[google-appengine] www.winebythebar.com going to sites instead of appengine suddenly

2009-12-27 Thread Thomas McKay - www.winebythebar.com
I'm not sure where I should be asking for help for this. I've started
a thread here:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Apps/thread?tid=0b3a59520d9a980e&hl=en

My site, which has been working for over a year (and is both the
server side of an Android app as well as my company website) has
suddenly started redirecting www.winebythebar.com to
http://sites.google.com/a/winebythebar.com/www/ . The likely start
date is 26th Dec.
Please help!

My site, www.winebythebar.com, not being directed to sites instead of
appengine suddenly

Issue Description: Visiting www.winebythebar.com now redirects to
http://sites.google.com/a/winebythebar.com/www/ instead of hitting the
appengine python. This site has been working for over a year (it is
the server side of an Android app, besides being my company website).

I have not changed any settings in cpanel in months. Any suggestions
would be very welcome!

Edit On cpanel I have two addresses mapped to my appengine app:
www.winebythebar.com and incoming.winebythebar.com. incoming reaches
the site correctly but www does not any more. Help!

but I don't have a mapping for www, only 'home'

Edit In fact, trying to add 'www' as the above link describes in
order to then delete it says that www is already in use.

I can get to http://code.google.com/p/imi-imi/ if you just need to
check your project

The https was the problem. Use http instead and I am able to load the page.

Re: [google-appengine] www.winebythebar.com going to sites instead of appengine suddenly

2009-12-27 Thread Jesaja Everling
Hello Thomas,

AFAIK the "www" subdomain of a domain managed by Google Apps is by
default associated with Google sites. This seems to be the cause of
your problem. You have to enable the sites service and to remove the
"www" subdomain to change this and associate the "www" subdomain with
your app.
Maybe this helps. No idea why it worked before and changed.

Best Regards,

Jesaja Everling

Looks like the problem gone.
But can we be sure that it will not be repeated again?

May be, we need to use issue tracker for messages like this?

[google-appengine] DB returns all correspondig errors (another problem with indexes?)

2009-12-27 Thread Denis Moskalets
Dear google, will you answer on posts about the problems in this
group, or should we use issue tracker for messages like this?
App-id: ctms-release

I have model with field and ancestor, referencing the same keys.
So, i can retrive records using either .ancestor("key_here") or .filter
("project_key =", db.Key(encoded="key_here"))
It should return the same result, right?

But queries

SELECT * FROM ctms_Report WHERE ANCESTOR IS KEY
('agxjdG1zLXJlbGVhc2VyGQsSDGN0bXNfUHJvamVjdCIHaWQyNDYzMAw') AND
contactdate <= DATE('2009-11-14') AND contactdate >= DATE
('2009-11-14') ORDER BY contactdate

and

SELECT * FROM ctms_Report WHERE project = KEY
('agxjdG1zLXJlbGVhc2VyGQsSDGN0bXNfUHJvamVjdCIHaWQyNDYzMAw') AND
contactdate = DATE('2009-11-14')

returns different results. 1st returns 1 record, 2nd — 3 records.

Can you explain, please, what's wrong?

Is it another problem with indexes, when some records are lost?

Cool

I've added this index:

  - name: contactdate

and the 2nd query become broken too!

Re: [google-appengine] www.winebythebar.com going to sites instead of appengine suddenly

2009-12-27 Thread Duong BaTien
Yes, it happened to many including my site aroud Dec 23. The solution
is:
  (1) to deactive your site in google Apps.
  (2) deactivate, then permanently delete your site under GAE. Your app
id at appspot.com is intact. It will take around 72 hours to completely
delete your application in GAE.
  (3) re-map your application url and unload your application.

Hope this may help.

But IE8 seems to be having some problems with it. I think it might

[google-appengine] Duplicating static serving

2009-12-27 Thread MajorProgamming
I recently came across an issue where I solved the problem by taking
the same exact template file, and serving it static (in app.yaml)

How can I serve files dynamically (e.g. templates), so that the result
is exactly the same as when serving dynamically?

Thanks for your help...

Surely it depends on what your 'problem' was.

As long as you setting a MIME/Content type on the dynamic file, the
browser shouldnt know the difference.

If you can be more specifc, it would probably be alot easier for
someone to help you.

[google-appengine] Small error in Pagination article

2009-12-27 Thread djidjadji
While reading the article on pagination I noticed a small error in one
of the examples.

http://code.google.com/appengine/articles/paging.html

Near the mid of the page there is the suggestion to make the property
unique by adding the email address and a counter value.

The counter values for j...@bitworking.org are the wrong order.
At 01:10:03 a counter value of 3 is appended
At 04:38:00 a counter value of 1 is appended

But the code increments the counter.

[google-appengine] Re: Duplicating static serving

2009-12-27 Thread MajorProgamming
Solved the problem: when using the script caching is not done right (I
think it's disabled). So I set the caching headers and voila! it
worked!

Thanks for your help.

[google-appengine] Re: my ae don't support unicode, why i submit Chinese, now homepage err, how to rollback database?

2009-12-27 Thread bruno.braga
Hi,

First thing, you should specify which framework you are using (Python
or Java)... If Python, I suggest placing this question directly at:
http://groups.google.com/group/google-appengine-python?hl=en
You will probably get stronger answers from there.

Supposing that you are talking about Python:

Did you try to deal with encoding before insert/query the data from
datastore? Something like:
model.text = unicode(text, 'utf8')

This worked well for me (I am working with an application handling
japanese).

That's a nice workaround for this.

The only problem here is to convince people to send all traffic to

If they need to deal with sensitive data, most likely they will not
turn to this solution.

[google-appengine] What's the best way to back up data on Google App Engine?

2009-12-27 Thread John Maxwell IV
Google itself provides two solutions.

http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/python/tools/uploadingdata.html

One of these is new and experimental and requires you to run a
separate command (and separately enter your username and password) for
each kind of data you want to back up.

The other requires you to twice write out information on the structure
of all the kinds of your data, information that is already implicit in
your models file. (We've got 25 different kinds of data so I'm
sensitive to this kind of stuff. Plus it will mean future changes will
have to be made in 3 places.)

Then there's Aral Balkan's solution (google for "gaebar"), but his
code on Github hasn't been updated in about a year, and he's
additionally telling people to do some modification to App Engine
internals (which seems risky, since they change in every version).

I think I'm leaning towards Google's non-experimental solution, but
they all seem pretty bad.

[google-appengine] Does Image API Optimize Images

I have searched all over to try and find out whether the Google App

understand why no one has enquired about this? Perhaps, it is just a
given that Google would be optimizing images for size? My facebook
profile image is only 8kb; typically I would hope for similar
results..

[google-appengine] Updating an object fails when accessing application through Twilio

2009-12-27 Thread Kelvin
Hi,

I have an application that receives parameters two parameters using
GET method.  The parameters are:

 Caller, Digits

Using those two parameters it actually updates an object in the
datastore. The problem I'm having is that if I use a web browser to
access the link which receives the parameters everything works fine,
the records are updated. However, when I point my Twilio phone number
to the application it actually looks like it is working fine over the
phone, the process goes as it's supposed to look but the record never
gets updated (i'm passing the exact same parameters.

I have tried switching from POST to GET and back and forth but no luck
so far.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I have fixed this issue along with some missing dependencies in the

Note: there is still an outstanding bug when trying to post new blog

So...

I have one app set up in appengine. Now I want to add a second one.
But when I click on "Create an Application," it sends me to the verify

verification. Since I have already verified my account, I have already
used my phone number, and it won't let me submit the same number

[google-appengine] conceptual question regarding spreadsheet based project

2009-12-27 Thread Mark Morgan
Hello,

Before I get down in this and start running into dead ends, I wanted
to run this concept by all the people with experience and see if it
makes sense.

Basically I have a need for users to share data that starts as
personal spreadsheet files. They aren't sharing pictures, music, or
any other data beyond a 4-column spreadsheet in a csv file.

Each user comes to the program with their own spreadsheet that's been
a part of a legacy computer program. The data is accessed multiple
times daily. Because each user's spreadsheet is local, it has evolved
and been customized and may look different than another user's local
data. A user might have anywhere from 100 to 500 rows of data in
their spreadsheet.

So putting all of these spreadsheets on the web for collaboration is
the point of my project. Collaboration would be at the row level, as
each is basically a record.

It seems pretty important that people be able to upload their original
file and also be able to download files from the collaboration site.

I've been following App Engine for a while now, I've been tinkering
with it, and I like it. Up until recently I was working on a project
to prepare the spreadsheet (csv) files for upload by the web site.

The problem is: Uploading a csv is an admin function. It's not one
for basic users. And the uploading part is important for my
application to be useful. This seems like a dealbreaker.

I thought of having users email the csv file in and set up an
automatic import of those files, but I wonder how fast and reliable
that would be. Any layer of difficulty -- each step between the user
and their data -- will discourage use.

So my next thought was google spreadsheets data API. Here the user
could have all their csv files stored as spreadsheets. This would
overcome the difficulty with user data uploads into App Engine.

Is this a reasonable thought? Am I missing some really easy way to
set up a webform for user csv file uploads? It really does seem like
the datastore is limited to just user blob uploads. Is that right?

Thank you for any ideas/suggestions you might have.

Take care,
Mark

[google-appengine] "The import com.google.apphosting.api.ApiProxy cannot be resolved"

2009-12-27 Thread bill
I followed the instructions here:

http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/howto/unittesting.html

and added appengine-api-stubs.jar and appengine-local-runtime.jar to
my classpath. Eclipse was able to resolve these imports fine:

import com.google.appengine.api.datastore.dev.LocalDatastoreService;
import com.google.appengine.tools.development.ApiProxyLocalImpl;

It is not able to resolve this import:

Is there another JAR file I need to add to my classpath?

[google-appengine] Re: Naked domain support - solved?

2009-12-27 Thread Dima U
Yes, I know without huge company name on a front page it sounds scary.
But for some small/test apps it can be good enough and really useful.
Eventually it will be supported directly by Google, and people will
just switch.

I'm using it for a small number of my sites, and with current
bandwidth prices there is no reason not to give it away.

As some reassurance points I can say:
- It is being used for non-Google sites, so this redirector is not
going to disappear anytime soon (or when Google will start supporting
it directly).
- From tech POV it is a lighttpd server without any code at all,
redirect is being made at config level. It is not hard to keep that
alive.

Hope this helps!

Is your "created" field indexed and have the indexes been built?

[google-appengine] Need Help with Datastore Query

2009-12-27 Thread Ms. Jen
Hello All(),

I have been struggling with attempting to run a datastore query and
keep getting the same error even though I have read through all the
docs on Queries and Keys, watching several of the Google I/O videos,
as well as looking at a number other apps' source code to see how they
are done.

The error I get is:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/Applications/GoogleAppEngineLauncher.app/Contents/Resources/
GoogleAppEngine-default.bundle/Contents/Resources/google_appengine/
google/appengine/ext/webapp/__init__.py", line 507, in __call__
handler.get(*groups)
  File "/Users/msjen/Dev/alex/alexsbarbooking/editband.py", line 41,
in get
self._displayEditBandPage()
  File "/Users/msjen/Dev/alex/alexsbarbooking/editband.py", line 32,
in _displayEditBandPage
raise ValueError, 'Band with ID %d does not exist.' % id
ValueError: Band with ID 2 does not exist.

My code is:
id = int(self.request.get('id'))
band_id = Band.get(db.Key.from_path('Band', id))
if band_id:
  band_query = Band.gql("WHERE ID = ", id)
  band = band_query.fetch(1)
  self.response.out.write('Band query successful. %s : %d' %
band.band_name, id)
  if not band_edit:
raise ValueError, 'Band query with ID %d did not get the info
from the datastore.' % id
if not band_id:
  raise ValueError, 'Band with ID %d does not exist.' % id

I have imported the db.model of band:
from band import Band

The other error I get if I use other code samples is that the global
variable of 'band' is not recognized, even though I have imported the
model.

the URL path that I am requesting the id from is:
http://localhost:8080/editband/?id=2
And I am able to run a self.write.reponse to write out the requested
id from the path.

The problem seems to lie in passing the requested path id into the
query where I want to filter it by the requested id.

Please, please, tell me that another set of eyes can spot what I am
doing wrong here

Thanks in advance,
Jen

And the strings for

2008-10-26 03:35:58|j...@bitworking.org|2

Official advice seems be Meta in this case
class BandForm(djangoforms.ModelForm):
    class Meta:
        model = Band
wheres a very good gae editor in least codebase is available
