maxplayers currently set at 8 but I would quite like to be able to join
the game myself even if 8 people are playing on the server. Any ideas?
Failing that, is there a way to kick a player and give them a message
similar to 'Sorry but the server admin wants to play' :)

Some Metamodplugins like amxmodx have slot reservation plugins.
For example: http://www.amxmodx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=8208
There are several similar plugins. Google will find one for you with best
suits your needs.

It's confusing and does not have to be.

Please update the binary AT LEAST ONCE with the changed syntax.

RE: [hlds_linux] CSS Client server lookup on a LAN..Alfred?

If you find a solution, could you be so kind and post it here?
Something like a steamproxy (which has all the content data and direct
only the logindata to the realsteamserver) would be great.
For the clients a little which you can use to enter one or more content
server
ips (the proxy ips).
That would save a lot of bandwith on LAN Partys.

With the problems of having a solid internet connection and steam having

If we can come to some kind of agreement/setup then I think that

Subject: [hlds_linux] CSS Client server lookup on a LAN

  Hey folks,

Let me start off with what our situation is...

This past weekend we were part of the network/server team at a
400man LAN event. One of the small problems we had was not everyone

could see all of the CSS servers that were being hosted. There were
14 CSS official servers, 10 of which were tourney. Source was not
the only game to give us this problem.. But since CSS was one of
the more played games we are starting with it.

  sv_lan was set at 1

We were running a 350+ node private network using the 10.x.x.x
  range with 255.255.0.0 mask

We are working on streamlining the network a bit

We have 2 more of these events to host this year and we would like
to get a better feel for what the client/server interaction is for
  network lookup/announce.

Does setting the sv_lan 1 not only remove the server/client auth
but make it so that the above network setup is out of the question?

Would using sv_lan 0 with the auth ports for the server blocked
work? We have limited internet bandwidth for these events, and
unfortunately steam was having issues on the weekend of our last
event and left a lot of gamers unhappy about not being able to log
into their account, while others could. We did have the client
  steam auth ports open.

  Thanks,

  SP_Kenny

Valve keeps stating how to set the rcon_password but never specifies

In your server.cfg you set a rcon password with 'rcon_password

Then connect to your server, type in the console: rcon_password

Then you can use with rcon command every command which is directly
avaible from the

Did you know that Blizzard bans keys forever, if they are caught

Besides, you're not really banned from online play, just all VAC enabled

I fully agree that cheaters should get banned but how you can be sure
people are cheating?
If somebody uses linux + wine and a new vac update detects wine as a cheat.
So he gets banned.
This is not ok. Some people had that problem when they were using cheating

only ban people if they are 100% sure about that they are cheating.

The sad thing is that there are a lot of servers out there - no doubt
the number is increasing daily. However, the bulk of them are kiddie
servers running on daddy's PC and a cable modem connection offering 32
player slots and lagging above 8. The quality servers are run by the
professionals who do things like participate in this list and complain
when things are bad. Why complain? Because they care about the quality
of the experience people have on their servers. What we are seeing here
is all the people who care are leaving the game. What will be left are
thousands of crap servers. Then we'll see if the game remains so
popular...

I think as long as people enjoy playing cs there will be enough servers
because
all those cs guys have a clan (or more) and together they can easily rent a
server
without any knowledge. And why should the server companies say no? It is
quite simple:
If a game server takes too much cpu time, they increase their prices. Valve
spend a lot of
money in a system which makes online gaming easy for everybody. Some of the
guys who
used the old system say that it is waste of time but valve has to earn
money and so they
tested steam with cs for using it with cs:cz/hl2 etc. Maybe Valve takes all
his(or their? sry my
english is worse) knowledge from the hlds and will make a great hl2 server.

What'd be even better is if Valve would actually attempt to take some
administrative steps to clean their damn mailing lists (html,

We are releasing an update for servers this evening. The changelog for
 this update is:
-Changed HTTP download behavior to retry connections using old trickle
download method if it can't download all files.
-Fixed a crash bug when connecting to a dedicated server with an empty
 mapcycle.
-Fixed a bug where MP3 volume wasn't working properly.
-Fixed STEAM UserID X is already in use on this server message when
connecting to LAN servers in offline mode.
 -Fixed memory leak in HLTV.

You will need to manually run the hldsupdatetool (win32) or the
steam binary (linux) to get this update. You can also download the
 changed files via bittorrent:

Its an experimental feature (the lack of documentation reflects the lack

So give us poor souls some quicky type documentation here. :) Whats the
root folder of the web server?

sv_downloadurl http://www.???.com/hlds_l; - this would mean

this?:
http://www.???.com/hlds_l/$mod/

And is this function working? Also, are there rate limits involved
here, at least anything we can control? Can we put the .ztmp files on
the web server so downloads are compressed?

hi!

i have linux box with 2 lnxded servers running. one server is clanwars
server (12 players max), and another one is 32 maxplayers (in the rest of
text: public server). both servers are working in lan. to avoid confusion,
i will say that if cw server is in use, not many players are playing on
public server (up to 5-6 players). ping on cw server never goes over 20ms,
but at the same time, other server have ping times over 25ms and
incerasing with more players playing on public server. when cw server is
not in use (but still running in background) ping times on public server
are just like in cw server.
my linux box is running gentoo linux 1.4, gaming-sources kernel compiled
(for non-gentoo users: gaming-sources is kernel package optimized for
linux gamers; it includes some patches, etc..). hardware is as follows:
amd athlon xp 1700+, 512mb ddr, nforce chipset.
cw server cfg file is as specified by cpl rules. so, sv_maxrate is 25000,
and sv_maxupdaterate is 101. but public server runs using sv_maxrate 2
and sv_maxupdaterate 30. when i look at procesor usage when clanwars
server is full, cw server process uses about 37% of cpu, and public server
with 5-6 players (at the same time) takes 0-1% of cpu power (?!). if cw
server is empty, and if there is about 10-12 players playing on public
server, that process uses about 20-21% of cpu power (guess that is because
of different server.cfg variables).
server startup cmds:

/hlds_run -game cstrike -maxplayers 32 +map de_nuke -port 27015 -nomaster
-insecure +sv_lan 1 -pingboost 1 -tos
/hlds_run -game cstrike -maxplayers 12 +map de_nuke -port 27015 -nomaster
-insecure +sv_lan 1 -pingboost 1 -tos

please help! tbh, everything is working fine, except great ping in public
server during clanwars.

p.s. sorry for my bad english :/
