

Captivity and limitations have come to an end. Now only freedom and
limitlessness are real.

Thus, Christmas is not merely the celebration of a historical birth, a birth
that took place over two thousand years ago. It is about becoming conscious of
who we really are as human beings. It is the celebration of life in all its
fullness. It is the celebration of the transformation of limit to
limitlessness, of selfishness to selflessness, of bondage and fear to freedom
and unconditional love.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

A good opposition party can be respected if they dutifully oppose when they
have to(incase of excessive travelling, dinning, dancing, illegal mining, mega
projects, crz violations.etc) and not be just mere silent spectators. It
appears that whoever is in opposition just waits for the downfall of the
government so that they can grab the KODEL and when government is in
opposition, they wait for their turn again.
So its time to GETRID of current government and opposition. Time for REGIONAL

measures to stop the unnecessary strain on Goa's exchequer. There has to be
a curb on unnecessary traveling by Ministers and in particular the foreign

dining at the people's cost. In holding on to his chair Chief Minister
Digambar Kamat has had to walk a tight rope with some Ministers within his
cabinet not seeing eye to eye. Time and again the Chief Minister has had to
diffuse virtual in-camera cabinet bull fights. Infact the brunt and

mean, let the beaches be full of shacks and beds that common person can cannot

( There was a time when there was lot of place on beach for DRIED FISH, but
now it is only TWO LEGGED TANNING- I can see our taste has changed!!! 4.
Does it mean, close his eyes and ears and support mining activities 24x7?5.
Does it mean, go slow on demands of special status for Goa so that they win a
lottery from mega projects?6. Does it mean, keep on allowing migrants and let
slumps grow like mushrooms in Goa?7. Does it mean, drive bumper to bumper on
the same roads(1960's ) and let people die anytime?8. Does it mean, keep
providing clear drinking water to star hotels and let people drink from
contaminated pipes?9. Does it mean, keep open skies for charters to land on the

mean, GOANS should now buy BREAD from outsiders?Oh hoGOOD to see

[Goanet] Candolim comes to a standstill GPCC Pres.Mr.Shirodkar says Ministers should vist the citizens...

2008-12-18 Thread mario rodrigues

Its good to know after 8 years, many have taken the initiative to come out on
the streets, even faith leaders have been ropped in to bury and put the DEAD
PRINCESS to the eternal rest. WOW...
How come sudden love being cooked for the people of Goa. This is because as
The GPCC President Mr. Subash Shirodkar, says Ministers should visit the
“citizens” to hear their grievances, “pertaining” to their portfolios.

WHAT IS THE REAL STORY?
All these 8 years who gave and who received to keep their mouths shut?
May be all that they earned during these 8 years is now lost due to global
financial crisis?
No more kasmiri shops and no incoming rent from kashmiris? Afghanis and
migrants?
No more business as shacks are closing at 7pm so no way to make more?
Those who paid to get the lottery for the shack may be demanding return of
their funds? ( Outsiders got the lottery and villagers who put shacks for years
and was their only source of their income were deprived)
New way to get some more from the owners of princess? for survival
Now that people are generallly upset, it is a good ploy laid down by ministers
to get together with people(citizen) and earn some respect and votes and keep
fooling people for some more time.
Now that people do not have any work(hotels have less occupancy, shacks close
at 7pm) so before PEOPLE get upset on other issues like migrants(kasmiris and
afghanis and other migrants). Is it a tactic to shift the focus from migrants
to princess?
May be a good idea to divert peoples demand for petrol pump for the area?
May be a good idea to divert the peoples attention from mega projects(some even
touching the coast line and within the nonpermissible CRZ regulations?)
May be no money to buy some more land by hook or crook?

I actually would FIRST of all thank ALL those who gave their lives in Mumbai
attacks. They perished so that We(Goans) Indians could live long. Goa's
security is now up because of those Jawans, Commandos, Policeforce, NSG
people who gave their lives. The point I am trying to make is If nothing had
happenned in Mumbai, then ministers, leaders(incl faith leaders), people would
be busy in their hotel business, preaching , christmas new year bashing
activities and NOONE would have come FORWARD to do anything. BLESSING IN
DISGUISE.
ACTUALLY IT IS A SHAME ON US SINCE WE WAKE UP ONLY WHEN SOMEONE DIES FOR US.
ANYWAY, BETTER LATE THAN NEVER, SO IT IS GOOD PEOPLE HAVE WOKEN UP ATLEAST
NOW..and HOPE PEOPLE KNOW THE REAL STORY rather than blindly following
a leader who is just trying to keep KODEL intact.

Candolim comes to a standstill

MAPUSA- Candolim came to a standstill on Wednesday morning as around 6000
Candolim villagers took to the streets demanding immediate removal of the River
Princess, which has been lying grounded off Candolim-Sinquerim beach for more
than eight years. The protestors, who joined hands under the banner of River
Princess Hatao Manch, blocked all vital points of the village paralysing normal
life of Candolim.

2008-12-16 Thread mario rodrigues

WHAT IS GOAs MANTRA?

1) WILL GOA BE SLUM FREE?
OR
2) GOAs LAND WILL BE AVAILABLE FREE FOR SLUMS?

Plan for slum free Chennai by 2011Taking the initiative to make Chennai a
slum-free city by 2011, the Tamil Nadu government has started constructing
several residential Complexes across the metropolis to rehabilitate
slum-dwellers.
Efforts are being taken by the Chennai Corporation in association with Tamil
Nadu Slum Clearance Board (TNSCB), to ensure that Chennai will be slum-free
within the next two years, Chennai Corporation Mayor M Subramaniam said. He
said the entire exercise would be carried out with the people's cooperation.
The plan will involve two aspects - resettling of people living along the
city's waterways and those living along the coast, he added. TNSCB officials
said seven-storeyed complexes would also be constructed to rehabilitate
slum-dwellers. The process of identifying slums had already begun and the
tenements would be built under both the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban
Revenwal Mission and Chennai City River Conservation Project, they said. Land
acquisition for the new complexes had not posed a problem as there was enough
government land available, officials said.

What ever or where ever the school might be, as soon as you think of your

charset=iso-8859-1 The Mumbai Terror Attacks have brought the whole
country together. It is startling to see people gathering, lighting candles
and showing so much anger at politicians and demanding action against the
preparators of this horrendous crime that is Pakistan. ?Handful of Terrorist
brought the nation of? 1.4 billion to standstill for 60? hours. The deaths of
200 people ?and 400 others injured galvanised the nation. But however deaths
due to terrorism is not the only reason people die in our country. It is
shocking to note that? appx. 100,000 people die every year in vehicular
accidents which is the highest in the world. ?India has 6 million vehicles
 and the USA 250 mil

fatalities in vehicular accidents ! As per world road accident statistics?
India has 1% of the vehicles in the world and 10% of the fatalities in
vehicular accidents ! That is 10 times the world average. That measures up?
almost 300 casualties ?a day due to ?road accidents? which ?is more than those
?died in Mumbai after 26/11? terror attacks. And nobody speaks up against
these deaths? in our country. The reasons are pitiable state of
?infrastructure, no ?planning and? poor maintenance of our roads and above all?

affect Tourism in the long run, destruction of environment ecology, rampant
hill cutting, destruction of our beaches sand dunes, huge uncontrolled

severe lack of employment opportunities at sustainable pay scales which are

[Goanet] Can We Do Away with the Politicians

2008-12-10 Thread mario rodrigues

Dr Eugene D’Souza, Mumbai

The recent terrorist attack on the prime targets in Mumbai and the death of
scores of innocent people has transformed the citizens of Mumbai in particular
and the entire nation in general into ‘angry citizens’ braying for the blood of
the politicians. At no stage in the history of independent India that the ire
and contempt of the people against the political class across the board had
been so vocal and shrill as has been witnessed especially in Mumbai during the
past few days.
As against the popular belligerent mood of the people, the politicians have
practically gone underground, except few faces with fluency in language and
sound in argument on the TV. The rest of the tribe has gone into hibernation,
waiting for the anger of the people to douse, so that they can reemerge and
take the nation for a ride once again during the next general elections.

The question which is foremost in the minds of the people is- Can we do away
with the politicians? Some even suggest that there should be a benevolent
dictator to solve the problems faced by the nation. Still others feel that
technocrats and experts in different fields can run the administration.
The answer for the above question is, No. We cannot do away with the
politicians, but certainly we can do away with the politicians with criminal
background, corrupt and inefficient, and bring in those persons into politics
who are known for their integrity, honesty, sincerity and social service. It is
like blood transfusion by which the deceased blood can be replaced by healthy
blood and rejuvenate the person, so the political body.

[Goanet] Reply to Fr. Antonio's Rodrigues C.Ss.R message

2008-11-22 Thread mario rodrigues

Dear Fr. Antonio,

I am extremely happy and thankful to you for bringing out truth, hope that
touched my heart.
By taking time to write , I understood that truth hope should not remain
inside the Church, Temple, Mosque anymore. You showed us the way surely many
more(especially the Good and the silent sufferers) will be inspired and
encouraged not to keep silent from now on but to speak out/write so that evil
perishes from Goa's soils.

I am happy you broke the silence of long that Gods disciples are indeed meant
for proclaiming good news of Gods Love above all things and love of neighbours
not only inside the Church, Temples, Mosques but also where it is needed so
that human dignity is restored and there is evil is uprooted from Goa's soil
so that people in Goa can live in peace harmony, without fearing a sudden
knock on their door anymore. Yes Father, we hear your Cry. I am sure many heard
your cry. I only hope that all those who are also crying for long and alone
will speak out loudly clearly, together.

To All Goans
I would say to all Goans we need to do what Fr. Antonio Rodrigues has righty
done.
“SPEAK OUT THE TRUTH”

TEACHINGS: If you don't speak out to warn the wicked to stop their evil ways,
they will die in their sin. But I will hold you responsible for their death.

DO NOT BE AFRAID are repeated 365 times throughout in the Bible.

“Take courage, do not be afraid.”
“There is no fear in love; perfect love drives out all fear.

Lets assure Fr.Antonio that CULTURE OF GOA will reappear which will make the
world proud of GOA and GOANS. To do this, I , We, Everyone needs to get up ,
speak out and GET RID of the EVIL, now.

Best Regards
Mario Andrew Rodrigues

Dear Freddy,

Thanks for writing. I am happy someone else too have these wonderful memories.
And surely many others who experienced these would be glad. Those were the most
simple, genuine, realistic, accomadative moments.

You made me feel rightly that it is indeed death anniversary. Probably a
silver death anniversary. Because most of all those things listed have been
buried. My sympathies and condolences. I understand the loss of something which
we loved enjoyed.

But today there are many who do not and will not love all which you listed,
since they seems to have been already brain washed by the so called
infrastructues heading towards the sky by cutting hills, destroying fields,
reducing beach lines; easy access to accelarate on fast lane of death, dialing
and connecting to easy ways and means, easy hot cooking, immediate cooling
units, etc. They call it Development. Invention. They live in a BUSY world.
Busy under Satans Yoke.

We had and will have faith in whom we did not see.

Today people believe in that which tickles their egos, pride, ownership. They
call it Society Status. And they will open their eyes, ears, hearts to heavens
only after a Financial, Natural, enviornmental, tsunami strikes.

Only then will they realise and admire THE CREATOR. THE CREATOR WHO CREATED US
TO ENJOY HIS KINGDOM. We should continue to enjoy HIS creations as much as we
can and BE HAPPY.

Wishing you good health and continue to enjoy the childhoodworld, whenever it
is possible. And we must speak up whenever and wherever situation demands so
that nature and environment atleast can be treasured preserved.
Regards
Mario

Dear Borg- You said sometime back - WOMEN come out for FUKOT publicity.

Ans - Everything which comes FUKOT has lot of demand especially in Goa. And
this FUKOT givers are the 40 bosses who run Goa because there are so many FUKOT

Otherwise if these YOUTH and WOMEN really are genuine they would have come all

[Goanet] HAPPY DEEPAVALI

2008-10-27 Thread mario rodrigues

I came across their own values/messages/opinions/teachings of Diwali and
thought of sharing them (part of it) with you and with others. Tried to reduce
as much as possible. Bit lengthy but worth reading and practising , especially
to understand true meaning of diwali. HAPPY DEEPAVALI to ONE AND ALL-
Regards-Mario 1. Swami Shivananda SaraswatiThe deeper meaning of Diwali is
celebration of the message of Lord Rama’s life of sacrifice and dharma. Lord
Rama lived in hardship and exile for 14 years in the forest, it was neither a
fun-filled experience nor an easy life, amongst the poorest of the poor in
order to fulfill the terms of his father’s debt. Most of you received your
education in India before going abroad to earn a living and raise a family. The
money that you did not pay came from the poor. You were given free education
because they were given nothing. The degree enables him to succeed in the
foreign land and to prosper there. The debt is to those who subsidised that e
ducation, so that other people could receive that subsidised education at a
very small cost. Now that debt must be repaid. In order to repay it, we must
make some sacrifice. Remember that is dharma. Sacrifice for the sake of
righteousness is the essence of Indian culture. This is the message of Lord
Rama’s life. We must not only worship Lord Rama on Diwali; we must also take a
pledge to follow him. We must vow to fulfil our own responsibilities, to give
back what we have taken from the poor. When we too practise this dharma, we
will really have something to celebrate. Indian culture says that we are all
one. Indian culture says that as our brothers and sisters suffer in darkness,
so we too are suffering, although we may not be aware of it. 2. SWAMI
CHIDANANDA SARASWATI We decorate our homes with lanterns; but why? Too many
people turn this into a domestic beauty contest, spending days and a great deal
of money to purchase the newest dias, the most beautiful candles. “We had
75 candles burning last night,” we gloat. This is only the light of glamour.
It is not the light of God. One piece of cotton soaked in ghee, lit with a pure
heart, a conscious mind and an earnest desire to be free from ignorance is far
“brighter” than 100 fashion deepaks, lit in simple unconscious revelry. On this
day we clean every room of the house; we dust every corner of the garage, we
sweep behind bookshelves, vacuum under beds and empty out cabinets. But, what
about our hearts? When was the last time we swept out our hearts? When did we
last empty them of all the dirt and garbage that has accumulated throughout our
lives?Let us truly clean out our hearts; let us rid ourselves of the grudges,
pain, and anger that clutter our ability to love freely.Additionally, on
Diwali, we begin a new checkbook; we put last year’s accounts to rest. But,
what about our own balance sheets? When was the last time we assessed our
minuses and plusses, our strengths and our weaknesses, our
good deeds and selfish deeds? How many years’ worth of grudges and bitterness
and pain have we left unchecked?A good businessman always checks his balance
sheet: how much he spent, how much he earned. A good teacher always checks the
progress of her students: how many are passing, how many are failing. And they
assess themselves accordingly: “Am I a good businessman?” “Am I a good
teacher?” In the same way we must assess the balance sheets of our lives. Look
at the last year. Where do we stand? How many people did we hurt? How many did
we heal? How many times did we lose our temper? How many times did we give more
than we received? Then, just as we give our past checkbooks and the first check
of our new one to God, let us give all our minus and plus points to Him. He is
the one responsible for all our good deeds. And our bad ones are due only to
ignorance. So, let us turn everything over to Him, putting our strengths, our
weaknesses, our wins and our losses at His holy feet.
And then, let us start afresh, with a new book, unadulterated by old grudges
and bitterness. It is only God’s presence in our lives which makes us rich. Look
at India. People in small villages, in holy towns, in ancient cities have very
little in terms of material possessions. Most of them live below the Western
standards of poverty. Yet, if you tell them they are poor, they won’t believe
you, for in their opinion they are not. This is because they have God at the
center of their lives. Their homes may not have TV sets, but they all have
small mandirs; the children may not know the words to the latest rock and roll
song, but they know the words to Aarti; they may not have computers or fancy
history text books, but they know the stories of the Ramayana, the Mahabharata
and other holy scriptures; they may not begin their days with newspapers, but
they begin with prayer. If you go to these villages you may see what looks like
poverty to you. But, if you look a

Re: [Goanet] What abt the goans Mr. Monseratte?

2008-10-18 Thread mario rodrigues

Dear Borgee
You have indeed raised a very important concern for us Goans. Surely many
others in Goa and abroad most probably feels the same. It is so clear from
Monseratte's statement that he and many other politicians like him are just
too much self centered and least bothered about Goans. Everything that
comes from within a person defines how clean he is from inside. Dont go by
their clean looks, or beautiful cars and houses. LOOK what is going on in
their HEARTS. And we will find an answer.

Goans - Don't get fooled by their show of giving you money or helping you
for some projects/needs however crutial it may be . They are just making us
their slaves.

Bottom line :
1. Do not ask for favours.
2. Do NOT try to take verbal assurances and do anything illegal.
3. Take time, do what is right and legal.
4. Do not do anything that will make you their slave for LIFE.
5. It is better to take some pains now rather than pains for our and our
childrens life time.

6. Be patient do not fall in their trap. Think, Think, Think and than act.

And very important NEXT TIME you please do not waste your VOTE , think 100
times before and Vote for the party which you think will keep us safe and
peaceful.

Mario

Pope says crisis due to lack of faith

ReutersPublished: October 07, 2008, 00:43

Vatican City: Pope Benedict said on Monday that the global financial crisis
showed that faith in God trumped a lifetime spent pursuing material wealth.'We
see it now in the collapse of the great banks that money disappears, it's
nothing,' the Pontiff said. The global financial turmoil, the worst since the
Great Depression, has wiped away hundreds of billions of dollars in shareholder
wealth and felled banking institutions that just months ago seemed
untouchable.MetaphorThe pontiff, using a biblical metaphor, said people who
ignored the word of God to pursue wealth had effectively built their homes on
sand instead of on a solid foundation of faith. It was a possible reference to
the collapse of the US housing market, which triggered the financial crisis.
'Whoever builds his life on this reality, on material things, on success ...
builds [his house] on sand. Only the word of God is the foundation of all
reality,' he said.

[Goanet] Our Mothers are crying, Can we make a PEACE bomb instead!!!

2008-09-28 Thread mario rodrigues

OUR MOTHERS ARE CRYING!!!

The TERROR hearted men now uses tiffin boxes to shorten innocent lifes and earn
his reward from the terror boss and lives his future, scott free.
Whereas the 9 year old sweetheart boy who loved to carry tiffin boxes to school
to make his future, perishes doing an act of kindness.

9 year old sweethearts mother cries for no fault of hers nor was it the fault
of her loving child. And the mother of the terror hearted also cries for
giving birth to a sweetheart who has now turned terror man. Its always the
mothers have to suffer inspite of the 9 months pains and agony to bring them
to this world.

I am so disturbed that I don’t know what must be going through the minds of
those millions of children when they open their tiffin boxes to eat their
snacks/food during recess time. What must be going through the minds of
thousands of tiffinwallas in Mumbai who from early morning ensure that the
tiffin boxes reach the office goers offices? What must be going through the
minds of all mothers , fathers , husbands, wifes, people who make food at our
home, restaurants while they fill the tiffin boxes for their loved ones?

11 people play for India and earn millions while our army which is around
1.1million who has vowed to protect India are now making headlines because of
low pay scales. I think the management of IPL should take over the army
thereby India can dream of winning this WAR ON TERROR.

We know from below question that usually the fathers are good:
What father among you, if his son asks for bread, would give him a stone, or
if he asks for a fish, would give him a snake instead of the fish?
But sadly I now know that TERROR hearted fathers do exists in this world,
many now in India, who keeps a BOMB in a tiffin box instead of chocolates.

I feel disgusted by the facts that this explosion is termed as a mild
explosion. How can anyone make such a statement. Even if no person is hurt by
an explosion the people with concern(those whom we voted in and also those who
were voted out) should leave their selfish differences and should join hands to
ensure noone ever gets hurt. This is what our goals should be. What is
happening now because of so many blasts/crimes/attacks taking place so
frequently is that we wake up only if many people die or if there is a big
explosion or if many places of worship destroyed or many people are
burned/living in fear. God, we have become so thick skinned, people without
compassion. We are used to seeing other peoples relatives, child, friend die
not knowing that death comes like a thief and this thief might be just outside
our doors. We have to leave aside our egos, dreams, aspirations and work
towards nabbing these terror hearted before they put an end to us.

I hate those countries who invented the BOMB. It would have put an early end to
world war 2 and would have saved many lifes(American), but sadly this very bomb
has destroyed and is destroying and would continue to destroy many many more
innocent lives and can even trigger a much devastating world war III.

The BOMB the BOMBER needs to be BOMBED, peacefully. Can we make a PEACE BOMB,
instead?

Stop mega projectsMario Andrew Rodrigues, CalanguteSince the last few years, we
incessantly come across mega projects in Goa, which are leading to the
destruction of Goa’s nature, hills, fields, beaches, trees, and forests,
thereby causing a lot of inconvenience and hardships for Goans in Goa and also
to those who are overseas. Overseas Goans are surprised by these developments
when they arrive in Goa after toiling abroad. It appears that Goa is being sold
to the highest bidder, without even thinking of the consequences for Goans and
on Goa in particular. Goa cannot and should not allow concrete jungles to grow
and Goa’s natural beauty to diminish. We NRIs are concerned and worried about
such illegal developments, which we oppose very strongly. The authorities
should stop all proposed mega projects and eliminate all those under
construction, as they will only burden our tiny state of Goa.

[Goanet] Goa Su-Raj Party and Floriano

2008-09-11 Thread mario rodrigues

Eugene

Yes , what you said is right. Floriano’s roadmap leads not just to his home,
but to every home which prefers their home foundation, walls, floorings,
interiors, surroundings, windows doors, furniture and fixtures like the one
specified and to be implemented in letter and spirit in Goa Su-Raj Partys
road map and constitution( I have read it ) . And like many, those who read
it, don’t like it. Because if I accept to be part of GSRP I wont be able to
sell Goa’s Land and Culture to the highest bidder and have overseas bank
balances and transfer properties in any other name, be it family or friends ,
expect my name. You see I am legally trying to be on the right track so no
ITax, CBI can nail me.

Your friends have rightly said GSRP is nothing but an “internet” voice. Your
friends actually read everyday the facts appearing on internet and definately
know what GSRP spokesperson writes is nothing but the truth, so why to bother
if it stays at the internet level only. Yes where else can Floriano reach other
than the internet, there are forces working to ensure that he stays at home and
internet and moreover they have so many messengers and friends like you who
will never allow Floriano or the likes to surface. Because they like to do what
I mentioned in para 1.

It appears that you have high regards for Monseratte and why shouldn’t you. For
he can change his qualifications in a zippy and also swear that he is second
year BA. Thats so wonderful. Why to study when one can can avail his free
services and get a first class educational certificate if required. And if one
want a ration card for sugar, rice, wheat to make lovely street bhelpuri and
vaddas and not for delicious goan bread OR want a piece of land(whoseever it
may be) , bicycle, kinetic, saree for my wife, blanket to cover my thick strong
body I can just say Monserbab MAKA ZAI ZAI and he will come to house and give
it. This cannot be achieved from Floriano and Goa Suraj. Because if we say ZAI
ZAI to Floriano GSRP they will say TUJE BORE AHA HATH ANI PAI, TOR TUM KIDEAK
RE MOJEA DHARAR BIKEKH ELAI. Anyway why should be work and get the hard way,
when our ministers give it to us the easy way.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that Floriano used tough words like JAIL for
Manmohan Singh. You are absolutely right. Manmohan is a high regarded person,
he should never go to jail. Please excuse Floriano. As per your verdict it
appears that it is OK for thousands of people who are living in the forest
without food, clothing, water and with the fear of when they will be
attacked/killed. Its OK for you that human beings , their houses, schools,
worship places are destroyed.
Yes yes 3 cheers for all leaders who are watching this atrocities and also to
the media and to those who thinks this is not to be talked about , reported,
not to get upset/show some emotions. If they do oppose strongly to the killings
in Orissa, how will they , their organizations, their party, their target to
achieve material richness be successful.

Oh ho…. What a invention Goo-Raj Party. You know how I interpret this. A
party who has the capacity to Raj hand in hand with ALL REPSECTED GOANS and to
COMMAND on those few lot who are like Goos.

Its very difficult for one to praise GSRP, since GOO is what they will only
get. And I am happy to let you remain a friend of the current government and
oppositions to smell the lovely garbage, mapusa markets, and expose your
sweet blood to nice malaria where you can take lot of bed rest.

Further to Miguel Braganza's observations on Floriano and his Goa Su-Raj Party,
I feel the need to add that Floriano's roadmap leads to just one place -- his

convinced me that GSRP is nothing but an internet voice. When Floriano
contested against Babush, he said words to the effect that he was doing it for

PANAJI: Goan adults are far more overweight than other Indians and this is
causing a serious concern among health professionals. And when it comes to
being obese, Goan women outdo the men. The percentage of women who are
overweight or obese is 27, much higher than the all India figure of 14.8%. The
men are not far behind though, with 20.8% of Goan men being obese or
overweight, again higher than the all India percentage of 12.1. This has been
revealed by the Health Intelligence Bureau report, 2007, of the Directorate of
Health Services. The year of reference for the data is 2005-06 and it reveals
the nutritional status of adults (age 15 to 49). Obesity is a growing disease
among Goans. It is a silent killer, said Dr Digambar Naik from Vrundavan
Hospital, Mapusa. Naik added that 60% of the patients above the age of 40 who
come to the hospital are obese, with a body mass index (BMI) of more than 30.
Abdominal obesity is a problem in Goa and about one-third of the adult popul
ation is obese, said Dr Rufino Monteiro from Vintage Hospital, Panaji.

2008-06-21 Thread mario rodrigues

Dear Floriano,

I hereby openly declare that if GOA has to be saved, we need more people like
FLORIANO , moreover should I say more parties like GSRP(rather one and only
party GRSP) because Florian can well be called ONE MAN ARMY, and GSRP an ARK
like the noah's which can shelther the best of GOA, while the rest surely is
supposed to be and should be washed away with the floods of corruption. Only
then can Goa be CLEAN. Lets not waste time running around and looking for
different parties when we can FOLLOW HIM/GSRP, as this is a party with a
difference.

[Goanet] Eight Death Anniversary -- RIVER PRINCESS, Sinquerim

2008-06-05 Thread mario rodrigues

Thanks Cedrico for reminding 8th anniversary of princess. Sympathies and
condolences to our/us candolim/calangute-kars.
Fine example of how things work and is done in GOA. Its understood so clearly
that because their conscience is DEAD , they are NOT able to bury the DEAD
princess.
8 years of cover up/deliberate dilli dalling / blame games / slow actions / no
public cry from candolimkars yet (should we say MLA Agnelo has done whatever he
was to do/cando /should do/ ? Anyone got Gandhi bundles and/or car to keep the
mouth shut ?
We, well, happy mourning….is all we can say…… surely the fishes are
crying too for the polluted seas and keeping a distance thereby fisherfolks
have to go an extra mile to net them.
1st sea casino coming up? Or a tourist attraction for ever….
SOLUTION :- NOTHING if the present type of legal system/ governance continues
which allows such and only such type of things to flourish/repeat for
years……..and years. SOMETHING can be done only and only if
accountability/responsibility/public interest is put above the self interests.

Re: [Goanet] Thing that should not happen ..... happened. A first hand report

2008-06-01 Thread mario rodrigues
There are very few people in Goa whom we can count on our finger tips who go
all out FOR OTHERS to seek justice. Correct the visible wrong. And ensure
future of and for Goans is good ,secure, worth living , and on other hand
also to enjoy beautiful goas traditions when it comes to, what goans like
to, dancing and listening to music all day and night long but with
discipline and caring for our neighbours. (NOISE POLLUTION FREE- Thanks here
to Remo too for demonstrating recently at Calangute how to enjoy music)

One of them is Dear Floriano Lobo. Goans, this is not the first time he has
stepped in at the need of the hour. ( The article below on the hapenning at
Porvorim section of the NH-17 ( very close to Ashwin Garage) is one of the
incidents where he gave his time for others). Mind you tomorrow we, others,
our children might come across/pass by , may be the same place or similar
situations, and we would be glad it is safe because of one mans and I repeat
only one mans initiative courage.

For this small act( however small it might sound small to those who were not
there or who do not bother or who think there are many such incidences
happening every day in Goa) three cheers to Floriano. It is easy to talk ,
read and type from a computer and comment on such incidences. But I exactly
now how much courage it takes to reach the troubled spot, face it and above
all make all attempts to set it right by taking approiate action(which also
needs patience, time for others)

If anyone had to say 'Traffic Cops' in Goa have become 'Traffic Murderers',
there would be hardly any reaction from the listener/s. They would say This
is actually so. So what is a big deal???.

But if one had to say Traffic Cops in Goa have become the murderers of the
commuters (riders) right on the roads and Highways', they would scoff at it
and dismiss it as pure fabrication.

No, it is no fabrication. In fact this is very much true. This actually
happened at around 4.00 -4-30 p.m. at the Porvorim section of the NH-17 (
very close to Ashwin Garage).

Hema seeks special status for Goa
by RAMNATH N PAI RAIKAR
Principal Correspondent
PANAJI — Hema Sardesai, the sonorous voice of Goa, has advocated a special
status for Goa on the lines of Himachal Pradesh and said that such a status
would prevent purchase of lands in Goa by foreigners and land sharks who want
to make hay while sun shines on Goan lands.
“If required, I am ready to come on the street in support of this demand,
she added.
Concerned about Goa and its culture, the singer who is known for her
chartbuster songs like ‘Aawara bhanwre’ and ‘Badal pe paon hai’, told
‘The Navhind Times’ that whoever brings ill to Goa should be treated as the
enemy of the state even if he or she is a native Goan.
The enemy of Goa can be anyone who promotes slums in the state for developing
vote banks or otherwise, she observed, adding, “The enemies can also be those
who cut down the hills and bury the paddy field to raise concrete jungles over
them, those who run the drug and paedophiliac operations in the state,
especially in the coastal belts, and those who long for Portuguese to return to
Goa to restart the colonial rule, she stated.
If the state is given a special status, then we would be able to preserve the
unique Goan culture, and showcase it before outsiders, Hema said, predicting,
“Or else, every other culture will blend with the Goan culture and our own
culture would turn into a ‘Bhelpuri’ culture.
Taking strong objection to linking tourism with indiscriminate construction
activities ongoing in Goa, the Goan singer said that these were two different
aspects.
“Tourism has also been the backbone of other countries like Thailand but it
has not taken over these countries, she maintained, adding that tourism
generates employment for Goa.
The problem starts when the land sharks want to take advantage of the image
that has been given to Goa on the international level, Hema observed. “They
should not only be banned in this state, but the people should also interrogate
the person/ persons at the government level, who is/ are entrusted with the
task of allotting areas for construction of new houses, colonies and so on,
she pointed out.
Hema also stated that the people of Goa should be officially informed by the
government through the newspaper notices about the hill cutting and burying of
paddy fields, if such acts have been given permission on the government level.
Lamenting the gradual disappearance of the ‘Good old days’ in Goa, the
internationally acclaimed singer said that though issues like Regional Plan and
special economic zones have united the Goans, we are being hypocritical about
the unity.
“Say for example, the people agitating against the Regional Plan 2011 were
not clear as to what they wanted and what they were fighting for, with each one
of the Goa Bachao Abhiyan leaders speaking about different issue, she noted.
“The religions in Goa had something above them called Goan-ness, and the
people had a feeling that they were more Goan than being a Hindu, a Muslim or a
Christian, Hema recalled, pointing out “But that situation no more exists
as somewhere along the way, during the Marathi-Konkani agitation, the
solidarity was lost. And the communalism can now be observed even during
voting at the elections, she bemoaned.
Hema stated that the caste system, still existing somewhere deep down the
recesses of educated Goans, should be eradicated, and then and then only would
Goa vote in one voice against anything that is bad for its future.
The singer, on a parting note said that the Goans, who are themselves selling
their land only for money, with no mercy for the state, should at least think
for once before doing so, as to what the land sharks would do to this
enchanting region.

Dear Zelma,

Thank you. You said it ALL which I wanted to and even more clearly and better
what I had in my heart and could not reply to the thinking from Australian
ground. This is simply because , as you rightly said, we are living hand to
mouth here in Gulf, which many, who do not know Gulf situation ,think we are
mining GOLD. I also agree with Cedric who similarly mentioned it was difficult
to get seats.

text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 There is an old saying - *'' Only the owner
knows where the shoe bites''*and so if there are people sitting in Melbourne
and elsewhere in the world who think that the Goa - SHJ flight was probably
discontinued becuase it isn't viable for the shareholders, they are
absolutely wrong ! That flight is the only flight that the UAE had, apart
from Air India, departing from Dubai which was so well known for delays and
cancellations. I have no idea about Kuwait and the rest of the Gulf
Countries. This IC dirct Goa flight was fully booked well in advance and it
did not have to worry about cateri
ng to the Goan passengers only, as it had loads of Calicut passengers on
board as well. The Airline was surely not running a loss !! Infact if they
had an additional flight for the same route, it would be a lot much better.
Talking about Business Accumen - there are many Goans here who work hard here,
pay for a bed space and even live as married bachelors, struggling here just
to give that little extra to their families back home. Where does Business
Accumen fit in here? there is no time in this place for doing leisure things,
just work and home and back to work the next morning. Goans are simple hearted
and big hearted too - many of them. And even if one wants to start the ''
Airline - Taxi Service'' as suggested by one of the readers - that's not an
easy task - Goans living here in the UAE will agree, that setting up a
business here first and foremost requires a Local Emirati Sponsor and when so
many others are well ahead of you, and in the business for
a long time now, it is not easy at all. Besides the legal headaches in this
place where the rules change frequently, one does not know what you can expect
to read when you pick up the newspaper the following morning. Hence
sometimes it is just best if Goans work hard here, earn their living and have
their salaries in hand at the end of the month. Let the Goans - work hard here
as they do, let them earn their little money and give their families a better
life back home, everyone does not reach to build mini palaces back home in
Goa. And why are those who are of this opinion, envious and being critical???
The Goans here in the UAE have had our share of difficult times, we have
struggled too and now if we are doing a bit better in life - Goans elsewhere
should support us and say, Heh Man ! Good for you, I am happy to see you doing
well in life. Let's not pull each other down ! Let's not be envious and
critical. We are all human beings, we all need a bit of love
and support. To all the Goans in the UAE - I would say, Well Done ! keep
up the good work you are doing and keep going and if there are those who think
otherwise, leave them alone.. Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining - and if we do
not have a dirct IC flight to Goa - from Sharjah, who knows? we may be blessed
with something even better. With Sincere Regards to Every Goan in the UAE

had.(going by the experiences of the past)

And moreover sort this out ONCE AND FOR ALL.

Dear Agnelo,

There is no doubt therefore, Private airlines are growing while those who
could not increase their fleet are and have to dissappear due to their
sluggish management capabilities, beuracacies, typical government working
habits which does not improve business , nor fleet, nor do they have
favourite travellers.

Re: [Goanet] eclassifieds + Petition form - for Indian Airlines direct flight services between Goa and UAE

2008-04-22 Thread mario rodrigues

Dear Benedict,
Thanks for all the efforts to restore the Indian Airlines Flight to Goa.
However as I mentioned in my email to goanet sometime before,
I will NOT prefer IC back again as their
service/aircrafts/arrivaldeparture/basic courtesy of informing passengers
has NOT improved since ages.
It is like electing the same.. like our Goan 40 politicians and we
know what is happening to our GOA.
So I will NOT VOTE for IC, I have already decided to FLY KINGFISHER ONLY. I
am tired of INDIAN AIRLINES.

Best Regards
Mario

Dear Cynthia,

Well I hope your decision is good. But I prefer to have NOTHING in the short
term and get a good AIRLINE once and for all for long term.

changing airlines to reach a destination.

[Goanet] Direct flight between Goa and UAE

2008-04-16 Thread mario rodrigues

Dear Nelly,

I agree and understand the URGENT requirement for all GOANS in UAE for a direct
flight to Goa.
Yes we do need a direct flight. This time, however, I personally feel we
should NOT hurry and rush up and accept ANY AIRLINE. IC stopped without giving
us any clues and without intimation. Then why should we support those who do
not have the basic courtesy of warning or informing us their plans.

Why not we Goans for a change ask for good service, quality, latest aircrafts,
timely arrival and departure and associate ourselves with those who CARE for us
and those who THINK BIG rather than with those who take us Goans for a ride.

Given a preference , I will preferably NOT accept the airline which left us
stranded overnight and for today’s helpless situation. And if I do fly with
them who has their very own attitude that means I am encouraging the same
caretakers who NEVER IMPROVE the standards even after being in this industry
for 5 decades+.

Let us treat this opportunity as golden opportunity and like an election time.
ALL of GOA is already sold : left, right , top, bottom by these
(Whatever name you call them). We keep electing the same
.. and then cry later on. What is the use of trying to conduct post
mortens, when we read nowadays that during post mortens there are chances of
parts disappearing.
I feel Goans in UAE should make a CLEAR request and ask for the BEST. Are we
Goans not worth the BEST. SO, now given a choice lets go with the best and
those who would care for us in the long run. Lets go for long term rather than
short term requirements. Lets suffer now and overcome this suffering once and
for all. Offcourse we should make sure we travel by this new appointed GOOD
AND RELIABLE airline so that they also grow in business. I vote for
KINGFISHER. For other Goans who think the same say YES. For those who do not
accept my preference, Its OK, I respect your decision and your right to choose
the best airline as per your thinking cap. Sir Vijay are you listenning. I am
sure you will hold discussions uprightly with those in authority to award a
fare deal to goans and ask them to discuss clean ON THE TABLE and NOT by any
other means.

Wake up Goans, show your class sometimes and when the opportunity arises. What
cant we be a bit choosy, a bit demanding, a bit straightforward, show a bit of
genuine desire for the PARADISE type feeling which actually used to exist in
GOA for GOANS.

PS -
FLORIANO - I called the chairman of Goan Association and he informed they are
NOT active for long time. So your request to us to get a letter from UAE to
help you push NRI desk (Mr. Edward) appears not possible.
CHAIRMAN - KING FISHER - As per my various personal communications with
yourself, I am pleased to mark cc of above for your kind and early action. We
appreciate your genuine desire to resolve this matter for Goans.

Best Regards

(Lookout for a Dubai-Goa flight) To: Goanet [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message-ID:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed;
charset=iso-8859-1; reply-type=original According to me, any airline will
do. All what most of us would want is a direct flight to Goa. Ask me how
difficult it was for me to travel Goa-Dubai via Mumbai. I went down for a
short holiday mid March (a fortnight). The IC flight Sharjah-Goa direct was
excellent timing although I had a lost baggage (result of carelessness with
most airlines). I reconfirmed my return ticket on 26th March and I was pretty
surprised nobody informed me at that point of time that the flights have been
re-routed through Mumbai from 29th onwards. It was just two days prior from my
travel that the airline staff calls and says the flight
is cancelled.. isn't this funny?..and I need to have a fresh booking done.
Secondly, the airline promised us that they would assist us in the airport
transfer from domestic to In'tl and food would also be provided.
Unsurprisingly nothing like this happened. Even their porters who were just
lending a helping had came up saying `Madam, chai ke liye kuch de do'. I was
travelling alone with my 7 year and 1 year old baby. The airport was
overcrowded as usual, no proper seating arrangement, flies all around, A/cs
were on but no proper cooling, kids getting restless, baggage to be taken care
of (since connecting flight check in was only 5 hours later) and so on. It
took me over 12 hours to reach my destination. Considering this, flying to Goa
without a direct flight is like a nightmare. Hope some airlines considers this
urgently atleast for the sake of families and our older parents who often
visit their children out here. N, DXB.

[Goanet] Golden , Beautiful Goa

2008-04-14 Thread mario rodrigues

GOANSWhile reflecting on below article of Fr. Jude, I wanted to ask myself and
all GOANS Can we develop similar attitude/approach to find back GOLDEN ,
BEAUTIFUL GOA and while we do that, its about time we throw away/get rid all
the dirt which has settle down in and around Goa , due to which GOA stinks for
quite some time now. Lets look and preserve the GOLDEN NATURE as per Gods
creation in Goa. Let not allow anyone to destroy Goa. Remo is already doing
his part, as seen from his recent concert near Lobos,Calangute.
Greenpeace study about Goa has claimed that state's prime beaches including
Majorda, Vagator, Anjuna, Baga, Calangute along with parts of capital city of
Panaji, Fort Aguada and Mapusa are under threat.
Look For The Gold (From Fr. Jude Botelho's 5th Sunday reflections)
At one time Andrew Carnegie was the wealthiest man in America. At one time he
had forty-three millionaires working for him. One day a reporter asked Carnegie
how it was that he hired these forty-three millionaires. Carnegie responded
that the men had not been millionaires when they started working for him, but
had become millionaires only as a result. The reporter's next question was,
Well, how did you develop these men to become so valuable to you that you paid
them that much money? Carnegie replied that people develop the same way that
gold is mined. When gold is mined, several tons of dirt and stone must be
removed first to get an ounce of gold, but one doesn't go into the mine looking
for dirt -one goes in looking for gold. That's exactly the way managers need to
view people. Don't look for the flaws, warts and blemishes. Look for the gold,
not the dirt; the good, not the bad. Look for the positive aspects of life;
like everything else. The more good qualities we look fo
r in people, the more we are going to find.+
