[hlds_linux] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-24 Thread Alfred Reynolds
We have released an update to the Half-Life 1 engine, run the
hldsupdatetool to get the update.

This update:
- enables the sv_visiblemaxplayers cvar again
- fixes the setmaster command so it can be used again
- lowers cpu usage

Issues that are still being worked on
- FreeBSD startup issues (that pipes assert)
- Demo record in hltv

and the constant optimisations to further help CPU usage (yes, I am
looking at you Linux!).

Actually it was a miscompilation when I upgraded FreeBSD. Using the
correct config when compiling the kernel made it bump up again.

Server runs for a while, then stops responding (to query, stdin,
everything) and after another while it spits this:
pipes.cpp (600) : Assertion Failed: Stalled cross-thread pipe
pipes.cpp (600) : Fatal assert failed:

Yeah, though a decent performance drop, it's probably still playable.
But having your servers lock at one-digit FPS means they're not usable
any more.

[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to update local steamclient.
Continuing with current version anyway.

Still after running:
./steam -command update -game cstrike -dir .

Any solution on this?

Kind regards,
Markus

We have released an update for the Half-Life 1 engine, run the
 hldsupdatetool to get the update.

This update fixes crashes on startup if you had a banned.cfg and

Re: [hlds_linux] Can Server Queries be Logged?

2008-10-24 Thread Kveri
If you're not pro in php (you don't know anything about sockets) best
option for you is use some already coded php class, link psycho query
(psychostats).
Basically it's just sending one packet (command) to server and receiving
bunch of packets, in which server info is encoded.

I'm working on setting up a minimal web page with just basic information
from my server on it, such as a small picture of the map, player names,
kills and deaths, etc., like the old PsychoQuery used to have.

I'm using the query code from Psychostats 3.1, and I think I've got it
connecting to the server, as I am not getting any errors, but I haven't
got the web display/theme set up yet, so I have no way of knowing if it
 is working.

I've checked my logs and there is nothing in my logs, is there any
setting on which queries to the server will be logged, or even displayed
in the console, just for debugging purposes? I tried mp_logdetail 3 and
 that didn't show anything.

 Thanks in advance, Drek

2008-10-24 Thread AnAkIn .
Other problems:

Natural Selection (hl1 mod):
There is a crash problem, and that what a developer said:
"From puzl - The crash is gEngFuncs.GetPlayerInfo(). Usually Valve is good
about keeping those functions in the same order."
"The recent NS crash looks like it should be fixed in the engine, not in NS.
Here's hoping that happens, and soon."

Day of defeat:

The game seem to be crashing all the time when you join any servers.

Do you send 00 00 00 00 as challenge ID or do you cut the challenge ID

By the way, the updated HL1 servers seem to use the Source query
response (instead of GoldSource as was before).

I also have noted 2 possible bugs (could be my problem) related to UDP
queries:
- The player id (index) is always zero when using A2S_PLAYER.
- A2S_SERVERQUERY_GETCHALLENGE does not seem to work, but using the
A2S_RULES or A2S_PLAYER query with zero challenge works.

I have also noted that the server fps given from stats are much lower. It
rarely goes over 80. This is on an empty server. Same server another
instance running v47 runs steadily on ~250.

Now running FreeBSD 6.4 w fc4_10.

Just another insight. I've tested this on another host:

uname -a
Linux kernel 2.6.22.5 #2 Fri Aug 24 11:44:59 CEST 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

ldd --version
ldd (GNU libc) 2.3.6

and I get like 80+ FPS with AMX Mod X @ Celeron 1100 Mhz, so this seems
to be some compatibility issue. And this means it will probably be quite
hard to pin down. Another problem, I don't have the root access to the
node in question, so further testing can be a bit complicated.

They`ve released a client update to Counter-Strike. Try making that
update. It fixes this crash.

[hlds_linux] Critically low server FPS after protocol 48 update

2008-10-24 Thread rain
Hi there,

The latest update made all my CS 1.6 servers unusable. I'm experiencing
major FPS drops, thus latency is heavily impacted (>200 average).

I've tried a pure install (today, so after the latest fix) to no avail.

Here are some stats on an empty server, distil clean installation:

./hlds_run -game cstrike -port 2
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 0 84.11 0

Then loading the map (de_dust2):
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 04.00 0
stats
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 04.90 0
stats
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 06.53 0
stats
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 09.89 0
stats
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 1 09.79 0
stats
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 1 04.00 0
stats
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 1 09.79 0
stats
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 1 09.79 0
stats
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 1 04.90 0

So it's stable 4-10 FPS on an idling server. All settings as default
(like fps_max - 72.0 etc.).

Loading the map gives me quite popular errors:
[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to update local steamclient.
Continuing with current version anyway.
Adding master server 68.142.72.250:27010
Adding master server 69.28.151.162:27010
registry.cpp (216) : Assertion Failed: !"Implement me"

Memory usage is normal, CPU ~0%. The same applies to Half-Life servers
(-game valve). -noaff option doesn't change anything.

In the meantime, idle Counter-Strike: Source servers behave OK:
CPU InOut Uptime Users FPSPlayers
 0.00 0.00 0.00 0 0 169.89 0

Any clues what could be causing this weird behaviour?

Some more details:
ps aux | grep hlds_i686
rain 11203 0.1 6.2 66736 56356 pts/10 Sl+ 10:54 0:00
./hlds_i686 -game cstrike -port 2 +map de_dust2

2008-10-24 Thread AnAkIn .
Lot of people seem to have a problem with random timeouts while playing, and
crashes at map changes, exactly like in the beta.
Also, there seem to be a problem with the name still locking to Steam
Community or changing back to it after x time.

Re: [hlds_linux] Half-Life 1 Engine Update Released

2008-10-24 Thread Joachim Sehlstedt
Alfred posted info about it to the list:

We have released an update for the Half-Life 1 engine, run the
hldsupdatetool to get the update.

This update fixes crashes on startup if you had a banned.cfg and the
sv_password state not being displayed properly in the serverbrowser.

There is a known bug with servers not listing if you use the setmaster
command, so remove any setmaster calls until we can release a fix for
the issue.

- Alfred

We have released an update to the Half-Life 1 engine, run the
hldsupdatetool to get the update.

This update fixes the "Assert( IsIdxValid(i) )" and then crash error
when running a server and fixes a crash on startup under linux if you
had virtual interfaces.

Known bugs that are still being worked on are the setmaster call
stopping server listing and sv_visiblemaxplayers no longer being used.

Re: [hlds_linux] Increased CPU system usage since last HL1 update

2008-10-24 Thread Stefanos Demetriou
Hi
I have 2 machines running glibc 2.3.4, but the server still fails to start
on one of them. Even when I try to run the server without any addons, and
even when I don't even load mod cstrike, the server gives out segmentation
fault after the first call to the "map" command.

Its working here on 6.2 although we are seeing:-
[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to update local steamclient.
Continuing with current version anyway.

That said it did require the latest update, so might want to check you have
that.

I know that 100 is max. But some idi...err "good players" provided the
information that 101 is uber-over-skill-super-duper-mega-great.and
well, many many players set their config to 101 :(

And please agree that it's really stupid that the server sets the
players value to the MINIMUM ,instead to the MAXIMUM when they set their
own value MORE than the allowed max...
Normally I would expect the engine setting it to the maximum allowed value.

I'll have tod o that, but I also that hope Valve will "fix" that problem.

Alfred: See it as a feature request to avoid bad gaming experience for
players that are not that common with editing their configs.
