[hlds] Poor TF2 performance with recent update?

2008-02-15 Thread Andrew Armstrong
This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Hi,

Is anyone else experiencing poor performance related to the latest TF2
update?

I don't believe it's the servers themselves (at least, according to our
usage statistics, CPU and memory use is the same as the last update) but
there is a definite lag/jerky feeling for players, myself included, after
this update.

A few threads on this issue:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=653534

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=653958

So I am not alone - Wonder if this is a known issue?

Regards,

Andrew

Re: [hlds] RE: [hlds_linux] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server Update Available

2008-02-15 Thread Prezident

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
I'm noticing now on a lot of custom maps that do have timers and even with
mp_stalemate_enable 1, suddendeath is not kicking in when the timer hits
0:00, on maps that I know for sure used to do it before the Feb 14th update.

Couple that with having mp_teststalemate having been removed on Jan 25th,
and things are starting to look bad here.

Please bring back mp_teststalemate, and let us know why suddendeath isn't
kicking in on some maps now.

Thanks,

Prez

We have a dedicated server up and running and we usually have a few
customs on and we haven't had any problems since the update except
one. On this one particular custom map, it just crashes when the
server loads it. This map definatly worked right before the patch was
released so it's something that you guys have changed that's causing
it. Should I email the MDMP.

I've updated PLR to work with DEP enabled. Get 1.2.1 from the website.
Remember, it only works with at most 32 players. If you try 33 or more, your
server will crash due to limitations outside of my control.

RE: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server Updated

2008-02-15 Thread Eric Smith
The first three values mirror the behavior in Counter-Strike Source and
other Valve games:

0 = spectate all players, all modes

1 = spectate only your team, and only first-person

2 = no spectating when you die

The new value is 3, and this is the default value for TF2 (unless you
override it in your server.cfg). This behavior is what everyone is used
to for TF2:

3 = spectate only your team, first-person or chase-cam

mp_forcecamera does not restrict players on team Spectator...only
players who are on RED or BLU.

If you have .mdmp files from the server crashes, please email them to
me. We're looking into the problems.

I was also getting crashes every few minutes until I changed
mp_forcecamera
to 3 from 1.

Gmail messes up sometimes when other software quotes text in obscure
ways. For example, somebody yesterday had each word in a quote on its
own new line. Sometimes strange headers don't get blocked too.

I never changed mp_forcecamera on my server so it new crashed :). Which
easily explains why I was one of the people who had a server up since the
update whit out a single crash. mp_forcecamera 3 is the default.

Gmail automagically hides the quoted text. Surely if it's such a big problem
some of you could invest into an email application that does the same.

2008-02-15 Thread Steve S.
hltv only works with a specific setup. What you need to do is start it up
with something like this

hltv +connect 7.7.7.7:27015 -ip 8.8.8.8 -port 27020 +rate 3500 -maxclients 16

setup hltv.cfg like this

hltv.cfg-
// HLTV Proxy configuration file

// HLTV proxy runs this file on start up
// This file should only be edited if you want to broadcast a game

// set HLTV proxy name as shown in score board
name"name that shows in game"

// set HLTV name, how it should appear in game server browsers
hostname"name of hltv server"

// set offline info text clients will see as reject reason if HLTV isn't
broadcasting yet
offlinetext "Sorry, game is delayed. Please try again later."

// delays broadcasting for 30 seconds
delay 30.0

// allow 3.5 KByte/sec as client rate. This is good a value
// for internet broadcasts. On LAN you may set this value to 1
maxrate 3500

// log HLTV console in proxy.log
// logfile 1

// local chatting for HLTV spectators enabled
chatmode 1

// if game server is password protected, enable this line
// serverpassword   "mypassword"

// proxy's adim password for rcon, commentator etc.
adminpassword "adminpass"

// show message for 5 seconds each 60 seconds in center of X axis (-1) and
// above help text bar (0.85). Color given as hexadecimal RGBA .
loopcmd 1 60 localmsg "http:\\www.mywebsite.com" 5 -1 0.85 FFA000FF

// hltv.tga will be shown instead of the default HLTV logo in spectator GUI
// bannerfile "hltv.tga"

// these commands will be executed on connecting spectator client and may
be used
// to adjust settings for HLTV (for example voice parameters)
signoncommands "voice_scale 2; voice_overdrive 16; volume 0.5; echo Voice

echo hltv.cfg loaded.

[hlds] Quoting Habits, part 2

2008-02-15 Thread Don Redhorse
I'm just making a suggestion... a valid one..

just take a look at how a subscription of this mailing list looks like..

oh sure... I could just get individual mails per post like I do for the
linux list... but is it really so much effort to at least not quote the
quote of the quote?

I agree 100% with Don, but you probably won't see it happen.

The thing to note is that to increase the probability that somebody will
read/respond to your posts is:

+ to keep the quoted content to a minimum
+ to respond ABOVE the quoted text, not below.

People will continue to do what is most comfortable to them, but I generally
don't read beyond the first 10 or so lines unless the message calls for
that.

Guys

could you do most of us a favor and STOP quoting ALL text for every
message you are writing?

If you need to quote please only quote the part which is necessary.

I don't even want to ask that you quote first and than reply.. which
makes also a lot more sense

Personally I find it extremely annoying to go through the jungle of
quoted text just to find couple precious words of wisdom buried in
there. I'm not damn Indiana Jones, I'm just lazy admin.

And I don't really care about people quoting too much - Gmail just
hides it, maybe you should get decent mail client instead of attempts
to educate people?

I have 3 tf2 servers on Win2k3 box, all running sourcemod with some
various plugins, 2 are running plr, one standard 24slot and all are
running fine, only thing ive noticed is from the start they are eating
~200MB memory where usually that didn't happen till 30 min into a map.

Also, awesome job on Badlands, different and way better than the
original and the standard tf2 gameplay.

Last I looked my dustbowl crashed every 20 minutes but my Badlands server has
been up since 5 pst. Dustbowl has sourcemod and Badlands is vanilla. Both on
different boxes and as far as I know both use AMD with Windows for sure.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2/Dedicated Server Updated

2008-02-15 Thread steve grout

Add me to the server crashes list..

We only have 2 servers, one is okay , the other crashes every 10 minutes
or so when full. We are running them both on linux and both have the
latest beetlesmod (53b). No other mods / addons installed. Both on the
same hardware aswell.

Very strange how one crashes and one doesn't.

Is this update for any Source-Engine-based game, or only for the orangebox?
(Source-TV slot, etc.)

This was under windows server 2003 and running the new badlands map.

It seems people are getting it on both windows and linux servers,
running any map and with or without plugins.

Anyway, it's time for us European people to get some sleep.. I can
barely keep my eyes open. :P

Will be taking a closer look in the morning.

Constant crashes here. Only on my custom map server. My 24/7

dustbowl

server
is just fine.
