Re: [hlds] Mandatory Team Fortress 2 update released
http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=6679 It was more than just one or two people. Community servers broke the rules (another example is cheating the tabs fiasco). If I were Valve, I would limit the community servers as well when it comes to drops and such. Re: [hlds] Mandatory Team Fortress 2 update released
Ohh look BF1 released today – looks like I’m playing a new game now that TF2 is ruined by lack of community support by Valve. From: hlds-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com [mailto:hlds-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of Rowedahelicon Sent: Friday, October 21, 2016 4:22 PM To: Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list Subject: Re: [hlds] Mandatory Team Fortress 2 update released I know you're all busy with the pyro update but this is a sad display even for a busy company. Again the Halloween event is focused around Valve servers, so again there's nothing for us communities who actually helped bring the game to where it is. Where do you think all the new community maps even come from? Was nothing learned when last year the TF2 player count spiked to 100,000 simultaneous levels and dropped back down again as soon as people realized that it was a money grab rather than anything uniquely fun? This also means these contracts, thank you for giving people an incentive to not bother with our communities at all, we can't compete with essentially play to win hat, or even pay to a chance at a box to send money over to you guys. Is TF2 just not making enough money? Back when the game was at its peak and keys would sell constantly, was that not enough? The community is not interested in this mess, Halloween used to be a great moment for community servers and community map makers, but every year it's slowly taken away from us piece by piece. And then look at the rest of the update, you're making a tool to give unusual effects to items, you're putting turbine in the competitive list? Does Valve have any interest in seeing what the community wants before tossing in random nonsense that hurts the core community? This game could be doing so much better even today, if there was just a bit more love and attention brought to it, instead of actively trying to strip it of all the parts that made it fun in the first place. Re: [hlds] Mandatory Team Fortress 2 update released
More people got into community servers through quickplay even with that shitty arrangement than compared to now. (before you tell me, yes I know saxton/trade/idle servers are doing better than before, but only because they are cannablizing the community vanilla playerbase). The official gamemodes still dominate the screen, I would say, even as much if not more than before. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds
Re: [hlds] Mandatory Team Fortress 2 update released
Because at the time, the Quickplay "press button to play" option dominated the screen, whilst community servers were a small button. They've got more visibility, yes, but Valve hasn't capitalised on it. Pretty much this. Valve, what the hell are you doing? One moment you're adding new stuff for plugin creators, the next you're starving community servers of players again. Eric, John, anyone who keeps an eye on TF2, please at least make an effort to involve community servers, because we want places to play that isn't just generic pub #8847392 full of kids and cheaters.
