[google-appengine] Re: Announcing: System Status Dashboard, Quota Details Page, and a Preview of Billing
Very nice! Thank you (and everyone else on your team, of course ). Just one question. The pricing screen shot looks like it shows storage at $0.15/GB-day. In the previously released pricing plan, it was supposed to cost around $0.15-18/GB-month. Am I reading something wrong, is that a typo, or has storage cost increased dramatically while we weren't looking? I think it was supposed to be $0.15 per GB-month. Its way too high to be per GB-day. On Dec 17, 12:06 am, James Ashley wrote: > Very nice! I would tend to agree Indra. That seems way to high. Is there an ETA on this feature? Hi, Yes, this is a typo, it's meant to be GB-month. In terms of timeline, we are working hard on the ability purchase more resources. While a specific date has not yet been announced, expect it earlier in the new year. -Marzia On Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 12:31 PM, BrianJinwright wrote: > > I would tend to agree Indra. is it restrict all the data must store in datastore, and datastore is limit every record less than 1M? that means a big PNG image and Mp3 file is not store.if i use S3 , every time i use urlfetch to get file and return to user if I use S3 bing domain,it's public to everyone not need to pass through my sites. Hi Brian, These two features (billing and large file uploads) are being worked on concurrently but their release dates are not tied together. [google-appengine] Re: Announcing: System Status Dashboard, Quota Details Page, and a Preview of Billing
It's possible to have S3 serve images directly to your users with authentication, although that's a bit off topic for this group I think. In any case, large file support's on the App Engine roadmap. No date's been announced, but it's listed in the same 4Q2008 - 1Q2009 timeframe as billing, and it's the first item in the list. Whether you can infer from this that it will be introduced at the same time as billing is unclear, but it seems likely to me since I think that buying more quota and serving large files would make it a much better Amazon competitor from the outset. [google-appengine] Re: Announcing: System Status Dashboard, Quota Details Page, and a Preview of Billing
Just for clarification: There seems, to me, to be a big distinction between "support for large files" (to me, that sounds like serving bigger files that I upload via appcfg) and supporting large files uploaded by end-users (which, to me, implies letting the web app store data in bigger BLOBs). It seems perfectly workable (if a nasty bit of coding) to treat the database BLOBs as a virtual file system, breaking a file into multiple chunks and streaming them back one at a time. But actually uploading such a thing means getting over the 1 MB request limit. Is that part of the plan? Thanks yet again, James On Dec 17, 11:47 am, Marzia Niccolai wrote: > Hi Brian, > > These two features (billing and large file uploads) are being worked on > concurrently but their release dates are not tied together. The quotas you will be able to buy more of are marked as "adjustable" on this page: http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/quotas.html URL Fetch API calls are currently not one of the quotas intended to be adjustable, but we can consider it for the future. -- Dan On Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 10:52 AM, luke wrote: > > Hi, > > There is a limit on the number of url fetches you can do (currently > 160,000), will it be possible to buy more. > My app needs to do to a number of API calls per request so this limit > will be a problem for me. > > - Luke > > > > On Dec 17, 1:45 am, Marzia Niccolai wrote: > > Hi, > > > > As many of you have already noticed, we released some Admin Console > changes > > today, and we've also announced a System Status Dashboard ( > http://code.google.com/status/appengine), and have some more details on > > Google App Engine's billing plans. > > > > You can read all about these announcements on our blog: > http://googleappengine.blogspot.com/2008/12/system-status-dashboard-q... > > > > -Marzia > > > > --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google App Engine" group. [google-appengine] Re: Announcing: System Status Dashboard, Quota Details Page, and a Preview of Billing
Hey, Will we be able to set a max spending limit per week and/or per month in addition to the daily limit, much like adwords? As an example, I might be comfortable spending, say, $20 on a day to survive a digg/slashdot or what have you, but not *every* day. Rather, my monthly max might be for example $100, where $20 daily with no roof would mean a lot of managing of the daily limit, or the chance of getting a lumpy $600 bill. Thanks. - Thomas On Dec 16, 7:45 pm, Marzia Niccolai wrote: > Hi, > > As many of you have already noticed, we released some Admin Console changes > today, and we've also announced a System Status Dashboard > (http://code.google.com/status/appengine), and have some more details on > Google App Engine's billing plans. > > You can read all about these announcements on our > blog:http://googleappengine.blogspot.com/2008/12/system-status-dashboard-q... > > -Marzia --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google App Engine" group. We haven't yet announced information that answers your question directly. If you haven't seen it, check out the billing sneak peak we snuck in to the last blog entry: http://googleappengine.blogspot.com/2008/12/system-status-dashboard-quota-details.html#sneakpeak Of course, you'll see the whole thing when we launch the feature, which will be soon. -- Dan On Sat, Dec 20, 2008 at 5:57 PM, Thomas Johansson wrote: > > Hey, > > Will we be able to set a max spending limit per week and/or per month > in addition to the daily limit, much like adwords? > > As an example, I might be comfortable spending, say, $20 on a day to > survive a digg/slashdot or what have you, but not *every* day. The docs are fine, I was referring to the billing of the other quotas. I noticed in the new quotas page that number of requests is not adjustable. so no matter what, if a site gets a spike in traffic that is larger then the default request limit, it will be shutdown? this seems odd to me, althought maybe I really need to examine how large the cap is first cheers brian On Dec 21, 2:10 pm, Thomas Johansson wrote: > The docs are fine, I was referring to the billing of the other quotas. > Or will they rise proportionally to CPU usage, storage and bandwidth? > > - Thomas > > On Dec 21, 7:56 pm, Dan Sanderson wrote: > > > On Sat, Dec 20, 2008 at 11:06 PM, Thomas Johansson > > wrote: > > > > Speaking of the billing, perhaps you can elaborate on the other quotas > > > in place, like sending emails, urlfetch and so forth? > > > The best sources of info on the quotas right now are the Quotas section of > > the Admin Console, and the new section in the documentation: > > http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/quotas.html > > > The docs have the definitions, and the Console has the precise amounts for > > your application (the free levels) and how much your app has used in the > > past 24 hours. [google-appengine] Re: Announcing: System Status Dashboard, Quota Details Page, and a Preview of Billing
It's 1.3 million currently, meaning about 15.42 req/s for the *entire* day. It's been growing over time though. I believe the hard limit until very recently was 650.000. My guess is that the request limit and a lot of other quotas will get adjusted based on the payable ones. The request limit for example will probably rise with bandwidth allotment. Hi Thomas--this is correct. The quotas not marked as adjustable will be raised considerably when Billing is released. Hi, First, regarding Google Checkout - this will be the only method of payment available when billing launches, however, we are still committed to supporting our developers who live in the few countries where Google Checkout is not available. For developers located in those countries, quotas for particular applications may be raised. Decisions will be made strictly on a case-by-case basis and may take up to two weeks The pricing upon launch of billing can be found here: http://googleappengine.blogspot.com/2008/05/announcing-open-signups-expected.html -Marzia On Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 9:44 AM, mclovin wrote: > > Am i missing something somewhere? The quota is 864 memcache API calls/day, and http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/quotas.html#Memcache doesn't list it as adjustable which seems to be an indication that you won't be able to purchase more.
