Re: INFOPRINT SERVER EXPERIENCE

2022-07-21 Thread Timothy Sipples
IBM's AFP to PDF generator on z/OS is called IBM Print Transform from AFP to
PDF for Infoprint Server for z/OS, IBM Program No. 5655-TF1. I'm biased I
suppose, but it's a very good product. There are options available to generate
accessible PDFs (PDFs that are suitable for users of screen reader software)
and signed secure PDFs, to prevent PDF tampering. You can also encrypt PDFs,
create annotations, bookmarks, links, and more.

The documentation for this product is available in (what else?) PDF here
(direct link, subject to change):

https://www-40.ibm.com/servers/resourcelink/svc00100.nsf/pages/zOSV2R4G3252634/$file/aokfa00_v2r3.pdf

It's quite common to pair PDFs with IBM Content Manager for organizing,
archiving, searching, retrieving, etc. That's available for z/OS too if you
need it.

While you can have the output delivered in PDF format, we don't support the
data transforms, we call a routine that formats the output as a PDF, I thin the
op is looking for something that performs the actual transforms like from IBM,
LRS or Makinney systems

I think Colin has pointed you in the right direction.

I wonder if (alternatively) you could configure IBM Z Workload Scheduler for
HTTP (unencrypted) traffic but then use z/OS AT-TLS to provide the TLS 1.2+

Just generate the RACF commands and convert them. Or generate them and
send them to Broadcom and have them convert them. Sometimes the cookbooks
lag or they don't have the latest stuff. So unless they've updated the
cookbooks lately, I wouldn't use the stuff in the cookbooks for your ZOSMF
setup.

Any problems with TSS can be tracked through using the sectrace and the
OMVS trace.

Yes. Kind of like the Overflow group when the allocation can't be
satisfied in the original group. But once in the overflow, subsequent
extents must be in that group, until the dataset can be migrated.

Re: SMS volume status of QUINEW?

2022-07-21 Thread Carmen Vitullo
it's my understanding that SMS passes a list of eligible devices to be
used in allocation based on the request, I believe, and I could be
wrong, those eligible devices pass some scrutiny based on the allocation
request. the QUINEW devices are placed last in the list of eligible
devices and if there's enough space to satisfy a large secondary
allocation the allocation would be satisfied on that volume.

if my understanding is wrong please correct me.

within some storage groups.

It appears that the status of QUINEW would allow SMS to allocate space on those
volumes if needed. I had never heard of that status before until recently when
I was cleaning up the different storage pools.

Imagine my surprise when I set the volume status of those that had QUINEW to
DISNEW and a couple of batch jobs failed. I had to throw a few mod-27’s into
the pool to bring up the free space.

Apparently, QUINEW works differently then DISNEW and we were wondering about

Does anyone know why it was created and to what purpose would it serve, or does
it pre-date DISNEW?

Thanks up front.

User-written condition handlers with COBOL

2022-07-21 Thread Tom Ross
Hi all!
Does anyone know of shops that use user-written condition handlers in their
COBOL applications? I mean the type that are registered with CEEHDLR or with
the
run-time option USRHDLR. If so, we at IBM would like to know what the condition
handlers do...Would customers rely on condition handlers to handle the condition
and resume the application? Or would customers register condition handler for
information collection instead?

Over the years I have explained to hundreds of COBOL programmers how to use
them at SHARE and Guide, but I really don't know if anyone actually does!

Thanks and Cheers,

Jack,

You need to use DATE3P which is a packed decimal format in +ddd format.

So you can use

  INCLUDE COND=(009,2,CH,EQ,C'D ',AND,
117,4,PD,LE,DATE3P-90)

This will filter out the records that have last reference date <= current date
- 90 days

Further if you have any questions please let me know

Thanks,

My post Using z/OS LDAP with TLS 1.3
may give
you a few clues. It talks about removing cipher specs you do not want to
use.

Search for .GSK_V2_CIPHER_SPECS in the GSK doc (SC14-7495-50) below.

There is a list of cipher specs in Appendix C. Cipher suite definitions in

There are 2 missing icons that I need - Software Management & Software Updates.
I been through several manuals and have performed additional setup and SAF
rules that are suppose to provide this function.

Did you check the "App Center" folder in the lower left corner of the z/OSMF
desktop? I don't know why, but some application icons do not get displayed on the
desktop by default, but you can drag them from the App Center folder to the desktop. If
they are not in the App Center folder then I suggest open a support case.

Re: Using DFSORT to display binary and Packed Decimal values

2022-07-21 Thread Jack Zukt
Hi,
By now, after more trial and errors and reading several bits of the DFSORT
manual, I have been able to get the report that I wanted. But now I need
something else. I want to produce a report with only the data sets that
have not been referenced for over a year. The DCOLLECT record "D" "DATE
LAST REFERENCED (ddd F)" is on position 113 (117 for a SORT field),
with a length of four bytes. I think that this makes it format PD for SORT,
and not CH as the manual states.
If I use 117,4,CH,LE,X'2021202F', it works as expected. But I do not want
to have a hard coded date. I have used on a different report
"118,10,BI,LE,DATE1(-)-90)" for dates with the "-mm-dd" format.
My interpretation of the DFSORT manual for a date on the "ddd" format,
is that I should use the DATE3 symbol, but it is not working. I will keep
reading the manual and I will keep trying on but, in the meantime, does
anyone has a suggestion?
Thank you,
Regards,
Jack

SMS volume status of QUINEW?

2022-07-21 Thread Claude Richbourg
Good morning all,

We are curious about the reasoning behind the QUINEW status for SMS volume(s).
We use DISNEW for SMS volumes that we want to eventually phase out and we
discovered there were older volumes that had an existing assignment of QUINEW
within some storage groups.

Apparently, QUINEW works differently then DISNEW and we were wondering about
the history and reasoning behind that status?
Does anyone know why it was created and to what purpose would it serve, or does
it pre-date DISNEW?

Thanks up front.
Claude

ALLOC means GETMAIN/STORAGE OBTAIN

I mean I understand that z/os always gets in increments of 1K or 4096 so free
means it was part of the storage z/os obtained but the user didn’t request so
the storage that the user requested really starts at 7FF9CE28 right ?

VSMLIST SP=PVT,SPACE=FREE question

2022-07-21 Thread Harris Morgenstern
>From MVS Authorized Assembler Services Reference:

,SPACE=ALLOC
,SPACE=FREE
,SPACE=UNALLOC
Specifies whether allocated, allocated and free, or unallocated storage is to
be reported.
ALLOC indicates that the virtual addresses and lengths of blocks of storage
allocated to the specific
area are to be listed.
FREE indicates that in addition to the information supplied by ALLOC, the
virtual addresses and
lengths of free space within the allocated blocks are to be listed.
UNALLOC indicates that the virtual addresses and lengths of unallocated blocks
of storage are to be
listed. Both TCB and REAL are ignored when UNALLOC is specified.
Note: An allocated block of storage is a block that is a multiple of 4K in size
and contains some
storage that has been allocated via a GETMAIN or STORAGE macro. The free
storage is the storage
within an allocated block that has not been allocated via a GETMAIN or STORAGE
macro. An
unallocated block of storage is a block that is a multiple of 4K in size and
contains no allocated
storage.

The NOTE at the bottom is relevant. Free storage exists within an allocated
block. So in your case:

0008E508 008FD250 0001 7FF9C000 00051000 0001 7FF9C000 0E28

The allocated block starts at 7FF9C000x and is of length 51000x. There is
free space within this allocated block starting at

7FF9C000x of length E28x.
