[hlds] Crash error, srcds.exe, revision 6

2004-08-24 Thread k2_1971
Just reporting another crash bug with srcds.exe.

Console begins to list several 'shutdown missing' errors, and then a pop-up
window displays this:

'The instruction at 0x011ff2f0 referenced memory at 0x00c20396. The memory
could not be written.

Click on OK to terminate the program...'

And as before, you have to click OK to get the server to restart if you're
running it as a service. ServerDoc doesnt catch this error either, but I have
let the author of that program know about it.

This is on w2k3 server (standard) on a P4 machine (HT enabled).

[hlds] HLDS Master .res file

2004-08-24 Thread Lackatee Mattergy

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Hi. I was wondering if HLDS has a primary .res file it reads (if available) before map
.res files.

I have a few sounds and models that do not belong to any maps. They belong to plugins.
I would like the client to download them when connecting to the server no matter what
the map is. Right now i have to put the files i want them to download in a .res file
for each map i run. Which is the obvious way .. of course. But it would be hell of a
lot easier if it was one file that i could adjust quickly.

Is there even a primary/master .res file? Or am i gonna have to stick to what I'm
doing already?

Any help is appreciated . Thanks. :)

There is no built-in method of doing this. If you're using plugins
though, there are some sound download managers available for AM/AMX, and
I would assume AMXX as well (though I haven't checked that).

Additionally, you can use ResGen from United Admins to not only make
your .res files, but you can also define a file that you want appended
to each .res file it creates. That file that's appended can include all
your customs. I've had some trouble with ResGen's output not being
entirely accurate, so you need to double check stuff. The easiest is
probably to use a plugin for your flavor of admin mod.

I can relate to this. I have kicked/banned cheaters using speed and aim
cheat hacks. I also got very STEAMED yesterday that when I reset my server
it did NOT keep the previous bans I have wasted countless hours spectating

I noticed that the statup of the server errors some message about not

Re: [hlds] precache error

2004-08-24 Thread Ooks Server
I just use adminmon with standard plugins + sank sounds. Others have ran
this map before with no problem, I'm not sure why it crashes on my server.
I'm working through a new mapcycle that has 183 maps in it, and so far this
is the only consistent crasher. I'm running a Gearbox server, and it's quite
possible that the problem isn't the map, but OP4. Since Valve is pretty much
ignoring OP4, I think I may be out of luck.

as I've run several of the badtaste maps, but it's been a while. I'm
not

crashing problems. Because my server has been so stable lately, I've
been
adding more off the wall maps to my mapcycle, and found a few crashers,
  this
one included. The log tells you absolutely nothing! It cuts off in mid

when
  it

It would be nice if HLDS would write something to the log explaining

If you use amxmod, there are a couple simple plugins that do what you ask.
The sound download manager by Ludwig Van can be used for more than just
sound files. I use it on my H-L server, with over 500 maps, to download a

Yeah, but that has a submitting process, but my idea would be that any ban

You have to write them using the writeid command. Otherwise they'll be
gone when you restart your server.

Is this a new feature to allow non-western ascii characters in names?
my terminology may be incorrect, but I think you know what i'm getting
at:

http://www.7inchtaint.com/p00p/wtname.JPG

his IP resolves to Phoenix, AZ so I don't think this can be chalked up
to a far eastern client.

I've had players on my server with perfect-looking arabic script names.

Re: [hlds] Im getting tired of hackers.

2004-08-24 Thread Ooks Server
The problem with ban lists like this is that sooner or later it will be
abused. Not all server admins are honest and ethical. So, I'm playing today,
and this kid keeps beating me. He/she isn't cheating, they are just better
then me. Since I run a server too, I'll just add this person to the global
ban list bwahahahaha

I'm not saying this is a bad idea, but how would you prevent this sort of
thing from happening? There needs to be some way to trust those that add
steam IDs to the list, and/or some way to verify that the people on the list
really deserve to be there.

I would like a general public banlist, aside from VAC, that admins can
download, and add to. Maybe a program that scans your banlist, uploads the
new ones to and online database, then downloads the newly compiled banlist
each night? I think that would work well.

Re: [hlds] Im getting tired of hackers.

2004-08-24 Thread Tony
Doubt it mate they why it works is a ban is submitted Demo has to be
supplied
3 admins must agree that the person is cheating after viewing demo
then and only then is the ban put on list, you cant just submit Steam id's
willy nilly

Writeid simply logs the bans in the banned.cfg.
