VAC bans are delayed, so they won't be instantly banned for cheating, they get flagged, and then banned like a week later so that if they used multiple cheats, they don't know which one got them banned. So much for getting this fixed in a timely fashion, it's still borked! Seems the only thing they were intrested in addressing was the damn gift drop frequency! Re: [hlds] Cheat Engine Report
I honestly think the major issue here is the fact that people seem to be able to make unlimited multiple accounts without any sort of oversight (either automated or manual). we have one particular nasty case of a player who loves to sexually harass female players, and is able to create a new account (with a dynamic IP address) and be back on our servers in under 4 minutes. To date, we've banned him over 20 times, but he simply creates another account and goes right back to harassing female players (along with the usual childish racist/homophobic stuff). I don;t know what the answer is, but there has to be some way to prevent the same people from opening so many accounts. Hell, I think that problem even caused the current contest/promotion to be gamed via the humble bundle Steam keys, etc. I really don't see why any more than a couple of accounts per household are even necessary, but it would go a long way towards helping us keep our servers clean if Valve could start preventing these people from opening account after account. Hellit's got to be messing with their internal stats as well - so many new accounts created by the same people has got to throw a wrench into their internal metrics. If thats TF2 and him using F2P accounts, consider using the F2P kick plugin. Another approach can be to give those female players miniadmin rights, so they can ban someone for a short time. Had to deal with about the same kind of stuff, where 1 player made it bad by cajoling up the others, this lasted some time, and went out of hand. We banned the guy, but the rest kept at it. I think is Valve should make TF2 $3.99 or something very cheap. Free is ridiculous. Serious players would obviously still buy the game and the free-2-play issue would be greatly reduced if not eliminated if this was done. At least charge something, even if it's just a couple bucks. Then you can block them via their credit card number, Paypal account ID, etc. Hell, most of these cheap-bastard trolls would probably stop just because they're too cheap to spend a couple bucks, and blocking mommy's credit card would end their rein of terror. Re: [hlds] Cheat Engine Report
Kicking all F2P isn't an option in my opinion, you'd be removing an entire playerbase over a few problem individuals. I also question the choice to hand out admin to players that are or claim to be female. The chance for abuse is just too high with an unknown individual; by the time anything could be done about a player abusing their mini-admin, it would have meant an ill experience for many players. I have to agree with E. Olson, valve needs something in place to prevent the creation of massive numbers of F2P accounts, I'm honestly surprised they don't already have something. When F2P was announced valve assured us that it would not mean a rise in cheaters. Quite frankly I believe they're not holding up their end of the bargan. I have no quarrel with the VAC system, it sucks that it won't do anything about cheaters right off the bat, but it's good that it prevents programmers from figuring out something is VAC detectable before some of their users are banned. Then you look back and see that TF2 is now F2P, anyone can make as many accounts as they wish, and you have to wonder what the point of having VAC is without a complimentary system to keep banned players off. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds

Re: [hlds] L4D2 Steamgroups Borked?
Actually, there was an odd performance issue that was affecting a lot of L4D2 players that I believe they wanted to focus on first. The issue ended up being caused by the Steam client, and a client beta is being tested right now. The player avatars not showing really don't affect the game like this performance issue did so the perf issue would take priority. -Richard Eid On Sat, Dec 24, 2011 at 3:41 PM, Robert Whelan mrrjwhe...@yahoo.com wrote: So much for getting this fixed in a timely fashion, it's still borked! Re: [hlds] Merry Christmas!
Atheist too, but then I still can be able to convey the message to wish for everybody a Merry Xmass? Its not about christ anyway, its some pagan ritual of like couple thousand year ago that us pagans used to have, 2 weeks of celebrations before turning to work again, before we where mandatory converted into christians. Oh, we had some rituals... lets put those in some biblical context... so we move the village tree from the outside into our houses, let them have a small stable with child Jesus in it and then its sanctioned... and that 2 weeks, let cut off every time a day or so, so it gets shortened to a day. But Jesus was actually born somewhere in spring if one would believe the scientist who researched the whole bunch, for the population count Maria was traveling for was then, not in winter. and oops, where off a couple years as well... should be like 2006 right now, or 2015, nobody knows exactly. The Apostles didn't learn to write till 65 AD or some. Well, back to the pagan rite, it was mostly to celebrate the midwinter turn, as from now the days become longer (on northern half of the world anyway). Yeah, yeah, that was the 21st... more influence from those Christian church. All of the sudden, the whole Christmas isn't about Christ, or about pagan rites or w/e. Its all make-believe. The wishes? its just wishing ppl to have a good time during those days. Thats bout it. If you feel offended by it, one should get some dose of humor for those ppl that in the past couldn't seem to get it right. so far we got: - Birth of christ: off by at least 3 months - pagan winter solstice rite, off for bout 4 days. - ehm? whats left? getting together and having a good time.
