But I wanted to ask a quick question. Basically, I have an extra 32 slot server that is doing jack right now, and I was thinking about maybe turning it into a dedicated map development server. It's primary purpose would be for map makers to have a mainstream pub server to test their maps on and such. It would be donation-based and geared towards helping map makers debug, and at the same time grow the overall popularity on their map. Maybe even have a few lulz? I was just wondering about what you fellow admins thought about the validity of such an endeavor, or maybe if you knew anyone that would be willing to take advantage of such a resource. Anyway, like I said this isn't meant to be an advertisement of any type but I would appreciate some feedback regarding such an idea, or maybe just pass my address along to anyone you think might be interested. Re: [hlds] SDK update and server downloads
Can you use the same method used in Left 4 Dead's Survival mode where they blocked off large portions of the maps? Valve used .LMP files to achieve this. Does that work in TF2(S2K7)I'm sure someone with more mapping experience can go further into detail on this than I can, but basically you're loading the same map, but with the .LMP on top of it adding those elements. I'm not exactly sure how it's achieved, but someone here does and can probably be more articulate on the matter. Re: [hlds] SDK update and server downloads
Here it is: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Patching_levels_with_lump_files Support on that goes back to EP1, so if your changes can be done with lump files, you might consider that. I guess the problem with that is if someone else decides to use the same method on the same map, the naming convention used will end up being a problem. On the other hand, if it works like .BSP files in that if one already exists with the same name, the client will get an error about mismatched files, then as long as you get your .LMP to the client before anyone else you have nothing to worry about. :) -Richard Eid On Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 4:04 AM, Richard Eid richard@gmail.com wrote: Can you use the same method used in Left 4 Dead's Survival mode where they blocked off large portions of the maps? As long as you only change entities in the map, there will be no problems and players won't have to re-download the map. If there are any brush changes, then people will get errors and be kicked. Hey Alfred, Is this like the Half-Life 1 Engine beta hlds0319 update? Meaning, it was a published as a beta Half-Life 1 Engine update though released as a CS 1.6 update after several weeks? The reason I ask is we run a few TFC servers still and the hlds0319 tested fine for us though we missed out on the release because it was title a CS 1.6 release, lol. Anyways... figured I'd ask. Should we run the update cs0616 being it would more then likely impact the Win32 Server Engine again?
