Re: [hlds] L4D search_key server good for only 1 use?

2009-07-15 Thread Zoid Kirsch
Hi Robert.

We updated the master servers today to specifically correct this issue. If you
haven't restarted your server today, please do so and it should correctly work
with sv_search_key and steam groups.

There is a minor issue on Linux servers when using sv_search_key that they
won't show up for joining again until they heartbeat at least once after the
last player left which make take a few minutes. I'll be addressing this in a
future update.

Re: [hlds] L4D search_key server good for only 1 use?

2009-07-15 Thread Robert Whelan
Hello Zoid,

Thx for the reply, seems to be working so far. All 6 of our servers appear in
the steam group and have survived 3 search key queries. There is one problem
though, this is new as of today. I have 1 server which runs as +mp_gamemode
survival +map l4d_sv_lighthouse. Its listed in the steam group with the other 5
though the join game option isn't available in the steam group area so
connecting to it isn't possible in that window. I can however join directly or
thru the serverbrowser etc. If I switch the problem server over to coop/versus
all is fine again.

In the steam group server window it shows the server and ping though doesn't
show player counts 0/4 or what modes running ie: normal, versus or survival.
Hope that's not to confusing, lemme know if I can help further.

Thx

I never have trouble with a lobby and ms_force_dedicated_server. It acts
just like a normal server search.

It's my understanding that ms_force...just forces the lobby to connect to
the server specified no matter what, as if it had found it in a search.

Matchmaking / Lobbies Steamworks' multiplayer back-end is powered by robust
matchmaking and lobby technology. The same technology that drives the quick

Hardly robust, Hardly quick. L4D is an awesome game, but the lobby just
doesnt work right. Last night it took 8 lobby creation attempts by me and my
friends just to get a game on an offical dedi server, only for it to crash 3
 chapters in.

Aside from the gameplay itself, its f***ing baffling to see how its won any
awards. Its getting sick now, and ech time im in a lobby, players just slag
 it off no end.

I still can not connect to a VS game with the search_key. What is so

Any one find a fix or workaround? Or am I beating a dead horse?

Re: [hlds] L4D Search_key

2009-03-25 Thread CmptrWz
Don't have a link handy, but I believe the issue was found to be a 64 char
limit on what the master server sees in your tags string. Versus works fine,
so long as you don't exceed that 64 chars before the word versus finishes
in the tag string.

A long search key, sourcemod, steam group ID, and other things that push the
coop, versus part of the tag string past the 64 char mark will result in
issues, apparently.

Don't have a link handy, but I believe the issue was found to be a 64 char
limit on what the master server sees in your tags string. Versus works
 fine,
so long as you don't exceed that 64 chars before the word versus
 finishes

A long search key, sourcemod, steam group ID, and other things that push
 the
coop, versus part of the tag string past the 64 char mark will result in
 issues, apparently.

Update to the latest snapshot from http://www.sourcemod.net/snapshots.php
It removes the sourcemod tag for this reason.

Also, make sure to remove any mention of sv_alltalk from your config,
unless you have it set to on. Alltalk has an odd behavior in L4D it
seems, so it's probably best just to leave it alone.

Agreed - although Steamworks doesnt agree

Matchmaking / Lobbies Steamworks' multiplayer back-end is powered by robust
matchmaking and lobby technology. The same technology that drives the quick
and accurate match-ups in Left 4 Dead can be used in your game.

Aside from the gameplay itself, its f***ing baffling to see how its won any
awards. Its getting sick now, and ech time im in a lobby, players just slag

It takes a while for the server to register as empty again. Heartbeats
are sent every 5 minutes and are not guaranteed to reach the master servers.

That happened on campaign mode. I entered the server through community,
played a little. Left. Then made a lobby for campaign and it wouldnt find my
server. Eventually the lobby emptied since it took too long. No one has any

Our group's servers use a search_key of just 3 characters and it works
perfectly. The length could definitely be an issue.

Don't have a link handy, but I believe the issue was found to be a 64
 char
limit on what the master server sees in your tags string. Versus works
  fine,
so long as you don't exceed that 64 chars before the word versus
  finishes
  in the tag string.

A long search key, sourcemod, steam group ID, and other things that push
  the
coop, versus part of the tag string past the 64 char mark will result in
  issues, apparently.
