[hlds] Server usage statistics, how schedule the start and the stop, and more.

2004-07-13 Thread Fernando Manso \(BrOkeR\)
Hi guys, I'm new to the hlds world and some questions round my mind.

How can I log server usage statistics like players per hours, traffic
generated, cpu and memory usage, etc.?

What is the best system to schedule the start and the stop of a server?

And what is the best system, metamod plugin or something like it, to
auto-administrate the restartrounds and more of a match?

Thanks for your attention.

RE: [hlds] is WON being switch off end of this month ?

2004-07-13 Thread DarK
From my experience with steam, any WON mod with multiplayer capabilities
can be played under steam with a little tweaking.

This is basically how Opposing force is supported.

While the mod is added to the games list by valve, the dll that is used
on opposing force is a WON dll.

The hlds servers are WON dll's as well ... in beginning the mod wasn't
included in the HLDS update tool so we botched servers up... this lead
to the discovery that really any multi-player mod can be used on steam
and that hlds servers can be made up for them

I have just got CS 1.5 on the games list, though not done any massive
testing... the maps show up in the create server dialogue, and its
really easy to do

Copy the cstrike folder from your WON install to the following path

C:\program files\steam\steam apps\username\half-life\

Rename the folder to something like cstrike15, this allows the mod to
show up under the games list (cstrike is used for 1.6.) Then restart
steam. You should now have counter-strike under the 3rd party section in
the games list

That's CS 1.5 on steam!

HLDS servers are done in much the same way. Copy the folder into the
server directory and use the +game to start it.

Vac does not work on steam for CS 1.5

Another downside possibly is the log lines on the HLDS servers will not
include steam ids... but this can be worked around using metamod and a
plug-in

As a suggestion if people are seriously planning on doing this possibly
changing the liblist.gam file game line to something like

game Counter-Strike 1.5

So you get 2 different options on the server browser...

2 Screens of it working for the non-believers :D :P

1.5 has already been recompiled or whatever to run under steam. This
requires no work what so ever from valves part... what this means is you
can actually see a server list on the steam browser and continue to
play. I think basically the main problem is there will be no more VAC
for it, that's all.

WON will be shut down by the end of the month. We are currently using
a variety of delivery mechanisms to inform people, and have more
messages on the way (with more details).

Like I said then what's the big deal for them to state that
  here...once?
So your telling me Valve has chosen to inform only it's vac enabled
  won users?
That would leave out quite a few people.

It's not confirming to connect to a 1.5 server and see the message

[hlds] Machine Running Two Servers - One or Two Ethernet Interfaces Better?

2004-07-13 Thread Frank Chew
I have a machine that runs two CS servers. Currently I only have one
Ethernet interface, would there be any benefit to adding another NIC and
giving each server its own IP? Currently they are running as x.x.x.x:27015
and x.x.x.x:27016 and I am getting a fair number of collisions on the
network. Anyone have any experience with the actual difference? I do not
want to mess with it if it will not give me any benefit. The machine is on a
dedicated T1 with a switched 100bT network.

You can add multiple ips to one nic.

The only benefit is that those who join the server through the console
will not have to specify the port.

If I do, I'll be spamming all of the lists with it :-)

It really depends on what we can do with HL2 and whether or not the online
play is well suited to Deathmatch, and how much interest there is, and how
much time I have, etc. DM used to be very popular before the CounterShite
infestation, but I'm not sure what HL2 multi-player will be like.

Alternately, if you happen to have two DIMM memory modules,
