Happy to have the rare opportunity to help. Seriously, my wife was
about to have me committed over this one. I would have never thought of
it if not for verifying the files one night and noticed the "case"
issue. Tried to correct it and it fixed it. It was like I found the
answer to the equation of life.

Hey to each our small victories.

Well, it was actually a case issue... and I had the url set to hl2dm,
instead of hl2mp, which is where the webserver currently points.

if sv_downloadurl is set, custom files will appear to download no matter
what even if the URL is wrong, the files don't exist, the http server is
down, or whatever else prevents them from being downloaded...

double check the URL you set in sv_downloadurl and also make sure the path
on your http server matches the game server's path.

if game server path to maps folder is C:\srcds\cstrike\maps and path to
sound folder is C:\srcds\cstrike\sound, make sure the http server's path
to
the maps folder is root/cstrike/maps and path to sound folder is
root/cstrike/sound and the URL in sv_downloadurl is
http://www.domaintoroot.com/cstrike

Some new sounds for this one map, etc. The res files are set right, as
are

permissions for the fast maps.

I connect to the server and watch it download the needed files. However,
the
files don't actually download to my comp. When the sound is triggered in
game, I get a missing file error. This is nuts, because I watched them
download.

This may be to obvious but it totally kicked my butt when I first
started using the sv_downloadurl. Verify the files in your .res files
are in the proper case as in Dumb_map_noise.wav instead of

Again, that only assigns a specific amount of RAM to the process. The basis
of the problem is that the exe can't address 4GBs of RAM to select it's
slice from. So, yes, we tried heapsize settings originally and that did not
create a solution.

but to no avail. I know a couple of guys tried to help but everything we
tried forced us to offload our 1.6 clients to smaller dual xeons servers
that are all too common in this list. End result, we found a way to run 1.6
on our work-horse hardware and thought others might be interested in this
tidbit of oddity. So the question becomes, not that we'll every try it,
wonder how may active player slots we could run on 8.0GHz of 4 CPU cores.

Re-readit works normally AFTER firing the GUI version of it but won't
fire if I DL the files and then immediately fire it up with a console.
Weird. We tried the suggested /3GB switch in boot.ini when it was suggested
but to no avail. I know a couple of guys tried to help but everything we

A good idea might be to point these kids to the wiki (which was an excellent
idea btw) so they get lots of their questions answered and get to leave us
old timers alone in here to pester Alfred with the more technical questions.
;)

And since I labeled this OT in my last post it might be worth mentioning an
oddity. I pulled a copy of 1.6 to our dual-core, dual cpu Opteron rig with
4GBs of RAM the other day. Fired up the GUI for it just to see if maybe the
GUI could overcome the message claiming that the server didn't have 15MBs of
RAM in it. Believe it or not the server started. So the next obvious step
was to shut that worthless thing off and tried to fire it normally in the
console. Wouldn't you know it worked! Imagine that. Not sure why since if I
pull a copy and fire it directly to the console I get the memory error
message. Go figure. But at least it's a possible work around for guys
running big servers.

Just to add, that if the files are in fact downloading to the client, then
the original poster has a client problem, not a server problem.
You would think that would be some handy information to know, if you were
trying to troubleshoot this type of problem.

Just to add, that if the files are in fact downloading to the client, then
the original poster has a client problem, not a server problem.
You would think that would be some handy information to know, if you were
trying to troubleshoot this type of problem.

Not particuarly, no.
They obviously have not put much thought into their domain name, what makes
you think they are going to be able to be prepared to put any useful sort of
thought into anything else?
In any case, I was merely pointing out, we are going over the same area
that was covered very recently.

Gawd, do you not have tolerance for kids with domains like whutdufuk.com
that may not have been here a week ago? If not maybe you should think about
not reading these emails at all. At least don't respond with rude comments
to n00bies. Remember, some time ago you used to be JUST like he is now.

if sv_downloadurl is set, custom files will appear to download no matter
what even if the URL is wrong, the files don't exist, the http server is
down, or whatever else prevents them from being downloaded...

double check the URL you set in sv_downloadurl and also make sure the path
on your http server matches the game server's path.

if game server path to maps folder is C:\srcds\cstrike\maps and path to
sound folder is C:\srcds\cstrike\sound, make sure the http server's path to
the maps folder is root/cstrike/maps and path to sound folder is
root/cstrike/sound and the URL in sv_downloadurl is
http://www.domaintoroot.com/cstrike

Re: [hlds] Custom Content not working right.

2005-11-13 Thread James McKenna

I restarted the game... then I restarted steam. It made me download the
mp3's again, and then when I triggered the event, I got this error in
console:

Failed to load sound "pom/allyourbase.mp3", file probably missing from
disk/repository

I am stumped.

We've added some custom content and wanted to share it with the world.
