RE: [hlds_linux] VAC, Seriously.... virus warning not me, as usual
its not me this is a typical forged sender email from every recent virus. My email is [EMAIL PROTECTED] not michiganburbs or what ever it says secondly, I use norton corporate antivirus, and also my email is set to auto delete pretty much every attachment type except zip and rar... Every time a new virus comes out, my email is swamped because its been out on the net, and an buttload of people in the cs community have it in their addressbooks... ( i run http://countermap.counter-strike.net ) so I am guaranteed to be in some noobs addressbook who likes to click on attachments I've even run the bugbear removal tool from symantec. clean. sorry guys, but as most have already figured out, most modern viruses randomly forge the sender headers from the infected computers addressbook and other places it can glean valid emails... kev ->-Original Message- ->From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ->[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of [TD]MoD ->Sent: Friday, July 04, 2003 7:36 AM ->To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Kevin J. Remeber to check in with mr D to get info about dental plans and privileges ;-) Meanwhile I'll reapeat some important tidbits you obviously missed like * Drew is admining/responsible for the majority of servers in NZ (I assume that the mentioned 99% is a slight exageration, but still points at a good share of the servers). * International connection sux (giving high latency/ping as well as possibly freeze-lagg for people playing on foreign servers). * Drew is apparently an active anticheater in NZ gaming circles. These things put him in the very special position where he can in fact (if he chooses to) pretty much decide if the NZ players should use VAC/VSM, CD or neighter. In short, there won't be too many "other servers" with VAC running to worry about (that NZ players will realistically connect to due to latency and lagg) if he would choose to go down the CD route :) Also if the majority of servers in NZ should switch to CD, very likely many of the remaining ones would do too, if nothing else out of convenience for the players. So in this very special case a "local install of CD" as you call it would very likely solve the problem of his mashines getting banned even on other servers. -- /Stefan Software never has bugs. I have a spare machine at home that I have CS installed on, and a random choice of OGC I downloaded a while ago. This is for watching demo's of suspected wall hackers. I was amazed because the version of OGC I downloaded before that was like 6 or something when CSG was still around, and it basically had NO install. You just run the exe, setup a couple hot keys, minimize it then play CS. I can't imagine how you would "lock down" on the desktop against a hack like this. There was an exe, a dll and an ini file. Thats it. Because they monitor their systems. The company drew works for is not ya typical pay 2 bucks and use the machine to take over the world, net cafe. Drew is also an active member of the anticheat community in NZ. The Cafemangement system polls the processlist every 15 seconds per machine, if there is anything new it alerts us straight away on the front counter which the machine status is too repolled every 15 seconds for all machines.
