[Goanet] Help Me Make It....

2022-05-16 Thread Roland Francis
An absolutely delightful version of an old country song composed by Kris
Kristofferson and made famous by Sammi Smith way back in a 1970 recording,
followed by many famous singers including Elvis Presley, Indian Navy retired
Rear Admiral Nirmala Kannan adds her strong and clear no-nonsense voice with
her clean good looks, to make the ballad a pleasure to hear.

2021-08-10 Thread Eddie D'Sa

Dear Filo & George,
Warm thanks, Filo, for understanding my viewpoint and explaining yours.
I am well aware that you & George have worked hard to elevate Fr Vaz to
sainthood - whatever that means in the Euro scheme of things.
You both went all the way to the Vatican to plead with the pompous
white clerics to promote Vaz's cause but didn't get far enough.
For the white guys in authority want first & foremost to assert their
authority; the notion of humility & accommodation is alien to them.
Did they care to learn Vaz's history, appreciate his toils in the
colonial context & the Hindu-Buddhist culture of the region?
File & George were regarded as mere supplicants and brown ones at
that.

I'd like to comment here with fundamentals. Does the notion of
sainthood have any intrinsic meaning?
The holy white guys of Europe decided at some point that those
individual Catholics who have in their adult life conformed to the
rules of 'holiness' laid down by certain whites in authority need to be
formally recognised as Saints. And a certain legal process was set up to
this end. Curiously, the guys deciding on the merits of a candidate need
not be themselves saints. They claimed that a heavenly fellow called the
Holy Ghost guides them in their deliberations.
Brown persons were reluctantly accepted as candidates for sainthood
but they must be subject to the rules of the holy white guys in Rome.

So, Filo & George, Vaz was finally allowed to be a Saint by the
Vatican. So what has he since done to make his presence felt and to help
his Goan followers? Nothing, it seems. Where can he be contacted?
And what's the point of promoting him to Patron Saint - a title
invented by the holy whites of Rome?

Is there an assurance that he will be more helpful as Patron?

Let's be honest: how many Catholics believe in & bother with saints?
Indeed, how many care for this ritual called the Mass? The Whites tell
us that Christ instituted the Mass.

Did he? It's far from clear.
And in any case, how has Mass helped? Are Catholics likely to get more
holy as a result of Mass attendance??

Then there is this thing called Eucharist or Communion.
They are receiving the body & blood of Christ. They should be
transformed.

Seems more like a Vampire ritual.

The priests & Bishops are supposed to celebrate Mass daily & receive the
Eucharist. So what is the record of their behaviour?

Many have succumbed to sex abuse.
Ex-cardinal Theodore McCarrick: He becomes the first U.S. cardinal and
only the second U.S. bishop to be criminally charged with child sexual
abuse. In addition to his alleged abuse of seminarians and priests, the
ex-cardinal is accused of sexually abusing at least 13 children. See our
detailed summary of the McCarrick case below.

===
As of July 2021, BishopAccountability.org has identified 86 Catholic
bishops worldwide accused publicly of sexual crimes against children and
42 Catholic bishops worldwide who have been accused publicly of sexual
wrongdoing against adults only. The names of those accused of abusing
minors are marked in red; those with names in black are accused of
sexual abuse/sexual misconduct with individuals age 18 or older only.

Filo in her email commented:
"Where are the "Browns and Blacks" like Eddie? Do they raise money,
send Petitions and sign Petitions, and support prizes and competitions
as paths to recognition and for preservation of the memory of those who
gave extraordinary service for mankind?
Why don't they make Saints and Patron Saints, give Nobel Prizes and
Pulitzer Prizes, have the Olympics, and other honors and competitions?"

Please, Filo, forget about Saints, petitions and such.
I'd like to suggest that you CONSIDER AN EDITORIAL JOB AT NCR, the
premier Catholic weekly in the US and run by lily white Editors.
I had asked the Chief Editor Heidi Schlumpf to recruit some Brown or
Black. She did vaguely said she would but nothing happened. And I have
tweeted a number of times.
I'd like to take my suggestion further. I will write to NCR and ask them
them that you are a well qualified candidate who has done doctoral
studies including Theology.

Please agree to consider the position. Thereafter, I'll write to NCR .

To me as a Rationalist and Godless Goan the two sides of the José Vaz argument
should be irrelevant.

I agree with both sides. That the contribution of Browns and Blacks to the
Catholic Church have been totally ignored even in this age when the whites are
outnumbered but not outgunned in Church affairs.

On the other hand I support the efforts of Filomena, her sister, George and the
countless nameless people who have made the Catholic Church acknowledge that
there were many of the other colour who though have sacrificed much, have been
acknowledged little, except in the hearts of their own faithful.

When George posted, without a second thought I rushed to add my name to the
petition. With Filomena’s post I am glad I did.

She told my thinking side it was not about victimhood of which I have seen a
lot in North America, but about doing something about it.

And what did these Euro migrants do when they encountered the Natives

They systematically slaughtered them, children and all - this is all

Pope Francis should publicly tell us about the origins of Argentina and

For that matter, the US Anglos slaughtered some 50 million of the US
Natives and then grabbed the entire land & turned it into Europe 2.
Please read the book "The New Age of Empire" by Prof K Andrews (2021) to

They are the National Catholic Reporter, a US weekly and the Tablet, UK

For both, Catholic means white and mostly IRISH.
I have requested the Editors to recognise black and brown Catholics and

The Tablet even calls itself an "International Catholic Weekly" - there

Please sign our Petition to H.H. Pope Francis to make Goan Saint Joseph Vaz the
"Patron Saint of First Responders". The Petition is at this link
https://josephnaikvaz.org/  Please forward to your contacts and social media.

Brief background on St. Joseph Naik Vaz  and the Petition ...

St. Joseph Naik Vaz, Son of India (Goa), Apostle of Kanara and Sri Lanka, is
fully worthy of being made a “Patron Saint” of at least one of the many
contributions he made to the Catholic Church and to humanity.

For his extraordinary achievements see: "Life of St. Joseph Vaz" on Amazon
Kindle: https://tinyurl.com/JosephVaz

Many of his fellow Goans. as well as devoted Mangaloreans and Sri Lankans,
signed the various Petitions we sent to the Popes and the Sacred Congregation
for the Causes of the Saints for the Beatification and Canonization of St.
Joseph Vaz, since our inception in 1978.

As the Postulator for his Canonization, Fr. Thomas Klosterkamp, O.M.I., said in
2014, the evidence of devotion and Signatures we collected from the Catholic
lay admirers and devotees of St. Joseph Vaz convinced the Pope and the Sacred
Congregation for the Saints to make him an official SAINT of the Catholic
Church, a long three hundred and ten years after his Cause was started in 1713!

Right now, an Italian teenager, Carlo Acuti, who has not been even canonized,
has already been selected for Patron Saint of the Internet. The Cause of an
American Chaplain, Fr. Emil Kapaun, who was killed in Communist North Korea is
being started.  Even before he has been declared a Venerable, there is already
a movement to have him declared a “Patron Saint” of military Chaplains. We need
to have people of color represented too and included in the honors of the
church, not just Westerners and white-Europeans.

Even though so many non-European Catholics are suffering persecution and
religious hostility like St. Joseph Vaz did for the sake of the Gospel, they
are not chosen as Patron Saints as models of compassion and Christian love to
the world.  In the last 500 years since western Christianity was taken under
colonial conquest to the New World, Africa, and Asia, the Vatican has made only
one non-European SAINT a “Patron Saint.”  This was St. Tekawitha, a Native
American of Canada and the U.S.

Our Joseph Naik Vaz Institute has sent a Petition to H.H. Pope Francis to have
St. Joseph Naik Vaz made Patron Saint of First Responders because of his work
of taking care of victims of deadly infectious smallpox in 17th century Kandy,
and, most importantly, as a model of heroic service in our own Covid times.

[Goanet] HELP DESKS - For families of COVID DECEASED

2021-05-18 Thread gonsalvesgodfre...@yahoo.in

The pandemic began on 30th  Jan 2020 with  many deaths, in the country . Goa is
no  exception to date. The mental trauma and agonycaused on  losing a bread
winner needsimmediate redressal lest they fall prey to middleman.  Providing  a
solatium atleast for a brief period of sixmonths to the bereaved members of the
family either in cash or kind or both isthe need of the hour.

This writer has a vast experienceof attending to such unfortunate cases gratis
. It begins with obtaining a clinicalcause of death certificate from the health
centre / hospital and a deathcertificate from the o/o Civil cum sub registrar
Many die intestate without makinga will. Then begins the process of  Deedof
succession etc  If there  is no valid nomination the financial
institutions, banks, life insurance companies will not allow withdrawal of funds
of thedeceased lying with them neither they would accept the installment  of
loans if any on behalf of the deceased.  Transfer of vehicles owned by the
deceased aresome of the areas. Therefore all life comes to a stand still.

To add to these normalrequirements the real hitch is the certificate of
divergency for name/sinappropriately spelt mostly by the dealing hands in the
government, nonavailability of birth certificates on the pretext that the same
are destroyedby none other than the government institutions who have an army of
paidemployees responsible for the maintenance handling and upkeep of
thesedocuments.

The legal fraternity is oftenfound to be unscrupulous in this regard.  It
invariably puts the burden on their clients to attend to the nitty gritty
ofobtaining these documents, but  fordrafting a mere affidavit, etc or
notorising a document  charge well  beyond the prescribed limit. While adopting
acut and paste exercise of standard drafts  readily available, for the mistakes
thatcreeps in the  blame is put on theunderpaid clerk  working under them.

Assuming but not admitting thattime is the essence for a legal practitioner to
charge fees to add insult toinjury they do  not provide receipts formonies
received which is in total violation of Income tax rules.

One way of assisting the familiesof the deceased COVID 19 victims, or
othersimilar victims, would be that the present ruling dispensation should
think ofan out of the box solution to this problem.

Create HELP DESK initially for atleast an year  with dedicated staff
directlyunder the supervision and control of the Head of Department to ensure
thatdocuments viz birth, marriage, death, divergency,  Deed of succession etc
are dealt with on toppriority.  The respective MLAs shouldensure that they have
staff to assist such families and Panchayats andmunicipal bodies  too create
such HELPDESKS

Rewarding those that provideexemplary services would not be out of tune. As it
is the Government has designated most of the staff in governmentservice as
‘frontline’ worker  thoughthis appears to my mind a misnomer in comparison to
those at the ground leveldirectly dealing with the affected persons.

The Courts could also appointretired  judges on contract to attend to
inventoryproceedings on a day to day basis; as it was done in the past to tide
over theback log.

The Minister for Law andJudiciary , Urban Development and Panchayat could
co-ordinate efforts in thisdirection and lead the nation to follow suit.

2020-10-30 Thread Roland Francis
Hi Egas, with the excuse of Covid-19, food prices and restaurant menus have
gone up by 40 to 50%.

The bag of fine basmati rice you refer to, sells for between C$18 to 20 in
Toronto which far exceeds the currency difference.

2020-10-30 Thread E DeSousa
Dear Melvyn Fernandes:

I saw your request for assistance on Goanet indicating you are looking for data
for a  rice price index.

First of all, just in case you do not already know this, there is  Statista.com
who have  compiled a monthly  rice price index and made it available online.
You could find it at this link:

 https://www.statista.com/statistics/255966/monthly-price-index-for-rice/
There may be local fluctuations in the price but the price of a  commodity like
rice is generally well established.
Secondly you could look up the retail/ bulk  price of rice on Amazon.com .You
are sure to get excellent actionable results covering a wide variety of rice
grains. As an interesting side note you could look up the prices of rice on
Amazon.In

Lastly, from personal experience I noticed while shopping at a local store last
week, a ten pound bag of fine authentic aromatic Indian basmati rice priced at
about $10.

Hope this helps.
Best Regards,

Help me understand and Compile the RPI (Rice Price Index0

Over forty years ago, as a teenager, I travelled through Coffee, Tea and
Tobacco Plantations in Kenya, the aroma still lives with me.Long school
holidays were spent in the Paddy Fields of Calangute, Goa tilling the land with
“Hirpola” our water buffalo and growing vegetable crops. I recall taking
part in the first sponsored walk organised by the Kenya National Freedom from
Hunger before having to suddenly leave the country along with others due to the
Africanisation of the Employment of our Parents, that’s another story, that
initiated the migration and settlement of fellow East African Goans to
different parts of the world.

While looking for a job in the City of London (1974), I came across a grand
building called Plantation House, that gave me pause for thought as it was from
here that the price of sugar, rice, coffee, tea was governed across the world,
even though Great Britain did not grow any of these commodities (there is a
little Britain in France hence the name Great Britain). The Price of Oil was
governed by the Rotterdam Spot Market. GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and RPI
(Retail Price Index) is governed by all of us regulated by Government.

Covid 19 brought disruption to everyday life as the virus travelled around the
world crossing National boundaries visa free. In Goa, migrant workers were
caught out without food and money due to no employment and suddenly realised
they were better off in their own state rather than mass suicides from Mandovi
Bridge.

Recently, I have come to realise that the Goa State Government bends over
backwards to look after its citizens like arranging for the basics of life like
food on the table and fuel to cook it with. This is in the form of Benefit
the “not talked much about” Ration Card which every citizen is entitled
regardless of income.

My understanding is that there are three types of Ration Cards, Below Poverty
Line, Above Poverty Line and Another One, Colour Coded, and depending on your
income one of these is given to each adult in the home. On all cards you are
entitled to purchase your everyday essentials for life at at subsidised rate
set by the Goa State Government. The rate for each Ration Colour Card is
different. Essential supplies include rice, wheat, sugar, cooking oil,
cooking gas, and vegetables such as onions,(no need to ne tearful) carrots,
bhendis, etc. For detailed information of these cards, click on links below:

https://www.indiafilings.com/learn/goa-ration-card/

http://goacivilsupplies.gov.in/

The Goa Government has or will be in the process of introducing fingerprinting
and should go a long way to prevent abuse of this valuable Ration card
circulating specially by those who have chosen to leave Goa and not returned
their Ration Card to the Government.

This will be a good move and prevent Ration cards left behind by Goan people to
stop rice being purchased at a subsided price of INR 8.00 a Kilo and sold to
hard working migrants at INR 18.00 a kilo still cheaper than the shop price,
nourishing the Black economy.

This is a good opportunity to remind our fellow Goykars in the United Kingdom
about a Public statement made recently by the Goan Association UK on a Zoom
Webinar and the O Heraldo that the organisation had handed out six thousand
food parcels to needy Goykars in the United Kingdom. Such level of activity
and volunteer effort should have attracted mention on the Queens Birthday
honours list which gave praise to other groups and individuals involved in
helping needy in the United Kingdom ; this was not the case. From a personal
point of view, and I know of a lot of Goykars in the United Kingdom, I know of
no one who has received any of these food parcels or has written publically of
receiving assistance with food.

Lawndon kars Goans do not waste food and if you need assistance, contact phone
numbers on website GOAUK.COM are available - you do not need to be a
member, have a Ration Card Passport or Visa holder.

What next free mango Solam energy ?

[Goanet] Help Me Understand Kashmir.

2019-02-28 Thread Roland Francis
I know the history of Kashmir though I cannot fathom what’s behind the current
problems.

Please enlighten me with answers to the following connected questions.

1. The Kashmiris want a country independent of India and Pakistan. Why can’t
they get it?

2. There are no problems with Kashmiris living in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
Why are they having problems only on the Indian side.

3. Is it because India has a bad history with the minorities and they cannot
trust it.

4. Why cannot there be a single referendum that includes both sides? And then
deal with the results as a democracy would.

5. Will India always be in a position of having to maintain an occupying force
to subdue the local populace.

6. If India believes that Kashmir is an integral part of Indian territory, why
do special conditions apply there and why does the Indian Govt not open the
doors to all Indians to live there like they did to Goa?

7. The only bone of contention between India and Pakistan is Kashmir. Will the
country not progress much more speedily unburdened with an arms race.

8. Why not submit to binding arbitration decided upon by a panel of countries
that both trust.

9. Isn’t India being unnecessarily strident with both its northern neighbours
Pakistan and China to its own detriment?

Roland.

Dear Gabe,

I hear you. 7 lakhs is a lot.

Security and safe mean different things to people I know, not to mention
varying degrees of confusion/bewilderment/perplexity. Many more and more
feel a sense of being abandoned, by events all engineered by crass
individuals, parties and systems, all of which have cast a smog on our
minds eye.

I recollect a piece years ago titled Unforsaken, reflecting upon II
Corinthians 4: 8:10. It appeared in the 1990 Amnesty International
calendar; and alludes to many things, including prisoners of conscience.
Primarily its a quiet reminder about holding on to the belief that one is
not alone.

I have barked a lot up that tree with my own, but have now stepped back.
Anyway, these are more of a face-to-face conversations. Perhaps, at some
point I may take a shot at writing a small essay on the relationship/s
between security and the idea of/ behind feeling safe.

Thank you,

 Dear Venatius,

Well said, I have no qualms, my own parents travelled from Goa and Bombay

I find the figure quoted of 7 lacs processed by one agent as incredulous
that would be a huge population of Goans, Damanese and the people of Diu. I
cannot dispute the figures quoted but it is shocking if people are taking
on Portuguese Passports for the sake of security - they don't feel safe in
 India...how sad.

Equally sad is the Doctor who wrote that she obtained a Portuguese
Passport, I am not sure that Indian qualifications are recognised in the
EEC, further studies and examinations would have to take place.

No one knows the exact number of Goans in Swindon, perhaps, 40K.

 The Peninsula - 3rd February 2003

DOHA: The Goan Overseas Association (GOA), an organisation of Goan
expatriates in Qatar, is offering assistance to people of Goan origin
 seeking Portuguese citizenship.

The association will soon organise a presentation in Doha on the
procedures and formalities of applying for citizenship, its president
 Simon D'Silva said yesterday.

Any person who was born in Goa before 1961 is eligible for Portuguese
citizenship, as well as those who had a parent of grandparent born in Goa
 during the same period.

This was a special privilege granted by the Portuguese exclusively for
people of Goan origin when they left India, Simon said.

Thousands of Goans have applied and obtained Portuguese passports and are
now settled in Europe, mostly in the UK, France and Germany, he added.

There are agencies in Goa which are operating legally to help interested
people apply for the citizenship. The Goan Overseas Association has
approached one such agency, which has agreed to assist Goans from Qatar
to obtain the necessary papers for a nominal fee, Simon said.

He clarified that a Portuguese passport was not a necessary pre-condition
 for procuring citizenship.

A birth certificate of the applicant (if he/she was born before 1961) or
the parent or grandparent would suffice along with other required
documents, the details of which are available at the website
 geocities.com/Paulocd/PortNatLaw.htm.

Portugal allows dual nationality and according to Portuguese law, a
citizen can keep his second and other nationalities.

The only restriction is that the person can not claim Portuguese
protection in the country of the other nationality, Simon said.

However, it is not clear whether a person of Goan origin can retain
Indian citizenship after he/she acquires Portuguese nationality.

As a general rule, India does not allow dual citizenship. Indian embassy
sources, when contacted yesterday, could not provide any further
 information in this regard.

Simon said the presentation will be held soon after the Eid Al Adha
 holidays.

Further details can be had from Simon (5550491) or John Desa (4425239/

[Goanet] Help me, I'm confused!

2015-07-01 Thread Joao Barros-Pereira
Help me, I'm confused!

With development coming into Goa in a big way it is confusing to say the
least!

The government proposes Yoga for physical, mental and development of
spiritual health but in the span of two weeks it is reported that there are
two ministers who have dubious academic degrees. The Deputy Chief Minister
who is a lawyer is of the opinion the issue is a moral one and not legal.
Isn't morality important prior to an election? Which politician has ever
said it is irrevelent prior to an election? I'm confused, please help me.

In India we have a tradition which is laughable but shows the honesty of
the failed graduate when s/he writes SSC Failed or BSc Failed. Why didn't
the two ministers follow this hallowed tradition? Every time there is a
fishy situation are we going to blame the typists?

Owners of big projects claim they have all the legal permissions. However,
we now need to ask if the the legal permission has been obtained
fraudantly? Can we promote yoga and immorality at the same time?

Please help me, as I'm too dumb to understand what is going on in Goa.

[Goanet] Help turn off the black money tap. Pl sigh spread the word

2015-02-12 Thread Robin Viegas
From: bcsabha.kal...@gmail.com

Dear friends across India,

Delhi has just given a smashing victory to an anti-corruption party opening up
a rare opportunity to turn off the tap of dirty money corrupting Indian
democracy. Let’s use the moment to make it happen!

Nearly 75% of all major
political parties’ income is from undeclared sources -- a major funnel for
black money. These parties claim most of their donations are under 20,000
rupees which doesn’t require them to maintain any records.

That's no longer good enough.

The BJP government, still shaken by the Delhi election rout, recognises that
the voters’ mood has changed and transparency is non-negotiable. Let’s push for
all contributions big or small to be publicly reported by ALL parties.

This could be a game changer for Indian democracy. When we reach 500,000
signatures, we'll work with Indian citizen volunteers to deliver the call to
the government and heads of all parties. Act now and tell everyone to join:

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/root_out_black_money_from_indian_politics/?tta

Political parties exploit a legal loophole that requires them to only disclose
contributions over 20,000 rupees, but any amount can be broken down to Rs.
19,999 chunks -- which then disappear into their coffers -- untaxed,
unaccounted. Enormous sums are vanishing this way -- the last parliamentary and
state assembly elections cost over 30,000 crore rupees -- making it the
second-most expensive in world history!

Income tax authorities want to investigate AAP, Congress and 50 other entities
for allegedly taking money from “dubious” sources. But they found out about
this only because AAP lists all its donations on its website, unlike other
parties. Between 2004-2011 the Congress had a staggering 1,950 crores from
unknown sources and the BJP over 950 crores! But no one is investigating the
BJP.

Major parties do not want their skeletons tumbling out -- but they’re feeling
the heat after the Delhi elections. This is why we must act now. Let’s make
black money in Indian politics an issue no party can run away from and demand
all donations
are recorded and available publicly. Sign and share this widely:

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/root_out_black_money_from_indian_politics/?tta

Our community has challenged government and corporate corruption across the
world -- from fraud in the banking sector in the UK to pushing for greater
transparency in legislation in Brazil. Election financing lies at the core of
corruption in all major democracies like India, UK, US and elsewhere.
People-power can change that.

With hope and determination,
Ricken, Luis, Emma, Alex, Risalat and the entire Avaaz team

[Goanet] Help a Poor Child - Which of these foods have you tasted yet?

Dear fellow goanet readers

In Message 9, Goanet digest vol 6, issue 932, George Pinto wrote:

In a Goan slum today, a little homeless street girl said she only has eaten
chappati and dal in her life, and that too occasionally, sometimes not at the

said she cannot relate to Frederick's list of middle and upper-class food
values and categories below. So her category would be the last one (Other) as

Her specific question was are these the issues cyber-Goans care about when we
are starving to death?.

Response:
In case George Pinto and other goanet readers are not aware about the many
campaigns being run within our community in the United Kingdom they may have
missed the ''Help a Poor Child'' charity set up some years ago to eradicate the
plight of people like this homeless street girl and others like him or her.
Details of this
United Kingdom registered charity can be found on www.helpapoorchild.com

Also for information in Candolim there is an organisation that feeds and
educates street children, details can be obtained from the Panchayat office who
may be able
to give you information to pass on to these children. Also check with Heraldo
and Navhind Times who may be able to assist you in this matter.

Maybe our people living in other countries can enlighten us of the work they
are also doing.

With Goa's increasing wealth, no one needs to starving there! No more sob

I think every migrant should be given a ration card and an electoral photo
identity card especially if they are poor, sick or uneducated. Such people
need
help. We need to reach out to them. The disadvantaged are the salt of the

Kindness and sympathy should not be done at the cost of others. It is the same
as the organisations who are animal lovers and human haters, who will protect a
stray animal rather than a human. Flavia Sequeira, the writer of the letter
would do great justice to the rest of Goa and Goans and also great service to

Abstracts from the headline news report [TOI- 19.02.2010] - by Mohua
Chatterjee/TNN

1. BJP's new chief Nitin Gadkari on Thursday made an effort to reach out to
Muslims, telling his colleagues that the party needed to diversify its base
to overcome the support deficit it has vis-a-vis the Congress.

Comments: Made an effort to reach out to Muslims? Because the BJP is
consigned to the role of the opposition indefinately? How honourable of
these skunks [This, by no means, gives a clean certificate to the Congress
either. These are the worst skunks ever having been headed by the biggest
skunk Narashima Rao who made it happen i.e. demolition of the Babri Masjid]

2. He appealed to Muslims to help with construction of the temple since it
was hamari aatma and went to the extent of saying that the party had no
problem if a mosque came up nearby.

Comments: Hamari Aatma eh?? Babri Masjid was not the Aatma of the
Muslims? And now you guys are magnanimous to say that you will tolerate a
mosque nearby? Why couldn't you build a Ram temple near the Babri Masjid and
be satisfied in the first place?

3. Today, I appeal to the Muslim community to be generous towards the
sentiments and feelings of Hindus and facilitate the construction of the
grand Ram temple. This would herald a new amity and reinforce the bond for a
resurgent India.

Comments: Oh! You want the Muslims to be generous now, is it? Your Atal
Behari Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani , Murli Manohar Joshi and the rabble
rouser Uma Bharti and others like Kalyan Singh were not at all generous to
the Muslims and towards the Babri Masjid. You want amity, reinforced bond
and resurgent India on your own terms? Muslims of India will be wise to
demand persecution of the above named leaders on the basis of the Liberhan
Commission report before and/or if at all they want to relent. Amity,
reinforced bond, resurgent India my foot. These guys are now running with
their tails between their legs but still want to have the cake and eat it
too. It must not happen and I hope for India's sake, it does not happen.

THE WORLD

Goans and Friends of Goa.,

Eddie has very rightly given the Musequality World Busk wide publicity. By
doing so, Eddie has given
Goans and Friends of Goa an opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause.
Musequality is raising funds
for a music education project for disadvantaged children in Goa and has
invited Goans to take part by
busking or by making a donation. Their busking proceeds and donations will go
straight to the project
in Goa. Make a donation: http://www.justgiving.com/goansformusequality
Our first donation has come from Goan Voice Uk !

I would like to encourage every Goan musician wherever he/she may be to join in
and help Musequality
set a WORLD RECORD FOR THE BIGGEST COORDINATED BUSK AROUND THE WORLD

Let’s JUST DO IT! - TOGETHER we CAN - GOANsCAN !

At 12 noon your time prompt on Sunday, 14 June!

If we are to help them set a world record for the biggest coordinated busk
around the world, we’ll need buskers to:
busk – playing instruments and/or singing - at 12 noon your time and for at
least 25 minutes. To be sure we set a
world record, we are asking buskers to start busking a little earlier than
noon and to finish a little later than 12.25pm.
You can, of course, busk for longer but everyone taking part in the record
attempt must be busking at noon and keep
busking until 12.25pm. Read more about it on the Musequality World Busk
website:

Mervyn,

1) Here is the connection between Khapris and wildlife:
Game Wardens, Forest Rangers, Wildlife Sanctuary Officers and other
people involved with protection of wildlife in Africa do their job
diligently. They understand that nature is closely linked with human
habitation on this planet and they are essential to our survival. An
understanding that seems lacking in some of their Indian counterparts.

Dear Goanetters, WildGoans,

Please let us know if you come across any cribs housing protected
animals like pythons, crocodiles, mongoose, palm civets etc... For the
past three years we at WildGoa have been trying to put an end to this
menace. Animals housed in tiny cages, dehydarated, and exposed to the
elements, fed icecream biscuts and someitmes slaughtered after the
crib is finished.

WildGoa's track record of stopping such cribs has been rather
unsuccessful mainly because of lack of awareness by general public,
apathy by the forest department, tip offs by the forest department
staff, goons threatening us and other reasons too..

This year, at one of the cribs located in South Goa, a python is caged.
What's worse is that this crib is awarded by the Cultural committee in
Kala Academy. The crib is also monitored around the clock by
troublemaker youth of the village, so taking pictures of the violation
is difficult. However, as I could not get in touch with the DCF of the
Forest Department, I went over to the office yesterday morning and
personally handed over a letter describing the python's situation, and
the location of this very same crib to Mr. Kamu Prakash. The Assistant
Conservator of Forests promised to help me, but its 24 hours since I've
lodged the complaint and I've been informed that the raid has still not
happened.

In such situations, lethargy of the department causes these offenders to
get away. In previous instances, people have tipped the offenders
moments before the raid and so the animals disappear. Therefore, when
reporting such instances, please be discreet, until the raid is finished.

If you would like to help, you can put some pressure on the forest
department. Call on ACF Mr. Kamu Prakash at 2229701 and ask him about
the status of the python kept in captivity in a south Goa crib. You can
also call ACF Mr. Pradeep Vernekar at 2228772 and let him know that its
been 10 days since the python is in captivity and that swift action is
needed.

Please let me know that you have spoken to any of these people for my
records. I shall let everybody know of the animals status, and location
of the crib once the raid is over hopefully today or tomorrow.

Thanks!

Dear Goanetters in the US Canada,

While at Greenpeace Sweden, I came across a guy that pointed me to

composting bins that are small enough to be used in apartments. Some
models actually fit into the kitchen cabinets! Prices from 200 - 400
USD, It's rather steep, but I can't help wondering if they are popular
there?

Can anybody find out some more about this product? If it's found to be
great, I would not mind buying the cheapest model 199+15$ that comes to
about Rs.10,000/- to try out here and see if we can make cheaper models
that work on the same principle.

[Goanet] help xtian victims of 26/11 urgently

2008-12-09 Thread john fernandes

Sir,

The surprise is of Bombay Catholic Sabha President, giving interviews in Times
of India of 9th December, 2008, putting pressure on government not to take
action against terrorists. This is sending a wrong message to all youth,
including, christian youth.

Is not the President of Bombay Catholic Sabha aware, that young innocent
Christians were begging of the terrorists on 26/11, at Taj and Oberoi, to spare
their lives, but terrorists showed no mercy and shot them dead.

The President of Bombay Catholic Sabha and Priest have neither visited the
homes, nor offered condolence, sympathy, money to injured or dead christians in
the attack by terrorists on 26/11 in Mumbai, it is probably because they are
not from rich, well-known, christian families.

Although the President and his family members and all members of the Bombay
catholic Sabha and their families did not suffer at the hands of terrorists on
26/11, it is shocking to know that neither President of Bombay Catholic Sabha,
nor any of the Chairmen of Bombay catholic Sabha Church units or any Priest,
has bothered to offer Mass, in any Church in Mumbai, for the dead christians
in the 26/11 attacks.

My urgently request is for Bombay catholic Sabha and each one of their members
to please let the government do the job of catching the terrorists, otherwise
Bombay catholic sabha is giving wrong message to terrorists.

Please immediately Bombay catholic sabha should offer Mass for the dead and
injured christians, as well as financial help to all christian families who
lost their children, and family members in the recent 26/11 attacks, instead of
hand-holding on the roads of Mumbai.

I wonder whether Goanetters can help us to
finalize the genealogy of our family.

We have a Chart of 10 generations starting with 1900s
and going back to M, born between 1710 and 1720.

We need to take the line to 1600 and discover the names of
M's ancestors.

We are seeking the services of a knowledgeable person to

[Goanet] help needed

2008-08-28 Thread els verwimp
Hi all,

I am reading some old poems written by my mum when she lived in Rangoon in the
1940's. Unfortunately her health is fastly going downwards suffering from a
severe bloodcancer. Digging in her past (Burma, Karachi and Belgium) is one way
to cherish this special, loving mother.

Maymyo memories

somewhere mother writes: Lame Lame Ma Kyi Le

can someone tell me what it means??

Thanks a lot.

My mother had published many poems and prayers in the Catholic (or was it
Christian?) Voice in Burma and later after fleeing to Karachi in the their
'Voice'. We are trying to put them all together rather chronologically. If
anyone would be interested in some of her writings, just drop a line.

All the best,

thanks in advance

[Goanet] Help to St.Bridget' school -appeal by Satira

2008-08-26 Thread Albert Desouza

Albert writes: I cannot understand why Caritas de Goa is so reluctant to help
the poor and this aid to St.Bridget school should come from Caritas. They are
wasting our money. They have spent crores of rupees in building a home for aids
patients in Cavelosim in which I am told nine or ten foreigners are housed. The
caritas has spent nearly a crore in repairing their house in Panjim. Every year
all the churches in Goa are sending one sunday collection which amounts to
lakhs of rupees.

Dear Fred:

and you need at least 3 shelf fillers from UAE to
blame RSS and savarkar and narendra modi and parrikar
for breaking down the old lady's house

one vocal chicken country poster to claim that the
house broke because of SFX and the goanet moderators
are responsible as well the marx missionary macaulay
mullah combine

2 more to support the chicken country posters
fulminations against marxists

1 budding activist politician to tel us that all such
accidents will never happen because everything is
written down in the Roadmap

one expat to take pictures of the house and post it on
goanet and one more to put it on youtube

3 expats to tell us that the house broke because india
invaded goa in 1961

1 to tell you that it is the fault of goan journos who
sit on the fence of the house and the devdasi system
is to blame

1 gaumti george soros from london to tell us that he
has run his software to find out that the lady is
actually not a lady and is posting on goanet using 3
identities

1 extremely vocal female poster to tell us
sanctimoniusly that the lady has small dreams and the
moral zeitgeist shifted and that caused the house to
fall and that she is disgusted with this and is going
to take a self imposed exile from goanet because she
has lost all faith in humanity

At least one atheist to give us the precise scientific
reason why the house fell and how the accident was
entirely out of natural causes

one person to organise a symposium by inviting marxist
trash from outside goa to lecture us on The need fo
comunal amity in face of ouse breaking by fascist
hindutvas the print book sold for 50 rupees

another to help the lady develop new dimensions
(whatever the heck that means)

another one to claim that the house fell because the
pagan lady worshipped snakes and monkeys inside the
house

finally a gaggle of expats to simply shout VIVA VIVA
VIVA

regards

How many Goans does it take to help a poor old lady?

Answer: 324

* One to point to the need
* Twelve to argue over who should do it
* Fiftyone to explain why the first guy should give the lead
* Twentytwo to point out that Goanet is not the forum to discuss this
* Eightyseven to blame expat Goans for not doing anything
* Five to castigate our politicians
* One to say that Goan journalists are to blame for not writing about this.
* The old lady herself, who points she prefers to apply for a death certificate.
* 144 to point out that this sum is wrong.

So there you go. We are like that only men! FN

RESPONSE: Whatever it is that you are smoking Fred, I want some of it too!

On a more serious note, I am really troubled, by one, now bleating,
that Catholics are hammering Hindus on this forum.

Every time an argument is lost, or deemed to be in danger of
collapsing, this individual resorts to the despicable level of
bringing Hindus Vs Christians into the equation.

I have Hindu tenants and we have mutual respect for each other. What
is being propagated here on this forum is just not right. The
conclusion drawn is that if one is against the RSS and/or the BJP
then one is against Hindus.

Floriano had advisedly stated, that the sooner one got off this, one
track mindset, then the sooner, Goans could concentrate on what needs
to be done. Alas the perpetrator is hell bent on fomenting communal
tensions.

Parrikar should stick to his Cannon hot shot, instead of venting his
bitter bile here. I even offered to buy him a beer or two, not many
get that from me !

As for the residents of Chicken County USA, hell will boil over before
they become tolerant.

Perhaps we should politely inform: Don't call us, we shall call you !

Dear Veronica,

Could you, please, provide me e-mail address of Minguel´s brother.

Allthough a fellow Lotlicar, I have missed knowing many of the younger
co-villagers.

If I know the vaddo father´s name that will suffice.

I will also ask my sister, Liby. Minguel will surely know my brother-in-law,
Jose the Cruz.

Besides collecting a kitty for poor Minguel, we should also teke it up
with the NRI Commission so that he does not get ripped of.

After all it is a big American outfit he was working for. He must be
certainly fully insured and all medical costs must be covered.

Our kitty may give him some short term comfort bu his rehabilitation and
other medical needs are, surely, for a lifetime. And, besides the support
he gave his family must be seriously considered.

However, ambulance chasing lawyers should be totally avoided.

The NRI commissioner, Eduardo Faleiro, besides being a top-notch
lawyer, is ex-Loutulim MLA.

I am copying this to him. Please look into the matter and advise.

Sincerely,

Help arrives for Goans aspiring to go overseas

BY HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, MARCH 2 – With a view to assist Goan youth desirous of
employment abroad, Commissioner for NRI Affairs Eduardo Faleiro on
Friday constituted the Overseas Employment Agency of Goa headed by
Vice- Admiral (retd) John C de Silva.

Announcing this at the Secretariat, Faleiro said that the Agency has
been registered as a Society and has obtained the certificate of
registration under the Emigration Act from the Government of India
recently.
Replying to a query, he said these kinds of employment agencies exist
in Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Kerala.
He said that the chairman of the Society, Vice-Admiral (retd) John C
de Silva and Director of NRI Affairs U D Kamat have begun contacting
foreign missions in India, including seven Gulf countries, South East
Asia and on board the sea, to assess manpower requirements abroad.
I am also writing to our Ambassadors to obtain information on
employment opportunities in the countries of their accreditation,
Faleiro said. These include ambassadors of European countries, USA and
Australia.
Speaking to reporters, Chairman de Silva stressed that quality would
be the hallmark of the Society.
The ideal candidates will be quality products acting like young
ambassadors of India in the place of work. We'll also be looking at
reputed employers, he said.
Faleiro also announced that in order to help Goan workers going
abroad, the Agency would hold short-duration courses (generally of one
week) in trades like plumbing, carpentry, driving, welding, fitting,
machine operating, besides conducting courses for electricians etc.
The first course will be held for a batch of 20 electricians on a
first-come-first-serve basis at the government Industrial Training
Institute, Borda, Margao, from March 19-24.

[Goanet] Help keep the Smile on the Senior Retired Tiatrists (plus Goa Govt. help/schemes)

2007-01-27 Thread JoeGoaUk

  http://www.GOANET.org

This month's Goanet operations sponsored by Mrs. Daisy Faleiro

It is nice to know KGTS doing wonderful job to help aged Goan Tiatrists and
musicians.

Here, let me also mention that there are some schemes/help also available to
goan artists
including taitrist/musicians etc.

Many time we are (specially Christians) are not aware of this schemes. e.g.
Last year Govt.
organised X'mas Crib competition at district level top prize being Rs.25,000
each. But when we
enquired about this in the south (the organisers of fine cribs, told us that
they were not
aware of this and hence not registered for the competition).

Village panchayt and the constituency MLA should make sure that all the
available Govt.
schemes are promoted or taken to the people at every village/ward level.

OK, coming to the financial help to goan artists..

Goa Govt. give awards to 14 people every year for State Cultural Awards to
those who are 55
and above of age. Each one is awarded Rs.20,000 besides other stuff like
Momento etc
Artists like Music/dance/Tiatre-Drama/craft art/painting/kirtan/literature etc
are eligible.

There is another scheme 'Financial Scheme to deserving (financially weak)
artists' it is
called 'KALA SANMAN'
Rs. 1250 to Rs.1,600 awarded per month to thos who are 58 and above

On top, one should not forget that there is a monthly assistence to old aged of
Rs. 750 which
comes under Directorate of Social Services - Minister Subash Shirodkar

further info can be obttained from

[Goanet] Help with Goan Hockey and other sports

2007-01-23 Thread Jason Monserrate

  http://www.GOANET.org

This month's Goanet operations sponsored by Mrs. Daisy Faleiro

Hi

Is there someone out there who can confirm which of the following
hockey players have Goan roots?

OL - Olympics, WC - World Cup, AG - Asian Games

Walter D'Souza - 1948 OL
Maxie Vaz 1948 OL
Leslie Claudius 1948 OL
Reginald Rodrigues 1948 OL
Charles Cornelius 1971 WC
Francis D'Mello 1971 WC
Manuel Fredricks 1978 WC
Robert Claudius 1978 WC
Leslie Fernandes 1974 AG
John Correia 1974 AG
Olympio Fernandes 1978 AG
Romeo James 1982 AG
John Fernandes 1990 AG
Mark Patterson 1990 AG
Daryll D'Souza 1990 AG
Jude Felix 1990 WC
Edgar Mascarenhas 1990 WC
Aloysius Edward 1994 WC
Edward Aranha 1994 WC
Gavin Ferreira 1994 WC
Bipin Fernandez 2002 WC
Viren Rasquinha 2004 OL

I compiled the names of 42 Goan players (excluding those
of Goan origin playing outside Goa like Marto Gracias,
Steven Dias, Deryk D'Souza, etc) who have represented
India's senior national football team since 1961. This
figure is not a strict figure, i believe there are more.

What is perhaps more appalling than the lack of recognition
these heroes have been given, is the lack of data
available on their feats.

It is obvious that the exploits of past Goans will go
unnoticed if not properly documented for future reference.
The lack of awareness about Goan sportsmen is baffling,
to say the least. We have former hockey olympians who
have gone on to represent not just India but other countries
as well. We have so many distinguished sportsmen and
sportswomen in so many sports. The least that can be done is
preserve data online. With minimal effort and cost,
we could help save the information forever.

I was thinking of setting up a blog, where important information
can be compiled and archived. Do you think this will be a
good idea or would a wiki be better? (i was thinking the
blog could be somewhat similiar to what FN has with
goabooks).

Also, the work needs to be collaborative and due credits
must be given to the source of the information. Anyone out
there, interested in helping research and compile data
during your free time?

I am clueless as to how to go about it. Apart from
collecting bits of information, i have not really done much
to compile and validate it. I think a collaborative effort
will ensure both accuracy and consistency in the data.

Thanks in advance
Jason
