[hlds] StackOverflow for Game Servers

2010-07-10 Thread StevoTVR
Apologies in advanced for this slightly off-topic post, but I think it's
relevant to this list.

StackExchange (the thing that powers StackOverflow) is accepting
proposals for new Q&A sites. So I submitted one for game servers. I
thought it was a good idea since the topic isn't really covered yet in
this format.

Anyway, in order to get to the next stage it needs to get 60 followers.
So if you like the idea, you can help out by following via the link
below. If not, please disregard this post.

http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/12553/game-servers?referrer=S0s951R7rmJUZvrx04eTvg2

If you aren't familiar with this type of site, it is basically a Q&A
site that allows users to ask and answer question. Good answers are
voted up until the best answer is chosen. This helps people looking for
answers in the future to sift through the noise. I think it's a perfect
format for game server questions.

Thanks,
StevoTVR

Re: [hlds] Help With "sv_pure" Settings to Block Cheating

2010-07-10 Thread HL-SDK Synths
Bypassing consistency is easy, bypassing pure is harder. No combination or
configuration will make harder since kigen's tool will attempt to Jerusalem
alongside settings. It is rendered impotent once cvars are renamed.

I would write a serverside anticheat if I got paid for it. Otherwise, you
are doing the best you can. You may contact me off list of you want to
discuss this further.

I'm currently running multiple Anticheats under SourceMod including the
latest Version of Kigen's Anticheat (THANK YOU Kigen! We love you!)
Regardless, aimbotters and several blatant wallers and aimbotters continue
to get passed the cheat protection we use and we can't stop them without a
ban. By the time the Admin gets the ban submission via SourceBans, the
damage has already been done. I'm currently running sv_consistency 1 and
sv_pure 1, but cheaters coming in (aimbotters are the worst!).

I want to rid our servers of as many cheaters as possible, most importantly
aimbotters. Can you guys offer any advice on how to best do this with the
consistency and pure settings yet still allow the custom server side donor
player models and the ability to spray in the server? Copies of white lists
would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

sv_pure 1 and setup your whitelist to allow sprays and the models that you
use. Whatever the paths are to the models and materials they use will need
to be whitelisted. Sprays is already in the file.
sv_consistency 1.

Maybe it's because I'm tired, but this made very little sense to me.
Therefore: What? Can you rephrase or elaborate?

Just to make sure, before continuing on: When you actually did the update,
did you do as you typed (-verifyall), or the proper "-verify_all"?

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike 1.6 Update?

2010-07-10 Thread Kigen
Seems like it was an update to all Steam GoldSrc/Source engine games
to fix a issue with steamclient.dll and that stuff. I guess that
connect exploit to cause the server to crash. I only saw the "beta"
update thread. But it appeared to me that you had to opt-in for that
thing.
