I live in Napoli, and though I've never seen a TV in the pit
at Teatro San Carlo, I can't say it would surprise me.
Nothing does in this city anymore.
The other day I saw a guy on a scooter, next to his horse,
with a rope tied around his horse's neck going down the
street.

Crossword PDA during rehearsals This is nothing
compared with
the orchestra of Teatro San Carlo in Napoli, where the
trumpeters had a
mini-TV in the pit, watching a soccer game between the
teams of Italy
Germany. When there was the 2nd goal shot by the Italian
squad, they
jumped screamed. But it happen during a performance of

Greetings -

I felt so great 20 plus years ago when I figured how to
empty my horn
using my water keys and taking out only two slides.

But then, a couple of months ago, during a rehearsal when
the ragging
rag, PDA and crosswords just weren't enough diversion, I
studied where
the water actually collected, and figured how to empty the
horn through
the two water keys alone without taking out any slides.

Tweny years of silliness, wearing out the slide tubes.

On another note, I had occassion to take one of my valves
out
yesterday. It was 100% clean. There was nothing on it other
than water
and a bit of kerosene. 25 years ago the valves were nickel
plated.

Ooh, I love my horn!

Regards, Carlberg

[Hornlist] Survey

2005-11-12 Thread William Foss

Dear List,
I am doing a statistics for my math class. My topic is practice habits of
professional players. If as many teachers or professional players could let
me know:

How many hours per week do you practice?
The requirements of the project require the poll to include fifty people.
So, I would like to get as many replies as possible. Feel free to contact me
privately or on-list.

Thank you very much

Re: [Hornlist] Survey

2005-11-12 Thread William Foss

Dear List,
The question relates to statistics; I have to have something that averages
to a solid number. Then, I will create a frequency distribution table to
represent the data, find central tendency, variance, and standard deviation.
The question is one that simply gives a single set of numbers. That is all
that I am looking for.

I am not a professional, but would like to be. I practice three 45 minute
sessions a day, every day. On days I play in ensembles, 2 1/2 hours on mf
and
4 hours on w, I practice about 45 minutes on mf, and none on w. But then
I'm trying to get there.
