Although there is not much comparison to do. Everyone knows x.1d is a worthless dog in performance. I think I will be sticking with the x.0c patched version. I hope valve is listening becuase they haven't said much. As they can see 99.999% of the admins that operate their product want to revert back to 3.1.1.0c. I think if valve took a pole and asked which would you rather us do, keep developing and doing bug fixes on top of x.1 or would you rather us dump that development tree and restart all work on x.0c. I think we all know what the put come would be. VALVe, No one want x..1. Release a a x.0d that the ONLY difference is the fix for this exploit and we will all be happy leave you alone. Hi there. Before ranting on me, please note I put [OT] in the subject, as this is off topic. Thanks. `:) Tonight, I am trying to get together a stress test for my server. This test will be completely limited by CPU usage, rather than line speed. I have a completely stripped install of Linux running 3 10 player HLDS servers on a PIII 550mhz. My goal is to see if the machine can handle 3 full 10 player servers. I run no plugins what so ever, the machine is dedicated to HLDS. If you're willing to participate in the stress test and help me out, please stop by #teamelysium on irc.gamesnet.net tonight at 9:00PM PST. That is when the stress test will start. I just ran the proxy and boom, was good to go but friggin cameras when I joined the HLTV server! :( Joshua -Original Message- From: Paul Reid [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, September 03, 2002 9:01 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [hlds_linux] HLTV Questions Josh. Never seen that problem before, but I haven't used HLTV since 1.4. And yes if you record a demo, via a client connected to the HLTV proxy, it will allow you to flick through all the players when you replay. It used to be pretty buggy though, so I would record on both the HLTV proxy server and the client connected to it just in case. I read somewhere that if you begin recording before the map is loaded it grabs all the necessary textures etc. and is more reliable. The standard neat cmaera angles and such that I see on most HLTV servers isn't there. Everything is automatically first person. I can do standard spectating things just fine but no neat camera tricks like normal. I've gone through the documentation and can't find any notes on this?? Another quick question, if I do an rcon record demo.dem - will teh server record an HLTV demo - with the ability to click through everyone? Or can I just record a demo through a client and it'll have all the standard features of HLTV? If this isn't the propper place to post these questions, please let me know. :) Thank you, Joshua ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

I use pingboost 3 on a 550mhz w\256 megs of ram and have *zero* problems with 10 people on the server. :| Joshua -Original Message- From: Bill B [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, August 28, 2002 9:03 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [hlds_linux] Pingboost 3 impressions ... Hi Adam, Pingboost 3 was pretty unusable for me, it caused lag from hell at times. And this was on a 1.1 ghz server with up to 8 players! I use pingboost 2 and it helped lower peoples pings by 10 to 20 with no noticable lag increase and cpu was about the same as well. -Bill - Original Message - From: Adam Pearse [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, August 28, 2002 4:32 PM Subject: [hlds_linux] Pingboost 3 impressions ... This is the only process running. It is connected to a 10Mbit half duplex connection to the Net. I am wondering due to the fact that pingboost 3 processing a frame EVERY time a packet arrives and can cause extreme CPU usage, should some players experience warping or sliding effect when they are all in and around 30 - 50ms with a server average across all players of approx. 45 ms? Basically, has anyone else noticed that when running pingboost 3 that some (1 or 2) ppl are experiencing lag-like effect? ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
RE: [hlds_linux] Beta VAC module is kicking me
OGC often leaves behind traces and doesn't fully uninstall. To my knowledge the only way to fix this is to reformat. I'm sure there is an easier way. I just don't know it. I was installed OGC 10.1 and after i kicked from server deleted it. But VAC doesn't care of it. Still kicking me. I also uninstalled graphic card drivers and installed new detonator 40.x drivers (because of OpenGL suspect), then uninstalled and reinstalled my Half-Life and CS. But no way to play. It's still kicking me. Anyone can help me? Thank you. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Ok, this is driving me insane. Valve is busting their collective asses on the anti-cheat modules, and all most of you are doing is whining that' it's not good enough. Does it work 100%? No, but is it better than it had been? YES! Jesus Christ people, We aren't paying for valve to make the module, we paid our $20-50 to purchase the game awhile back, and I don't think any of us has really give a dime to Valve since then. so, I'm going to take the initiative here, instead of whining and saying that the new VAC module isn't good enough .. I'm going to raise my glass and take my hat off to Valve. Any other Game manufacturer would say People are cheating. oh well! We got our money! [hlds_linux] Ping Spikes?
Hiya, I'm new to this so bear with me. I am running a server with a PIII 550mhz and 256megs of ram. I'm getting random ping spikes to specific players. :\ Now, I know you guys know a few tricks to improve ping.. any idea what might be causing this? I'm running nothing but HLDS on the box, and only one instance of it at that. RE: [hlds_linux] LAN Party suggestions
IMO the 128megs of ram is *way* too little. We had a ton of problems. So numerous, I'm not sure whether it was the network or the server or both or something else. I guess what I'm asking is this: how should I configure so I know that any problems that come up aren't being caused by the server? (if you need any more info about the box, just ask) PII 450mHz 128mb ram 4gb hd barebones redhat 7.2 idealy I'd like to keep adminmod I want to run a 32 player CS server. (at the schindig we had before it was a different computer running hlds [it was generally better in all aspects, I don't remember specifics] but we experienced catastrophic packet loss in the 16 - 21 player range) the network was three 16 port linksys switches uplinked into a 5 port linksys switch that had this and another gameserver on it. Everyone plugged into the 16 port switches. We'd play alright for a while (about 10 min) and then pings went into the toilet (they averaged about 500ms at this point). The server continued to run through this. Oh yeah, it was CS 1.4 Anyway, what can I do to avoid these problems at the next party? I'm not really sure if it's realistic to go for the 32 players, so I'm anxious to see what you guys have to say.
