[ha-Safran] Ebooks and audiobooks in Hebrew and English available from Israeli public libraries

2020-02-16 Thread Diane Romm via Hasafran
I recently found out that Israel has launched a digital library through its
public library system in conjunction with Overdrive. They are offering free
downloads of ebooks and audiobooks in a variety of languages to anyone who has
an Israeli library card.

Here's the site:

[ha-Safran] Ebooks for Jewish Libraries

2018-06-16 Thread Israel Cohen
Hello Karen --

I suggest examining the *Calibre* eBook management
application to see if it is suitable for your
needs. Watch the easy-to-understand demo narrated by the application's
founder who has an Indian English accent. One of its features is the
ability to search the web for available copies of an eBook by author &
title and display the results sorted by price.

i use *Calibre* to produce eBooks from MS Word
input. Our eBooks are available in PDF, ePub, AZW3, and/or MOBI formats.

   - A Kindle reader can display AZW3, MOBI and PDF formats.
   - The Nook and Kobo readers can display ePub and PDF formats.
   - Laptops and PCs can display Word and PDF formats.
   - iPads can display a variety of formats but usually require a special
application for each. The Office application to *display* MS Word files
on an iPad is free, but creating or editing Word files on an iPad requires
   an Office 365 subscription.

The *Calibre* application can display all eBook formats on a laptop or PC.
It can also mimic the appearance of text displayed on an iPhone or Android
device.

I work as an English editor of academic publications, mostly written by Tel
Aviv University (TAU) faculty.
Some
 of these
eB
ooks
we have produced
would be an interesting addition to a Jewish Studies library:

   - *Why Was the State of Israel Really Established?*

   by Erez Casif
   -
* Moses: The Righteous Sky Gazer
   *

   by Shlomo Giora S

   hoham

   - *Martyrs and Heroes*

   by Shlomo Giora Shoham
   - *Oedipus in Jerusalem*
   , a play by Kalman
   Kaplan

   - *Love and the Israeli Terrorist Terminator*
    by Macabee Dean

[ha-Safran] Ebooks for Jewish Libraries

2018-06-15 Thread Karen Schlosberg

In order to reinvigorate our library, we are exploring transitioning to an
e-library with downloadable books. I am seeking information to determine if
there is a Jewish library system for e-books, the software needed, if networks
of different area organizations can be included in a subscription.

Thank you,

[ha-Safran] ebooks

2016-03-23 Thread Israel Cohen
Nina Stenzler asked for information about eBook lending programs.

I have some recent very favorable experience with *Calibre,* a free eBook
Management application. I used it to convert a Word file containing Prof.
Shlomo Giora Shoham's *Language, Culture & Myth: The Power of the Word* to
various eBook formats.

*Calibre* (French spelling) can be used to search for eBooks on the web by
author, title and/or keywords and sort the results by price, to convert any
eBook format to any other format, to obtain from the web, modify and store
catalog data about eBooks, to edit eBooks, and (for your patrons) to serve
as a PC or laptop reader for eBooks in any format.

You can see how to obtain *Calibre* and how I used it by downloading this
slide show from the public folder of my Dropbox:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2033458/LCM/LCM_PowerPoint_clean_4.pptx

*Language, Culture & Myth* is now available from Amazon at
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Language-Culture-Myth-Power-Word-ebook/dp/B01D24C9CM

There is a Wikipedia article about Prof. Shoham at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shlomo_Giora_Shoham
If you really want to know more about Prof. Shoham, get a copy of *Martyrs
and Heroes *at
http://www.amazon.com/Martyrs-Heroes-Shlomo-Giora-Shoham-ebook/dp/B00Z3W1UR2
Caution: *Martyrs and Heroes* is not for children or the faint-at-heart.

Disclaimer: I am the editor of both of these eBooks.

[ha-Safran] ebooks

2014-04-25 Thread Tpardo
Anyone else in a K-6 school library using ebooks?
I'm currently doing some research on what might be the best for my school.
So far Sebco and Capstone are top contenders.
Any particular recommendations for these or other options? Arguments for or
against?
Thanks in advance

[ha-Safran] EBooks

2012-05-02 Thread Joan Tedlow
Hi,

I'd love to read some comments (pro con) about making ebooks available
in our synagogue libraries.

I have several questions for those who stock ebooks: 1) Do you provide
readers such as kindles/nooks? If so, do you make them available for
listening in the library only or do you check them out to patrons? 2) Do
you buy the books or do you lease them from a company that allows you to
download them for a period of time? 3) How do you display the books so
that patrons can discover what's available? 4) Can more than one patron
check out an ebook at the same time? For a book club, for instance.

Thanks for your answers and comments!
