me too. it is unique, and represents a unique period in the evolution of
the project.

the careful *evolution* of a logo is not synonymous to disavowing its
past. it epitomizes the many changes that have happened since the
previous logo was adopted.

Batch: instead of the repeated (and more and more out of focus) person I
think about (foot) steps, just smaller and smaller. How about that image?

That's the about dialog and also startup screen.

>From the newer versions I like the a9 version because of the trapezoid,
I see a plane (the geometric figure as mentioned in recent discussions,
not the aiplane)... I only think the plane in the background should
"look" in the other direction, i.e. it needs to be mirrored. I also have
a little problem with the soft white reflexes, they are too soft.

I'm amazed that the svg directly opens in Firefox! Adobe Illustrator
wouldn't do it BTW! "unknown Error", Haha!
Inkscape works... let's see if I can do some modifications.

[hugin-ptx] Re: Some hugin related scalable graphic

2009-10-20 Thread grow

I think that once you know the mythological origins of the name
"Hugin"
  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huginn_and_Muninn
(which I must admit I only learned recently from someone here)
having something that suggests a raven in the icon is appealing. For
me the stylised "h" has some echo of a flying raven about it and that
is something strongly in its favour. Also I like the horizontal
rectangle as invoking a conventional panorama,

So for those reasons I would favour:
   C2 and D2

all the best

I actually prefer A9 and B9 which give a slight 3D-hint, something
which might be more important with the upcoming layout model (as far
as I understand it...).
I agree with Yuv and Bart that the name of the game (Hugin) should
appear on the icon, even if that is generally not the case for
application icons on OS X, but would make for a more squareish icon,
which on the other hand is the case on OS X.

And finishing, I also would like to thank you for this nice refresh of
the logo.

have a nice evening

Should the batch stitcher also carry the word "batcher" or something

from my perspective, what we still need is the handwritten "Hugin" under

When re-writing / re-designing the font, please note that we try to
consistently capitalize Hugin now (I'll fix the about screen right away).

I've opened a new folder in the website. hugin/htdocs/nd (for new
design). It is unlinked, so you can experiment whatever you want there,
ping the world when you need testing / opinions. When it is ready we can
use it to replace htdocs.

What I would like to do is to release the refreshed
website/logo/icons/etc) simultaneously with one of the next releases of
Hugin.

I'm against this. In marketing speech it's called watering down the
brand. There is _one_ icon and _one_ logo and it is chosen by the team.
I can live with any of them.

Maybe I would like the glossly a little bit more if the color would not
look just like a big blurred patch, but would rather have the movement
of a brush painting with aquarel similar to the movement of the chalk on
the texture that we have now.

my vote is with Luca Vascon - the author of the original logo/icon. If
he likes the derivative of his work, I'm with him.

Actually I "replied to author" on the google group, which went to your
levy.ch account it seemed. The user id is 'bavanandel', but I have to
add that I cannot put a whole lot of time into it right now,
unfortunately I have other (more important) business to finish atm.

About the svg files: I like the glossy finish versions, but I'd
suggest to put the glossy white overlay behind the character, so it's
more like the puppet is presenting a panorama. That said, I think the
widescreen logos will better suit Hugin as it represents the shape of
a panorama a bit.

I'd like to see both the original crayon effect version and the glossy
version shipped with Hugin, so users can select their own icon. For
the website, one logo will have to be chosen. If the glossy one is
finished, maybe we can put up a small poll to see what users like
best.

What is more important to me, in this thread, is to hear Luca Vascon's

The rest I am pretty much agnostic about as long as we do it well. I can

It seems to be a marketing-habit to change / evolve the logo / icon from
time to time, like it is to change the website (Bart, any news? I still
don't have your SourceForge user id).

What is important to me is that we do it coordinated (i.e. new logo, new

tell you that when I was in Switzerland I saw a Hugin logo printed on

I think that the highlight looks good over the symbol only if the

I also like the wide variation of the icons.

The batch processor icon is a little confusing, there should be a
contrasting border around each 'h' so that they are distinguishable from
each other where they overlap. (Or similar if you replace it with the

I'd also vote for keeping the man with the open arms. I think it's a
nice gesture, which relates to the scope of the program itself. And
since most panoramas are wide rectangles I'd also vote for a wide
variant.

Buona sera.

nice work! Luca Vascon who contributed the original logo and icon may
comment about refreshing / updating the application's logo and icon.

Of the icons my favorite are those with the wide rectangle (as opposed
to the square), without border (though with the shade of white passing
in front of the h, like in the square ones).

have you tried putting the man with the open arms instead of the h?

the logo itself, I'm not sure - it is basically the same logo, but with
a glossy / aquarel effect rather than Luca's original matte / crayon effect.

What do other people think, particularly Luca? and the developers?
