Re: [hlds_linux] Broken Master server (68.142.88.34) or IP/network- please remove it

2009-06-15 Thread Thomas Hjorth
I can confirm this works for me as well. The server starts up as it
should though it tries to use the broken server. -

09:41:15.875048 IP 10.10.0.111.35488 68.142.88.34.27038: S
692173072:692173072(0) win 5840 mss 1460,sackOK,timestamp 3722501542

09:41:16.225855 IP 10.10.0.111.35490 68.142.88.34.27038: S
701074809:701074809(0) win 5840 mss 1460,sackOK,timestamp 3722501892

But Im guessing this means that the server isnt added to the master
servers and would not be listed on the global browsing list?

[hlds_linux] cl_interp

2009-06-15 Thread Ulrich Block
Since it is again possible to adjust your cl_interp, how can I force max
and minimum values server side?
If i force the sv_client_min_interp_ratio and max_updaterate, I can
force a minimal cl_interp value. But a maximal?
Before the change the default value that was calculated by
cl_updaterate/cl_interp_ratio was something like 0.0152.
At the moment the players which do not change their config have set
cl_interp 0.1. Playing with a 100m lerp is hard and I want to
force it to a lower value because most of the gamers do not know
anything about setting up thier config and blaming the server.

I have a request. Most likely a bit radical for your design, but very
much wanted.

The problem is as following. Steam uses IE as engine to display stuff in
the store, the motd etc etc.
As you know, IE is used less and less, and people now a days chose not
to install or update IE at all because their using an alternative
browser. (Our webstats show that IE is by far no longer the most used
browser).

Now to come to our problem, because we don't install or update IE
anymore, we get faced with all sorts of render problems caused by the
old IE engine (IE6). Widespread webmasters are fully dropping IE6
supports because their tired of having to implement countless hacks to
make it browser compatible.

Could steam please consider implementing or supporting alternative
browser engines?

Cheers,

Re: [hlds_linux] New browser engine support for steam?

2009-06-15 Thread ics
Not really. Valve could just require IE Installed on the PC or Steam
wont run (like it is required now). It's not their problem, EU turned it
to our problem for having to install it separately.I don't like having
it but as long as it is required, i'm forced to have in at my computer
without any other use.

However if Valve is ready to switch from IE to some browser that can be
included with Steam installation during that time, it would be even
better solution. I don't think that time is here yet due to their close
relations with Microsoft regarding plans for Xbox360 and how future
downloadable content would be shared on it instead of the current way.

But this is for hlds_linux issues, we are going too much offtopic here.

 Cheers,

Re: [hlds_linux] cl_interp

2009-06-15 Thread AnAkIn .
IMO, cl_interp_ratio/sv_min_client_interp_ratio/sv_max_client_interp_ratio
could be removed.
VALVe could just add sv_min_client_interp and sv_max_client_interp to set
the interp limits.
Since they added back cl_interp, cl_interp_ratio is like useless now. It is
just limiting the lower value of the interp.

OR

Remove cl_interp again and just use cl_interp_ratio. But this would cause a
lot of problems like when they first did that, a lot of people got no idea
of how to set cl_interp_ratio and were setting it to 0.01 etc.

Yes, it's the same, no need to restrict it. I don't know why Valve added the
restrictions. These CVars manages your connection, if you have a poor
connection, you have to adjust, if you have a better one, you have to
adjust. But some abusive servers force the rates to 60/60 or 100/100 and you
cannot play with a poor connection.

The console is correct, there really is no one connected. It seems this
player is somehow stuck in the server query responses. I'm going to
bounce the server and that should clear it up, but does anyone know what
could cause this to happen?

 Thanks,

Re: [hlds_linux] Stuck player on HLDS server

2009-06-15 Thread David A. Parker
No, they were connected. There's a record of them connecting but no
record of them disconnecting. And now that I'm digging through the logs
some more, there was another player who connected right after them and I
also have no record of that player disconnecting. But there are both
connect and disconnect messages for all other players on the server in
the last month (that's as far back as my logs go).

TF2 places its binaries in orangebox/bin , you must have some older binaries

Whoops! You're right (as usual). Those files are left over from an
HLDS installation I had in that directory about 6 months ago. Sorry
about that.

I can confirm this works for me as well. The server starts up as it

Im guessing you didnt remove it hard enough. I ran these commands in
$steamfolder/bin not $steamfolder/cstrike/bin

# ls -l |grep engine_amd.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5501661 May 12 01:44 engine_amd.so

69.28.153.82:27038 68.142.88.34:27038 68.142.72.250:27038

Feel free to verify the checksum... The server is of course up2date. (I
rebooting and everything according to standard support).

anyway, blocking the IP solves the problem and causes no harm if you
actually did remove it, which im sure you didnt.

Correct. I have a CS:S server that I shut down, then removed the three
bin/engine_xxx.so files from. I restarted the server and it auto-updated:

Auto detecting CPU
Using SSE2 Optimised binary.
Enabling debug mode
Server will auto-restart if there is a crash.
Updating server using Steam.
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Updating Installation
Checking/Installing 'Counter-Strike Source Shared Content' version 70

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Models' version 4

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Sounds' version 4

Checking/Installing 'Base Source Shared Materials' version 8

Checking/Installing 'Source Dedicated Server Linux' version 94

67.64% .\bin\engine_i486.so
100.00% .\bin\engine_i686.so

HLDS installation up to date

Then I checked those files and that IP address is still hard coded:

sr...@gamesrv1:/usr/local/srcds_1$ find ./bin -type f -exec grep
68.142.88.34 {} \;
Binary file ./bin/engine_amd.so matches

[hlds_linux] VAC performance issues.

2009-06-15 Thread Thomas Hjorth
Hi again Valve, Alfred? and others...

Im running a lot of 1.6 and source servers behind 1 IP using NAT. This
seems to be a big problem for VAC, since Im having more and more issues
about servers running INsecure due to no connection to steam VAC
servers. Further more VAC is causing a lot of random spikelags on random
servers.

The spikelag is gone when running the servers with -insecure which makes
it a pretty good reason to blame VAC. Further more the spikelags
happens in off-peak hours with almost no load on network and servers AND
with just 1-2 people jumping a bit around.

My questions are...
1. Are the VAC servers overloaded?
2. Or are they somehow throttling requests from a single IP?
3. if they are throttling, is there a way to get once IP approved in
some way?

I would hate to have to map a pool of external IPs to the internals
giving all the servers random external IPs on the server browser
lists. :-(

Argh, please learn the difference between replying to an existing thread
with
a new subject and starting a new one :P
This totally fucks up threads.

Re: [hlds_linux] Server's Don't Reconnect to Steam Again? :(

2009-06-15 Thread bl4nk
Bump. Same thing happened to me and a few other server admins just a bit
ago. Windows servers reconnect fine, but Linux servers still fail to
reconnect.

Debian 5.0r1 on a homebrew connection.

Don't reboot them next time. The more people complain the more likely it
 will get fixed :).

Had 11 servers not connected last night, all full but two and I had to
reboot them at 2am when I got home.
Only half the people rejoined as it was so late and they just went to bed
 after the server was rebooted.

 Sad panda.

they fixed it AGAIN, and then they broke it AGAIN

getting annoying. having to restart full servers is ridiculous.
