I have a similar issue. It responds to RCON but not to queries or join

Fresh install. Same problem.

[hlds] Nuclear Dawn update 2 released

2011-10-20 Thread Olly Ginger
We have just put out update 2 for Nuclear Dawn, this requires a server
update. The change are listed below.

Additions
- Added some extra hints
- Added “_promote_to_commander” console command for plugin authors to
promote commanders properly. Please update your plugins to use this as
the current method of modifying the send table is causing problems.
This command expects 1 argument that is the player index of the player
to promote.
- Added team balance system. By default the teams will be balanced at
the end of each round. You can modify mp_autoteambalance to change
this behavior. 0 = No balancing, 1 = Only balance on end of round
(default), 2 = Only balance during the game if there are
[mp_unbalance_limit] more players on one team than the other, 3 =
Balance throughout the round and at the end of the round. You can also
modify mp_autoteambalance_delay to specify the amount of seconds into
a round that balancing will occur.
- Added German localization

General Issues
- Fixed the killcam effect when viewed from spectator perspective.
- Fixed the chaingun spin and other blended animation glitches in spectate mode.
- Fixed the flamethrower, blowtorch and other muzzle particle

illuminated markers!)

- Fixed Empire power lasers showing to the Consortium when an Empire
structure is shrouded.
- Fixed a few issues with the spawn selection after changing teams.
- Added more space between the spawn gates in all the maps to avoid
both taken out by one EMP grenade
- Fixed grenades not colliding with some structures
- Grenades now emit a bounce sound
- Ringing sound removed from being near explosions.
- Improved grenade physics
- Fixed grenade launcher grenades disappearing when fired at certain angles.

User Interface

visible when you click the InterWave logo at the bottom center of the
main menu.

- Siege weapon gizmos should now be functional again.
- Stabilizer gizmos should now behave as intended across all weapons.
- Made a pass of balance tweaks to each pair of automatic bullet weapons.

number of affected buildings and units per grenade and to encourage
better aiming with each throw.
- Reduced the general EMP effect time from 25/10 to 18/3 (max/min)
- Command Bunkers are now EMP-proof, and cannot be shut down

Levels
- Clocktower
- - Fixed framedrop in the underground area

- Hydro
- - Added a hole in the Empire spawn building so you need less relays
at the start

hide Empire power relays better

outside their spawn to make things more balanced (The empire are
unable to build inside their equivalent building)
- - Switched the team victory cameras round to show the correct ones
- - Blocked some visual errors relating to the water
- - Made it so you can no longer swim in the dam water (its now too
shallow so you should just walk)
- - Fixed commanders able to build in the primary resource pit

- Metro
- - Added additional no-build areas in the primary area
- - Adjusted no-build areas in the metro station, to fix commanders
building in the underground area

Re: [hlds] [TF2] Is it possible to replace sound files?

2010-04-08 Thread Olly
Most sounds locations are defined inside the different sound list scripts
(checkout scripts/game_sounds_manifest.txt). Depending on the entity and the
sound that is being played, the clients script will need to point to the
correct sound. Its not always a 100% server-side thing.

Re: [hlds] Problems with the server lists?

2009-07-15 Thread Olly
Try typing 'heartbeat' in the server console (without quotes) - If it shows
up (after a little wait) in the server browser, add heartbeat in the
autoexec.cfg

2009/7/14 shorec...@comcast.net

I noticed the other day that my NeoTokyo server wasn't showing up in the
server browser, so I emailed someone from Valve, whose email address I got
from another member of this list. He confirmed the IP is not on Valve's ban
list. I restarted the server and it showed up again. Now, I checked the list
and it wasn't on there. I tried changing the IP and it made no difference. I
go to look at the server list and it keeps changing the number of NT servers
that are showing up. First it was like 78, then 88, then 139, 67... and it
just keeps changing. Game-tracker.com shows 220 servers running. The only
thing I have in filters is NeoTokyo... nothing else.

I also noticed that my TF2 server is having the same problem. These servers
are on a dedicated box that has no firewall or port restrictions at all.
They show up fine in Favorites and History.

 Anyone have any ideas?

Re: [hlds] Looking for solution regarding CS:S server crashing exploit / tool

2009-06-26 Thread Olly
Yea, this video is just a fake to get people to buy it (posted on a site
somewhere im guessing).
You get exactly the same effect by typing;

rcon_address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:

and then just spamming

rcon whatever

After a few tries, the server will just stop accepting packets from your
connection (including ping packets) and make it appear that the server is
offline.

2009/6/26 bl4nk bl4n...@gmail.com

It looks like it might just be the failed rcon attempts or something.
The program just seems to generate a cfg file that you execute via
console, so that's about all I can think of.

 Hans Vos wrote:
  Hello,

official matches. Does anybody have more information and possibly a fix
  for this?

From what I've gathered so far that it is some kind of overflow script
which send a abnormal amount of connections to the game port. I have
confirmed there is a plugin which counts the amount of connections and
then blocks the IP. But I cannot convince this person to share this
  plugin with me unfortunately.

Nothing is shown in the server logs. Just a abrupt end of the log during
normal operation. No information to trace the user of the exploit.

Re: [hlds] TF2 required update released

2009-06-10 Thread Olly
If anyone has WinDbg installed (or even knows what it is), you can give
valve a clue as to where the problem is, by loading it up then;
* File  Attach to process
* Select hl2.exe (for the hanging server)
* In the window that opens, type: ~* in the box at the bottom then press
enter
* The first thread (first chunk of info) will probobly contain something
like 'server!+...' (... will be replaced by some stuff)
* Now type ~0s in the box, and press enter
* Now type K in the box and press enter

now paste all of the info that shows after typing the K command. Hopefully
if anyone from valve is reading this, they will be able to look at it, and
go.. huzah, and fix it pretty sharpish.

I've been having these random lockups since two or three updates ago.

Its probably something similar on that mod.

Check the logs from your download site for 404 - File Not Found errors,
it's probably a misspelt filename in a res file, a missing res file or
capitalisation in the wrong place (if its a Linux based web server)

It's wrong.

X value doesn't matter, it's 0 on all games except L4D where it's 1.
   It's
not account dependent. 0 or 1 just means user account.
Y is always 0 or 1, which is generated randomly when you create your

About the fraction, it's to convert from Steam community ID = Steam

Re: [hlds] Associate Names with a Steam ID?

2009-05-09 Thread Olly
According to valve X is something to do with the lobby, or the way you
connect to the server. I forget the exact answer.

2009/5/9 AnAkIn . anakin...@gmail.com

 It's wrong.

 X value doesn't matter, it's 0 on all games except L4D where it's 1. It's
not account dependent. 0 or 1 just means user account.
Y is always 0 or 1, which is generated randomly when you create your steam
 account.

About the fraction, it's to convert from Steam community ID = Steam id

 Take a Steam Community ID.
 like:
 76561198009024064

 76561198009024064-76561197960265728=48758336

 48758336/2=24379168

 So it's STEAM_0:0:24379168

 An other example:

 76561198008673707-76561197960265728=48407979

 48407979/2=24203989,5

 it's ,5, so it's STEAM_0:1

 STEAM_0:1:24203989

 2009/5/9 Daniel Duarte dfdua...@gmail.com

   STEAM_X:Y:Z
  http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/W
  W = ( Z x 2 ) + 76561197960265728 + Y

Nobody is arguing the merits of putting hard work into building a
community. However, not everyone is going to dedicate a lot of time to
it, or has the large friend network or knowhow to promote a new
community. Does this mean that they dont 'deserve' to start one? It
certainly doesn't justify using underhanded methods, but the point is:
If valve provided more tools to help promote communities to players
(such as my server browser idea), more communities (and more good
ones) would exist, and that's good for the players, too!

Arguing about whether community building is some kind of right or
whether you should 'have to' work for it is stupid. The argument in
this case is that valve should help communities a bit more, because it
would make them easier to start, which could help everyone. This ties
into fake players: If players are more encouraged through steam to
'belong', they're more likely to hang out with/affiliate with a
community rather than just join random pubs all day, and suddenly fake
player spam is less worthwhile, and players have a better experience.

I don't really disagree with anything Richard has said, it's just not
really the point (i think) karl is trying to put forth.

The current problems that exist aren't due to lack of tools, nor are they
due to the idea that the lack of them has forced you to turn to illicit
tactics which has jaded the players. What's jaded the players is server
operators who feel that they are entitled to something.

Why does the point of this have to be arguing about whose fault it is?
Valve shouldn't improve the user experience because server operators
screwed it up, not them That's great for being all on your
 principles, but shitty for players.

As far as I remember you should be using '-ip' rather than '+ip'
Also, did you try -ip 0.0.0.0 ?

Are you using any sort of NAT? Make sure you're bindg to the local IP
 and not the external IP.

Any sort of improper -ip setting will cause all sorts of everything to
 fail to bind to ports.

If the devs think there's a problem with Source SDK they'd have to take it
up with Valve. I doubt they'd respond or do anything for you on this

Right now SourceTV doesn't even work on Windows servers for it.

2009/2/15 Kitteny Berk b...@hairy-arse.com

 Not so.

 As posted by Burton Johnsey;

Given the feedback received from the list, we are holding off migrating
the mailing lists to the forums.
The intent of migrating to the forums was to leverage the benefits and
features of the forums to further strengthen the community, giving us a
central spot to gather feedback. The forum software is continually being
updated by vBulletin and is flexible enough to also allow us to add our own
 features.

To address a couple of specific concerns about the forums:

  - Membership - We can keep the membership in the DS forums private so
that random forum users cannot post.
  - Moderation - We can assign moderators for specific forums. Moderators
would be volunteers from the current mailing list participants.
  - Forum server performance - We have upgraded the system that runs the
forums and we do not experience the lag we were experiencing in the past
  - The forums are accessible to more people than the mailing list.

We want to make things better, not worse. We appreciate any further
 feedback you have to offer.

That number is part of the calculation as to how the steam id converts to an
integer. I'm sure with the amount of people using steam they have a few more

2009/2/3 msleeper mslee...@cyberwurx.com

Well, as I'm sure you know, the second 0 or 1 is the authserver that the
particular client uses. I assume the change of the first digit to 1 is
another set, or another layer, of authentication. L4D is strongly tied
into the friends and Community system, so I bet they didn't want it
bogging down the whole auth system.

Which, if this timeout bug is related to L4D, and I personally think it
is, the bogging down happened anyway and they're trying to fix it.

So here i am perusing my logs when i see

   L 02/02/2009 - 20:25:28: EricS114STEAM_0:1:10 disconnected
(reason You have been banned by this server, check
   http://www.doublezen.net/ for more info)

   wait, what?

No ban matches that steamID. So i dig into the SourceBans module, and
 find
   this:

SELECT bid FROM %s_bans WHERE ((type = 0 AND authid REGEXP
   'STEAM_[0-9]:%s') OR (type = 1 AND ip = '%s')) AND (length = '0' OR
ends UNIX_TIMESTAMP()) AND RemoveType IS NULL

What that means, is if 1234 is banned, so is 123, 12, and 1. Since
Valve has a lot of really short steam IDs, this means that any sizable
database will return matches against them.

To fix this, if you run SourceBans, change line 774 to:

SELECT bid FROM %s_bans WHERE ((type = 0 AND authid REGEXP
   '^STEAM_[0-9]:%s$') OR (type = 1 AND ip = '%s')) AND (length = '0' OR
ends UNIX_TIMESTAMP()) AND RemoveType IS NULL

IE add that nice ^ and $ there, so it only matches complete IDs.
   Recompile sourcebans.sp and install.

I would like to apologize to EricS and invite him to play on the Nemu
servers whenever he damn well pleases!

Are you running any extra plugins (inc. SourceMod/MetaMod plugins)?
If you are, disable them one by one until it starts. If it still doesn't

Then next time it crashes, it will give you a core.xx file that is much

Yes it is fair if you have to ask.
Do you know how much developers get paid? - It wouldn't be worth the money
for them to pay one developer to work on this for an hour just so you can

You have paid for CS:S (hopefully) its provided 'as-is' anything extra that

in cs:s why should they change something now, just so you can bitch that
there is something wrong with the new functionality.

I work at a very large corporation that I bet everyone here has heard of
(and uses products of ours) as a software engineer.. and I have just come
back from my 2 week Christmas vacation.
Why should valve work over Christmas? What makes them different?

Just because McDonalds and KFC are open over the holidays doesn't mean
every other place should be. To have people in during holidays, you have to
pay again for heating, wages, etc.

You bought the game 'as-is' valve are not expected to fix anything. It
would of course be nice if they did, but they are no-way legally bound to do
Anything more to it.

2009/1/6 Blood Letter bw_bloodlet...@hotmail.com

If Valve completely ignores server operators who provide free servers,
without which their games would be useless, they suck.

If Valve lets long standing bugs, exploits, and security issues go
unattended while focusing only on the latest content update + free weekend,
they clearly prioritize sales over customers.

I don't know about Valve's office, but if something goes wrong with a
system at my office, even on Christmas day, we respond to it, and come into
the office if necessary. If there are fires wreaking havoc with the power
grid and people are being evacuated from their homes, we coordinate to make
sure our servers are backed up, the backups are offsite, and the servers are
 safe.

If someone at Valve wants a break, they can take vacation days. Do they
only have 3 guys, and each only does 1 thing? I hope not. Any company
worth it's salt knows you need redundancy in your mind share.

Valve IS ignoring this list, by not replying. They get torn apart because
they never respond to important issues, they're always late, and they never,
EVER, provide clear and complete answers, let alone any semblance of
 documentation.

Even if I were a child, I would still be a paying customer. If you're
saying Valve gets a pass because gaming is not a priority in life, then you
don't understand a single thing about having a job. If your job is to make
games, you do that. If your job is to deliver mail, you do that. Working
in a particular job sector does not give you the right to slack off.

If Valve fixes everything and provides complete and correct documentation,
then they get support and sales. Going from an F to an A doesn't change the
fact that you still had an F.

No one is treating Valve like shit. We are simply demanding we get some
support, some documentation, and some communication. We get none of those
things. Being a customer DOES give you the right to expect a certain level
of quality and service from the business you are patronizing.

If Valve's priorities continue to diverge from what so many of us expect,
that's fine. They'll just lose our money and our support. Let's be clear
here - server admins are supporting Valve, not the other way around. I'm
sorry I can't apply for a job at Valve, I already have a job of my own. I
can't be programming for everyone in the world, can I? Regardless, I
wouldn't want to work in an office where a complete lack of customer support
 gets a passing grade.

Valve's lack of support and communication is indefensible to anyone with
even a remote knowledge of programming and software development.

If you had ANY remote idea of how many hardware/os configurations there are
out there that could cause problems, you would be a little more lenient.
While some of valve's releases have been a little too buggy for anyones
liking, i'm sure that they test things as much as they can before release,
why would they want to let them selves be known for this sort of thing.
If valve took a day to fix a release for L4D for example, you sound exactly

L4D windows binaries didn't work for hours. Is the next game just going
to have broken binaries for both servers? Is it really that hard to test
something before you make it live. This happens all the time and getting
 more frequent.

When talking about server binaries, you've got your OS and your CPU.
Any system configuration issues are understandable. (For example, if
Norton broke the server.) Seems to me the x86 instruction set +
listed-as-supported linux/windows kernel versions provide only a dozen or so
 combinations.
If you didn't test on said hardware+os, don't list it as supported.

But the fact is we know the issues with the server code, and the client
code, are not due to configuration differences, as they are experienced by
 all, and are repeatable.

try typing this into your ssh console (depending on what access you have)
cd [the location of hlds_686]

Then paste the output

Re: [hlds] New crash exploit?(TF2)

2008-12-20 Thread Olly
You think this would work if I went to EMI and asked to pirate their music
because I couldn't afford it. NO. Stop being lame. If you cant afford it
then don't play it, you don't deserve it!
You don't also think valve is feeling the pressure of the economy? If
everyone stopped buying games but still play them then valve won't last for
very long.

But to come on here asking for a fix for something you didn't pay for
are you crazy or has the world gone mad.

2008/12/20 Siddhartha Gandhi siddharthagandhi...@gmail.com

I want to say that anyone suggesting that cracking your server does not
 push
people to buy the legit version of the game is ridiculous.

Let me tell you the story of myself, and over 200 other TF2 players. Back
 in
the months January - June a cracked server called Onan's Disciples was
started. It turned out to be one of the biggest American servers, having a
consistent 32 players for much of the day. When the server was shut down
 and
replaced by a legit server, almost all of us bought the game on Steam. Just
about everyone who was a regular on that server now owns the game legit,
 and
the vast majority of them originated as pirates.

 That server achieved two things:

 a) People bought the game who, if they hadn't gotten the cracked version of
 the game, probably wouldn't have.

 b) It created a community that lasted even when the server went legit.

Sure, that server allowed people to illegally play the game, some of whom
never went out and bought it (more often than not, because they didn't have
the ability to buy it), but if that server did not exist, would the ones
 who
did buy it have bought the game? The answer is no.

I'm not justifying piracy, I don't think anyone is, but before you censure
this man consider that piracy doesn't always lead to lost sales.

  Hello.

I'm emailing you today because of a cracked server for your game, Team
Fortress 2. It isn't anything bad, far from, I just wanted to say that I
would like to thank you for allowing someone who can't really afford the
game just yet to be able to play it. Yes, I know, I can't afford a game
 for
$20 with tax. But with the economy of Canada and the USA failing, along
 with
my family hitting some hard times, most of my paycheck goes to paying
 bills,
and the rest of it goes to paying for groceries.

The server I was playing on, Pwndora's Box, was a cracked one, allowing
people without the actual game, to test your game out and play it. It
 gave
me a chance to just kick back and forget the issues at hand and play with
  some good people.

Though due to the possible crash exploit, that is no longer viable for me
to do anymore, seeing as the server had to go down due to the constant
crashing of some random occurance of someone or something logging on and
taking down the server. It is due to this, and the fact that I have
 become
far to used to playing your games, I shall be saving up all the money I
 can
spare over the next month in order to buy your game.

 I think I'm finished here.

So, with all of that said, I think you should probably stop running a
pirate server. As that very well could be the cause of your problems. I have
screenshotted everything FYI, so if you try to cover it all up, it won't
 work.

Pirates are not eligible for support I don't think.

Happy 15th birthday, ask your parents to buy you a legal copy of TF2, it's
only $9.99 now. They'll be thrilled.

 Mystery solved, thanks to Google!

 Have a nice day!

 Games for Windows Live.

Epic fail

Cross-platform FPS problems aren't really an issue when you're playing
co-op with friends though. Even if a friend of mine is gimped or has
an advantage due to auto-aim or whatever, I'm not really going to
care, I'm just going to have fun playing with them. An option to allow
Xbox players in friends-only games would be cool, but I doubt it'd
happen since it doesn't use Games for Windows Live.

They don't make it a pain.. If you don't know how to setup servers, then

up and working fine without posting a whine thread.

Re: [hlds] Windows 2008

2008-11-24 Thread Olly
There is a big problem with server2008, if the server (srcds) crashes any
script you have to restart it on crash will fail to work, because of the
'This program has ended unexpectedly' (or something like that).
There is a way to turn this off in the settings, but this just shows a
different error message. So to allow a server to finish crashing, you will
need to remote in, and click the close button on the popup. This was getting
to be such a problem, we went back to 2003

What I meant was that they are already trimmed down. From my experience,
 it
is more likely that you have too little on a server OS initially than too
much. Also, like I said, I find it highly unlikely that Server 08 has a
 higher footprint than Server 03.

Re: [hlds] Windows 2008

Yes, we use server checker, but it doesn't know the server has crashed until
you click Ok. Also, AFAIK, -nocrashdialog does the same as disabling the
crash dialog in control panel, this works fine in 2003, but in 2008 its
simply replaced by another box.

2008/11/24 1nsane [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Have a program like serverchecker monitor the server. That way if it
 freezes
or crashes with an error message it will be automatically restarted. You
 can
 also try using -nocrashdialog.

Yea, I was getting this last night too. It made the game un-playable. I kept
getting Retrying Connection to server over and over again.

2008/11/15 Cc2iscooL [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Alright, there's a problem going on since two updates ago. Every time I
reach the subway level, until I get to the lower subway (just past the
escalators), my net_graph looks like the following... and other players are
 experiencing this too.

 http://www.1337gaming.com/l4dpics/

This situation loops over and over...it seems to be a client problem, some
clients get it all the time, some get it occasionally, and some get it not
at all. Very strange. I've reinstalled my server from scratch, verified my
client files, and all sorts of other changes, with no result. Has anyone
else seen this or is it just me?

Re: [hlds] L4D-Demo Private Server?

2008-11-13 Thread Olly
I think the command to set the join password for a game is 'password'
'sv_password' is where the password is stored on the server

2008/11/13 volker [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 on the server:

 EDIT ../left4dead/cfg/server.cfg
 === cut
 hostname NAME
 rcon_password PASSWORD
 mp_logdetail 0
 setmaster add 68.142.72.250:27011
 setmaster add 72.165.61.189:27011
 sv_voiceenable 1
 sv_alltalk 0
 sv_search_key SEARCHKEY
 === cut

 START the server

// check if SEARCHKEY is set:
 in server console: help sv_search_key

 on the client:

 EDIT ..\SteamApps\common\left 4 dead demo\left4dead\cfg\Autoexec.cfg
 === cut
 sv_search_key SEARCHKEY
// for ppl like me, who don`t have a ` on their keyboard
 bind f10 toggleconsole
 === cut

 OR

start the game with ...steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 530 -console
and input sv_search_key SEARCHKEY in console

// check if SEARCHKEY is set:
 in client console: help sv_search_key

 how to play:

clan style: each member can open a lobby for friends on your server (if
it doesn't already exist) and other members will connect through steam
friends list (or via the in-game friends list, haven't tested that yet)

semi-open style: open a lobby for friends but change the settings to
public game and in-game matchmaking will add players to your server.
(sometimes the start-lobby-button switches to search-lobby-button after
changing the settings; game will then start searching for public server.
have no explanation why, maybe a bug?)

special-case: when you leave the semi-open style, and people are still
playing, then one of the remaing players becomes host of the game. if you
want to get control of your server again, you have to kickt the players or
restart the server; haven't found any better solution yet.

 cheers,

 volker

Re: [hlds] L4d vote kicking

2008-11-13 Thread Olly
Valve don't make the rules when it comes to our servers. They only have the
right to protect their IP. So if someone comes in my server who has 3
arms... and I have a no 3 arm'd people rule... then they are out.
If an admin is being an idiot, then the players can connect to another
server. Easy.

He does have a point. You own the server, you own the rights to do whatever
you want and enforce whatever rules you want. Period. If you don't like the
way admins run their servers, start up a listen server and bitch to the
people that join and then complain that the game is laggy. :)

Re: [hlds] Dedicated Servers Hosting Console Players?

Almost positive that they wouldn't. Console versions have some minor game
movement and settings changes to help console users playing with a control
pad.. like slight auto-aim etc

2008/11/7 Brad [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I really haven't found any proof of this or anything (it really is hard to
get a firm grip on whether this is the case or not because the server files
include a whole bunch of client code), but does anyone know for sure if our
dedicated servers are being used to host Xbox 360 players? Obviously,
 there
is the line SupportsXbox360 1 in gameinfo.txt that leads one to this
conclusion. Even if this isn't the case, does anyone have any idea what
that file is talking about? It clearly is a file intended for PCs, but
there are console references in it. I feel like something fishy is going
on, but I hope I am wrong.

Re: [hlds] L4D No Server Browser = No Server Support

2008-11-06 Thread Olly

While we wish Valve success with this game; their decision

leaves us with no choice but to take this action in the hope

that it will highlight how strongly we feel about the removal

of direct join options from any game.

You think that is good company practice to make decisions like this based on
one email? I cant understand why everyone is so eager to slap valve for
making a decision that we haven't even seen the result of?

2008/11/6 Steven Hartland [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Following the announcement last night that there will be no
server browser for the highly anticipated Left 4 Dead, we
have been thinking long and hard about the impact this has
on the hosting of the game.

With no server browser how are people supposed to join a
server they have rented? Will there at least be a direct
 to join IP feature?

Without these there is no incentive for either the purchase
of servers by customers or the provision of free-to-play
publics by gaming communities, as people have no choice over
 what server they join.

This kills the rental, hosting and community market for the
game outright. Do Valve really intend to host all the servers
themselves for the game or has the importance of these features
 and their impact been overlooked?

As it stands right now we (Multiplay) see no benefit in
supporting this game at all and unless this situation changes
we do not intend to host any servers for it.

We hope other GSP's will support us in this action. The MOTD
ad block is of minor significance in comparison to the building
a community around servers. This is the start of a slippery
slope which once started down it will be hard to turn back.
The community goodwill and hard work must not be taken for
 granted and pushed too far.

Valve's success is in no small part due to the widespread
availability of servers for it's games, the majority of which
are funded and run by the community at large. To take away the
community's ability to continue to run servers that they can
build solid regular player bases around, will simply destroy
the communities around the game and also significantly dent
faith and goodwill in Valve as a company.

While we wish Valve success with this game; their decision
leaves us with no choice but to take this action in the hope
that it will highlight how strongly we feel about the removal
of direct join options from any game.

Steve

2008/11/6 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 It's on Valve's website:

The demo concludes on November 18, when Left 4 Dead will be made available
at retail outlets across North America and worldwide via Steam.

Thats a tough one. Since the demo might be free after release for
 people
that want to try it, then demo servers will have to stay available
 which
means this command line will be left all depends. If they change
 it,
   it
will be the same was as dods to ob.
