Re: [hlds] New bug/hack to get multiple items in a very short time?

2009-05-26 Thread msleeper
The other person I was working on the map with made some really great
visual changes, but unfortunately doesn't know squat about how to
optimize a map so it it kinda ran like ass. He also chopped up the
geometry in really stupid ways so trying to modify it is a pain. We have
been going back now that both of us are no longer busy with other
things, and I'm going to be fixing the known problems and adding some
requested options to the plugin once I get L4D Survival stats working.

Yeah well.. LFD sucks. Totally not worth the money that my clan members
spent to buy the game for me. I hope LFD HL2 was worth their money.

Hunted mod still alive? How are those maps coming along for it? I checked it
out a while ago... the maps were bare and the plugin had a few issues.
Nevertheless... it was fun :).

Yes, "admin", it's very fun to have people flood it to lag or crash your

gotten a few people.

Ah yes, there's the item_found command, but this player actually has found
all hats within a single 30 minute game. This was not just the message, he
is currently showing them to other players...

Just be aware stuff like Mani Admin is terrible memory wise.

Without the automated daily restarts we do our servers would easily max out
the host's memory within a few days.

Without mani however the memory is much more suitable and does not appear to
leak (that we have noticed).

Actually having seen some source source (I know, I know) code, I believe the
way their tree is It's really not a big deal having linux+win32 support. I
believe it's probably a stupid little thing that makes the in game
performance. Obviously the memory usage is a leak in the Linux specific
code. A good leakdetector and a couple of week should fix this problem,
unless it's in some binary code they don't have access to (or in some 3rd
party code they are allowed to fix ala Havok)

You should note that Valve is most definitely NOT the only publisher that
listens to complaints. I actually talk to the DICE guys all the time about
Battlefield2 hacking and server specific issues (including ones that only
apply to ranked servers.) Also the people who do AA also are very
communicative with the community.

In fact lately Valve has not seemed to be listening to us. I am sure it
relates to getting the new HL2 stuff out the door since again, this is their
major revenue stream. It was very apparent that most of '05 was dedicated
to getting the CS maps ported, getting DoD:S out the door, getting the HDR
updates read, and trying to get HL2: Aftermath out the door. We are still
missing a couple of CS maps though, I'd say the last two important maps are
out. (missing maps: as_oilrig, cs_747, cs_backalley, cs_estate, de_airstrip,
de_storm, de_torn, de_survivor, and de_vertigo ... Of these only as_oilrig
and cs_estate were running on any cs1.6 server when I checked this)

Blah blah blah, are you still reading this? :) Have a good day, I gotta

This is a very significant complaint. Granted, the two are so
different as to need separate gen-trees, but in my estimation Valve is
overlooking a significant resource in the number of people willing to help
them overcome this problem.

>Honestly, the other issues are not server issues and really belong on a

It's noteworthy that Valve is the only publisher/writer around that
will listen to these complaints seriously. It's also noteworthy that
there's still a bug list a mile long. Valve's revenue stream and internal
priority list will take precedence, of course, but perhaps a bugtracker wiki
or the like would be useful so we can get updates?
Something other than the forums, I'm thinking of a place where both server
admins and developers can share ideas without suffering the slings and
arrows of "Me too" and "Fix this now" and "You suxors!"
so prevalent in a public forum, and with membership comes the ability to
beta-test potential rollouts. Valve cannot possibly simulate all of our
situations, why not make use of a voluntary community to better the testing
process? Admins who have CS:S as a revenue stream can test while not
affecting production, and folks at home with a P133 under Slakware or Win98
can add to it.

Speaking of bugs, the free DoD:S weekend brought them out of the
woodwork. I don't think I'm telling the cheaters anything new when I state
that the ability to create a new Steam ID on the fly helped a lot of folks
test VAC2 without fear of reprisal. Just tonight on DOD:S I saw a
reload-bypass script, I believe a wallhack (I'd like a second opinion before
claiming that one), and a few other goodies. If Vac isn't updated based
upon informaton gleaned soon it's going to be CS6 all over again.

Perhaps something along the lines of bugzilla? http://www.bugzilla.org/

>My biggest Valve complaint at the moment: Why is there a moderately

This is a very significant complaint. Granted, the two are
so different as to need separate gen-trees, but in my estimation Valve
is overlooking a significant resource in the number of people willing
to help them overcome this problem.

>Honestly, the other issues are not server issues and really belong on a

It's noteworthy that Valve is the only publisher/writer around
that will listen to these complaints seriously. It's also noteworthy
that there's still a bug list a mile long. Valve's revenue stream
and internal priority list will take precedence, of course, but perhaps
a bugtracker wiki or the like would be useful so we can get updates?
Something other than the forums, I'm thinking of a place where both
server admins and developers can share ideas without suffering the
slings and arrows of "Me too" and "Fix this now" and "You suxors!"
so prevalent in a public forum, and with membership comes the
ability to beta-test potential rollouts. Valve cannot possibly
simulate all of our situations, why not make use of a voluntary
community to better the testing process? Admins who have CS:S as
a revenue stream can test while not affecting production, and folks
at home with a P133 under Slakware or Win98 can add to it.

Speaking of bugs, the free DoD:S weekend brought them out of
the woodwork. I don't think I'm telling the cheaters anything new
when I state that the ability to create a new Steam ID on the fly
helped a lot of folks test VAC2 without fear of reprisal. Just
tonight on DOD:S I saw a reload-bypass script, I believe a
wallhack (I'd like a second opinion before claiming that one),
and a few other goodies. If Vac isn't updated based upon
informaton gleaned soon it's going to be CS6 all over again.

2006-02-20 Thread Stuart Stegall
Here's the problem. I'm just not going to waste the effor to attempt to
read through that. Take your time. Think about what you want to say. Then
write your thoughts.

I seriously think there needs to be a like 3rd list for hlds-gsp - hlds for
game service providers. This would be Grand. Many of us actually cover
BOTH platforms.

My biggest Valve complaint at the moment: Why is there a moderately
significant difference in the performance of SRCDS on Windows vs Linux.
HLDS doesn't has almost no difference leading me to use Gentoo Linux for
HLDS hosting 99% of the time (the Colo I use in Atlanta requires Windows for
they will not touch your box ... It is the dumbest thing in the universe,
but c'est la vie.) But for SRCDS I basically have 0 choice as there's such
a gulf in memory usage (not to mention Actual in-game performance)

They do need to do a bit more testing with the current addons used by 99% of
the servers, but almost the only addon I have problems with is mani admin
mod, but it's also the only full admin mod that exists at this point.

Honestly, the other issues are not server issues and really belong on a
different list.

If you come on here and say "I'm experiencing lag does is anyone able to
help me" then you will get mature and useful responses.

If you do what you have done and say VALVE FIX MY G4ME then we'll rip the
piss out of you, because you didn't come here for help you came here to

Re: [hlds] New bug/hack

2006-02-19 Thread sprout

I see that many of you don't like my english or email writing after about 15
hours of being up. I am so happy to tell you my problem just like many
others do and leave it vague.

I am experiencing lag valve fix it.

Ok done. Seen to many of these emails just like this one. Or how about My
cpu usage is high. Yeah ok that helps... Does it say how much cpu usage per
each process of the server does it run. I see nothing in that quote that
says that. See this is all very helpful when valve goes to debug problems.

I don't pretend to know what half this list says but knowing I got about 15
responces off something directly to valve about a bug just shows it has lots
of useless messages.

I do remember a subject which I completly ignored this time saying this
"VALVE are you lissening" it got something like 50 posts back. I really
don't see a use for that. And just shows how much valve actually lissens If
they spent their day reading emails from this list they might as well hire
on another person just to do that. If people would just read before opening
their mouth or do as Kevin said If you don't have anything nice don't say
anything at all this list would be much more productive be much easier for
valve to deal with. Valve would probably respond a whole lot more too.

See All this flaming did nothing I still speak my mind as it comes to me. I
know you can say im a moron im a crybaby I could care less. I know many of
you out there have small dicks and can't help to make yourself feel bigger
then others by just insulting people. This is the issue with many people if
they would just go into things clear headed and not roast on people just
cause you have nothing better to do then insult some other person who has
helped other people on this list. Finally roast me WOOPTY DOOO While your
at it convince valve to boot me off the list im sure valve agrees with half
my email so far already though. And btw I would roast on 50% of you back
probably but I have better things to do then to read pages of emails when
the main topic is lets roast on this kid cause 10 other people have.
Creative I must say Hope you feel better cause you never made me feel bad.
Nor will you ever So roast away kiddys :).

Okay, so I ran this through BabelFish and I came up with this:

"Hello. Recently, I received an xFire message from one of the
administrators on my server, telling me that the game was performing
strangely. At first, I didn't believe him, because I have never exercised
much discretion in authorizing admins on my machines, however, when I
connected to the server, I noticed significant lag. Looking further (at
least as far as my short attention span allows), I determined that the
server CPU utilization was quite low. While I am not entirely sure of the
relationship between low CPU utilization and network latency and not knowing
what else to do, I restarted the machine. ("When in doubt, pull the plug
out") Much to my surprise, the problem resurfaced, in spite of the fact
that I restarted without actually changing any of the operating conditions
of the host. So, with my repetoire of troubleshooting strategies exhausted,
I decided it must be a bug with the Valve software. I concluded this
because (a) I am running some 3rd party mods and (b) even though there are
thousands of servers, worldwide, NOT experiencing this problem, what else
could it possibly be? A further diagnostic clue: when some players were
banned and kicked for reasons unknown to me. I'm sure that's relevant.
Please stop everything you are doing and fix this because my server is
really running poorly. dOOd!"

Perhaps they don't. You, however, write a sentence like a
crank-addled Pomeranian. There's two sides involved in any means
of communication, and near as I can tell your side is the one that
is in need of translation.

English may not be your first language, but we can work
with that. Try to be, at least, somewhat precise and topical?

I can't help you if I don't know what you're asking.
Likewise for others on this list.

If you want the incoherent forums, they're labeled
HLDS Windows and are the second list down on the left -- you
can't miss them.
