Re: [hlds_linux] Ban list getting wiped
Original message from aXeR: How do you mean? WriteID in server.cfg and banned_usr.cfg in autoexec? I'm not sure why you would want writeid at all. If you are using a mod, it should execute this after adding a ban to memory. If you put exec banned_user.cfg in cstrike/cfg/autoexec.cfg, it will load the banlist when the server starts and those bans will stay in memory until the server quits, hence no need to put it in server.cfg (which is executed after each mapchange). If you ever execute writeid when there are no bans in memory, it will overwrite the banned_user.cfg file with an empty one, which sounds like what you are experiencing. - Original Message - From: Chris Jones [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Saturday, March 26, 2005 11:25 AM Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] Ban list getting wiped Just put it once in autoexec.cfg, that is all you need.. [hlds_linux] Master and Update Server IPs/Hostnames
Hello All! I'm attempting to lock my server down, I installed the firewall software apf. I opened the two official dedicated server ports (27015 and 27020) on the inbound and outbound interfaces. The server is able to start (with the -nomaster parameter) and clients can connect to an extent (until the -nomaster causes their Steam IDs to be rejected). The steam update tool will not run with the firewall enabled either. Running a netstat with the firewall enabled shows the update tool as trying to go outbound on a randomly number port. I have been unable to determine the behavior of the master server connections yet. Is there an IP range or hostname which I can just place in the allow_hosts.rules file in order to run the firewall and allow the game server to function normally? Re: [hlds_linux] SERVER FPS questions
oops, sorry i mis-read your question. you wont be able to stay at 100fps all the time... what you should do it set -tickrate above 100 (say 500 or 1000) and it will usually stay above 100. - Original Message - From: Sebastian [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Saturday, March 26, 2005 2:36 PM Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] SERVER FPS questions i think you need to use +sys_tickrate - Original Message - From: kt [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com Sent: Saturday, March 26, 2005 2:15 PM Subject: [hlds_linux] SERVER FPS questions This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] I'm having a problem: Running linux, running 2.6.x kernel, set -tickrate to 100 with ./srcds_run and even set +fps_max to 300 rcon stats when the server is empty, 99-100fps. As the server gets more populated (going from 0/12 to 5/12, to 10/12, to 12/12) the fps goes down and down.. down to 10fps. CPU usage goes up to 96% when it gets down to 10fps Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can keep it at 100fps? On 2.4.x kernels, if i set -tickrate 100 and +fps_max to 300, the fps doesn't go past 50. Secondly, Alfred, Is there any we can lock the FPS the server run at? You see, on 2.6.x kernels, if you put fps_max [number] the server will run at that number so if you put fps_max 100 it'll run at 100 and you can change it on the fly. on 2.4.x kernels, setting -tickrate to 100, or any number, does not increase the fps. On 2.4.x kernels, setting -tickrate to any number AND using fps_max to any number higher than 33, doesn't budge the server fps - How can we raise the server fps on 2.4.x kernels? I tried -tickrate 100 and fps_max 100, it says 100,but as soon as someone joins it becomes 50, and even lower. - I've found that I don't need to set -tickrate to raise the server fps on 2.6.x kernels, just fps_max - ? Either way, alfred, how can we set it up so we can lock the fps? I tried running the startup file with +fps_max 100 or whatever, but they can always change it later. RE: [hlds_linux] Dual Opteron server operators
This post has been cross-listed on hlds and hlds_linux. Im going to build and colocate a dual(core) Opteron machine running Gentoo Linux with a vanilla 2.6 kernel but I'd like to know a few things: 1) What are the hardware specs on the machine(s) you run, such as CPU speed and amount of RAM? Dual opty 248's 4GB ram 2) How many servers do you run and what's the CPU and memory load when your servers are +75% full? eight 20 player public source servers (tickrate 33) one 20 player public 1.6 server one private 12 player source match server (tickrate 66) one private 12 player 1.6 match server one private HLTV proxy for 1.6 match server with around 110-120 players on the server I'm running about 65-75% cpu util and around 2.2GB mem used (based on active stat in /proc/meminfo) This is on FC2 3) Linux Admins: Are there any kernel-specific options you enable to optimize the kernel to increase response time (such as config_hz or a specific scheduler)? I use a stock FC2 kernel 4) Linux Admins: Do you run your Linux system in a 32-bit or 64-bit environment (with 32-bit emulation/chroot)? 64bit with 32-bit emulation ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
[hlds_linux] LAN server questions
Hi everyone, I make servers for LAN parties. Until now we tried many configurations (AMD, Intel, AMD64, kernel 2.4.x, kernel 2.6.x, FreeBSD 4, FreeBSD 5, Win32). I'd like to know how can I make my server do the best. It seems for us that there are many events which makes choke _on_ _the_ _client_ (for example when there are 7-10 smoke grenades at a place) and the server is running well with hundreds of fps (as stat sais). What do you think about kernel preemption, realtime priorities, etc. How can I minimize the choke (my favourite test is when 10 players go to one place all of them drops a smoke and then they fires everywhere - I didn't found anything for this situation I always get a lot of choke :). I welcome any ideas.
