Just curious if these posts are automated. They all have started to look
quite the same.

2006-09-07 Thread Thomas Kern
If Lynn Wheeler has written a program to read the IBMMAIN and IBMVM listserv
postings and respond with references to relevant past postings and
occasional new material that has not been circulated through the MVS and VM
sysprog communities, I WANT THAT PROGRAM. It must be good code.

Frankly, I'm sick of them.

Everytime somebody says something, they have a post or 70 regarding everything.

Just once, I would like to see some real content from them.

Not! More on VM from 1969 and how it did everything, and controlled everything.
AND, how they had modified the code to so it.

When in doubt.

I just checked a few postings by filtering on the sender address (you
have it slightly wrong) and I think I understand your concern. Kind of
PITA. Well, you can always use a killfile or message filter or what your
mail client provides, that's the fastest and easiest relief for the pain
and itch. I don't have the time to read all postings anyway, I do manual
filtering by subject and sender.

Correction: Anne & Lynn Wheeler
In fact these looks so.

However Anne or Lynn could answer us & confirm or deny.
Lynn ?
Can you answer us, please ?

Personally I don't read these posts. Each of them is looong, unclear for
me and contains many links to "garlic" web page which makes reading even
harder. I tried to understand the point in some posts of Lynn. I really
tried. I gave up.
What is good Lynn never answers "no, you're wrong, I know it" or fight
for the only proper meaning of USS acronym

Gee, in one of his replies to Phil Payne, he mentions "one of your articles"
and links to the Isham Research web site. Seems human enough to me. If it's a
bot, it's good enough to pass a Turing test.

He also is not insulting or demeaning to other posters. I'll take that.

Whatever their site is I'm deeply envious of how
comprehensive its contents are. The design must be
such that:

1. It's readily update-able.
2. It's readily search-able, in that a reference to the
1978 version of the ABC Frammis get quoted
   rather instantly.
3. Seeming non-redundant, though I must admit I only
read a few additional peripheral links.

Anyway, it impresses me...

Lynn Wheeler was one of the very early VM developers. He's been around IBM for
30+ years, starting as a student.

That doesn't answer the questions about the site, but that's WHO he is, anyway
-- he's got the chops, he knows what he's on about.

But, his posts are repetitive, difficult to read, and content-free.
I find, as I have said before, no value add.
History is one thing.
Droning posts are another.
