I just googled "steam id exploit" and found several references to this type
of exploit from back in 2004. Perhaps it's back again? If you dig deep
enough you will find a few discussions on how they can be STEAM_ID Pending
for awhile, and then basically manufacture a new ID on the fly.

Anyways, good luck with this. Thankfully we've yet to see it hit our Garry's
Mod servers. *Crosses fingers*

Anyone know of an exploit for source that allows you to come in as other
users/ips/steamids?

This makes it pretty impossibly to ban him and all you end up doing is
banning another person.

This a new nasty im not aware of any way to combat that?

Heres his psychostats sheet (a lot of the ips on there belong to people that
were playing at the time as did the steamids and names heh)

Re: [hlds] beta junk

2007-04-07 Thread [GS]Admin

Don't forget though especially in a pub server that pings are like FPS there
is no major difference as long as it's constant.Unless you are talking
100fps vs 10fps or 10ms ping vs 100ms but from 50-55 ping or something along
those lines isn't a huge difference as you are only talking 5 1/1000th of a
second. And your computer probably drops more information than that anyways.

All this beta stuff is great and I applaud VALVe for their efforts? But
complaining without an explaination of how you have your server setup is
like shooting black birds in the dark. And obviously as anything software
goes results do vary from machine to machine and O/S to O/S.Give em alittle
time they will striaghten it out, unless they come out with a new game.(Sorry
had to take a low shot hehe)

i found the beta to be junk
1.none of the usual console errors are fixed,
2. i get the same 512 fps from console on a stock server
3. pings did appear to be more level, but at a higher ping in general by
5ms
or so

Looks very much like STEAM_ID_PENDING improperly handled by PS3.
Nothing to worry about.

Re: [hlds] More lag w/ Beta.

2007-04-07 Thread Kevin Ottalini

This is the win32 list you should be posting on the linux server list, but
in summary:

clean non-beta linux install, you should see this:
--

./steam -command update -game dods -dir .

Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Materials' version 8

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Models' version 4

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Sounds' version 4

Checking/Installing 'Day of Defeat Source Base Content' version 17

Checking/Installing 'Source Dedicated Server Linux' version 75

HLDS installation up to date

=

clean Linux Beta install you should see this:

./steam -command update -game dods -dir . -beta srcds0407

Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Materials' version 8

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Models' version 4

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Sounds' version 4

Checking/Installing 'Day of Defeat Source Base Content' version 17

Checking/Installing 'Source Dedicated Server Linux' version 77

HLDS installation up to date

===

running win32 hl2mp beta, the version information:

Protocol version 7
Exe version 1.0.0.12 (hl2dm)
Exe build: 20:48:41 Apr 4 2007 (3070)

running linux dods beta, the version information:

Protocol version 7
Exe version 1.0.0.7 (dod)
Exe build: 14:43:53 Apr 2 2007 (3068)

so 3068 is the current available beta build for linux servers and 3070 for
Win32 servers

I used this command -> ./steam -command update -game "dods" -dir ./
-beta srcds0407

And as i got the built 3068 it looks working (and i got back the files
from bin directory which i deleted before).

And how to get this built? I deleted the content of the bin directory
that he is forced to re-download the content and i used the "-beta
srcds0407" but i still get the 3068 and not 3070.
