When the list server crashed, we relocated to egroups.com.

Go to http://www.arches.uga.edu/~weaver/gtsmail.html for details.

List future

2000-11-17 Thread Michael Weaver

Hey all,

During the extended downtime of the Elektro-based GTS list, I brought the
GTS list up on a site called www.egroups.com, a free group hosting
facility. I've solicited the opinions of the group members I could reach
and have considered the two options.

I have decided to move the list to the eGroups site. Some of the reasons
for this choice are:

Automatic removal of MIME encoded stuff.
Much easier list management for me. :-)
Group file sharing space
Group shared calendar (good for organizing GTS rides)
A chat room
Easy to access archives
A page for web links folks would like to share to the group

I have asked Charlie, the admin of Elektro, to configure the mail alias,
gts-1000@elektro, to reply to messages with a statement informing folks of
the list change. Please share this information with your friends who are
missing from our group.

I would like to personally thank Charlie Smith for his willingness to host
our list out of the kindness of his heart. For those who don't know him,
Charlie is a long time motorcyclist and a good friend.

Here are the egroups e-mail commands:

To join gts1000:
Send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Unsubscribe from a group:
Send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Put your email message delivery on hold for a group:
Send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Change your subscription to daily digest mode:
Send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Change your subscription to individual emails:
Send a blank message to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Also, your account can be managed via the web at www.egroups.com, if you
so choose. For those who choose not to, simply send me a direct e-mail
explaining what you need done and I'll manually change your subscription
status for you.

For those of us to maintain GTS related web-pages, could you please either
retain the link to www.arches.uga.edu/~weaver/gtsmail.html (which is
updated now) or refer to the new list address.

Thank you for your time and patience.

All the best,
Mike

Its been so long I forgot what we're recommending for tire pressures.
I'm using 120/70 and 180/55 D-207s (and so should you) :)

Is the correct pressure 38 front and 42 rear? I know I'm close but I'm

A tip for everyone who has spent days searching for the reason why the
'indicator' fuse keeps blowing seemingly at random (symptoms: No brake
lights, no instruments, no indicators, ABS light flashes, owner overheats):

Look at the main cable leading from the left of the frame to the front
fairing, behind and slightly above the left front indicator (yes, you have
to remove the top fairing, or at least the instuments). This rests on a
sharp iron stub - I suppose my bike is not the only one where this thing
has worn the lower isolation away. If it hasn't yet on your bike, make sure
it doesn't on your trip to the north cape :-)

Hello to all,

I was on this list until about a year ago but lost the address when I
changed jobs. I finally found my way back, thanks to Kelly Cash. I still
have my 94 GTS and love it more everytime I ride it~Duh! I have about 39,000
miles on it, but I'm the second owner... at little bit slow to get on board
the GTS bandwagon, but it has been a flawless bike and it still looks and
runs like new!

Last time I was around there was someone talking about getting a special run
of air-filters made for the GTS. Did that ever happen? I had put my name on
the list of people who wanted to buy one... If anyone knows about this I'm
(still) very interested in getting the replacement air-filter.

I live in the Santa Cruz Mtns and ride every weekend if anyone would like to
go. I just rode to Tahoe over the weekend (547 mils round trip)and often do
long rides out of the Bay Area into the Sierra's with a buddy who has a
Ducati Monster~Not to worry about the Ducati(s), the ol' GTS is always in
the lead of our group and is well respected by all as a very potent sport
bike.

That's about it for now, I just wanted to say hi to all and I'm glad to be
back!

You messages are not MIME encoded, no matter what your mailer says. The
issue is (as you mentioned), the HTML message content. If you added
HTML,we would see the MIME header as well as the HTML content.

You are correct in that it is the HTML-ised message content that is
forcing the MIME header to appear.

It isn't the list. It is the individual mailers that show or not show the
mime header information. The MIME info is simple text that instructs a
compatable mail client on how to handle it. The list simply redistributes
the MIME header info just like any prose in a message.

The real problem folks have with MIME is when it is used for plain text
messages. MIME headers are appropriate for file includes, images, that
sort of thing (not on this list, though. :-). MIME is not needed for text
messages, yet some (microsoft) mailers add a MIME header that basically
says "Hey, this is text" which is redundant and confuses some mailers.

I could go on in more detail, but who'd want to hear it?

Peace,

With the exception of the brake, that's what I said. Feather the clutch

Can't use the rear brake if you are going at speeds below the stall speed
of the motor. Have to feather the clutch to stop it from stalling (and
dumping you over).

Rear brake is great for higher speed turns.

If they changed the pistons and cylinders, they certainly had to deal with
the head gasket. The head gasket fits between the cylinder head and the
jugs themselves above the pistons. They can be touchy to get installed
properly and the manner in which the head is torqued back on can make or
break a head gasket.

If the motor over heats, you are can see: Ring damage, piston damage,
head damage (warping), valve damage, etc.

Sure. I'll wager you can find a block test kit in a Parisian auto
store. It is a chemical indicator fluid that changes color in the presence
of combustion gasses. If these gasses are found in coolant, it is a very
good indicator of either a cracked block and/or a blown head gasket.

Yes, but check the raidiator cap first. If it is still failing, get the
block test kit from NAPA and test your coolant following the instructions.

If you can find one that fits, has the same temp and pressure stats, you
can use an off-the-shelf one. The trick is knowing these rad. cap stats.

I don't have my books here, or I'd see if they list them.

Absolutely. This should be the first step in any cooling system

That's a funny thing. Sometimes head gaskets leak water into the oil,
sometimes oil into the water, sometimes you get coolant out the exhaust
pipe, sometimes the boiling over is all you get. It depends on where in
the head the gasket let go.

Of course, in the really bad cases, when you drain the oil, you get a
milkshake. :-)

Mike,

This sounds like a classic case of a blown head gasket. Gasses from the
combustion chamber enter the water jacket and displace the coolent causing
a boil-over event. There is a test one can buy (from NAPA, I know) that
'sniffs' the coolant to see if there are any exhaust gasses in it. It is a
good test for a blown head gasket.

Ask me how I know about blown head gaskets...

There is the plastic deformation of the tire to consider. As it molds to
the road surface, it dissipates energy via shear deformation and alblation
in addition to friction. That's why wider tires are better than skinny
ones. The pure physics hold that the frictional force is directly
proportional to the force normal and the coefficient of friction only. Not
the surface area of the frictional zone.
 > > But you are correct with the physics.

I dunno about that. I don't know if the increase of the force normal
increases the rate of energy dissapation of the braking system. Kinetic
energy is 1/2 Mass * Velocity^2. When you increase the mass, the force
normal does increase, but I am unconvenced that it increases enough to
change the rate of energy dissapation to account for the increased KE.

Just shooting my mouth off, but I would like to do the math.

hit the fender!
I finally found a craftsman with the talent and tools to make me a set of brackets

They are perfect!! I can't believe how good the project has turned out. And the

I hope the electrical system can handle them, they don't pull that much juice from the

I hope to have some of these brackets avaliable for sale to my fellow GTS riders. I

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- A motorcycling enthusiast who applauded the state's new
helmet-free law has died as a result of a motorcycle accident in which she wasn't
wearing a helmet.

Dorthy Lynette Rushton, 40, smashed her Harley-Davidson early Saturday morning and was
thrown more than 50 feet. She died Monday from injuries she sustained in the crash.

Rushton probably would have survived had she been wearing a helmet, said Florida
Highway Patrol Cpl. John Schultz. He said alcohol was a factor but the lack of a
helmet "greatly" contributed to her injuries.

Gov. Jeb Bush last month signed into law a measure to let motorcyclists age 21 and
older ride without helmets if they carry $10,000 in insurance. It took effect July 1.

Friends said motorcycle riding was Rushton's passion -- especially without a helmet.

"Lyn wanted to do what she could, even in her death," close friend Kristi Piscitelli
said. "She knew this could happen."

I've been doing internet moto rallies for 9 years now and there is one
truth I know. If you hold it, they will come.

You will never:

1) Find a place everyone agrees to. (Too far, too close, too hot, too
cold, etc)

2) Find a date that everyone agrees to. (Too early, too late, it conflicts
with X, etc)

3) Find an agenda everyone agrees to. (I want nothing but carving sport
rides, I want a gentle sight-seeing ride, I just want to hang out, drink
beer, and be social, etc)

Pick a place. Pick a time. Allow for multiple agendas. Those who can make
it will, those who can't won't.

I'll be there, Gods willing, no matter where or when it is. I prefer
summer, and personally, I prefer somewhere I have not been before for
interest sake. That rules out most of the east cost.

Take care,
Mike

I am most likely going to host a regional rally in Johnstown, Pa. for the Concours

This will be the third time I've done this in Johnstown. Johnstown is about 50 east of

I planned on inviting all of the GTS riders on the list to participate, kind of a
"rally within a rally".
This cog event normally draws about 100 - 125 people.

The IPS is a simple pressure transducer. The easy and accurate way to test the
IPS is with a vacuum pump/gauge. Simply hook the IPS up to the pump, and apply
a *small* vacuum of, for example, 100 mmHg below atmospheric. Check the voltage
out by probing the back of the connector (one pin is ground, one pin is +5V, one
is the return voltage). Compare the ouput voltage and diagnostic code output to
the graphs in the service manual.

I volunteer. Maybe we can both get our bikes back on the road.

Mine has been dead for nearly two years. I've stayed on the list looking for
failures related to my own. I can't afford the $1500 parts and $ labor
for someone else to do the job either.

To make a long story short, my 93 GTS will not start. The failure was
sudden. The engine is getting spark, it is getting fuel, and the cam chain
has not slipped. There was no sound to indicate a catastrophic mechanical
failure of any kind. There is no fault code. I had an indication that the
IPS was giving bad readings, so I tested (then broke) and replaced the IPS.
Testing since has shown that the sensor is dead-on, though the bike still
will not start. My throttle position sensor also tests out fine. I swapped
in a "loaner" ECU from a list member (who chooses to remain nameless) and
the bike still failed to start and gave all the same sensor readings it
is possible, however, that the replacement ECU had failed in an identical
way. I still had indications of a bad IPS reading, so I unwrapped the entire
engine harness, and found one glitchy splice inside. The bike still will
not start.

In short, I'm out of things to try that don't require starting the bike.

What I would propose, then, is that I send you my TPS, my IPS and my ECU. I
know for certain that both sensors are fine. Swap in the two sensors and
see if it helps.

What you can then do for me is install my ECU (since your bike still starts,
at least). If the bike goes from giving failure indications to simply not
starting, but without fault codes, then I can confirm that my problem is my
ECU.

Let me know if this works for you, and send me an appropriate shipping
address off-list. I can probably get these off to you tomorrow, as my GTS
is still torn to pieces. :-(

God, I miss my bike.

I believe that I chose SA#8 a few years ago. To the best of my recollection
Kevin is #1, Shawn is #2, and I think that Phil should be #3 (when he
frequented the list with responses, I was quite entertained). My #8
standing was an arbitrary number. I'm not much of an SA so a higher number
wouldn't bother me. And, I think everyone should participate in SA comments
now and then. Makes my day. Steve

Hey Rob,

Great to hear your experiences at the TT. Thrilling and exotic locale, to be
sure: I raced a G-50 in the 1966 Senior TT, and the experience was
memorable. More important, it was survivable (even managed to finish, at the
back of the pack, which 65% of the starters didn't manage).

Early morning practice, and I headed at 150km. into the bright sun, through
scattered motorcycle wreckage. I thought Agostini had crashed, just in front
of me; it wasn't -- Tarquinio Provini came off hard, and retired from racing
soon afterward.

I also recall Hailwood wrestling with "wild bull" Honda 500 four-cylinder
monster around the course. The usual adjective used to describe the machine
was "unridable".

Slightly knew a young Japanese rider, who was killed at Cruickshank's in
practice while riding a prototype Kawasaki 125 twin. I helped with the
interpreting for the engineer from the factory who had accompanied him.

I hope to go back to see the events in a year or two, and would like to hear
your impressions about accommodations, prices, etc. Did you rent a bike to
go over (you didn't mention this so I guess not). Was such an arrangement
feasible?

Twisties by the pools!!

Well, we're back.

2435 miles, 6 days, 4 states, 2 countries and one 4th of July BBQ.

Our trip was to start at 5:00 PM on Thursday, June 29th. I would meet Stan
B, from the
GTS-1000 mailing list, in Portage, IN at the intersection of I-94 and state
route 249. As
usual, I was the late one arriving at 5:30 PM. After our "Are you ready's &
Do you have
everything's", we set out for our figure "8" tour of Lake's Michigan and
Huron. Our goal,
to find as many twisty roads as possible traveling these two pools.

We would interstate it to our first stop, the Super 8 in Whitehall, MI. The
trip from
Portage to Whitehall was rather uneventful, except for the missed exit that
was supposed
to keep us on the interstate. After a short detour, we were back on track.
We arrived in
Whitehall at 9:30 PM, EST. Big John's pizza was the meal before the hit the
sack.

We were on the road at 8:45 the next morning. We would head north on route
31 until
the intersection of route 31 & route 22. Route 22 is a nice road for the
midwest, long
sweepers and some trendy looking houses. It reminded me of Seattle, so did
the clouds in
the sky. After our gas stop in Frankfort, MI, the sky let open. It was the
midwestern
Seattle that I was in. Views of the lake to the left coming down a sweeper
were just what
I needed to take the gloom out of the day.

We stopped in Traverse City to call our respective offices. I had a message
from Ryan,
from the TL1000 mailing list, to call him when we were going to be in the
U.P. Maybe
by force of habit, I deleted his message before I wrote his phone number
down. Doh!! I
called the office back to see if he had emailed me his number, but my boss
said that he did
not. I asked my boss to try to email him. Ryan did call on Wednesday, July
6th.
Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to meet with each other.

Stan and I talked about where we would have lunch. I received a number of
email
recommendations not to miss route M119 and Legs Inn in Cross Village, MI.
That would
be our stop. M119 is probably the best road we were on the entire trip.
It's a 1.5 lane
road, that's under a canopy of trees, not fast - 40-50 MPH. Left, right,
right, left. It's
called the Mini-Dragon. Just watch out for the bicyclists, there were a
number of them.

The fun part of M119 ends/starts at the Legs Inn restaurant in Cross Village,
MI. They
serve Eastern European/Polish style food. Being that both Stan and I are of
Polish
descent, of course it wasn't like back home at Mom's but it hit the spot.
Great view of the
lake in the backyard. Sto Lat!!

We were back on the interstate after lunch, I-75 to the Mackinaw Bridge. We
paid our
toll and stayed on I-75 until Sault Ste. Marie, MI/ON. Hello, Canada!!! We
merged with
Trans-Canadian 17 east. At 6:00 PM Chicago time, we were to get in touch
with Shawn,
from the GTS-1000 mailing list. Shawn was in Chicago on a business trip and
would be
leaving for S.S.M. at 12:00 PM Chicago time. We called Shawn but got his
voice mail.
Here we go, phone tag. We told him we had just crossed the border and were
planning on
staying at a campground somewhere between here and Espanola, ON.

We suited back up and hit the road. This time I was on Stan's GTS and he on
my CBR
600. We got as far as Bruce Mines before traffic came to a complete halt.
After about a
half hour, we got off the bikes and asked what was going on. The cagers
ahead of us told
us there was an accident somewhere up the road and wouldn't be cleared for at
least
another hour.

There was an officer that was rerouting traffic. The detour that he was
suggesting would
take us out of our way 50-100 miles. When we pulled up to him, we asked if
he knew of
the nearest campground. "Sure, right there" he said as he pointed to a
campground not
100 feet away. Stan and I looked at each other and we both knew our ride was
over for
the day.

Stan set up camp while I returned to town to gather up dinner. I asked if
they sold drinks
in town but they didn't. The town about 10-15 back did but they close at
9:00 PM. It was
8:45 so I decided not to chance it.

We were to wake at 6:00 AM the following morning. After the alarm went off,
we were
back to sleep. An hour and a half later, Stan along with the raindrops awoke
me from my
slumber. " John, doesn't that clock have a snooze alarm on it?" Stan asked.
"Looks like it
doesn't" I told Stan. We were on T/C 17 at 8:00 AM.

Shawn told us there was a sportbike rally going on in Parry Sound, ON this

I agree with the S100 thread. But before doing that, I'll spray WD-40 on a
rag and work the chain lube off of the wheel. Then it's on to the S100 for
a total clean up of the wheels. On the rest of the bike I spray a 50/50 mix
of water/Mr. Clean. Typically I only have to sponge the bugs and wheels.
The rest just rinses off. Oh, wet the bike first.

Certainly a bad master cylinder can be intermittant. I've had it happen
before. When the seals get dodgy, anything can happen.

others.

Very likely a fluid leak with air in the lines. Possibly a bad master
cylinder.

Flush the system and make sure that the pistons move freely in the
caliper.

You've got some damage in your wiring.
When you are in a low power mode, both light. When it is high power (brake
light), there is only enough for one, the other bulb is starved.

Trace the wiring harness and find the bad connector.

Now isn't that the truth. I'm planning on taking the Calif motorcycle
driving test in another week. I've tried the circle and the GTS will make
it thru just barely. It's going to be tough I'm sure. I have no idea how
this circus trick is supposed to prove my ability to pilot my GTS on the
highways and streets. I guess my fellow motorist can rest assured that as I
come to a slow rolling stop, I won't fall over on them. I do understand the
need to control my bike at slow speeds, but based on the size of that circle
they seem to think evryone rides a 600cc or smaller.

I was out riding thru the mountains this weekend, and I came across a group
of Harley riders that took a curve to fast. One of them couldn't make the
turn and ended up in the dirt. The rider was OK but his bike looked like it
ate a lot of dirt. Perhaps a drivers test at Laguna Seca for a quick
checkout on the twisties would be more fun than driving in a small circle at
the DVM.

Helmet thread

Howdy all,

It is time to let the helmet thread die, please. It seems when ever
motorcyclists get together long enough, this topic comes up. I've got
scars from years of helmet wars. No one ever changes anyone elses mind.

Lets just let it go, then focus back on our beloved bikes!

I'll help:

I've noticed that my fuel gauge is wacky. It reads full most of the time,
regardless of the fuel level. Further, the low fuel light still works
properly, judging by the milage traveled when the light is on. I'm pretty
sure this rules out the sender, as I expect they both use the same sender,
there-fore, it is the guage or some wiring to the guage. Has anyone seen
this?

I have a pair. We where disapointed with the product. There were a lot of

Unfortunatly they don't have a squelch adjustment to disregard weak signals.
We return the product and they installed us a city mode button. We haven't tried
it wet. Also, I would like to have the possibility to have a push to talk button

http://www.garageofxanadu.com/RCR-IX/RCR-IX-Master.html

Pay special attention to photos 15 and 16 (my bike and me breaking camp).
The inside joke on Photo 15 is that on the sides of both of my saddle bags
I have NCC 1701 E. To the non-geeks on the list, those are the call
letters to the USS Enterprise from Star Trek. I figured the big bike with
the large saddlebags looked a bit like a star ship and the bags looked
like warp nacelles to me.

Also note photos 20 and 21 for some other perspectives on the "List of
4" GTS's at the ride. Photo 21 has the owner's on their bikes.

Take care,
Mike

I noticed that too. I figured you took the other decals off or some such.

It is the Yamaha 'sport' shield. I ordered it with a group buy some time

Just finshed 5500 miles thru AZ,NM,NV,UT,ID,OR, and WA in 18 days. It was
awesome. Total Freeway miles were under 100. Those two items were the only

Photo from the RCR

2000-06-09 Thread Michael Weaver

Hey all,

If any of you could tolorate my rambling ride report, you will note that
we had 4 (count 'em 4!) GTSs at the event. I expect that is some sort of
record for unscheduled GTS content.

Here is a photo of all 4 lined up
http://www.arches.uga.edu/~weaver/gtsline.jpg

>From Right to left, the bikes belong to:
Jim Hoetker
Mike Weaver
Darren Wright
Mark Bergman

A few things of note:

We all have different windshields.
My bike is very dirty.
Note the PIAA lights on Mark's bike. He mounted them using a fairing bolt.
Jim's front shock is a Yamaha Stock shock with the chrome sleeve removed.
Moments after this photo was taken, we had to quickly move the bikes to
avoid a HUGE 5th-wheel RV that wanted past.

Take care,
Mike

Copyright discussion

2000-06-09 Thread Michael Weaver

Hey all,

Just a gentle nudge, the copyright discussion is a bit off topic for the
group. Lets take it off line.

One parting shot: Regardless of how you feel about it, duplicating a
copyrighted work without permission for distribution is illegal. Please
don't solicit this or offer this on the list. I'd like to keep discussions
of illegal acts offline (I know, it is a "little" crime, and we talk about
speeding too, yada yada yada).

Thanks,
Mike

Ride Report RCR IX

2000-06-07 Thread Michael Weaver

Howdy all,
[Note: this is posted to both the East list and to the GTS list]

The wife and I made it back safely and in good health.

Short report:

It was great. I laughed, I cried, I fell down, it changed my life. It was
better than "Cats."

Long (er) report:

We left around 10 am on Friday from Atlanta on a FULLY loaded
GTS-1000. Cruised along happily for a while then promptly got stuck in
traffic. Woo hoo. Hit 411 north to try and get some entertainment. This
was a mistake. This road is not fun. We rode it all the way to Maryville
where we stopped at the College to look around. My wife graduated from
there a while back and she wanted to look up some old profs. Back on the
bike to Knoxville, where we promptly got lost and stuck in traffic. A map
purchase and a drink later, we were back on track.

To the slab, young man! We hit 75 north of Knoxville and jammed hard to
Renfro Valley. This had the lovely side-effect of getting us there before
dark, which I think is a personal best for an RCR.

After friendly greetings, tent setup, boots off, and beer, we settled down
to work our jaws well into the night. It was great seeing the crew again.

The next day, off to breakfast at a quaint local eatery. After that, Dave
Lawrence, James Revell, Liz and I went to Cumberland Falls for some
hikeing. We had a lovely 3 or 4 mile hike and saw some really nice
landscape. The falls were very nice and worth the trip to see. After the
hike, we stopped at the park lodge for lunch. On the way in, we saw a
group of bikes in the parking lot. I noted that one was a GTS-1000
(93). Hmmm.

We went in and I spotted the fellows riding the bikes eating. h..

After lunch, we went up the road a bit and went on a 45
min. dirt-bike^H^H^H^H^H^H^H horse-back ride. This was most entertaining,
but my horse kept complaining when I tried to countersteer it.

Back to the campsite for the most excellent feast. More steak, potatoes,
and vegetables than I could eat, and that's saying something. At dinner,
we had some guests. Four nice gentlemen staying right next to us. One of
them with a GTS. Hmmm. Further inquiry leads to the conclusion that these
were the same gentlemen we saw at the lodge. Small world, no? Further the
gentleman on the GTS, Jim Hoetker, is a member of the GTS list. Very small
world indeed! This brings the number of GTS's at this event to 4, the most
I've ever seen in one place. Photos were taken of the four bikes in array
for posterity. After I get mine developed, they will be scanned and put
on-line (unless someone beats me to it).

A night of beer, lies, and campfires commenced. After I crashed in bed
around 1, I was sung gently to sleep by the just-weaned calves in the
field nearby. I dreamt of steak and hamburger all night.

The next day, a breakfast run was done then the packing commenced. After
goodbye's, we hit the road back with Wayne and Vicki Orwig. We took the
slab south to US 129, then took 129 to Georgia. This took us through
Deal's Gap. Whew! The GTS's rear shock is sacked. I didn't realize how bad
it had gotten until I tried to hustle it through the Gap with that much
weight on it.

We made it home in due course, well tired but triumphant. In all, an
excellent RCR!

Thanks go out to the Oompah and his wife for a great job with the
RCR. Thanks also go out to GTS'er Mark Bergman and his wife for sharing
the fabulous photos and stories of their trip in Turkey and Europe at
large.

Thanks go out to Jim Hoetker, Mark Bergman, and Darren Wright for their
part in making the RCR a mini-GTS meet!

Take care,
Mike

Get a 120/70 front and keep it at around 38 psi. The rear 170/60 is just
fine unless you want to go posing with a 180/55 which fits nicely too. Keep
it at around 40 psi.

I think that a 'dry' battery, that is still sealed for shipment, should
last quite a while. What would deteriorate on it? Lead acid batteries fail
due to physical damage (bad cells due to broken connectors, common on
motorcycles), sulfation due to discharging, etc. Since the acid isn't in
the battery, sulphation isn't an issue. Since it is on a shelf, physical
damage isn't an issue.

Dunno, am I wrong?

The bike has never been down although it did suffer some minor scratches on
the frame from my dad puting the lawnmower in the garage. It is all original
(minus slip-on and decals) slip-on is a Leo Vinci. Has 8600 miles, 57 miles
on new Metzler tires and new battery. If there are any suggestions, I can be

PS. Bike is located in Eastern PA.

It comes on all the time, esp with high speed runs. At least you know it
is a oil level light, not a pressure light as I thought when I first saw
it (it took an hour for the papitations to quit). The light is very

Sunday night I tried to adjust the chain...should be an easy, 15 minute procedure,
done many times before...right?

The rear caliper retaining bolt was very tight--I needed a 6" extension on my socket
wrench to loosen (yes, the correct direction!) it at all. Normally I just loosen the
bolt, adjust the chain, and re-tighten it (with a torque wrench if possible). In this
case, since it was so stiff, I decided to remove the bolt, so I could clean the bolt
and threads on the swingarm, check for corrosion, and replace the bolt (if needed).
After about 3/4~1 turn out (the bolt was clearly coming out--the sliding metal clip
and caliper were loose), the bolt sheared off inside the swingarm. Yuck.

The bike's now in the shop (FastLane Cycles in Chantilly, VA) to have what's left of
the bolt drilled out. Since the swingarm had to be pulled for that little procedure,
I'm having the swingarm lubed and tapped for grease fittings.

I could do something like this, if needs be. However, we are such a small

I have, sort of. I ordered a smoked "Targa" brand sheild, and discovered that
it was
almost virtually identical to the stock sheild. I cut ~2 1/2 inches off it, and
it's significantly quieter than stock...in some ways. There's less noise, but
what there is is "different". The wind hits just below the helmet, which means
more air (good in the heat of the summer), but it's harder to duck below the
noisy parts.

Although I'm not Kevin, I do run Macadams on my GTS. I like them. They

Eclipse is no longer selling electric vests. I was hoping for a "going out
of the vest business" sale from the factory, but no luck. Maybe the local

There are virtually no sidecars in the US at all. I've probably seen less than
20 sidecars on the road (not at bike rallys) in 15 years of riding.

I doubt you'll be able to rent one. Your best chance might be to check with a

Good luck...renting any motorcycle here is very difficult.
