[ Converted text/html to text/plain ] Osa! Agreed, BAT is nice and simple with little overhead. I do have customers that run sourcemod on TF2 and that works well for them. Re: [hlds] HL2DM Server now behind WG Firebox 700 was playable but not listed
CYKO, Most of the new stateful or "stateful like" firewalls feature anti-flood or DDOS protection. From what I remember from my days of deploying those evil beasts, they do have a DDOS feature. Based on the amount of traffic from one client to a server the firewall could be seeing that as an attack and blocking your traffic. Based on how advanced their code is, the firewall will either block your session or block all traffic to that port in an effort to protect itself. Make sure you have detailed logging enabled and reinstall the policy. Let us know what the logs say. Also, feel free to contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] for more assistance. I'm usually online between 1100EST and 0100EST. I work on firewalls for a living... or at least I have my bosses fooled into thinking that! :D These days it's mostly Check Point, PIX and Symantec Enterprise Gateway, but I might have a few tricks up my sleeve for WG. -D P.S. Re: [hlds] sv_downloadurl usage
In server.cfg enter the following: sv_downloadurl http://www.yourwebsite.com/sv_downloadurl Create a directory on your website called sv_downloadurl Copy the res, bsp, sound, etc. files into that directory. You do not need to copy ALL you game server files into that dir, just the custom ones you want to use. So, if I'm loading customer dod maps to the website I would extract the files from the zip. You should have folders like maps, sprites, sounds, etc. Copy those files/folders into your sv_downloadurl directory. Also, there are seveal stickies that describe this on the steampowered.com forums. I pay the extra $$$ so there is never any question as to who owns the domain. I've seen many people get a domain via third party companies and when they go to move providers they find that one of the contact accounts is the company they bought the domain from... next thing you know you're stuck w/o your domain. Well, you can pay a reasonable price and go w/ the GoDaddy's, Enom, etc. of the world or go with the "internics" of the world... today's Network Solutions. I have to be honest, I didn't read all the replies/posts, but this is what I use on my servers and I do have scroll bars. RE: [hlds] Server refuses to start secure
I managed to get the servers up and running w/ VAC; however it was a pain. Even with all servers set to not start automatically I had to restart each instance multiple times before it [VAC] would take. After the 5th or 6th restart VAC magically started working. Hopefully it will stay enabled this time. I did notice that on two of our very busy server that VAC wouldn't enable if the server was under load. Basically I restarted the game and we had 25 people immediately connecting. When that happened VAC would not enable. If I locked the server and restarted (again, after multiple attempts) VAC would enable. I then unlocked the server and restarted and we were back in business. I do have some addition test instances on this machine if further testing is needed. Thanks. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Stuart Stegall Sent: Sunday, December 04, 2005 8:17 PM To: hlds@list.valvesoftware.com Subject: RE: [hlds] Server refuses to start secure It can be a "permanent" routing problem. It might be legacy, but it was for increased performance using ping booster.
