[hlds_linux] Is it possible to log RCON Commands

2005-11-15 Thread Alex Hillebrandt
I'm sorry for my mistake to Reply to a current thread an simply change the
Subject, so here again.

--
Today I was seaching in the Log-Files for a RCON-Password change,
Because one of the admin changed it silently.
But I saw that there are no RCON Commands in th Log File ?!
no status or something else...

How to activate logging of this commands?

Another Problem is, that my Server get a Memory Error an restarts
when a specific custom map is loading. The Map is not important, but
there is no debug.log. I'm startin my server with -debug.
What is wrong?

Thanks

  Alex

RE: [hlds_linux] motd.txt not working

2005-11-15 Thread kama

My 2 cents.

Usually motd.txt is sent through the UDP-gamechannel. If its to large it
will probably flood the modemuser and make him disconnect. So its probably
just a legacy today, since most of the gamers now have faster connections
than for 5 years ago. And since it hae been working fine before, why
change it?

Probably the cause could be either:

  a) His ISP doesn't offer personal web space

  or

  b) it would hit its bandwidth limit and be taken offline

I've got a few webspace customers who got sick and tired of their
 websites
going down due to stupid ISP rules, so they are hosted on my servers
instead. No fancy domain name or anything, just a small personal site.

 locally.

Most ISP's offer personal web space as part of the package. Why not
 host
   your motd.txt there?

That would surprise me. To send HTML through UDP seems a bit ridiculous

AFAIK hlsd don't open up a TCP channel. Ofcourse it could have changed as
time goes by.

The thing I wanted to point out was the history of the small motd.txt.

???

Then don't create big motd pages if only 9k modem user connect to
your server... but why limit it?!
And a normal motd isn't that big, a few kb's, that wouldn't flood a
modem user in any way!!!

The map files should also be just ~1.4k in size, else it would be
too large for the modem users!?

That's not a real argument you stated...

Why create another TCP connection just for the motd if you already

Ah, that makes much more sense. The restriction is one of hardware,
specifically the Ethernet max packet size. Making the text longer would
force IP fragmentation.

OTOH, consider the bulk of the player sprays that get exchanged between
client and server. They're huge in comparison. But you can refuse them at
the client, and you can't refuse the motd.

I think its sent through another channel than the other trafic and only
utilize a small procentage of the bandwidth limit. If I recall correctly,
when I was trying to program plugins to hlds+mm, there are different
channels for different stuff.

Sprays are not game critical and if the spray will download in 1 sek or 1
min doesn't matter for the player, the normal player doesn't care how fast
the sprays are downloaded.

All this is probably specified somewhere in the SDK or on some developer
forum/wiki.

2005-11-15 Thread Bryan

In many ways that will significantly reduce hacks. Up to know they have
relied on the expected return answer by the anti-cheat software to let
them know if or if not their hacks are detected. This is being used on
the BF2 community to great sucess. Many folks are being globally banned
for actions they did 2 weeks ago

I have confronted a hacker on our server in condition of unban that he
removes his hacks and provides
me with hack sites. He, being a leet hacker, told me something shocking.
He said, those hacks that
is not detected by vac2 are the hacks the are not for vac2 to begin
with.
He said, the most popular
and safe hack on vac2 servers is CD-Proof (cheating-death) proof hacks.
Here is the link for the
most popular CS hack site with the most popular vac2 proof hacks
which is
actually to bypass cheating-Death.

Hey rawcsserver, nublett stop posting hack sites, while most here know
better then to hack your not makeing the problem any better by posting them.
Also if you knew anything you could go to the steam forums PM a MOD and the
MODS will get the sites to the VAC team where the can deal with it. Please
think befor you go posting stuff aroudnt he net, Also the linux list was not
made for this type of stuff so please once again think before you post and
go though the proper channels to get things to the VAC team.

I agree, things like this should be reported directly to Valve. When posted

Meh. It's been bandied about for years on this list. The kind of
cheat-seekers who'd actually bother to lurk here just for cheat stuff
are usually going to be well aware of any such links long before the
information would actually be posted here. While nobody minds direct
emails to Valve about it, and it's not strictly necessary to post it
here, most agree that it doesn't hurt.

It wasnt ment to be helpful in any way, but hey felt like being mean and yes
it is accurate. Thx but good try.

Wow, that was totally unnecessary, unhelpful, ineloquent, and also not
too accurate.

Re[2]: [hlds_linux] Is it possible to log RCON Commands

2005-11-15 Thread x-ares-x
There are really no Rcon commands logged in my Files...
This is what I get in the Linux console:

# Console: hilfe!?
# rcon from 84.56.196.154:2768: command say hilfe!?

An this is, what is written in the Log File:
# L 11/16/2005 - 02:28:10: Console0ConsoleConsole say hilfe!?

I additionally tried to add bots, in the log Files the Bots are added,
but the bot_add command is not logged...

# server_cvar: sv_alltalk 1
This is in the log File, but no IP when I set this with HLSW?

The change of sv_password will be logged, but without IP, too.

rcon_password changes are not listet...

Hm... I don't really understand this...

Today I was seaching in the Log-Files for a RCON-Password change,
Because one of the admin changed it silently.
But I saw that there are no RCON Commands in th Log File ?!
 no status or something else...

It does:

L1029051.log:L 10/29/2005 - 21:57:03: Rcon: rcon 101279894 ***
sv_alltalk 0 from 216.134.163.43:43522

Normal logging enabled.
