Adding to this annoyance is people who fake player count... server reports 24/28 people online, you get there and nobody is there... the gimmick to get people into their boxes is really irritating. Re: [hlds_linux] Those damn reserved slots. [TF2]
I don't really understand where your problem is ... oO - You don't have download content, you can disable that with a cvar. - You don't have to play on servers with stupid server settings ... On my servers i have 32 slot max, 1 is reserved and sv_visiblemaxplayers is 31 ... So the server says maxslots are 31 instead of 32 ... People are not able to join my server with the GUI with 31/31 players. And all other players can use the reserved hidden slot with using the console to connect. Never had any problems with that ... -Original Message- From: hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com [mailto:hlds_linux-boun...@list.valvesoftware.com] On Behalf Of Carl Sent: Thursday, February 12, 2009 2:29 PM To: Half-Life dedicated Linux server mailing list Subject: [hlds_linux] Those damn reserved slots. We have reserved slots implemented which are hidden. This means when the server is 'full', it will show 26/26 on the list. Actually it's a 28 slots server, but the reserved slots are only available when you use the connect command in your console. When a reserved slot user joins the server will show 27/26 (also full) and when someone drops it goes back to 26/26. Works like a charm, clients can use auto-retry. Re: [hlds_linux] Those damn reserved slots. [TF2]
I do the same thing, except it's a 26 slot server with 2 hidden (shows 24/24 - 25/24 - 26/24). Check out H-Reserved (Advanced Reserved Slots) on the SourceMod forums. It makes it very easy. I personally am amazed the op still has people on his server, what with kicking people randomly and all :/ There's really no reason to use auto-kick reserved slots or manually kick people with the 'hidden slots' system available. Re: [hlds_linux] Those damn reserved slots. [TF2]
Well, if anyone of you are indeed using reserved slots and have them set to be free always, atleast mask them with sv_visiblemaxplayers XX. (if you have 32 slot server with 2 reserve slots, set this to 30, if you for 25 slot server with 1 reserve slot, set this to 24). There are a lot of these servers which do not mask the slots in any way. -ics SainK. kirjoitti: Well it's pretty straight forward. Re: [hlds_linux] Those damn reserved slots. [TF2]
Even sv_visiblemaxplayers won't always fix the issue. If two clients join at the same time (say your server is 23/24 with one reserve so technically 25 slots) they'll both hit the server. Whichever one happens to have joined that millisecond earlier will be admitted to the server, while the other client will be kicked for a reserve slot. None of my servers have reserve slots. All of our clients (even our admins) wait like everyone else, and if there's an issue we have SourceTV for watching players rather than actually joining the server itself.
