Indeed - and I am happy to give it again at another time if people
want me to, though I suspect I probably need to work on the content a
bit - as you say it is very heavy on information, which is why Debian
packages has such a hurdle to get started...
Maybe incorporating the building of a new package would help.

I am also happy to help people with any packaging they want to do,
maybe doing some at a meetup

Anton,

Many thanks for a very enjoyable day. This was the first HantsLUG
meeting I had been to, so I have little to compare it with. The talks
were all interesting, though some seemed to whizz by - will some of them
make their way to the wiki? Tony's talk on the structure of debian
packages was particularly dense (in the information sense of the term) -
I made some notes but they need some work before I can understand them!

The lunch break was very welcome, though next time (hope there is a next
time!) another enforced beak in the proceedings might be an idea, to
enhance the social side of such a meeting. I came away not having had
the chance to mingle and meet familiar names as much as I would have liked.

The location (apart from the sticking blinds in the auditorium) was
superb. To be honest, that was one of the main drivers for my going - I
worked there for a year 26 years ago, and wanted to see how much it had
changed. The building I'd worked in (a 7-storey tower block, right next
to the main house) has, unsurprisingly, gone, but the elderly scale
model of the site near the lecture room showed it in all its glory. The
visit to the little museum was fascinating - I think the disk drive I'd
been working on was one of the exhibits, along with the circuit boards
we used (clever 4-layer jobs, with ground and +5v available at useful
intervals across the board, just in the right place for the TTL chips we
were using at the time).

Thanks to all the replies so far - some great feedback!

If we run another meeting at Hursley I want to focus on getting some
time in the schedule for playing with boxes, as well as encouraging
people to skip a talk they are not interested in to hang out in
another room (the whole ground floor was available to us)
The lighting in the auditorium was unfortunate - there are something
like 8 preset light settings that we could have tried so I will keep
an eye out next time to try and get it better.

I am looking into the networking, but I suspect wired networks might
be too much for our security rules.

It sounds like only having reception open for a fixed time wasn't as
bad as I thought it was going to be, and getting a few people late was
not really a problem.

Again, thanks to all that turned up (and also those that gave a talk!)

It was a fantastic opportunity, and many thanks are due to the IBMers who
gave up their Saturday to supervise the venue and contribute. Hursley house
is a great venue, the IBMers took care of security so it wasn't too much of
a pain, the networking worked well. Lunch in the clubhouse was great too,
not least because of the nice weather.

I think we were collectively a little overwhelmed by the venue, because it
didn't feel like a normal LUG meeting. Even though there were could numbers
at the meeting, because of the scale of the venue I felt we were rattling
around a bit. We could do with encouraging people who aren't interested in
a particular talk to hang out in the seating area and chat. The lighting in
the main presentation room wasn't fantastic either, all the speakers were
quite strongly backlit due to the blind not closing. This made it difficult
to see their faces.

Thanks,

Tony

Hello Anton

I personally found the venue to be a nice friendly atmosphere,
efficiently organised and in a wonderful building too. Terrific lunch
venue on site too, although altitude sickness nearly set in when
fetching coffee ;-)

I liked the separate rooms for talks and general gathering. I especially
enjoyed the talk by andy, i guess he could go on for hours.
I'm hoping he volunteers for the house that twitters part 2 hint hint.
As I could do with some tips on connecting my current cost to the lappy.

Anton, the meeting when very well as far as I was concerned and I
enjoyed it. However I would not want such a meeting very often as I
find the BAB meetings at Southampton the most useful to me.
