Make sure you don't have a firewall blocking the necessary ports. There
should be a port list on the site somewhere, I just can't remember where it
was right now.

Whenever I get that problem I just reconnect to steam. (client wise)You
could try to restart the server. But my experiences is that its a client
issue even though its not stated. Usually when I get that error I can
connect to some but not all servers. reconnect fixes it for me.

Allthough, I had some other problem that made me reinstall hlds from scratch
for it to work.

[hlds_linux] HLDS. User dropped

2006-08-15 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

Since a few weeks, we have the problem, that a few users can't connect to
the server:

---

Reason: Error verifying STEAM UserID Ticket(server was
unable to contact the authentication server).

---

The users can connect to other servers, but not on my server

Connections/Day are declined from >1000 to <200

Some Suggestions ? :)

[hlds_linux] Wrong Spraypaint

2006-03-06 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

we have made a Spraypaint for a member of our Clan...

Now, if she sprays the picture, all other people see a wrong picture from a
other player.

Only she is seeing the right Spraypaint

It appears in CZ and the file is tempdecal.wad...

Some people say it is a server-issue...

Some Suggestions ? :)

regards LuZi

P.S.: Sorry about my english :)

:)

Downloads are more important for me than Tabb-Browsing. :)

Maybe i try the Final-Release again...

Does it? I've not noticed this. I can also request files from my
sv_downloadurl web server (running IIS 6) using IE7 Beta 2 Preview just fine
as well, and I've had no reports from users to suggest otherwise.

Did you try adding your web server's domain into trusted sites before
uninstalling? Not that I have that here, just a thought.

If no one else is having this problem with the same download server you are
using, try the following:

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Cleanly_reinstalling_Steam

I had something similar this week where my CS client would connect to the
server fine if it had the local content, however any time it had to pull
down content, it crashed to the desktop. I thought it was our new
downloadserver, however I then noticed it extended to DoD when I played that
and it connect to a different download server. I forget what I was
searching for, however Google brought me to that page and it cured my
client-side issue.

Good luck,

Iirc, "no steam login" means that their ticket has expired.

Switching secure to 0 in liblist.gam is not doing anything anymore, you have
to start the server with -insecure to switch VAC off.

AW: [hlds_linux] SV_DOWNLOAD_URL-Problem

2006-02-04 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

Yes sv_downloadurl :)

If i have the files on Client, i can connect...

If i delete one, the Client 'crashes'

If i deactivate sv_downloadurl on the server, i can connect too (it
downloads than the normal way)

Because, all other people can use the url-download without problem, it must
be a thing between MY Client and the new Download-Location...

Something must be different to the old Content-Location, because with the
old, it runs without problem...

Confusing :)

Add user rights by nick and password. AMXX do support that and you'll have
no problems, while VALVE will fix this.

Yeah as soon as you see it happen, just reboot the offending server. Once it
starts it will go on and on at least for that map.

This just looks like jkl reconnecting after crashing/lagging out (note the 7
minute delay between the first and second connection). If you have more
examples of this (especially different users from different addresses
getting the same ID) then please email me the excerpts with all the log
details offlist (don't email users IP's or steam id's to this list please).

Run the update tool with "-verify_all" on the command line. Also add an
explicit +ip parameter incase your system is misconfigured ("hostname -i"
should return your public IP address, not loopback).

We have released a beta update for the Source and Half-Life 1 Linux
dedicated server. Run the hldsupdatetool with the "-beta linux" option to
get this update.

The update fixes the crash on startup on some Linux kernel versions.

Please apply this update even if you don't experience the crash to ensure
that when it is released publicly it doesn't cause you a problem.

You are right, when you find fault on valve with their Test-Equipment
(Kernel-Tests on Update)...

But i have never seen a Distributor, that is so close (and fast) to his
important customers (server administrators)

Where on earth you have so quick reactions on problems ?

I think nowhere

Critism is good, but don't overdo it :)

Recently, Valve Inc has hit an all-time LOW on software releases, poorly
tested, no release notes, no support apart from 'alfred' who kinda knows
what hes doing when people report the problems HIS company should have
spotted

COME ON VALVE wake up and smell the coffee, this has been far from
acceptable in recent weeks.

To 'Alfred' when are you going to release FULL and INSTRUCTIVE information
on your server software so that we dont have to rely on rumour and hearsay.

AW: AW: [hlds_linux] Confused Steam-IDs

2005-11-27 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

I have a ID-Database (and Names) with over 5000 Players (from our server),
And so i can control this very good...

In much of the cases, that i have checked, they became a known ID,
And the players that owns this ID, can't connect

And 2 hours ago, a foreign player became a Admin-ID...

Regards LuZi

P.S.: Sorry about my english :)

Hmm.. Are you shure they get an steamid allready known? According to your
logs the steamid is extremely high. Feels more that its a new steamid.

Its still a bug, but can you verify that it can have a known steamid?

If its only generating new steamid's you dont have to worry about the
adminpart.

AW: [hlds_linux] Confused Steam-IDs

2005-11-27 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

Yes...the Steam-Ids are wrong in the status-screen too...

How can i post a example ? The only thing i can post is a piece of the
log-files:

L 11/27/2005 - 14:10:41: "-=]DT[=- jkl! <3<1953><>" entered
the game
L 11/27/2005 - 14:17:26: "unnamed<1966><>" entered the
game

-=]DT[=- jkl! <3 now was kicked by console with 'steamid already'

L 11/27/2005 - 14:17:56: "unnamed<1966><>" STEAM USERID
validated
L 11/27/2005 - 14:18:02: "-=]DT[=- jkl!
<3<1967>" triggered "time" (time "0:01")
L 11/27/2005 - 14:18:02: "-=]DT[=- jkl!
<3<1967>" triggered "latency" (ping "0")
L 11/27/2005 - 14:18:02: "-=]DT[=- jkl! <3<1967><>"
disconnected
L 11/27/2005 - 14:18:02: "-=]DT[=- jkl! <3<1967><>"
entered the game
L 11/27/2005 - 14:18:43: "-=]DT[=- jkl!
<3<1969>"

Now JKL became a wrong SteamIDAnd it will not be validated by
Steam-Net

This is only a little piece of the chaosthis happens to 75% of the
players...

It is a big problem for us, because of the stats, bans and so on,
but the BIGGEST PROBLEM is, that players can became Ids from Admins,
and with AMXMOD they can now mess up the whole server

Very annoying...

[hlds_linux] Confused Steam-IDs

2005-11-27 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

Since the last update of the HL1-Engine (maybe relate to this),
The Steam_Ids of the players are appearing double...

The problem with this is, that the players became errors like
'steam-id already in use' or the wrong players are kicked and banned

After retry, the player became a totally changed ID (from a different player
playing before on the server)...

All our Stats, Banlists, and ID-Databases are wrong now

PLEASE !!! Suggestions ? It's very urgent

We have 3Connections/Month and it will messed up the whole
Server-Community !

Regards LuZi

AW: AW: [hlds_linux] Half-Life 1 Engine update

2005-11-22 Thread LuZiFeR
Thx

But now i use the older version to run the servers...

The players will kill me, when i annoy them with to many restarts
(3Connections/Month) :D

Regards LuZi

P.S.: It would be nice anyway, if Valve fix this issue (if it's a bug)
:)

try using the i486 module. I have found in past times when updates bork
things the 486 one is usually stable until the issues pass.

We have released an update to the Half-Life 1 Engine. If you run any mod
that uses the Half-Life 1 Engine you should get this update. To get the
update run the hldsupdatetool.

This update fixes the "-sport" parameter and makes Steam use the same IP as
your server (for multi-homed machines).

This update also increases the minimum OS requirements for Linux users to
GLIBC 2.3.2 (to match the current requirement for the Source Engine). The
hldsupdatetool will verify your OS version and tell you if there is a
problem.

I have a rather unique network setup (multi-homed nic+an outgoing PPPoE DSL
connection), and I get this occasionally ... what seems to work is bringing
up the console and typing "ip my.outgoing.dsl.ipaddress" (e.g. primary
gateway), and then I'll be able to connect fine.

I wouldn't rule out that being a fluke, but it's possible VAC2 has some
clientside problems with complex/broken network setups such as mine.

If you have something similar going on (nic+other wan connection), it might
be worth checking.

[hlds_linux] 3 Prozesses of hlds since yesterday

2005-04-23 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

Since yesterday our server is catching 3 processes at one time:

 3747 root 18 0 85152 83m 6308 R 56.1 16.8 26:40.66 hlds_i686
 3748 root 9 0 85152 83m 6308 S 0.0 16.8 0:00.00 hlds_i686
 3749 root 9 0 85152 83m 6308 S 0.0 16.8 0:00.00 hlds_i686

And it's lagging like hell...

Someone know, what this could be ?

Linux, 1GB, 1CPU 2.4GHz

[hlds_linux] Ping-Probs with CSS

2004-12-20 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

The pings on my CSS-Server are >100

Regardless how much players are on it...

But the CS1.6 on the same Server-Hardware got 10-30...

The memory and the prozessors are not overloaded (around 50%), when both
servers are rumming...

Is there a way to optimize the pings in CSS ?

I think you need to remove the Y at end of line.

I have an other problem.
I have a RedHat 7.2 and the server can't be loaded.

./srcds_run -console -pingboost 1 -game cstrike +map de_dust +maxplayers 32
+hostport 27015 Auto detecting CPU Using default binary. Enabling debug mode
Auto-restarting the server on crash sam nov 20 00:56:55 CET 2004: Server
Quit

The same configuration on a debian works fine.
I have that it can be a glibc version problem.
I have install the 2.2.5 but it's the same problem.

Do you have an idea ?

Thanks,
Adrien.

[hlds_linux] Problem with CSS-Server Installation on Linux

2004-11-19 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

I've tried to install a new CSS-Server on Linux, but it won't work.

The following errors accours:

Login failed. This account does not exist, or the password is incorrect.

But the account works fine on all my other servers.

When i create a new account, the error looks like this:

Connection Closed by Peer

Until last week, there was running a css-beta server on this machine without
problems.

It's a dedicated server with no router, firewall etc.

The command i've used is: ./steam -update "Counter-Strike Source"
/home/xxx//hlds_l xxx Y

I've replaced the hldsupdatetool and unpack it, but no change

Any suggestions ? :)

[hlds_linux] CZ-Server needs more ressources than all other servers

2004-09-15 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

I run 3 Servers on one Hardware (CZ,CSS,CS) and the CZ-Server needs most of
my HW-Ressources:

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEMTIME+ COMMAND
8523 16 0 139m 124m 4140 R 71.5 25.2 169:06.25 hlds_i686
2617 9 0 67464 61m 53m R 3.3 12.4 63:14.17 hlds_i686
2533 9 0 49380 27m 20m S 0.7 5.5 21:24.84 srcds_i686

And sometimes, the pings of the CZ-Server increases up to 200(every
several minutes for 10-15 Seconds)

Between this, the pings are at 10-30

If i stop the other Servers, the problem persists

HW: 2x2.6GHz P4, 2 GB Ram.

Some suggestions ? :)

Hey all.

What I did to find my motd.txt was to use slocate.

the motd.txt file resides in: /home/$user/cs2src/cstrike (this is my
preference)

If you have troubles finding your motd.txt do the following:

updatedb

slocate motd.txt

This should find you an accurate location of where motd.txt is in your
server.

Good luck

[hlds_linux] CSS-Server Mapchange

2004-08-19 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

I've set my mp_timelimit to 30, to ensure, that my logs are'nt crowing too
much (for stats).

Now, when the map ends, the loadingprocess starts with no advance notice
(mp_chattime 10).

How can i ensure, that the server shows the score at the mapend ? Or is it
impossible right now ?

The Counter-Strike: Source Beta dedicated server (SRCDS) is now available to
both win32 and linux server operators. This should give server
administrators enough time to have enough servers up and running before the
release to Condition Zero and ATI coupon customers next week.

You can download the update tool from <
http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=getsteamnow > or copy your
existing hldsupdate binary into a clean directory. To get your server up and
running, use this syntax:

-command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir .
-username -password

For example:
Hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir .
-username valve -password valve

The quotes around "Counter-Strike Source" are important.

Do not install the SRCDS into an existing installation, the two will
interfere with each other.

This beta release designed to allow us determine any technical problems in
the product and to allow dedicated server operators to evaluate the program.
The beta release of the SRCDS (and only the SRCDS) is freely available to
any steam user via the update tool (you do not need to be an CZ or ATI
user).

As part of the beta process please report any bug and suggestions to this
list. During the beta we will be continually updating a page on
http://www.steampowered.com/ with the current list of known issues (I will
pass on the URL for it later today).

AW: [hlds_linux] ESL preferred CD until tomorrow ! What about VAC ?

2004-06-08 Thread LuZiFeR
Hi,

Hmmm I don't have the feeling, that Valve ignore the
customers/playersThey do much, especially in the last months, but just
VAC is one of the important things on this platform, and i wish, that they
attach more importance to thatLike some months ago

Kinda sad when they don't answer you. You would think that this looks bad
for the company. I’m studying stocks right now in school and after seeing
how valve seems to blatently ignore what people are saying about things, I
wouldn't even fathom buying valve stock (if its public I haven't checked
^^). I can't even begin to talk about the enormous amount of crappy players
that suddenly get very good after a week or so without a VAC update...its
really sad.

of black-list is depressing, here are a couple of examples from the last

AW: [hlds_linux] What's the meaning of the pingboost-values ?

2004-02-22 Thread LuZiFeR
Thx...

I have test it, and my fps are changing between 200 and 30...

Unfortunatly the pings are higher than in 'normal' mode with udpsoft
too...

The CPU (2.8GHz P4) increases the Usage only to 10% on pingboost
3...(normally 5 %)

So, i will go back to the non-boost mode

Maybe the linux-version is the reason for the poor Pings, because

On my oldest server (Celeron700) the pings are 50% better.

:) very confusing

Betreff: Re: [hlds_linux] What's the meaning of the pingboost-values ?

This info i found on http://server.counter-strike.net/forums/

All the pingboot modes attempt to reduce the latency caused by the
server.
The default implementation adds around 20msec to each players ping
(underlinux).

Mode "1" reduces this by using a different wait method (a select()
call).
This method reduces the latency to 10msec.

Mode "2" uses a similar but slightly different method (and alarm() type
call). Again, the result it 10msec worth of latency being added. NOTE
that
this method has the potential to hang a server in certain (terminal)
situations. If anyone has used this mode recently (not the first test we
did!) and it hangs please speak up :)

Mode "3" minimises the latency to the minimum possible level by
processing a
frame EVERY time a packet arrives. This causes the lowest possible
latency,
but can also cause extreme CPU usages (it does a complete frame for
every
packet, with each player sending lots of packets per second and 30
players
this adds up to insane amounts of frames). Use this mode at your own
risk,
it will consume all available CPU, don't complain that cstrike uses too
muc
h CPU if you use this mode :-) In a future release this mode will be
tweaked to let the admin balance latencies agains CPU usage (by
processing a
frame every N packets).

Hope that helps :)

AW: [hlds_linux] HLTV?

2004-02-09 Thread LuZiFeR
Some Bugs are reported here, but here are the probs from me:

- TGA-Picture generates a Error-Message, but not at everyonealthough
i use the right size and type
- One of my HLTV increases his memory-size to 800-1000MB, don't know
why, it's only one out of 7 (they identical, because copied)
- And a bunch of little bugs (chear don't work sometimes, some of the
commands from the HELP don't work...)

Hello,

I have 2 CS 5.2beta - Server running. The 5.2 Players are using the
Old-School-Browser from langames.net.

The page and the Won-Server (that is in the browser-config) are down
since a couple of days

Is there a possibility, to set up my own Won-Server, like langames.net
do ?

There are only 5-6 Servers on, for 5.2, but a handfull of players have
fun to play this version (among 1.6).

Any suggestions ?

Regards LuZi

[hlds_linux] HLTV-Banner-Problem

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
Hi,

I have used a 24bit TGA-Banner and it works fine before, but not since
the last dedi-update
After some size-changes on the banner, some people can connect to the
HLTV, some cannot
They are becoming the same error as before, with the message that the
Type of TGA is wrong.
Some suggestions ?

Regards Christoph
