Re: [hlds] Linux srcds performance unacceptable
I have noticed a decrease in performance, too. I'm running 32 slot server on X3350 quad-core xeon. Previously I had about 30-40% peak cpu usage for one core, now its about 50-70%. The server fps tends to drop to 40 sometimes... *clap*clap* Quoting Nephyrin Zey [EMAIL PROTECTED]: You can start a vanilla server with +maxplayers 32 and it will run. Valve IS one step away from naming the custom tab 'unsupported servers we hate', but that's besides the point. No hacks. But guess what? The server performs poorly on 24 players too. And 1 player. In fact, it just performs poorly. The title wasn't performance above 24 players is poor. Pretend I have a Xeon 3040 and am running a 24-slot server. Same complaint. Thanks for your opportune jumping into to act high-and-mighty because you support valve's max players recommendation, but it's not relevant to this thread. - Neph On Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 9:14 PM, Kevin Ottalini [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Nephyrin: TF2 is designed for 24 player servers not 32. Because the game still doesn't support multithreading, this means i can't run servers at all without maxing out a core. With 32-players on the server the FPS drops below 100 and while it still is smooth, I'm one patch away from not being able to run a single 32-slot server on a dual core xeon. This is absurd. When I started this box I was averaging like 70% per core, ~80% with sourcetv+autorecord. Now its at like 95% and my load average is hovering slightly above 2.0 Please, please, please work on server performance. There is no reason this much power should be required. Simple tweaks like fixing the way overuse of expensive kernel calls (gettimeofday, etc.), improving the obscenely stupid frame/tick system scheduling, etc, would yield massive benefits. If the next patch furthers the cpu usage increasing trend, I *will* be taking my servers offline, as I'm not upgrading (again) to keep up with bloat. Re: [hlds] tf_weapon_criticals 0 affecting the KritzKrieg?
It doesn't. tf_weapon_criticals have exceptions, like the Sniper headshots for example. Those are still criticals even if you disable it. The main problem with criticals that people had with is the randomness, so this cvar disable it. 100% crit is not random. Apparently they did for some and not others. One person I know, who had three of them legitimately and cheated for the rest got all medic ones reset. Another person who got 20 of them legitimately and cheated for the rest didn't get theirs reset. Aaron Rapp wrote: I'm not sure I understand CC2. [hlds] Remote reboot/Server Reset
I'm looking for a free/cheep solution to allow my clan members to reset the server from a remote location. The makers of Firedaemon put out a web based service controller for Windows a year or 2 ago, I believe it was called Paneldaemon. Free, and web based. Not sure of its final state and how secure it is, but something to look at. I think they have a professional product that does something similar as well. Ahh, Firedaemon Trinity, here's the quote from their product page: FireDaemon Trinity has all the features of Pro but also allows you to manage Windows services on your local machine, network or across the Internet. Product page: http://www.firedaemon.com/firedaemon-trinity.php $69, should be a small enough cost to get people to donate to? FWIW I think ServerDoc may have something similar? Rick Payton, I.T. Apparently, PanelDaemon has it's own homepage now, here: http://www.paneldaemon.com/ Again, I haven't used it since early 2006 I think (or late 2005?) so I have no idea how secure it is, but there you go. Re: [hlds] Feedback about this TF2 update
I'm really against the achievement unlocks. I know the novelty will die off and people will go back to balancing the classes, but once the next one is released, we'll have to endure servers of one type of class. It was really annoying watching 9 medics on one team ubering eachother and not helping with the gameplay. The game was miserable. I really think they should have released unlocks for one of the three class types to balance the spamming. Releasing upgrades for one class breaks the game for the first week or so while people try and unlock everything. Also, without third party tools, there's no ability to limit classes. That would have fixed this issue as well. On Wed, Apr 30, 2008 at 4:41 PM, Nephyrin Zey [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I agree. Aside from the unlock_all thing, I think it was a good patch. Re: [hlds] Feedback about this TF2 update
this is what i got from the person that was doing it and a screen of a spy using it. 11:34 PM - SakeFox: how is it done? 11:35 PM - XX: Yes, of course. 11:35 PM - XX: Lemme lay down the story for you 'cause it is a long one. 11:35 PM - SakeFox: ok, i just need to know how its done 11:35 PM - XX: Basically, I tried to use a command to trick the game into thinking I'd be set for the ubersaw. 11:35 PM - XX: And my load-out fucked u.. 11:35 PM - XX: I gotta finish or you won't understand 11:35 PM - XX: The loadout basically said ALL BLUTSAGER 11:35 PM - XX: ALL 11:36 PM - XX: As medic, I can only use the BLUTSAGER 11:36 PM - XX: ONLY 11:36 PM - XX: And 11:36 PM - XX: IT spawns a extra one under me any time I' 11:36 PM - XX: I'm supplied 11:36 PM - XX: Or respawned 11:36 PM - XX: If you press use (+use) on them 11:36 PM - XX: You get to use it 11:37 PM - XX: It's quite useless, as it will always have considerably low ammo, eat your secondary's and not do a lot of damage. 11:37 PM - XX: However, the effects of seeing a spy run around with it are quite lulzy. http://www.kingdomsend.com/miscimage/pl_goldrush0002.jpg Kitteny Berk wrote: Hmm, wonder if it's something like impulse 102 in cs:s (spawns skulls). [hlds] HldsSlowdateTool
Is it just me or is the HldsUpdateTool running slow for anyone else? Last time I updated(not yesterday) i could pull 50meg no problem. Yesterday it took me hours to pull the update and 15 min into it today and it has not even moved!! Tested on 2 networks and 2 systems with the same outcome. Valve what's the deal? You out the DS3 and opt for a 28.8 modem connection? ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds

A DS3 isn't that fast (45mbit). You'd think they went to a DS3 from an OC12 or something :P From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2008 22:47:19 -0500 Subject: [hlds] HldsSlowdateTool Is it just me or is the HldsUpdateTool running slow for anyone else?
