Re: [hlds_linux] CS1.6 Dedicated server: Performance problems
Hello, You should use a plain 2.6.x kernel. It works very well with custom sys_ticrate and pingboost. We used sys_ticrate 1000 and -pingboost 3 on a 2GHz CPU without any lag (20players). Cu. I jumped on the server last night and it was showing some kind of weird lag. Pings were all completely normal - but the game felt really jerky (even more than Source always does...). I thought it was just my client for a while but then some other players started mentioning it. The server had been on the same map for about two days (mp_timelimit 0). I restarted srcds and the problem disappeared. I'm guessing either some kind of memory leak or a time sync/drift issue (the box's clock is ntpd'd if that makes any difference). Well I guess the solution is to just set a mp_timelimit but I wanted to mention this as maybe it has other ramifications. -Simon ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
Re: [hlds_linux] Server Hardware
Hi, most of others distros use precompiled packages (with predefined compilation options/optimizations). gentoo gives you the possibilty (obligation?) to choose the compilation options/optimizations for (almost) every single package. since hlds is precompiled, the impact is limited to libraries. but the main reason i switched from debian to gentoo, is that i love gentoo system administration methods. i never saw a linux as easy :) i don't know centos, so i could not compare, sorry. cu, grosnours GameOnline Game Servers Renting ADSL Provider http://www.gameonline.be [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Sorry to jump onto someone elses post but was wondering if you could explain why you choose gentoo, and is there much between that ( for performance ) in compared to CentOS ? Re: [hlds_linux] Ventrilo as a cheat?
Hi, The use of Ventrilo/Teamspeak and others 3rd-party voice-comm makes Internet playing more like LAN playing. LAN speaking, when a player dies, he tells his mates where, why, how, and some insults. With the built-in voice-comm, it's not possible, where it is with Ventrilo :) It's not a cheat, it's to enhance playing experience ;-) And on public servers, when you come with 3-4 friends with Ventrilo, you get some fun that cannot be reproduced without voice-comm :] Finally, built-in voice-comm just sux :p cu -- grosnours http://www.GameOnline.be well, you could force voice comm, and there'd be contention for the mic if you tried to use ventrillo unless you had more than one sound card. I don't think there's really much point in ventrillo with games that already have built-in voice comm, but try telling that to die-hard ventrillo users. It does indeed allow ghosting, but I don't think it's that big of a problem. At least not on our server. Even when I've seen people doing it they've stopped when asked. Usually something along the lines of c'mon guys, it's just a pub server for fun, what's the point of what you're doing. Just play, is enough to get them to stop. Forcing chasecam doesn't really solve the problem completely either. You can still tell people where you were and who was there, etc, when you shouldn't be able to say anything at all. Re: [hlds_linux] [srcds] deactivating sv_hltv
Hi, To start a lightweight HLTV server, slave proxy just start srcds but without loading a map, just add hltv_connect ip:port. These relay proxies doesn't load any resources like maps or models, so they are cheap resource wise. It seems nice, as it seems not possible to changelevel on such DS. SRC HLTV is naked right now. Once CS:S networking is stable (it already is quite stable), more and more features will be added. If people use sv_hltv 1 on their server to record demos, but don't want people to connect as spectators, they can set 'hltv_maxclients 0'. I will add a a new command hltv_relayonly to allow only other relay proxies to the master server and not spectators. Recording demos on the DS should not be allowed by default ! It's not the job of the DS to record demos. Same for broadcasting HLTV. A dedicated HLTV or simply players have to record if it is needed. That means companies will have to check such files or change their policies. So to have HLTV on SRC as it was in HL1, start the server with sv_hltv 1, hltv_maxclients 1 and then start another SRCDS without map, hltv_connect server:port and then this second SRCDS is the like the master proxy in HL1. But this can be modified by customer too, it can't be allowed. I dont think its perfect, but atleast its better than nothing. Thanks for all these informations ;) I hope they will work on that. cu, -- grosnours http://www.GameOnline.be Regards Per Lambæk www.HLTV.org Leif wrote: But then the Customers need a solution to use their own HLTV Server or free HLTV Server´s from blank-tv or hltv.org.
