bothering to try and hide the fact they are cheating, they are

They rejoin so many times, change their IP addresses, to avoid the bans in

RE: [hlds] VAC... and Steam keygens

2004-10-02 Thread Bruce \"Bahamut\" Andrews
Heh, problem being that with vac disablers and most of the servers being
hit having people under NDA's they'd have trouble getting the evidence
and IP addresses for individual hackers.

Perhaps some of the larger GSP's getting hit could forward on a
collection of data to a VALVe representative (might be interesting to
see what Gabe said if he suddenly had links to the IP addresses, demos
and steamid's of several hundred hacker reports sitting in his inbox :p)

They obviously hadn't thought it would come to this - and I don't blame
them.

They should probably go back to the old auth style, which (from what I
understand) was something to do with sending an encrypted copy of your
key
to the server then it forwarded it on to the valve master server which
in
turn returned a wonid if it was valid? I dunno, something weird, but it
sort-of worked.

Meh, I'd have to sit down and think about a really good solution, but
there
wouldn't be much point as chances are, someone over at VALVe is trying
to
figure one out right now :/

Upon creation of a steam account your given a steamid, it has nothing to
do
with a cd key. I found this out back when steam first launched outside
of
beta when I made an account for a server. In the steam log file I found
a
steamid which had been given to me without me having to input any cd
key. So
basically with each valid email they get a new account or it used to be
valid anyway. Do they still require authentication? And then using the
blob
file from their valid account they login and play games with any id for
free. Now to fix this I would think valve should require a cdkey check
on
launch of the game to ensure that the account that is starting the game
has
previously inputed a valid cd key for that game or the original game aka
Half-Life. Because obviously some form of cd key check is either not in
place or not working.

No word from Alfred yet, though I can only assume he's monitoring the
thread and not replying simply because people have a habbit of pouncing
on him with stupid questions about when HL2 is going to be released (re:
Linux mailing list).

I haven't experimented with mods yet, but I wouldn't clear Natural
Selection from the firing line yet =)

It's a pretty big hole; I'm thinking VALVe will need to get their STEAM
guys to do some major work to fix this up, since they are, essentially,
providing Half-Life to anyone who wishes to play it for free - which
isn't good for business =)

RE: [hlds] VAC... and Steam keygens

2004-09-28 Thread Bruce \"Bahamut\" Andrews
That sounds awesome, is there actually a mod out like that - that we're
able to gain access to?

Had fun with d00zer earlier, since he's impossible to beat with
steamid's, I just slapped him 10 times with 10 damage (for fun) to kill
him whenever he was about to get someone =)

Worked awesomely, he left after a few tries at coming back with
different ID's/IPs =)

Its more fun to make a mod that reverses their tracelines, so no matter
what
they hit, it hits them.

You see players killing themselves with knives, shotguns, any hitscan
type
weapon.

Cheater goes wtf, and leaves eventually; they can't do anything, but
kill
themselves. Aimbot makes it so they die even faster.
