Re: [hlds_linux] Lotus.clan

2009-06-08 Thread HoundDawg
I do play, and often. I too sort by ping and players, which I then also
look at the player names on the server before joining (many servers are
obviously using bots and such as the names are way predictable). I'm
just saying, that the constant de-list comments to Valve are becoming so
frequent, that I'm sure they're even deleting full threads without
reading them.

Perhaps a better option, is to provide Valve with the real problem and
possibly a few options, like being able to ignore/de-list servers on the
client side. I know that I would like that feature and it seems simple
enough, just save a list of IP:Port of ignored servers to a file and
filter them out (perhaps with an option to do this or not on the filter
window).

I'm sure Valve would be more receptive to real issues and possible
solutions than the constant server complaints we've been seeing.

Personally, once I find a few servers I like, they make it into my
favorites and I rarely go looking for new ones. But, that's just me.

You speak as though you haven't ever played a source game. I usually

online players, it clutters the server window. There is no easy way to
remove these servers from the listing client side. I'd really prefer to
not shop around to find a full server. These empty servers detract
from the quality of the game. If I had an easy way to programmatically
block these servers client side I wouldn't complain since I would be
able to fix the problem. But, since there is no such method and Valve
isn't cleaning out the list, I feel that the only way to fix to problem
 is to complain publicly.

Re: [hlds_linux] Lotus.clan

2009-06-07 Thread D3vilfish
Your disillusion of yourself obviously shows with your first statement.
As pointed out by members on that thread filling a server with fake clients
1. May get you delisted
2. Doesn't give a good experience for the end user.
Hence why you FAIL.
Then lets look at your next comment about top ranked clan servers!
How exactly do you think they be came top ranked, was it through word and
mouth of running good servers and building a community to support the
players so they enjoy playing there?
NO they con players on to there servers showing servers virtually full even
when there virtually empty. Unfortunately so many unsuspecting publics join
and make a snow ball effect, as we've all pointed out before if a server
only has 2 or 20 players on it at least when someone random joins they know
that.
Hence why servers listing fake connections to populate there servers are
also FAIL.
The affect that this has on the genuine games community is 2 fold.
1. Random publics are enticed onto substandard servers and don't join good
community servers.
2. The publics then have a bad gaming experience which generally will change
there point of view of said game in a negative way.

Someone pointed out what does this have to do with running servers, this has
everything to-do with running servers. This has to-do with running good
servers to meet the needs of the end user because that is how real player
bases communities are built unlike the con artists of XXL Lotus!

Im an average guy I work hard for a living and ive been running our games
community as a interest for over 5 years which we started with as a
cs1.2/3/4/5/6 clan and slowly built up from there, its like being shafted
every time I turn the pc on to see these idiots abusing the gaming community
in general.
Peace to all genuine admins let the rest rot in hell!

There's legitimate reasons why servers may have bots - they could be running an
an airshot map, for example. In my community, practice maps like that are run

only one server might run it public some of the time, and have it on airshot

Re: [hlds_linux] Lotus.clan

2009-06-07 Thread HoundDawg
There sure has been a lot of QQ about other servers on these lists
lately. Are you guys really that jealous? Is it really worth all of
the time and energy whining about de-listing these servers, de-listing
those servers, etc? Just run your servers, build your community, and
re-route that energy into having fun on your servers, with your
community of players.

Players that connect to these other servers will eventually discover
that they're not getting what they were expecting and will move on. If
not, then perhaps they deserve to be there? The better players will
shop around the servers looking for the right ones they enjoy playing.
Focus on providing that environment for them, not complaining about others.

Besides, server ranking won't matter if you have a solid community. For
example, Voogru's TF2 server is constantly full. There are real
players, which are really good and fun to play on a team with. His
dodgeball server, although exclusive, still manages to never be empty.
He works hard to create a fun gaming environment, which keep the players
coming back and his servers on the favorites list, which is by far
better than Valve's server ranking system.

I think we've all seen plenty of server complaints over the past week,
let's give it a rest and go back to enjoying the game.

Isn't it time that like Q clan valve stepped in and sorted out lotus clan.
Using tactics to fill there servers with fake connections is never going to
give the client end user a good gaming experience. Joining a server 25/32
and finding nobody is actually on the server is exactly what the delisting
was all about yet Lotus bypassed the whole rating showing there actual
servers with real connections in all valve/3rd party browsers desktop, in
 game, hlsw.
There servers performance isn't particularly good there website is a mess
and all there doing is conning money from end users for so called popular
 servers.

You speak as though you haven't ever played a source game. I usually
play on servers that have lots of people already on, and sort the server
list by occupancy. When multiple clans begin to fake the number of
online players, it clutters the server window.
