[Goanet] Invitation is a gift

2021-12-20 Thread Nelson Lopes
Invitation a gift?
P.M reserved the remark of Pope as invitation to India a gift to placard
the catholic population indeed.
THE invitation is a formal procedure from one Head of State to another
In fact PM. Should consider warm audience with Pope as a gift to him
Consider the incarceration in jail of Fr Stan at the age of 89 without
even payroll on sick ground and who passed away in custody without
anything being conclusively proved of being naxalite supporter.
Remeber the horrific burning ,roasting alive of Steins, son and father
duo, accusing of conversion ,even though they have rendered humanitarian
aid in leprosy cases for a period of time and made India their home
The contribution of mother Theresa ,a Nobel peace prize is reluctantly
assumed accepted as a Indian Citizen
Catholics have been systematically persecuted in many states alleging
mainly about conversion by allurement etc.The Divine Retreat center
catering to International community was hounded on financial irregularity.
THE aniti conversion bill now Iin Karnataka is raising eyebrows of
being targetted wrongly on asumption
The demolition of selectively a catholic church in Delhi and vandalusatuon
of Churches, statues, cemeteries, sacred and revered places of worship are
an example of selective persecution and bias
In Goa too we see bias towards functioning of catholic institutions and
interference in appointments ,etc In employment too in Govt services there
is definite bias against the community
Catholic community has been doing yeoman social service providing aid to
elders, running hospitals colleges and schools of repute and many other
charitable works None OF POLITICAL luminaries in Govt and products of
catholic institution have ever accused of being indirectly converted and
they remain loyal to their faith, e.g Advani ,Parikar, shasi Tharoor etc
Such activities instead of being appreciated and not looked upon with
coloured blinkers calling it a ploy of conversion . .catholic community and
institutions work with neglected tribals deprived of basic needs and
ameolorating their conditions of health clothing, electricity water
education and medical needs
The Govt has been loath to provide statistics and complaints by individuals
about forced conversions by inducement and alurement instead of just
being speculative hypothetically. The contribution of 2.3 populations in
nation building, armed forces is laudable to ludicrously deny their roll
and doubt about national commitment and loyalty towards Nation
The invitation if at all is only a mere diplomatic formality and nothing
special to gloat about It remains to be seen when the Pope will visit in
the near future
The Pope visit to Oman and warm welcome and reception is praise worthy of
recall.Thr Pope is universally considered to be a messenger of peace and
good will and not a political
The pilars of catholic community is love service, forgive and forget and
revenge is not in their dictionary

[Goanet] INVITATION: ICG Book discussion - Vajpayee: The Years That Changed India, 5.00 pm Friday 8 January 2021 at International Centre Goa

5.00 pm – 7.00 pm Friday, 8th January 2021
at The International Centre Goa

Entry is free and open to the public but registration is required
(by sending an email to: p...@incentgoa.com)

For safety reasons, the programme will be held outdoors with a limited
number of attendees.
All standard protocols will be followed.

Shakti Sinha will be at The International Centre Goa (ICG) on 8th January
2021 to discuss his recently-released book Vajpayee: The Years That Changed
India (Penguin Random House, December 2020). Mr. Sinha, a former civil
servant, first got to know the late prime minister in 1980, and worked
closely with him for three and a half years in the 1990s, as secretary to
the leader of the Opposition (1996-97) and as his private secretary
(1998-99). Incidentally, the author has a fairly long association with Goa
where he served in various capacities between 1985 and 1992.

In his book, Mr. Sinha helps us understand Vajpayee as a decision-maker in
the context of the political challenges he faced, and focuses on some of
his key initiatives in the strategic and economic fields during his first
term as prime Minister. Among others, the book discusses the Pokhran-II
nuclear tests; the Golden quadrilateral highway network; and the
transformation of India's relations with the United States; and provides an
insider's account of how the former prime minister thought and worked.

Mr. Sinha will be discussing the book with Himanshu Roy, Atal Bihari
Vajpayee Senior Fellow, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML), Teen
Murti House, New Delhi and Constantino Xavier, Fellow, Foreign Policy and
Security, Centre for Social and Economic Progress, New Delhi.

The programme is the latest in the Kitaab: Books in Discussion series
organized by ICG. Past guests have included Puja Mehra (The Lost Decade
(2008-18): How India's Growth Story Devolved into Growth Without a Story,
Penguin 2019) and Nikhila Henry (The Ferment: Youth Unrest in India,
Macmillan 2018).

[Goanet] Invitation for CSE Round Table & Webinar on Vehicle Scrappage

A CSE Round Table & Webinar

VEHICLE SCRAPPAGE & END-OF-LIFE

A programme for ‘green’ recovery

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2020 | 4.00-5.30 PM INDIA TIME

India has recently leapfrogged to the much cleaner BSVI emissions
standards for vehicles. It is also opting for electric mobility
pathways. Measures like these can open up opportunities for fleet
renewal Ð replacing old, uneconomical (and often, grossly polluting)
vehicles.

However, the success and impact of any initiatives aimed at fleet
renewal will depend on the speed with which such actions are carried
out (to quickly replace the polluting vehicles). The programme will
also have to be well designed to target the most polluting vehicle
segments, the nature of the replacement vehicles and the design of the
incentives.

At the same time, the end-of-life vehicles that have exhausted their
useful economic life will require careful disposal to minimise
environmental damage, as well as recover material from the waste for
recycling and reuse. Guidelines exist for scrappage infrastructure and
safe disposal, but their enforceability will have to be the priority.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) invites you to a virtual
Round Table discussion and Webinar Ð and the release of a new report
Ð on `environment-friendly vehicle scrappage and end-oflife programme
for green recovery'.

The meeting is expected to bring together all the key stakeholders
including policymakers, air quality regulators, and representatives
from vehicle industry, the vehicle scrappage and recycling sector, and
vehicle certification agencies, to debate on the design of a scrappage
policy that is needed to scrap old vehicles and replace them with new
vehicles and how air quality and environmental gains from this
initiative can be maximised even as the fleet renewal strategy
catalyses the market demand.

Please note: This is a free webinar, and registration is open to all.
All those who register will receive an automatic confirmation.
However, the webinar can accommodate a limited number of attendees on
a first come-first served basis only. Therefore, please try to join 5
minutes before the scheduled time.

[Goanet] Invitation for the webinar Another Brick off the Wall

2020-08-22 Thread Vikas Khanna

ANOTHER BRICK OFF THE WALL

Addressing the problem of construction and demolition (C&D) waste in
Indian cities

AUGUST 25, 2020 | 4-5 PM INDIA TIME

Construction and demolition (C&D) waste pose serious environmental and
material challenges. Heaps of concrete, bricks, and metal waste from
building construction and infrastructure choke our water bodies, green
areas and public spaces in cities and outside. Huge amounts of toxic
dust particles from the debris pollute the air. Rules to manage this
waste were notified in 2016, but their implementation on the ground
has remained a challenge. Recent critical policy developments are now
expected to have a strong
bearing on acceleration of C&D waste management in cities.

To begin with, the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) aims at
reducing particulate pollution by 20-30 per cent by 2024 in about 122
cities that do not meet the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.
Clean air action plans in these cities have included C&D management as
part of the clean air strategy. The other big development is the 15th
Finance Commission's direct allocation of Rs 4,400 crore to Urban
Local Bodies (ULBs) for air pollution control. C&D management is the
direct responsibility of ULBs, and this funding can catalyse
transformation in cities. Thirdly, there is reason
to believe that funding of cities to incentivise C&D management can
strongly support the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan -- in fact, the Swatchh
Sarvekshan 2021 has doubled the number of points for ranking of cities
for C&D waste management.

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is convening a virtual Round
Table to discuss its latest assessment of India's C&D waste management
policy and practice. The assessment report, which will be officially
released at this Round Table, presents a granular view of the ground
reality in cities and the next steps.

We invite you to join the Round Table. Key regulators, implementing
agencies, technical experts and representatives from the recycling
industry are also expected to attend.

Moderators:

• Sunita Narain, Director General, CSE,

• Anumita Roychowdhury, Executive Director, CSE

Panelists:

• Naveen Kumar Agarwal,

---Doc,I love the last line.

I got to Moscow for the first time in 1984. The "hotel" I stayed at had a
Soviet Captain - in full uniform - distributing two cubes of sugar for the
after dinner coffee. When I say coffee, I use the term liberally. The brew
tasted more like boiled sawdust of a hardwood tree.

Lunch was a quarter chicken boiled in water. No onions, no peas, no salt,
nothing. The chicken portion was plucked out of a cauldron and dumped
unceremoniously on your rice. Rice was plentiful, beloved Soviet potatoes not
so. I was advised before arriving at the hotel to accept all the dark
(unsweetened) chocolate I was offered and use the same to bribe the maids for
favours. I later learnt that the biggest favour was to know what time hot water
would be available on our floor. That was the most valuable info in Moscow in
the middle of winter.

As for Comrade Kim, he was my favorite dictator for the longest time - only
because the propaganda dept in Tanzania insisted that there was no income tax
in N. Korea and all state revenue was obtained form profits of State
enterprises. Kim, the elder, was afraid of airplanes and I remember reading
about him travelling 12,000 miles to Moscow in an armored train. The last
carriage held donkeys - Kim's favourite animal - which he called "Celestial
Cows." In the 1990s, I had a Korean bar/restaurant in my neighborhood in
Toronto. As you know, Korean restaurants marinate all the meats and you have to
cook what you order on the little grill on your table. Well, after I became
real friendly with the restauranter, one fine night, he offered me "Celestial
Cow." Remembering the Comrade, I accepted the meat and enjoyed my meal. I found
out later that term was for another animal in Toronto. Hint: it was not bat
meat either.

One last thing, there is a bar in Dawson City, Yukon that has a challenge. They
have a human toe pickled in whisky and the challenge is to drink a tot of the
whisky. I am told that the tradition is more than a hundred years old now - and
that they are on the fourth toe. The previous ones being accidentally (or maybe
not) swallowed by patrons of the bar. Now, that is what I feel a non working
brain does.

[Goanet] Invitation To Celebrate Kim The Birthday in 1970.

2020-04-09 Thread Adolfo Mascarenhas
As a Tanzania citizen I had just been appointed by the President Nyerere in
his capacity as Chancellor of the University. Depleted of researcher the
main task ws to get Competent Staff. I had an Egyptian, an East German, a
Swede and an Austrian Hydrologist with connections from Harvard University,
married to a rich South Indian Catholic with her Education in a Swiss
Finishing School. Both husband and wife were provocateur. So here I am
apparently naive. The Austrian brought the delegation of two North Koreans
to my office. One was a translator . They had an invitation for me. Their
Supreme Leader Kim was celebrating his Birthday. The Celebration were for
six weeks. I would have to travel via Moscow. They would return in two
weeks to find the progress.

Six weeks of my time, when I had so much to do. They arrived a fortnight
later. I nonchalantly told that that it was slow because my American
Professor from UCLA and his team of 5 with the head of State Dept had
briefly seen me. Indeep I did not tell them that at least two of the older
fellows were dozing in my tiny office. I never saw the North Korean Again.

I have not been to Pyongyang or to Moscow.I am sure if I had gone for
Kim the Elders Birthday Celebrationthey would taken part of my working
brain. I would no longer be a Goan but a Goaner.

Have a Good Easter

Bio-data: Mr. Alan Machado, an Engineer by profession, has worked in India,
UK and Australia. He has recently published SLAVES OF SULTANS, a history of
conversions in Goa, migration of Goan Christians to Kanara, and their
captivity under Tipu Sultan. His previous books include a history of the
Mangalorean community (SARASVATI'S CHILDREN) and a novel (SHADES WITHIN
SHADOWS).

*Synopsis:* Haidar Ali’s and Tipu Sultan’s policy towards Goa and their
Kanara Christian subjects were dramatically different. Haidar kept his
channels to Goa open as a means of obtaining supplies and expertise from
Goa to build up his army and navy. Goa depended on Kanara’s rice and
placated Haidar with limited compliance of his requests. The English
capture of Mangalore in 1768 resulted in a setback in Haidar-Christian
relations for a while.

Tipu’s policy toward Goa and his Christain subjects was very different, and
resulted in the Captivity. Christians, Konkani, Tamil, and Kannada
speaking, throughout the *sultanat-i-khudadad* were deported to
Srirangapatna, and deprived of their right to live as Christians. Many
superficial and biased reasons have been offered for this. This
presentation will offer a more plausible explanation for Tipu’s antagonism
towards Christians, which arose in his effort to establish his legitimacy
to rule his *sultanat-i-khudadad*, the ‘God-given state’.

[Goanet] Invitation to celebrate Goa's First Canonized Saint on Sunday, March 15, 2015

2015-02-16 Thread George Pinto
>From the Joseph Naik Vaz Institute:

Pope Francis canonized the Goan and Konkani Saint, St. Joseph Vaz,and declared
him an universal Saint on January 14, 2015 during his State visit to Sri Lanka
at a beautiful open air ceremony at Colombo's sea front,  Galle Face Green.  He
thus made him Goa and Sri Lanka's first canonized Saint.

He was born in Benaulim, Goa on April 21, 1651  His father's ancestral village
was Sancoale.  He was a member of one of the founding "gauncar" families, the
Naiks, of Sancoale.

St. Joseph Vaz was no ordinary Goan.
He is founder of Asia's first native Catholic religious Congregation.
He is known as the "Apostle of Kanara and Sri Lanka" because he rescued
Catholic Missions around Mangalore and also re-founded the Church in Sri Lanka
during the Dutch persecution of Catholics.
He was protected by the Buddhist King of Kandy, Vimaladharma Surya II of Kandy,
from the Dutch.
During a small pox epidemic in Kandy, he took care of the abandoned victims and
founded the first hospital in Kandy.  He was well versed in both local Indian
medicine and western medicine.  He translated a Portuguese book of medicine
into Sinhala for the King of Kandy. He founded clinics and underground schools.
He studied and was fluent in both Tamil and Sinhala.  He founded a Catholic
Literature and Para-Liturgy in both these languages.

Our Mass of Celebration for his Canonization is being held at Cathedral of
Christ the Light, in Oakland on Sunday, March 15, 2015.
It will start at  9:30 a,m, with a Prelude of Hindu and Buddhist Chants and
sacred songs by the Hindustani choir of Smt. Rita Sahai, the Bay Area's
renowned classical Indian vocalist.  Another choral group will perform a new
composition, The Beatitudes (Jesus' Sermon on the Mount) in Raga Pahadi, by Bay
area composer John Giese.
The Prelude will be followed by Mass with Bishop Michael Barber S.J., of
Oakland, assisted by Rev. Fr. Thomas Massaro, S.J. Dean of the Jesuit School of
Theology of Santa Clara University, and a festive Lunch.

[Goanet] Invitation to Press Conference on CII Goa Conference on Logistics- 8 August 2014 Vivant by Taj Panaji Goa

2014-08-06 Thread Kirit Maganlal
*Dear Esteemed Members of the Print & Electronic Media,*

*INVITATION*
*Press Conference on CII Goa 2nd Conference on Logistics*
*‘New Coastal Feeder Services: Boost for Goa’s Container Trade’*
*8 August 2014, 1600Hrs, Vivanta by Taj Panaji Goa*

Greetings from CII Goa.

The logistic sector has been given an important place in the Goa Investment
Policy. Efficient logistics is an essential component of any plan for
development of Industry and Trade. Goa has the potential to emerge as a
logistics hub in western India. Such a hub would cater not only to Goa but
also to large parts of Southern Maharashtra and Northern Karnataka. The
increased volume of traffic has opportunities in all facets of logistics
including transportation, warehousing, freight forwarding, express cargo
delivery, container and shipping services, etc.

This requires creating an environment for the Goa logistics market to
provide value propositions in logistics solutions. Such solutions will come
about as a result of initiatives by the private sector backed up by
supportive regulatory environment.

CII Goa has taken the initiative to improve the logistics infrastructure
and connectivity of Goa with the focus on making the transportation process
of goods to their destinations faster, easier and economical.

The Conference aims:-
· To discuss Specific requirement of Goa’s Exporters and
Importers.

· Broader context of overall improvement in logistics solutions
for Goa and India.

· To discuss the broader Indian context of development of Goa’s
container trade,

· To make the trade aware of the new service and the
opportunities it brings.

The focus at this conference is to discuss and deliberate on boosting Goa’s
container trade as a result of the commencement of a coastal feeder service
between MPT at Goa and JNPT as part of the efforts of CII to improve the
logistics infrastructure and connectivity of Goa.

The conference will address an audience of stakeholders, Customs and
Clearing Agents, representatives of industry in Goa, leading Importers and
Exporters operating in the state, shipping lines involved in
containerization and shipment of goods into and out of the state.

I am writing to invite you to attend the Press conference at 1600 Hrs and
cover the event in your esteemed newspaper and news channel. This would be
followed by the Conference commencing at 1700 Hrs

A line in reply confirming your attendance would be deeply appreciated. For

[Goanet] Invitation to attend 'CSR in Education - Ensuring Impact' - 20/2/2014 - Samhita Social Ventures

2014-02-18 Thread Dolphy Dsouza

- Original Message -

To: Dolphy Dsouza

Subject: Invitation to attend 'CSR in Education - Ensuring Impact' - 20/2/2014
- Samhita Social Ventures

Samhita Social Ventures, the UK Government's Department for International
Development and Central Square Foundation would like to invite you to attend
'CSR in Education - Ensuring Impact' on Thursday, February 20, 2014. The event
aims to shed light on some of the pressing issues in the education sector while
offering approaches and models on how the private sector can intervene.

The involvement of the private sector is crucial as we approach a watershed
moment in the Indian education sector. The recently passed Companies Act
mandates companies to spend 2% of their profits on CSR. At the same time, the
Right To Education Act seeks to ensure quality education for all. Strategic
private sector involvement will not only address funding issues in the
implementation of the RTE but will also identify and address structural gaps
thus ensuring sustainable and quality education for the intended beneficiaries.

The keynote speech highlighting some of the major issues in education in India
will be delivered by Luis Miranda, Chairman, Board of Advisors, Centre For
Civil Society (Founder and ex-President, IDFC Private Equity). The 3 panel
discussions that follow are focused on specific issues in the education sector
namely remedial education initiatives, school transformational models and
models addressing critical gaps. The panel of speakers will have renowned
experts such as Elizabeth Mehta from Muktangan, Usha Rane from Pratham,
Vrishali Pispati from Mumbai Mobile Creches and professionals from the
corporate world such as M.N. Sanyal from Thermax, Puja Dave from L&T Finance
Holdings and Siddharth Ramalingam from IDFC.

The event will bring together various stakeholders such as companies,
foundations, experts, NGOs, social enterprises, beneficiaries and the
government offering insights on developing actionable ideas for CSR
initiatives. The audience will consist of senior management from companies such
as ICICI Securities, the Tata Group, Accenture, and Deloitte, representatives
from corporate foundations such as Essar and Swades, leaders of NGOs such as
Magic Bus India, Make A Difference, Educate Girls and Prerana and other experts
from the field of education.

Attached is a detailed concept note with the purpose, goals, speaker list and
agenda for the event. However, please feel free to contact us in case you
require more information about the event.

[Goanet] Invitation for All Goa Open Rapid Chess Tournament

2013-07-20 Thread augusto pinto
Dear Mr Parvatkar,

You haven't mentioned in your press release below when is the last date for
receiving entries for the tournament; who the entries should be sent to;
where the tournament will be held; the number of rounds; the prize fund or
the entry fee.

Do please remember to put in these details when writing press releases as
it might make it easier for among other people yourself - for you can now
expect a flurry of phone calls to you to answer these questions.

The rule of thumb when writing press releases is to ask the questions:
what, when, where, why, how - if your note is able these questions then
your note will be effective. This common sense advice applies to all
writers of press notes/releases.

[Goanet] Invitation - Amontron - Kovit - 18 April 4 pm - Mogacho Maand

2013-04-17 Thread augusto pinto
Dear All

Goa Book Club started discussing Konkani Story Flash Fiction and as a
result of that discussion we decided to have, as Jose Lourenco announced "A
One-Hour Freestyle Open Unconference on Konkani" which we called Mogacho
Maand: Konknnicho Avaz from 4 pm on Thursday, 18 April at the hall of the
Dempo BBA campus in the Massano de Amorim building, next to the Cine
National Theatre. The entrance is diagonally opposite to Texas Restaurant
on one side and Ritz Classic on the other. The hall can seat about 50
persons. Some of us are carrying snacks and soft drinks, but feel free to
bring some along too. The program will be held in association with Dempo
College's HIMKO (Hindi, Marathi & Konkani) Club.

The idea is to listen to the varied voices, accents and dialects of
Konkani. Participants are invited to bring along a very short story or poem
or folktale or novel excerpt and read it out (in a dull monotone, or a
dramatic act or something in between). Each person gets 5 minutes, extended
to 7 minutes if needed. We finish in one hour, extended to one and half
hour if the mood takes us. No political discussions, no polemics, unless in
good humour and in good taste. Just the piece and perhaps 2 minutes of
discussion soon after the piece is read. Jose Lourenco will moderate. We
can read texts read out in Bardezi, Sashtti, Antruzi, Pednem, Canconn,
Mangluri, Keralli and other dialects and have a great time. Get along any
friend or acquaintance who may have a unique Konkani voice, we want to hear
it."

Please forward this mail to whoever you think would be interested in
attending the programme. An invitation is attached.

2012 VINCENT XAVIER VERODIANO AWARD

The Vincent Xavier Verodiano Award is awarded by the Vincent
Xavier Verodiano Foundation. The objective of the award is to promote the
wellbeing of mankind through individual advancement in the field of art, music,
literature, science, medicine or humanities. The award was founded by Dom
Martin in 1989, in memory of his late father, Vincent
Xavier Verodiano. The winner is announced on the 20th day of September, and
the award is conferred on the 5th day of November.

This
year the prestigious Vincent Xavier Verodiano Award has been conferred
on Goa 1556 in recognition of its pioneering commitment to record Goa’s
variegated past, project its kaleidoscopic present, and accentuate its
pendulous future.

Goa
1556 is
an alternative publishing venture, founded by veteran journalist Frederick
Noronha. The company name was inspired by the arrival of the Gutenberg Printing
press to Goa in the year 1556 – the first of its kind in all of Asia. As Mr.
Noronha
succinctly put it, the primary goal of his publishing company is to “democratise
the production of knowledge”.

The
editorial modulation of Goa 1556 is non-fiction writing related to Goa,
with emphasis on books which “shed interesting new light on various aspects
that help better understand the complex region called Goa.” As of August 2012,
Goa
1556 has amassed an assortment of 45 titles to its credentials.

Mr. Alito Siqueira, Associate Professor, Dept. of

FYI...

Dear Friends,

The 11th biennial Goan Convention is scheduled to be held in Metropolitan
Detroit from July 6-8, 2012. The convention is planned to be like a family
vacation, with fun filled activities for the whole family.

We are leveraging the cultural and professional diversity of this great
American city to create an enjoyable experience. The Motown is the home to the
auto giants: General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler. Less than an hour away in Ann
Arbor is the University of Michigan, one of the finest universities in the
country. Greektown is the entertainment hub with three casino hotels. The
region fields professional teams in baseball, football, basketball, and ice
hockey.

We are hoping that Goenkars from cities within driving distances such as
Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and Toronto as well
as from the coasts and the south will attend the convention in large numbers.

[Goanet] Invitation: THE PITCH BLACK PROJECT III

2011-02-17 Thread Jan Ugahi

THE PITCH BLACK PROJECT III

William Stafford rightly said that "Kids", they dance before they
realize that there is such a thing as music. Children come with natural
exuberance showing such value for the little they have.

During our journey with the children from the first two editions of The
Pitch Black Project, we have learnt that every child is inimitable in
their own right, each with the exceptional talents and gifts in
extraordinary measures.

The PITCH BLACK PROJECT programme encourages our children to dream big
and aim high, showing them that their disabilities are not limitations
and that there is no challenge that is insurmountable. This is our
drive, our Goal for a better Goa.

Dance is one of the most effective forms of physical activity, and we
try to encourage the youngsters’ natural energy and enthusiasm through
the fun and innovative environment that we provide.

We aspire to create a platform for these children and reach out to many
more so they may dance with their hearts to the music of life.

"I am a part of the drive towards changing the current facet to a better
Goa. The Pitch Black Project I ,II and III is a platform for me to
support these underprivileged children who dare to Live, Aspire and
Hope; a call to institutions, schools, charities "To Join Me In
Achieving this" .

On the same day as the performance, we will be hosting a "The PITCH
BLACK PROJECT - We Are Grateful Drive”

We welcome help in the form of books, clothes, toys and donations. We
will be using the collected material as a resource for school material
and toys to support the underprivileged children .You can donate as many
good quality items of clothing as you can. We accept clothes of only
children and also welcome bed sheets, towels, blankets and other such
necessities, this will reach the children free of cost.

How to Donate

Drop items off at ,The Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium ,Fatorda ,There
will be Donation Bins at the entrance ,All donations must be clean and
useable, the better the quality of your items, the happier the children,
who will be the ones receiving them .The Pitch Black Volunteers will be
there to assist you, should you need it.

I take the privilege of inviting you on Feb 17, 2011, 5 pm, at The
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium,Fatorda, The Pitch Black Project III
will go public showcasing the talents of 8000 children, who are awe
inspiring in their zest for life and hope, in a monumental and poignant
dance performance.

The Pitch Black Project performances are contributions towards
underprivileged children's rights and care. We strive to have an
increased awareness of social issues and pave the way for significant
changes in our community. The Pitch Black Project III is a strong
advocate and has worked relentlessly to help reduce the problems and
abuse faced by these children, Through the eloquent performance, our
goal is to celebrate diversity and to ensure social justice, respect and
dignity for all.

We support and encourage the children, as they live their lives
fearlessly, passionately and contentedly despite challenges. We look
forward to your support towards our endeavor to make THE PITCH BLACK
PROJECT III, a reality for the children who we perform with.

Brief about the Book

PATRIOTISM IN ACTION: Goans in India’s Defence Services is a first ever
attempt to compile a list of Goan commissioned officers in India’s armed
forces, undertaken by writer Valmiki Faleiro. The “Goan Officer,” with
fine attributes of courage, loyalty, professionalism and an espirit de
corps built himself into an institution with a reputation for
dependability and fair play. When a junior officer was posted to a unit
headed by a Goan, he would exclaim to his mates, “Hey, I’m lucky, I have
a Goan CO (commanding officer)!” Across its 344 B&W and full-colour
pages, this book celebrates that “Goan Officer”.

About the author

One of Goa's own homegrown prolific writers, Valmiki Faleiro was active
between the mid-Seventies and mid-Eighties. As a working journalist
then, he was Staff Reporter of the West Coast Times. He also covered Goa
for national publications like the Current Weekly, the Free Press
Journal group of publications (FPJ, Onlooker fortnightly newmagazine,
etc) and finally the Indian Express. As a freelancer before that, he
contributed articles and features to various journals like The Navhind
Times, Goa Today, the Sun Weekly, Newstrek, Detective Digest, Mirror and
Newsmag.

Faleiro was among the dozen-odd Indians selected for the Workshop of
Asian Writers held in March 1977 at the prestigious India International

Faleiro worked his way through other professions too. He was also,
briefly (1985-87), the Municipal President of Margao. On taking to the
pen once again, after a gap of two decades, he wrote a couple of
chapters for a book on Goa's print media (In Black and White, 2008),
penned an eminently readable regular Sunday column called 'All 'n'

readable, well-informed and convincingly-argued as ever. This is his
first book.

[Goanet] Invitation for Goa Revolution Day 5.30 pm 18 June 2010, Benurdem, Balli, Quepem

2010-06-12 Thread sebastian Rodrigues

Goa Federation of Mines Affected
People
(GOAMAP) invites to Public function to mark Goa Revolution Day on coming
Friday, 18 June 2010 near Primary School, Benurdem, Balli, Quepem at
5.30m to 7.30 pm. The program is fixed at this time to facilitate
toiling tribal people who work the whole day and return to village
around this time.

The significance of the day remains in valiant defiance of
Portuguese Colonial rule in Goa by Ram Manohar Lohia on 18 June 1946 in
Margao that sparked off wide spread revolt against Colonial ruler.

Our

current situation too demands tremendous defiance as the current rulers
in collusion with various vested interests all over the globe has been
promoting predatory colonial model of development that includes
scuttling of self-rule at grass roots levels, Mining - legal as well as
illegal - usury of income by private parties, Special Economic Zones
(SEZs), Airport at Mopa, Golf tourism in Tiracol, Blockade of
traditional access of tribal people to forest areas, historical
treachery and loot of lands ownership titles from Goa's tribal
population, expansion of highways, destruction of Goa's ecology for the
sake of Cricket Stadium, enormous threats to water sources, functional
drug mafia, and location of various real estate projects in
non-transparent and anti-democratic manner, destruction of agriculture
are some of the glaring examples in this regard.

Please come and also get your friends. Come prepared to share your
ideas. Together we can initiate small steps towards change for better
Goa. Goa Revolution Day is just so fit for this!

[Goanet] Invitation for Goa Revolution Day Celebration on June 18!

2009-06-15 Thread sebastian Rodrigues

Goa Federation of Mines Affected People (GOAMAP) will organise special program
to celebrate Goa Revolution Day on June 18, 2009 at T.B. Cunha Hall, Panaji,
Goa. Revolution Day is significant in the history of Goa’s Freedom Struggle in
order to uphold civil liberties and sovereignty of the People of Goa. 63 year
ago on June 18, 1946 Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya defied fascist colonial Portuguese
regime to assert freedom of speech and expression as well as freedom of Public
Assembly in Margao. Dr.Lohiya was arrested and that resulted in mass upsurge
against the Portuguese regime.

Advocate Jos Peter D,souza, a senior High Court Lawyer in Goa will speak on
Judicial Accountability at a Goa Revolution Day program on June 18, 2009 at
3.00 pm. Member of public are invited to participate in the program.
