TCPIP Gateway entry question

2009-07-08 Thread jose raul baron
Hi list, we are having lots of trouble on defining a new type B IP address
with subnetting under z/VM 4.4

Net Address: 172.24.131.160
Netmask: 255.255.255.224 = 27 mask bits
Wildcard:0.0.0.31

Minimum IP address: 172.24.131.161
Maximum IP address: 172.24.131.190
Broadcast address: 172.24.131.191
Total IP number in network: 30

Our target machine is 172.124.131.188

But when applying Obeyfile We keep on constantly receiving error messages
saying

DTCPAR123I Line 104: Net address implies host routing, but HOST not
specified

That is, we must write the keyword HOST to avoid errors, but that's not what
we want.

Any help will be most welcome !

Thanks in advance,

Hello Jose,

z/VM 4.3 did not support the attachment parameter. I am not sure when
it was introduced.

Tom, Bill, Marci, Mike, David, Jim, Ed,

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.

Now, to your questions:

- Yes, I made a mistake, I meant e-mail but for some reason I wrote FTP
instead. I'm Sorry for my lapsus.
- PJBR means Produccion - Jose Baron Rodriguez. It's just an
eyecatcher I
tag my posts with so I can locate any reply I get more easily among
hundreds
of e-mails. Just a trick ;-)

Now, this is what I have tested and my results with your great
suggestions:

- I have used PROFILE EXEC for a plain text file and a z/VM .PDF manual
(no
better item :-) for a binary file to play with.

- First I tried..: sendfile ZVM43 PDF A to jbaron at calculo-sa.es (mime
BINARY -- This works fine.
- However I just couldn't get a satisfactory sendfile ascii-attachment
solution for PROFILE EXEC. It sent me either
the file as the e-mail text itself or as two .dat files a bit
unconfortable to work with.

I tried...: (1) sendfile profile exec a to jbaron at calculo-sa.es
(SMTP
autosubj uftsync
and...: (2) sendfile profile exec a to jbaron at calculo-sa.es
(MIME
autosubj uftsync
variations but since there is no remote UTF server it switches to
SMTP,
which makes (1) and (2) identical.

- So I ended up installing MAILIT VMARC and it works fine with minimum
variations:

   mailit to(jbaron at calculo-sa.es) subject(this is it) attach(profile
exec)
   mailit to(jbaron at calculo-sa.es) subject(this is it) attach(zvm43
pdf)

This solution has been the best one I've found to solve the two cases.
Again, THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP !

z/VM 5.4 VSAM question - PJBR

2009-05-20 Thread jose raul baron
Hi, list.

We are currently considering to migrate from z/VM 4.4 to z/VM 5.4 but we
have an issue:
We still have critical applications that use VSE/VSAM 6.1 and the questions
are:

- Does VSAM still exist in z/VM 5.4 ?
- Is it perhaps included in the z/VM 5.4 code (e.g. as TCPIP) ?
- If not, is there any workaround way to keep on using our VSAM applications
(e.g. installing the VSAM 6.1 tape we received with z/VM 4.4) ?

Thanks in advance,

Yes, thanks to the hard work of Jim Vincent, there is a 64 bit version
of TRACK available here:

It supports z/VM 5.4, running on 64 bit processors.

No problem.

In PJBR2.CGI, it did exactly what you told it to do. When entry is from a
Post, the primary input stream contains one entry for each field that was
altered. The format is fieldname=text. I use a pipe like this to set the
fieldname variables:

'callpipe (name RdIP end \)',
'\ *.input:',
   '| locate w1',
   '| xlate',
   '| change ?=?/? 1',
   '| insert ?/? before',
   '| strip',
   '| varload'

Your Parse Upper Var record statement is a nop. I presume your intent was
to make the record upper case. If so, use the TRANSLATE function in REXX or
the XLATE stage in a Pipe.

I haven't the time to examine the main program this morning.

Richard Schuh

Rob, just a quick note. The size for minidisk must be EXACTLY of 5 cyl.
Not less AND NOT MORE :-)
if more than 5 cyl. are defined you get RC=1.

This goes too with the other disks that must be EXACTLY of:

- Minidisk 22CC: 5 cyl.
- Minidisk 2CF1: 120 cyl.

Are you sure the disk is R/W and that it is the right size? I
tried to do it from the quick ref guide and found that it was
missing some of the steps that you need (and are only in the real
book).
IIRC this looks like the original disk was 5 cyl and yours is 10, and
that the RC=1 is an indication that it went fine.. Access the mini
disk and see what's there and whether it looks reliable. If it was
initially empty and now has a lot of files, then you're probably good
to go.

Hi Rob. Yes, I have looked into my disk and it varied from being empty
to be filled with lots of files (67 files to be more accurate). I suppose
this is no big problem, but just wanted to make sure. (The old costume to

If it was
initially empty and now has a lot of files, then you're probably good
to go.

OK, I will CPFMTXA 0-END (entire volume) but ALLOC only as PAGE 1-3338, thus

The paging subsystem will page to cyl 0, but it knows to avoid the label and
tracks that have other CP administrative data on them. In the interest of
avoiding problems, however, don't ALLOCATE cyl 0 as anything other than
PERM. It's just not worth the risk.

Cylinder zero is PERM and belongs to CP. I tell you three times.

Does not have to. CP knows enough to stay out of the first track(s) but I
think most folks do keep the first cylinder out.
In his case, those might be the only tracks where CP could page on that disk

z/VM 5.2 Absurd System shutdown - PJBR

2008-01-08 Thread Jose Raul Baron
Well, I have been reading system directory and the fact of starting the page
area in cyl. 0 doesn't seem to be the cause of this problem. Originally the
system-defined system page area is defined as:

USER $PAGE$ NOLOG
 MDISK A03 3390 000 END 520PAG R
MDISK A04 3390 000 END 520PG1 R-- This is the one we added later,
the one causing the problem.
*

So, as you can see, the system-default defined one also starts in cyl. 0.

Could it be here the difference ?
HCPINI8392I INSTIIS EXEC ENDED SUCCESSFULLY
Ready;

The difference must reside in that 1-3338 must have been performed at alloc
time (at z/VM installation time) instead of 0-3338 which is what we have
(erroneously ?) done.

So, we're going to define a new page device equally directory-defined as
520PAG (that is, 0-END), then we're going to CPFMTXA FORMAT it and then
ALLOCATE 1-3338 this time.

If this problem still persists (we have formatted the disk and allocated it
exactly like 520PAG, so same definition should imply same functioning) we
better search for a new job, like Bill Gates.

Do you agree with this plan ?

Yes, it runs above 16M. The problem arises when displaying a COBOL map,
always at the same point. We are considering splitting the application into

crashes.

This is the VAGEN COBOL source code for line 0855:

Any ideas are most welcome.
Thanks in advance,

Re: Question on LINUX

Certainly. I have done it from www.opensuse.org
I think they have currently version 10.
That's at least the one I managed to download.

Hello Paul, Rich, and everyone else,

  Thank you for the info.

Is there a site that I could download a z/VM SuSE system? Or even a
SuSE system for a INTEL system?
The basic idea is to get people here comfortable with LINUX (get them
involved).

I have loaded software, proved it works (single user, trial, etc).
Then have gone back to get
the ‘REAL’ product and re-installed. Usually with much improved results.

There are no costs that *have* to be incurred. However, all the zLinux
companies will try their best to get you to buy their Patch/Fix support. For
SuSE that has been less than $5K/year, but I understand the price has not
'gone up' a bit. Don't have the details at this time, but I expect they will
make something fairly reasonable available.

Once you have a copy up and running it is pretty rare to need to change it,
especially in a production environment. And the system is solid as a rock,
especially under z/VM.

One note - don't expect good support on zLinux from anyone- including IBM.
All of the support people are basically Intel people, and don't have much of
a clue of the difference between DASD and a harddisk - and no idea about how
things like FICON work. SuSE has some really good people in place who can
help out, but getting to them can be a challenge.

On the flip side - it is cheap and works really well.

DMSITP143T Operation exception SVC 18

2006-11-23 Thread Jose Raul Baron
Hi everyone.
We have experienced the problem

DMSITP143T Operation exception occurred at 80E2778A in system routine SVC
 18;
re-IPL CMS

with about 50 VAGEN users attacking a DB2/VM 7.3 database.
Suddenly, at a certain time, all the users running the application get in
to
CP READ state, all at a time with no apparent reason. No dump, No Operato
r
Console entry, simply nothing I could have a look at.

We use z/VM 4.4. Has anyone experienced this problem before or does anybo
dy
have an idea of where the problem could possibly rely on ?

Any idea will be very welcome.

BRGDS,

Raul Baron

Hi, DJ, The machines issuing the DMSITP143T are the end VAGEN end user
Virtual Machines, NOT the database.

Thanks for your quick response.

Hi, Rual.

In CMS, SVC 18 is OS simulation of the PDS BLDL/FIND macro. What virtual
machine is issuing the DMSITP143T message; is it one of the end user
(VAGEN) virtual machines or is it the DB2/VM server? If it is the DB2/VM
server, I would open a PMR with the DB2 group at IBM.

Good luck.
