All I got to say is ROFLcopter. I was laughing my ass off. BTW, I have had not one crash on my gaming machine with Vista Ultimate on it since I installed it. Go figure eh? Also, only one Crash on my Laptop. Now for using other Virus software you can. But you need to know how turn off the Windows stuff. I use Norton 360, I know it is kind of lame, but it was free and got it running on 3 computers which is in the license agreement. I agree the computer asking me if I am sure if I want to run this in admin mode. I have a lot of Gaming stuff t hat needs to have it running in admin mode in order to work. Gets annoying every time I turn the computer on or reset the computer. If you have a computer that was updated within a year or so of release of Vista you should be ok. I do not recommend using it as an upgrade OS, but if you buy a new computer you'll love it. All these Caps being damaged messages reminds to let you guys know that you can drastically reduce the problem by actually buying high end Power Supplies. If you spent $50.00 or less on a power supply, well may I say you get what you paid for. The power supply is the most important part of the whole computer, not the CPU or RAM. If you get a power supply that sends bad voltage to the motherboard and other components in the computer, you're going to have a crappy computer. As you can see I am a big proponent of Quality Power Supplies. If you use a gateway router you only need one address. Also, Network will be semi secured :) But if you decide to go the way your thinking, they give you a list of addresses you can use. You can use those addresses anyway you like. Well it is quite simple. After you select your DSL modem and Gate Router. I myself use Linksys Cable Modem, Linksys 4 Port/Wireless-N Router and a 8 port 1GB Switch. The 1GB switch is for the high speed transferring and streaming data off of itunes server. OK Tim, Believe the router is a gateway router. Maybe not. How would I know? From my LAN's perspective, I am treating it as my gateway. All my clients have the router's IP addy as their gateway on the tcp/ip tab. It more than likely is a gateway router. Most are. Q1: I use Eudora. BellSouth seems to be dead to Eudora. A faq lists these email clients: Netscape 4.0, 4.5 to 4.77, 6 or 7 Outlook Express Outlook 97/98/2K/2K2 Hmm. But, later on (more faqs) I find a setup procedure for Mozilla Thunderbird. So, all you TBird users, please advise. I do like/own Eudora (v5.1.1) and would like to continue unless it really is dead. Current plan is to use the Mozy setup once the channel goes hot and see what happens. Easy to fix. Just use the Pop and SMPT information they use on Outlook to the other programs. I use Outlook now because I put client/friends info and make appointments within Outlook. Q2: Seems the Bellsouth blocks/filters port 25. Believe this is PoPmail port. Can I switch Eudora to IMAP and truck on with Bellsouth? Most Internet providers do this. I have problems sending mail via my work address. I just use my home address to send it with a reply-to my Work Address. Q3: Bellsouth uses the same server (mail.bellsouth.net) for both inbound and outbound mail. Is this normal? I do know that they seem to have extensive spam, junk, etc, filtering. Perhaps this is a good thing. :) In most cases it's the norm. I have seen it like a lot. So I check out the news server for Bellsouth and find that it is: (should I choose to do Opera or Agent!) nxdomain.guide.opendns.com 208.69.32.130 and the server is in San Francisco, CA. Q4: What's up with this? Are the news channels still as polluted as they were in 1999? Oh! Ya they are polluted with spam and pron like in those days. So far, so good. Learning Vista? What the heck? If you don't like the or have problems With Windows Aero, you can set it to Windows XP look. I for one think it is much simpler to use. But then I am used to Linux, Mac and XP before hand and have a decent understanding how OS's work. I suggest you take a look on a computer demo at Best Buy or Fry's Electronics. Move around on the desktop and see how effortlessly it is to move around. The only thing I do not like it wants you to confirm to run application in Admin mode, which can be a good thing. I use Vista Ultimate on my laptop and Gaming computer. I have only minor problems, but Vista has worked very well. Vista only has an issue with SLI. nVidia has been lagging on this problem. Although, I have recently replaced my 2 nVidia 7900 GTX's with 1 8800 GTX and I get more fps in World of Warcraft and other games. The Peripheral manufacturers need to work on their drivers for Vista. This is the only problem. If you don't use a Soundblaster sound card or nvidia/ATI video cards you may have problems with Vista. Also, Vista 32-bit is the only one I would recommend for gaming atm. If you do get Vista for gaming get Premium version or higher. Salutaions. Does the computer run in safe mode? If so you can see if anything runs there. Also, Check the Task Manager and see if there is any software running that looks fishy (Pun intended). There is a lot of Spyware that locks computers down and do not let you run certain utilities. I have seen this in the past. The funny thing is the person who owns the computer has no idea how they got in there. You need to remember that Windows XP does not support FAT32 drives over 132GB natively. In fact I have found drives formatted in FAT32 over 132GB do have a tendency to corrupt. So, heavy so so. It's not really that much of a dust magnet. We sent one to NY a while back that was a dead silent 8800GTX build; water cooled CPU; water cooled SLI-8800GTX. Bad thing about it: had to be Vista 64, and right now, Nvidia's driver support for Vista, and especially Vista 64 SUCKS. Absolutely SUCKS. It's just one of those things.. in XP, he gets full SLI. In Vista 64, Vista only sees 1 card, and he gets way slower performance. The 680i chipset, for all of it's pros, has some issues still. Asus came out with the P5N32-E Plus, which is a hybrid chipset, the 650 northbridge and the AMD 590 southbridge.. so you get full x32 SLI, but it's so much more stable under Vista 64 that it's sickening. Nothing wrong under Vista 32 or XP with the 680i, but under Vista 64, the P5N32-E just slices and dices everything out there. I'm going to try to take a lot of pictures today and post links, get this list back on hardware. I checked the benches for what's being built and at least I can get some good pics of an AMD Quad system, and a few other oddballs I can get some pictures of to post and get some hardware discussion going :) FYI- I am piling up in the backchannel and have now heard from 12 people who say they can't post and keep getting bumped. I really do not care for the silence of a CPU at this point. Although, I do not want it too loud. I will post specs on the computer Soon. This computer is new and worked well over the weekend as a burnin. Now I have just noticed the CPU temperature getting to high. I ordered the ThermalTake Tower112 with 2 of the Fans for it. Let's see how it works out.
